AN: This fic contains spoilers from V-force and all of G-rev, including minor season 1 flashbacks. This story intertwines the entire anime series into a slightly AU where I give Hilary a beyblade, everything else is still canon; it takes place before G-rev until the end of the series. I suggest watching all three original seasons to fully comprehend what's going on in each chapter, as my childmind was lucid and just assumed everyone had watched every episode like I had. Thus the flow of the first 10 chapters is horrid - I apologize in advance. I will do my best to fix it in the coming months.

UPDATE JAN 2018: Since I have decided to write a sequel to this decade-old story (I must be crazy and still living in my childhood). But as such, I will be giving Untouchable a FULL revise and proper beta in 2018. I did a weak revise back in 2006 and again in early 2015, but I am still not satisfied, specifically with the first half of this fic. I wrote this as a child growing into an awkward teenager, but I want to preserve this as the best version it can be.

The sequel and revise will be worked on in conjunction with my HP Dramione fanfic, so please be patient.

Enjoy.

Looking Back (Prologue)

"Hey Ray... Can I ask you something?" They sat shoulder to shoulder on the edge of the dojo porch, feet dangling as they sat in the quiet ambience of the pattering rain. Watching as the heavy raindrops slowly filled their training beydish. The sun would be setting soon, but you couldn't tell- not with the darkening clouds and looming thunder in the distance.

"Of course." His earnest response didn't surprise her, but she was hesitant anyway. Tyson, Max and Kenny were sprawled out behind them, sleeping off the food-induced coma they ate themselves into. After the intense training session, Kai had declined dinner and left abruptly.

Ever since the second World Championships had ended, she couldn't help but always be watching Kai; noticing his every move. She was starting to care about him, maybe, just a little.

"You mentioned you had a girlfriend, right? How did you figure out you liked her?" It was too embarrassing to ask what she really wanted to ask, so she tried this first.

"O-oh!" Ray blushed deeply at the unexpected question and the memory it triggered, thinking of a certain pink haired girl. "I guess it's because she's always been at my side when I needed her most. Before I realized, I was always looking for her to be there." Ray chuckled sheepishly at the thought before looking back down at his brunette friend. "Is there someone you like, Hilary?" His tone was almost suggestive.

If anyone would figure out her secret, it would be Ray. He could always read her like a book. It didn't help that Hilary told him anything and everything she couldn't tell anyone else. Over the year they had grown rather close, he was easy to talk to and he was always nice to her, even from the beginning. Ray was good with women; he was sensitive, empathetic and caring - Hilary could have easily seen herself attracted to him if he didn't already have a girlfriend. Instead, she slowly began to see him as a very close friend, maybe even a best friend, something Hilary never had before.

Hilary jolted at the idea of being found out and flustered immediately. "No! I mean- kinda... I mean - NO! I don't know..." Hilary moaned, dropping her face into her hands, her face flushing brighter than the neko-jins. "Maybe. It's weird. I'm weird." She mumbled into her palms.

Ray smiled and was about to pat his friend on the head and offer his advice when a bellow of familiar laughter echoed out the dojo and across the backyard from behind them.

"HILARY HAS A CRUSH ON SOMEONE?! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"

The cold rain pelted against her face as hurried footsteps echoed about the park. Her face was red from anger and exhaustion, no longer that of embarrassment.

"Hey onee-chan! Come play with us!" The delinquent yankees from her school called after her feebly. They probably didn't recognize her soaking wet form - most students at her school avoided her on purpose - but she wasn't about to pause to let them try to remember who she was, they would just bully her further.

Just like Tyson.

She was done with his vulgarity and immaturity. She had left the dojo in a huff, refusing to look back when Ray and Max called after her, Kenny was scolding Tyson's childlike insensitivity. A bitter reminder never to speak about personal things in such close proximity to her idiot classmate.

She needed to get away from Tyson and stop thinking about him. They were both driving her insane.

Hilary sprinted around a corner and bolted behind what appeared to be an abandoned apartment - or rather what she hoped to be abandoned. She would have kept running - if the sight of a familiar figure hadn't stopped her in her tracks.

The blue-haired teen looked up from his spinning beyblade, standing just under his balcony to avoid the rain; he took in her soaked figure. "Hilary?"

It took a total of 5 full seconds before her face flushed red when she realized her friend's current attire was quite revealing and appealing to the eye. Although it was already evening and raining in excess, Kai had worked himself into a sweat and stood there shirtless over his beyblade. He was training, again?!

"K-kai? What are you doing here?" She stammered, she took a step back from her uneasiness. Kai frowned at her stutter. Since when was Hilary afraid of him?

