Disclaimer: I don't own this stuff. MINOR SPOILERS FOR BOOK FIVE- BUT IF YOU"RE MORE THAN 7 CHAPTERS IN YOU"RE FINE.
Tonks kicks ass. She and Luna Lovegood are the two coolest female characters in book five. (JK has really made Hermy a wimp in this book!) And since Tonks has kinda been lost in all the hubbub about the end (y'know what I mean!) I wrote this.
Purple-Haired and Invisible
"Purple hair today? No. Pink? No. Blue. No." Nymphadora Tonks stood in front of the mirror in her dormitory room, changing her hair color simply by thinking about it. Perk of being a Metamorphmagus, her friend Jaeni Matthews supposed: you never needed hair dye. Downside: while most girls her age got up early to sort out outfits, Tonks took more time to sort out her hair color, eye color…
"Oh just pick one!" Jaeni insisted. Tonks settled on purple. "Wasn't that your first choice?" Jaeni complained.
Tonks shrugged, squinted, and open her newly-shock-blue eyes. "Nice," her friend commented dryly.
"Thanks."
"So, who's your money on for Saturday's match," Jaeni continued as they descended to the common room, "Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff?"
But Tonks wasn't listening. She had stopped walking and was staring vaguely at the fireplace with a dreamy look in her now-orange eyes. Jaeni stopped. What was so interesting about the fireplace? Then she saw who was standing beside it: the man of Tonks' dreams, Remus Lupin.
"Oh, give it up," Jaeni insisted, pulling her friend out by the arm. "He's a seventh year, he's five years older than you!"
"He's dreamy," Tonks insisted, using the first full sentence that Jaeni had heard her speak all morning. The Yule Ball was coming in a few days, and Tonks somehow had delusions of asking Remus, which had consumed her thoughts for the past week. "He's so… so serious. Intelligent."
Jaeni rolled her eyes. "You have horrible tastes in men, you know. He may not be ugly, but he's nothing compared to that Sirius Black. Now there's a man! He's handsome, he's mischievous…"
"He's my mum's kid cousin," Tonks continued, grinning. "I don't exactly consider him an option." Then she turned serious again.
"Damn, I liked you more pre-puberty," Jaeni complained. "If you're going to fall for a guy, keep him within two years of your age. My mum always told me that."
"Oh yeah, we have such prizes in our year," Tonks replied sarcastically, a bit pf her pre-Remus obsession personality showing through. "I swear some of them still wet their beds at night."
"And the demi-god Remus of course has no flaws?" Jaeni asked as they reached the great hall.
"Uh… nope!" Tonks said dreamily. "Reddish hair, golden eyes, gorgeous cheekbones…"
Breakfast appeared and the conversation slowly turned to other matters, once Tonks had ran out of appealing physical characteristics to name. Jaeni thought she had finally heard the last of Lord Remus when, late as usual, he and his friends Sirius, James and Peter strode in and settled themselves a few spaces down from her and Tonks. Tonks immediately blushed, and unconsciously her hair and eyes both became brown, their natural, unaltered, unspectacular coloration.
Jaeni stared at Sirius, a brief fluttering in her stomach. However, she knew that whatever she was feeling, Tonks was feeling a hundred times over.
Jaeni sighed. Tonks could be annoying with her constant talk of Remus, but then again it couldn't be easy to be purple-haired and invisible.
Yeah! I was really bored! I don't think I did Tonks any justice… did I mention she's really cool? I think I'm a bit more like Luna, though… I'm a total oddball… please review, I think we all needed a little OotP-based semi-levity, what with, well, you know.
