Chapter 9 - New Arrivals

The following morning found Harry, Ron, Jean, and Scott waiting at the NY airport with a sign marked 'Grangers' waiting for the two boys other best friend to arrive. The previous evening Harry had called Hermione to find out what time she would arrive so she and her parents could be met.

As the plane landed in New York, Hermione suddenly had a feeling of foreboding, a feeling that everything was going to change. After the battle to retrieve their luggage, and going through customs Hermione started looking for the sign that Harry said he or Ron would be holding, but the place was so crowded that it was impossible to see, then over the top of all the people she saw a shock of red hair, and right next to it a very familiar head of messy black hair. So she fought her way through the crowd, followed by her parents towards the group she knew would be waiting.

Suddenly Harry found his arms full of bushy haired best friend; the Gryffindor Trio was back together. As Harry managed to right himself, he said "Hermione, this is my aunt Jean, and Uncle Scott. Jean, Scott this is our other best friend Hermione."

"Pleased to meet you" said Hermione "this is my family"

After greetings had been exchanged Scott said "Listen we need to talk. We have a van outside, can we give you a ride someplace?"

"Sure, be a damn sight easier than trying to get a taxi out there" said David Granger.

Once the small party was on the road and in New York traffic, the three friends began to explain what had happened so far that summer. "And now, here's the kicker" said Harry "I wont be returning to Hogwarts".

As Hermione gasped, Harry morphed into James and said "I will", then started to explain.

"Earlier this summer we discovered that I was a Metamorphamagus, so Professor Dumbledore came up with a plan to try and make Tom overconfident, and this is what we came up with. At the same time it was found that mum had another sister living in America, and they pulled me out of the Dursleys for good, with Remus scaring the crap out of them. So I will be attending Hogwarts as James Summers, who will be an exchange student from the Xavier Institute for the Gifted."

"And that's just the tip of the iceberg" added Ron

"The Xavier Institute is a school for mutant, to learn to control their powers. We kind of found a reason to be there too, so there has been a proper exchange program set up" said Harry "Me, and three other students will be coming to Hogwarts every other week, and on the same rota Ron and three other Hogwarts students will come to the Institute for the weeks that we are there." explained Harry

In the front of the car the Grangers were getting along quite well with Scott, and Jean. After hearing that Harry, one of their daughters best, and first friends had been rescued from the family that hated him, they took to the pair rather quickly. Over the time that Hermione had attended Hogwarts, they had heard much about Harry and became rather fond of him, especially after hearing about the problems he had to deal with, and the horrible people he had to deal with. The final straw had been the death of Sirius, Harry's Godfather. After hearing about what had happened in the department of mysteries, and the state Harry had been in until the end of school, Sarah and David Granger came to a decision; If Dumbledore wouldn't take Harry out of what was clearly an unsuitable environment, they would go to the authorities and get him out of there anyway. However the night before they had decided to inform Dumbledore of what needed to be done, Hermione had received a letter from Remus Lupin saying that Harry had other family living in the States, that they had finally been able to contact them, and that Harry would be removed from Privet Drive the next day.
