Love is a funny word
Chapter one
Disclaimer: I don't own any of the Kingdom Hearts characters. Blah blah blah.
(A/N: This story is about Yuffie trying to get Squall out of her head. She's in love with him, but he doesn't seem to have mutual feelings. But when Squall starts getting on her nerves and driving her crazy, to what extremes will Yuffie go to get away from him, and her love for him?)
I miss the sunlight, the light beaming down upon you with radiance. I miss the vast fields of lush green grass. The hills, where you could roll down, without a care in the world. I miss, the way I could roam around the castle, not having to keep looking over my shoulder. I miss laying on my back a top a hill and pointing out shapes in the white fluffy clouds. I miss running around with friends, playing tag or hide and go seek. But, most importantly, I miss them, and I miss being a kid. Loosing my parents, one to the heartless hit me hard; tearing through my heart like a million shape swords. They died when I was only seven years old. The day we all left Hallow Bastian, never to return someday. Maybe, someday. . . I am now sixteen years old, and I live with Cid, Aerith, Cloud, and him; in Traverse Town, where there is no sun to beat down, no fields of grass, no hills to roll down or lay on, no castle to roam, no time to be a kid, and no parents, just friends and darkness. As Cid puts it, I grew up faster than I needed to. You're probably wondering who that him is, huh? That would be the man that I am helplessly, completely, desperately head-over-heels in love with, and he will never know. That would be none other then Squall Leonhart. Even though he wants to be called Leon, I still call him Squall. I have loved him since I was seven, when he saved me from the heartless. I don't get my hopes up any more, because I know he will never return the feeling.
Sighing, I leaned back against the wall of the waterway. I've been sitting here for sometime now, just thinking.
Picking up a pebble, I skipped it across the water, making ripples on the surface. I picked up another rock, I raised my arm in the air, ready to throw it, when I heard something move, and froze. My breath came shallow as my heart pounded. Something moved from behind that pile of crates, about five feet to the left of me. Very slowly I moved my arm down, and let the rock drop to the ground. Still moving slowly, I took four shurikens in each hand, poised for battle. I waited, unmoving. My eyes searched the darkness for the heartless I knew was behind there. Like a flash the heartless jumped out from behind the crates, rapidly moving towards me. Using my ninja skills, I jumped up, throwing my stars at my moving target. They sliced through its arms, and upper body, making it squeal loudly. I caught seven shurikens, I looked down, and I had eight. In that one second, the one second I was not paying attention, it struck, and hard. I looked up right as it lunged at me, catching me from one shoulder to the other. I was thrown backwards, into more crates; I could feel the wood digging into my skin as I crushed them. My left arm swung upward, holding a piece of wood, hitting the heartless in the head, forcing him backwards. I stumbled to my feet, and closed my hand around the handle of the sword Cloud had given me for my birthday. I brought it in front of my face slowly, glaring dangerously at him, ignoring the searing pain that roared through my body. I ignored the splatter of raindrops starting to fall; as we stared each other down. Suddenly, he lunged again, but I was ready, I blocked his blow, my sword vibrating with the contact. He came again, and again, until I had no choice, but to flee. Still holding my sword, I jumped over the heartless, landing behind him on one knee, I looked behind me as it charged again. Grunting and panting, I stood up and ran. Jumping into the water, I swam as fast as I could, when suddenly I felt a searing pain in my side, and looked down; the heartless had thrown the shuriken I had lost at me through the water. Trying my best to ignore it, I reached the other side, now more soaked as I ran through the pouring rain. Time seemed to slow down as my feet pounded on the ground; the rain making it harder and harder to see. As I reached the bared gate meant to keep people out, I broke through it, slamming it hard behind me, in the heartlesses face. Not wanting to see if it could get out, I sprinted off in a slight limp. I reached an alley safe in the second district, and looked down panting to the dagger embedded in my bleeding side. I reached down, and took it in both hands, and gingerly pulled it out. I let it drop to the ground as I gasped with pain. I clutched my side as my rain soaked body slowly slide to the ground. Shivering, I leaned my head back against the wet bricks, my soaking wet bangs hanging in my face. With my eyes closed, I tried to take deep breaths to calm myself down, when I heard a movement. I leaned forward as a figure appeared, holding a giant sword. As the figure stood for a second, nonmoving. I got a little scared. Then, it spoke, scaring the shit out of me. "Who is that?" He asked loudly. My eyes widened, and I tried to stand up. "Cloud? Is that you?" I asked quickly. "Yuffie?" He let his sword clatter to the ground as he ran to me, helping me up. "You're hurt!" He exclaimed after looking me up and down. "No shit Sherlock." I grunted, "Heartless aren't exactly the friendliest creatures in the world." Keeping his arm around my shoulders, for me to hang onto, he led me out of the alley, picking up his sword on the way out.
