Disclaimer: I own none of the Beyblade characters.
Okay so I really shouldn't post timeframes to when I update. Wow it's been a long, long time since I last updated this fic, and I am really sorry to make people wait this long.
So hopefully I can get my ass in gear and get these fingers to start typing and start getting some stories finished.
One thing, I apologize about all the random details that are being added like time-wise and personal details. I've planned this out a bit more so its working now.
Chapter Nine – Confrontation
The first thing Kai noticed upon entering the restaurant was the unforgettable figure of Rei who he had last seen not too long ago. He was confused as to why the younger man was here.
'I never mentioned I was coming here.' He thought to himself. Not waiting for his parents to catch up he walked up behind the black-haired teen and watched as Rei made a scene at the unexpected comment. He quickly regretted it as he heard his mother make a comment that was a little less then polite. Kai watched Rei's anxious and confused face for a moment before a taller and older man turned around. Kai was surprised by the familiar eyes that stared curiously at him.
"Hi, are you a friend of Rei's?" The man asked lightly, his voice holding no hostility towards Kai.
"Yeah I am. I'm Kai Hiwatari, and these are my parents Karine and Christoph." Kai replied politely.
"Really Kai, there's no need to introduce us. Our table must be ready anyways." Kai's mother said walking past them to talk to the maitre d', who immediately flinched at her presence. He quickly scanned the list and then ran off to see if the table was indeed ready.
"You're mother is right Kai. Let's keep going. We came all this way to see and talk with you." A man slightly shorter then Kai with black hair and brown eyes dressed in an expensive suit said as he walked by as well.
"Um—I'm sorry Mr. Kon. My parents are a little stressed from the trip over here." Kai said bowing his head slightly. Mr. Kon smirked shaking his head.
"Don't worry. Only thing I noticed was the temperature dropping a few degrees." He said lightly meaning no offence to Kai personally. Kai smiled at the response knowing the effect his parents had on some people.
"Well now that that's passed, I'm Sheng Kon, Rei's father. I actually remember your name. Our neighbour mentioned that you helped Rei back when he had his accident. I meant to tell him that we said thanks, but I must have forgotten." The man said sticking a hand out as Kai accepted it and shook it.
"Oh well you're welcome. It actually wasn't that big of a deal."
"With Rei, everything is a big deal." Sheng said humorously. Rei rolled his eyes at his father's jab.
"Well I'd ask you to sit with us since my wife didn't make it into town tonight and there's an extra seat, but I'm sure your parents want to talk to you seeing as how they're probably glaring at the back of my head." He said quietly. Kai smirked and gave a small nod.
"Yes. It'll probably save many lives if I go and sit with them. Anyways I'll talk to you later Rei. Nice meeting you Mr. Kon." Kai said.
"Yeah. Bye Kai." Rei said watching as the older man walked by brushing their shoulders and fingers together as he passed by. Sheng looked down at his son and smiled.
"Well at least he seemed nice." He said turning around to face the maitre d'.
"Yeah. I'm sorry about that dad." Rei said looking up through his bangs.
Mr. Kon smirked and gave Rei a slight nudge with his elbow.
"You think that was bad? I have to deal with people ten times more bitchy then that. I've had many years to develop this ability to ignore certain people." Mr. Kon said as they were led to their table on the opposite side of the restaurant from Kai and his parents. Sitting down they were handed menus and left alone.
"Why did they get seated first? We were here first." Rei grumbled as he opened the menu.
"You're going to argue over this? I know you just graduated but I know they taught you about bribes somewhere along the line of life." His father said not bothering to look up from the menu.
"Life lessons are your department."
"Well you obviously weren't paying attention and if you noticed we actually got a better table. Would you really want to sit that close to the back of the restaurant when you can have this nice window looking seat?" His father replied. "Decide what you want yet?"
"Haven't even looked yet." Rei replied finally opening the menu. A few minutes of brooding they finally had their orders taken and were left in peace again.
"So how have things been? How are Lee and his family doing?"
"Good I hope. I haven't really seen him since the beginning of the summer. His parents were taking him on a trip east. He sent me a postcard a few weeks ago, but other then that I don't know."
"Well what is he going to do when he gets back? Is he going to school out of the area?"
"Yeah. Not far though." Rei said picking at the bread on his plate.
"Well that's good. Besides you'll have fun at the college. I'm sure you'll find yourself busy." Rei's father told him. Rei smiled and nodded his eyes trailing over to where Kai sat with his parents who were graciously sipping their glasses of wine.
"Your mom was looking forward to seeing you this week. She of course misses you. Wants to know every little detail that's going on. Wants to know what you've been doing, how your friends are, if there are any girlfriends yet?" Rei's eyes snapped back to his father when he mentioned the last part.
"Oh...well...no, not yet." Rei stammered a bit hoping that his cheeks weren't pink.
"Really? Not even Mariah?" His father asked raising an eyebrow.
"Dad." Rei replied his shoulders sagging at the repetitiveness of this topic.
"I'm kidding. I don't think I'd wish you anymore torment." Sheng said. There was silence for a few minutes. "So how'd you meet Kai? I noticed he's a bit older."
"Oh, well I met him at the park a few months ago. He was drawing and I wanted to see what."
"Should have guessed something along those lines. Does he live around here?"
"He goes to the university."
"Oh...so I'm guessing he's a med-student then. Well good for him." He said leaning back as their appetizers arrived. Rei quickly dished out some on to his plate as he looked over at Kai's table again.
Kai's parents seemed to be doing a lot of the talking as far as Rei had seen. Kai only seemed to nodded and reply every so often. In the midst of their talking Kai's eyes flashed up and over at Rei who was still continuing to stare at him. Kai smiled softly. Rei felt his cheeks burn a little in embarrassment. Kai tilted his head slightly to the side causing Rei to sit up a little confused. Kai tilted his head in the direction and Rei glanced over noticing what he meant. Looking over to his father Rei saw that his dad was looking out the window. Quickly raising his hands he signalled 'ten minutes' before grabbing his fork continued to eat.
Across the room Kai smirked at Rei trying to be inconspicuous. Sighing slightly he turned his attention back to his parents who continued to try to get every detail out of Kai's life. Glancing back over he watched as Rei and his father laughed at something before glancing back to his own parents. Life really wanted to make things difficult for him.
So there's the chapter for now. I know it was just another two-world, not much going on chapter, but hopefully the next chapter will be a bit better.
I'm trying to get these fics updated so hopefully I can get a regular schedule going soon.
Thanks to everyone who's stuck by reading this.