"I could ask you the same thing." He said coolly, his eyes flickered over her body, studying her reaction to him. She looked quite flustered; strange she only got like this if she was embarrassed or frustrated at someone.

"O-oh well... Tyson and I got in another fight, that's all." Hilary stuttered again slightly. That explained why she looked upset but it didn't explain why she was subtly trying to look anywhere else than at him.

Kai folded his arms over his chest, vaguely ignoring Dranzer spinning in the distance for a moment. He stared at the brunette in front of him, "Is there something wrong?" he asked resolutely, in a low voice.

"W-what? No!" Hilary shook her head profusely, closing her eyes so she wouldn't have to look at him again. This was not where she wanted to be right now. She wanted to be alone with her thoughts and feelings, not facing them head-on.

"Then why won't you look at me?" Kai asked tonelessly, staring at his female teammate in front of him.

Hilary's eyes shot up, and were suddenly locked with Kai's "I-I-"

BANG

The loud thunderclap and lightning flashed instantaneously, she broke away from his heated gaze to stare up at the darkening sky; a sudden gust of wind blew around her, bringing a heavier torrent of rain. Kai's shelter under the veranda no longer of use as the wind pushed the rain around him too.

She glanced back at Kai who hadn't stopped staring at her the entire time. Maybe he was worried that she was afraid of lightning or something? Or maybe he could see she was blushing like a ripe tomato… Oh God, she hoped not.

Kai sighed heavily, mentally recalling his beyblade as it flew back into his hand with ease. Kai made everything he did look easy, cool and natural. She watched as his fingered flexed around his blue beyblade before pocketing Dranzer.

Her eyes travelled up his wrist to his shoulders, noticing how broad they were. Suddenly her gaze was focused on Kai's chest again, watching as droplets of rain cascaded down every toned muscle on his chest and rippled abdomen.

Forgetting that she too was soaked to the skin after running around in the rain for the past hour, she stumbled backwards feeling slightly weak and completely flustered that she was even staring at him in the first place. In an instant she found herself falling flat on her back, the wet ground stinging her exposed flesh below her shorts and the cold rain biting at her skin. Her head spun and her ankle throbbed from the impact.

Within seconds, before Hilary even had a chance to sit up, Kai was kneeling beside her. And in one swift motion, she was lifted up into his arms, bridal style, as he stood. "Hilary, whats wrong with you? Not only are you soaked, but now your ankle is sprained." He hissed the obvious at her in annoyance. She was behaving like Tyson, it irritated him.

Now Hilary was really flustered, as she clung to his neck, her body pressed up against the nakedness of his chest- just what she needed when she was already embarrassed about the situation as it was.

Hilary was far too busy blushing (and trying not to stare at her saviour's body) to notice that he had carried her up the stairs to the apartment. The one she thought to be abandoned, turned out to be his goddamn abode or house or whatever he wanted to call it. A very clean and organized abode at that.

Kai set her down on the big cushions of the large couch, and she tried desperately to stare at anything else except Kai's nakedness. Who knew the rain could make him that much more irresistible... Hilary flushed deeper. 'Irresistible? Really, Hilary?'

Now Kai was getting irritated, truly - this girl was refusing to look at him. Was she afraid? Was she angry at him too? No, she seemed more afraid than anything... Why wouldn't she look him in the eyes? Usually, this girl was quite vocal and confident and never put up with his cold attitude bullshit. He liked that about her, how she seemed to see past his distant mask and call him on it. But now, she was the one being distant! He could never understand females.

Kai growled. He reached out and caressed a few drops of rain from Hilary's cheek, catching her attention- locking eyes with her. 'About time.' He mused. "Why won't you look at me?" he asked again for the second time.

Hilary shivered as an answer, and Kai noticed this- he also noticed that she was soaking wet... and her wet clothes were clinging to her finely curved body... great, now Kai was staring at her body. Kai shook his head, as he got to his feet to fetch a towel, and when he returned he noticed she was still shivering. "You should've used an umbrella." He chastised gently.

Draping the towel around her shoulders, he sat down and out of instinct he wrapped his arms around her. He hugged her close to the warmth of his own body, in an attempt to warm her with his body heat. But as he felt her tense beneath his fingers, Kai couldn't help but feel angry. Hilary was always the one initiating physical contact with him, usually consisting of a pat on his shoulder or the occasional hug when she was happy about something (not that he minded, mind you) - but when he returns the favour - she tenses up?! He pulled back to glare at her, "So, you are afraid of me! What's wrong with you!" he demanded finally.

"W-what? No! No Kai! I'm not afraid... it's just-" Hilary was cut off.

