Author's note- Wow... it's been a while, huh? Also, I can't guarantee that I'll be posting all the time, I'm going to try though. My life has changed quite a bit. I'm now married with an adorable son. He's just turning 7 months. The good news? I'm home a lot. The bad? I'm also busy doing stuff with him. I hope that this is the start of me posting a lot more. Fingers crossed. Now I guess I'll see if any of you are still out there.

Did I Scare You When I Dared You?

I'm starting to want you
More than I want to
This ain't my finest hour

There's something about you
That I could get in to
Something that's deep inside you

-Matchbox Twenty

The next morning was chaos. The new mutants had a field trip with Logan and Mr. McCoy so were rushing to get ready. The older students were trying to eat breakfast. Pietro dropped down next to Kitty and stole one of her bagels. "Crazy in here this morning," he said.

"I don't know if you noticed, but it's always varying degrees of crazy in this place," Kitty quipped. She took a bite of her bagel and stared outside for a few moments while the new mutants finished breakfast and started grabbing their things. "Thanks for last night, it was nice of you."

"Yeah, well, I can't say I'll make a habit of being nice, but you're welcome," Pietro said. He looked uncomfortable which told Kitty a few things. Namely, that he wasn't quite as badass as he wanted to seem. "If you'd like, I'll give you a ride to school."

"Um, okay," Kitty said.

"I'll meet you out front." He surprised her by leaning down and giving her a quick kiss on the cheek before running off.

"Oh, my!" Kitty looked behind her to see Rogue walking in. The goth looked surprisingly awake for the morning. "What happened last night?"

"Nothing," Kitty shrugged. "We just decided to try to get along. He's not as much of a jerk as he seems."

"Well, that doesn't take a whole lot," Rogue laughed.

Kitty was surprised that she almost opened her mouth to defend Pietro. Instead, she laughed and shrugged. "Yeah, I guess. How'd it go last night?"

"We had fun, can Ah trust you?"

"I would think that by now you'd, like, know the answer to that," Kitty said looking a little offended.

"Ah still remember who let it slip that Kurt and Ah snuck out to go to that concert."

"That was an accident," Kitty sniffed indignantly. The new mutants were finally leaving. The kitchen fell into blessed silence as the girls were left alone.

"Ah think Ah may like him."

"Remy?"

"Yeah. He's not like other guys. For one thing he knows about mah… mutation. He doesn't care. He tried to kiss meh last night."

"What?"

"Yeah, Ah stopped him, but… Ah wish Ah didn't have to."

"Oh, Rogue," Kitty sighed.

Rogue looked down and Kitty was alarmed to see tears in her eyes. "Ah just wish Ah could be a normal girl sometimes."

"Who needs normal?" both girls turned seeing Remy coming into the kitchen behind them. Rogue's mouth dropped open.

"I'd, like, better go meet Pietro," Kitty said grabbing her bag from under the table. "I'll see you at school." She shot Rogue an apologetic look but knew her friend could use some time with Remy.

"Remy…" Rogue said.

"Remy likes y'," the Cajun said bluntly. "Y' be one tough fille. If y' want Remy to back off Ah will, but Ah think y'r scared."

"Of course Ah am!" Rogue exclaimed. "Ah could hurt ya!"

Remy shook his head. "Non. Y'r scared of bein' hurt, not doin' the hurtin."

"Ah-"

"If y' want we could see how this goes."

"This?"

"Oui. So, want to go t' dinner tonight?" Slowly, Rogue smiled.

Arriving to school in Pietro's car was an experience. For one thing, he seemed to not see the speed limit signs. For another, once they got there he made a point of opening her door for her and walked into the school with her on his arm. Kitty had never been popular so the way people started talking to her now that she was with him was strange. They spent the day together, as much as their classes would allow.

"You were right," Kitty confessed as they drove home.

"Of course I was," Pietro said. "About what?"

"I do need to start having fun again. If I keep moping I'm totally letting him win."

"Exactly," he flashed her a cocky grin.

"The road, Pietro."

"I've heard tales of your driving, Pryde."

"Yeah, well, I'm, like, not behind the wheel."

"So, there's a party at Clarice's place, you're going with me, right?"

Kitty hesitated remembering how many times she had wanted to get into a senior's party. "Um, I guess…"

"Cool, her parents won't be home, so it'll be great. Last time the cops were called."

"And… that's a good thing?"

"Well, not for people who can't get out really fast maybe." Kitty laughed shaking her head. "You know, the guys at school are jealous."

Kitty blushed. "Yeah, right. Guys don't like girls like me."

"Girls like you?"

"I have the body of a twelve year old."

Pietro laughed hard. "Pryde would I want to be with you if that were true. You're slim, yeah, but you're not built like a twelve year old. Plus, you have big, beautiful eyes, and a smile to die for." He parked his car in front of The Institute. "And Friday night, I get to show you off to everyone." He gave her a light but lingering kiss that warmed her all over. "Before we're done I'm going to convince you that you're as gorgeous as I think you are."
