Soft light lit the room

by the bed.

The walls were white

plastered with drawings.

A little girl of seven

pale hair glimmering

slept on sheets of light blue.

She held on with both arms

to her nighttime protector.

Waking from uneasy sleep

she clutched tighter.

She turned him around

stared into his smiling, fixed face.

"Teddy, that was scary.

Are you ok? Good."

Imaginary conversation

flows back and forth

between the girl and the bear.

She tires, closes blue eyes

falls back into dreams

while the teddy bear

watches over her sleep.