"It's just what? Why won't you look at me? What is with your sudden change in attitude?" Kai growled, he was getting irritated- they were supposed to be friends. Her words, of course, but he wasn't against it. She had referred to him as her friend during the last World Championship, it was unexpected at the time, but it made him strangely happy. Just like when the Blade Breakers accepted him as their friend two years ago. This took a long time for him to accept; that he had friends… but now that he was close to Hilary as well, he felt almost vulnerable like this.

Anyway, friends aren't afraid of each other. That alone he knew.

"I- well... That is - uh... Your shirt?" She offered lamely, unsure what else to say.

Kai followed her gaze and then noticed that she was staring at his wet, muscular chest and his lack of said shirt. Hilary was now beyond uncomfortable and embarrassed. Kai blinked... did Hilary find him attractive? If so, Kai being half-naked was making her flustered? Kai blinked again as he processed the information.

Kai smacked his forehead, "And here I thought it was because you were afraid." He groaned, before slumping back against the couch. It was a relief. Humorous, but still a relief.

Hilary blinked, he didn't even care, he made no move to cover his chest or get dressed- he simply wasn't bothered by the thought or anything. He seemed more relieved that she didn't hate him and that she wasn't afraid of him. He wasn't repulsed... mind you, it wasn't like she confessed her attraction towards him. She was simply nervous because he was a partially naked guy, well - that's what she kept telling herself anyway. Hilary smiled weakly yet sheepishly. 'Heh', I scared him...'

"Next time just tell me!" Kai huffed, as he watched Hilary blush lightly again.

Again she looked away, "It wasn't that easy..." she murmured quietly, hoping he hadn't heard, but he did.

She could hear the rain pattering loudly against the windows of his apartment; thunder rumbled through the city and the wind pushed against the creaking frame of the building, breaking the silence between them.

Hilary couldn't help but think about Ray's words as she watched Kai from the corner of her eye.

''Shes always been at my side when I needed her most. Before I realized, I was always looking for her to be there.''

Kai was always at her side when she needed him most too. He went out of his way to protect her, even though their first impression of one another probably could have gone better (considering she accused him of being evil after he completely ignored her), he was still there for her when she needed him… and she found herself needing him increasingly more often.

/v-force flashback/

Trapped on that stupid island, Hilary and Kenny walked ahead of Kai, trying to make small talk - anything to make themselves feel less anxious and pass the time.

Hilary had never had to deal with strangers trying to steal things from her and she certainly had never been a prisoner before, but this was something that didn't seem to faze Kai or the rest of his team. And though Kenny was nervous (he was nervous by nature she realized), Hilary really felt scared by the whole situation. She just wanted to escape this place and go home. So they were slowly making their way up the path of the mountain to reach the lighthouse, in hopes of getting a radio signal to call for help.

Suddenly, there was a low rumble followed by a loud boom that shook their cliff path. Hilary frowned turning to Kenny who looked equally as confused as she did.

"Hilary! Kenny!" she spun instantly staring at Kai who looked frantic, "Look out!" he gasped in fear - Yes, fear . . . for some brief moments, the Kai Hiwatari had fear in his eyes. That look of fear in his eyes shook Hilary to the core.

Hilary and Kenny both looked up, following Kai's upward gaze; an explosion above them had caused a rock slide, the boulders were tumbling down, closing in on top of them. She wasn't even sure if she even had time to scream. Hilary's feet wouldn't move, fear had sealed her fate. In sheer desperation, Hilary threw her arms over her head, the crash of the rocks above her told her it would be in vain - but suddenly something hard hit her side, pushing her roughly into the wall of the mountain.

Dust clouded around them, she could hear Kenny coughing somewhere beside her but Hilary still refused to open her eyes. Her body trembling with adrenaline, she coughed loudly too as the dust and debris burned her lungs. Slowly the smoke and dust from the earth cleared. "Is it over?" she asked in a quiet raspy voice, hesitantly opening one eye, her body still pressed against the wall.

She glanced up to see Kai open his eyes as well. He was standing over her, protecting her from the rock slide - hovering over her like a shield; taking any hit that would have come her way. Though now everything was silent and still, albeit their heavy breathing, she couldn't help but stare at him for the moment. He seemed unharmed, "K-Kai?" She gasped, looking up at him in disbelief.

Did he really just save her life? Was he hurt?

Kai looked down at her, with a soft expression, not cold and hard, but soft and worried, "You okay?" he asked quietly, blinking once.

Hilary was still in shock; he had saved her life. He had risked his own for hers. She nodded timidly, despite the dull pain in her left shoulder from the impact. "Yeah . . ." she glanced over to Kenny, who was clutching his laptop, he seemed fine. Kai must have pushed him into the wall too but Kai he was standing over her, protecting her. He saved them . . . but he protected 'her'.

