Disclaimer: I don't own PotC or never will... Damn.
A/N: This fic (or at least the first chapters) based on my dream, which I saw after reading steffiechan's amazing story How to love a pirate. That's why there are some similarities between my and her stories.
Thanks: To Maeve, who beta-read the original story (in Finnish) and to Rita, who was very kind and translated this story for me.
Hot winds of the Caribbean
(Back in time)
The night was typically for November, when I was riding my bicycle with two huge bags from shop to home. It was surprisingly difficult to keep balance because the bags were tossing the handlebar side to another. Because of this my bike-riding was very winding.
It was dark and slippery on the road. Wet asphalt was glistening under the light of streetlamps. It started to drizzle and a mist was rising slowly from the lake nearby. I couldn't see very well ahead, but I was riding my bike quite fast familiar road to home. Suddenly I saw bright lights ahead. They came closer at terrible speed. Next thing I realized was killing pain all over my body. Then everything went dark.
~o~
My head was aching like hell, but I was definitely alive. I was obviously lying in a bed because the bottom was soft. I remembered the lights which had come towards me. I remembered the pain and the following darkness. I guess I had been hit by a car and now I lay in a hospital.
I opened my eyes slowly. My field of vision was very misty and at first I couldn't see the surroundings properly. Soon I noticed I was in a small, dark room which was lighted up by few candles. I wasn't in a hospital after all.
I rose to sit, which wasn't very easy because every muscle of mine was aching. I discovered I was wearing only panties and a T-shirt. Obviously someone had taken rest of my clothes off. I shivered when cold breeze of air touched my skin. I turned my head a little and I saw it coming through the window which was half open.
"Ye are finally awake", I heard someone saying and I turned my head again. I saw a table in the back of the small room and a man sitting by it. It was so dark I couldn't see him clearly, but I saw him drinking from a bottle.
The man put the bottle on the table, rose from the chair and walked to me. He observed me closely for a moment with his deepbrown eyes and I couldn't help staring at him either. He was tall and muscular. His face was very handsome and his hair was in dreds. Some of his dreds had been tied with pearls and other jewels. The man's beard was in two thin plats and his eyes had been marked with black colour.
"Luv, is everything alright?" he asked me worriedly, when I didn't say anything.
At once I realized he had spoken English. Where have I really ended up?
"A-are you a doctor?" I asked him uncertainly. The situation seemed little bit bizarre.
"Me?" the man laughed showing his goldteeth. "I'm sure not. I'm captain, captain Jack Sparrow."
"So I'm not in a hospital, am I?" I wondered.
"No, luv. Ye're on me ship, on the Black Pearl."
"On a ship? What a hel-?"
"Me crew picked ye up from the ocean. Ye were drifting there, luv", the captain informed me.
I was speechless. This man in front of me claimed he had found me from the ocean, although I was certain my accident had happened inland. It was at least 100 kilometers to the ocean from where I lived.
"So where are we then?" I asked. I hardly had ended up further than the Baltic Sea.
"In the Caribbean, luv", the man answered and looked at me oddly.
"We are not in Finland then, are we?" I wondered.
"In Finland? Where is it, luv?"
"Pshaw, never mind... And why are you calling me 'luv' all the time?" I inquired little bit irritably.
"I dunno know yer name yet, luv."
True, I hadn't introduced myself. I thought for a moment. My own name definitely would have heard strange for the Caribbean captain, and actually I didn't even want to tell it to him. So I decided to made up a name for myself.
"I am... Ann... Smith", I said gropingly.
"Welcome to the Black Pearl, the fastest pirate ship in the Caribbean, m'lady", the captain said.
What a hell? There haven't been pirates in centuries! Was this some kind of sick joke? A candid camera perhaps? Or could it be...? It couldn't be possible...?
"Well... Which year is it now?" I asked fearing the answer. The captain gave me strange look again.
"D'ye have an amnesia perhaps? It's year 1664, luv."
My heart jumped over one beat. I hadn't only ended up in the Caribbean, but also hundreds of years back in time. This could not be true. This couldn't be happening. "Would ye mind telling me why were ye drifting in the ocean?" Jack inquired.
"Well... I don't know..." I mumbled. "I remember a bright light and a horrible pain all over my body... Everything went dark and then I woke up in here", I explained. I knew my story sounded a quite unbelievable.
"Interesting. Which ship were ye on?" Jack asked me then.
"Ugh... I wasn't on any ship but in a dry land... Heading home..." I answered.
"Really?" the captain asked me looking doubtful. "Perhaps then someone threw ye in the ocean thinking ye were dead."
"Why would someone do that?" I stared. I had been hit by a car. Why would anyone have taken me to the Caribbean after it and have thrown in the ocean? This whole thing felt absurd.
"I dunno know, luv."
I stared the captain in a shock. I felt myself really tired and my head was still aching. I yawned broadly, but it didn't feel very comfortable.
"Maybe ye should rest still. Ye don't look very well", the captain remarked.
"You are probably right", I discovered. I didn't feel myself very comfortable alone with a strange man, but exhaustion kept closing my eyes. I lay down and closed my eyes wishing to wake up at home. Maybe everything was just a grazy dream.