"So, what were you doing out here in the middle of the night?" I asked him, looking up at him. He sighed. "I was about to ask you the same thing." He said eyeing me suspiciously. "Actually, I was out looking for you, with Leon." I looked up at him quickly. "Why would you be out here looking for me? I can take care of myself!" I stated defiantly. He eyed my seriously, "Apparently not." I sighed, not in the mood to argue.
Leon trudged through the rain towards the hotel. He had searched all through the first and third districts, including the waterway and roof tops. Without any sign of Yuffie, although, it looks as if there was a struggle in the waterway, but that could've been two heartless fighting each other. Or someone. . . Now worried that it could've been Yuffie and she. . . Pushing that thought from his mind, he thrust the doors of the hotel open, and walked inside. Moving his sopping wet bangs out of his face, he sighed deeply as he entered Aerith and Cloud's room. Aerith looked up as he entered. She stopped pacing, and he noticed her face was pale and she was wringing her hands together. Aerith's head drooped when he came in alone. Almost in some kind of a trance, they sat down at the same time on the edge of the bed. They sat in silence, listening to the pounding rain against the window. "Stop it that hurts!" "I can't help it! Do you want me to drop you?" Their eyes opened, listening to the voices coming down the hall. It sounded like one person walking, and another person limping, horribly. "Hey, ow! Sto- hold still!" "Well, I'm sorry; I was kind of stabbed in the side!" The female voice whined. The footsteps stopped in front of the door. Silence. "Open the door already!" "I can't! I'm trying to hold you up and hold my sword, my hands are full!" "Fine I'll do it!" The door knob turned, and Leon stood up quickly. The door opened sharply. Cloud dropped his sword as Yuffie fell forward, so he could wrap both arms around her waist, catching her. As Yuffie wriggled in pain, Cloud looked up to Leon. Yuffie stopped squirming and looked up too. "Ummm, hi?"
"Wrap it around her stomach." "I know! What do you think I'm doing?" "Then do it faster!" "I'm not a friggin nurse!" "When Cloud gets back with bandages, you can leave, okay?" I'm lying on the bed, eyes closed, pretending to sleep, while listening to Aerith and Cid argue. They were working on my side, the last thing. My back wounds were reduced to painful bruises. Curgra did little for my side, except closing it up. It still hurts like a bitch. And it doesn't help that every time I try to doze off, Cid appears, arguing about pointless things, keeping me awake. When the voices stopped, finally, I heard footsteps leaving Squall's and my room, I opened my eyes slightly. It was better when they think I'm sleeping, because then they don't talk to me about it, and I can't talk to them. Seeing no one in my line of vision, I opened my eyes fully, blinking a few times. Before I got a chance to look around the whole room, a voice surprised me from across the room. "Sleep well?" I smirked; he knew as well as I do that I wasn't sleeping. "Like I was able to sleep with Cid whining like a second grader. Bitch and moan, bitch and moan." Squall emerged from the dark corner. His eyes searched my face for something with his dark, handsome eyes. What is he looking for? A zit? I thought to myself. "How are you feeling?" My eyes widened, and I motioned for him to come over to the bed closer. He walked over slowly, and stood next to me. In one fluid motion, I reached up and grabbed his collar, pulling him down to me, and then I pressed the back of my hand to his head. "I think you have a fever." I stated with an evil grin on my face. He yanked his collar free, and then glared at me as he stood up. "Oh, come on Squal-" "It's Leon." He said, interrupting me. Rolling my eyes, I started over. "Leeeeeooon, why all of the sudden you, well, you." I paused, watching his face expression, which was expressionless, as always. "Yes?" He asked quietly, his eyes burning into mine. I gulped as I stared into his eyes, deep dark brown eyes, I always found myself drowning into them. This time the surface disappeared from sight, but there didn't seem to be a bottom; just endless falling. I blinked and suddenly I left the bedroom and I felt like I was falling, everything seemed to be flying around me fast, my hair flying upwards. Aerith suddenly appeared beside me, except for her long beautiful hair moving slightly, it was like the atmosphere surrounding us didn't affect her at all. Her hands were clasped together in front of her in a stern manner. "Don't say it to him." "But, bu-" "No buts, you don't need to go picking fights with him like you always do. Just let it go and open you eyes." "But my eyes are open." I demanded. She leaned over to me. "Open you mind." She whispered. "See him." My eyebrows furrowed confusedly. "What?" I looked at her incredulously, "See him? I can see him! I have two eyes, don't I?" She shook her head, "No see him, all of him." She straightened her back again. "Open your eyes." "Bu-"I protested. "Now!" She ordered. Gulping, I closed my eyes, and then reopened them. I was back to my bed, beside Squall. He was looking at me like he did a second ago, before I left! "Yes?" I slumped back against the pillow. Like you care. "Nothing." I mumbled.
(A/N: I know I know, short, and sucky as hell. I already have the second chappy written, I just have to finish my gay ass homework, and get it typed, so expect it soon. Within the next week or so. Okay? Alrighy then, peace out!)