Hilary's attention turned to the rock wall, which separated them from the rest of the path. "Oh no!" she groaned in realization. How were they ever going to escape at this rate?

Kai looked up, "That was close . . ." he muttered to himself, slowly lowering his hands from either side of her body as he stood up tall to look around.

"We're trapped!" Kenny shrieked.

"There is no way to go now, you might as well turn back while you still can!" Laughed a voice over a loud intercom. A mad scientist, trying to keep them on the island-

Kai glared angrily around, before approaching the rock wall. Kai ignored the voice's warning and began to climb up it slightly.

Hilary's eyes lit up, her shattered hopes mending as she stared at the blue-haired bladers back. "That's it! So, are we going with you?" She more or less affirmed, rather hopefully.

Kai just glanced over his shoulder and gave a soft smirk, if Hilary didn't know any better she'd say it was an actual soft smile.

Hilary squeal with delight, hugging Kenny briefly before running up behind Kai to start climbing too. "C'mon Kenny!" she smiled, as she began to lift herself up.

Hilary supposed her infatuation began then. Though she always had thought of him as cute - evil maybe, but definitely cute - but she truly began to appreciate the type of person he was the day he saved her life. He wasn't as cruel and selfish as she initially presumed him to be. She really didn't mind being wrong about him. She was relieved even.

"Hilary... lay down."

Hilary completely jolted out of her thoughts, glanced behind her to find Kai lying down on the couch, staring up at her. At some point, he had found a clean black shirt, and pulled it on while she was lost in thought. He tossed her wet towel across the room as he pulled out a large blanket from behind the couch. He didn't have a proper bed in this apartment and often just crashed on the couch if he wasn't crashing at Tyson's dojo; but since this couch was large enough for two people comfortably, Kai made a decision.

It was already late, and he knew she wouldn't be in any mood to return to Tyson's place if the argument had her running away from him and the others in the first place. He could tell the girl was cold and out of sorts. Hilary wasn't herself and Kai wasn't about to let her run off again - not in this weather.

With her body frozen in shock, Kai wrapped an arm around her waist and brought her down beside him. Draping his right arm over her, he pulled her close. "You'll stay here tonight." It was more or less an order, not a request. Kai was always assertive as the Blade Breakers team captain, and he didn't hesitate to include Hilary in their team either.

"O-okay..." Hilary stuttered, her face flushed red as she stared at the wall, trying to ignore the fact that Kai was cuddling with her to keep her warm...

Kai smirked slightly at this, "You can stop doing that now." He said coolly, tightening his hold around her waist, bringing her closer to his chest.

"Do-doing what?"

Kai rolled his eyes, "Stuttering like that! I have a shirt on now... It's only me."

Hilary relaxed slightly, but the blush didn't fade. She fought the urge to roll her eyes, mostly at herself; as if him wearing a shirt would make her less nervous while cuddling with a guy she found attractive.

"Good night, Hilary." Kai murmured against her shoulder, warming it with his breath.

"Good night." She smiled slightly, letting the exhaustion of the day and the warmth of the phoenix take her into sleep.

The next morning was... awkward.

To say the least.

She woke up in the arms of Kai Hiwatari. But in her bleary state, she had completely forgotten her embarrassment from the night before. As she stretched her tired limbs and turned over, she found herself face to face with the blue-haired teen. His lips mere inches from hers.

Kai was awake and watching her intently in the silence. His blue hair a tousled mess and the blue tattooed sharkfins on his cheeks seemed more flushed than usual. Hilary's heart pounding loudly in her ears- her stomach had somehow managed to somersault and settle itself in her throat making it hard for her to swallow. Kai smelled so good- she didn't want to turn away.

Kai watched as Hilary's eyes darted about his face before the settled their gaze back down on his lips. Kai leaned forward slightly, gauging her reaction. Out of reflex and anticipation, Hilary's eyes began to flutter shut -

BZZZT!

Kai's phone rang from its place on the coffee table, vibrating loudly against the wood. At this they both bolted upright; Hilary to toppled off the couch as Kai reached for the phone. He glanced at her, sending her a silent apology as he answered the call.

"What?" He snapped into the phone- obviously frustrated and pissed about being interrupted. He would castrate whoever it was that was phoning him this early in the morning.

Hilary, completely embarrassed and flustered, was out the door before she had a chance to find out who had called. Too afraid to look back; she ran all the way home.

Mystic: Chap 1 successfully revised in 2018! Older readers may notice I made this chapter significantly longer, less rushed, added flashbacks and adjusted the word flow. Thoughts?

Reviews are appreciated.
