"Chasing the sun"

The sun was the light in his dark world. Dark hair, dark eyes, dark heart, but his whole essence yearned for the one thing it did not have. Light.

He wanted to grab it and make it part of him, even when he was younger, and full of light himself. One day, he gazed at the sunset, a ball of red poised on the edge of the earth, and in an act of childish foolishness, he ran. In his mind, the sun was at the end of the earth, and when he got there, he would grab onto it, and let the sun carry it away from his dark world.

He ran and ran, until his lungs burned and his legs ached, but he couldn't stop, the sun was there, it was so close. Even when it dipped over the horizon, he kept running, until his hope faded, as the last wisps of light succumbed to night.

People are born with a light inside of them, some small and others so bright they rival the sun. Sasuke's was on a candle. When his brother killed the whole clan, his light was extinguished, smothered by his brother's hands. When Naruto had confessed to him, and they both shared their first real kiss, he felt something flicker, and warm him from the inside out. And when Naruto had ended up asleep in Sasuke's arms, his warm tan fingers entwined with his own pale ones, he smiled.

Why chase the sun, when something even better was knocking at his doorsteps.
