Walking down the dark tunnels of Musutafu, Japan was a teenager with a large leather book floating in front of her just above her hand. Her long green hair was tied back into a simple low ponytail to keep it out of the way. She was nearly
"Well, well a skinsuit that is just my Size." A blob of dark green sewage opened an eye and looked at the girl. "Now just…" A tentacle wrapped around the girl's arm "...Die."
"Captis" The girl looked back and a blue cube popped into existence around the sludge. "This will last about…
"HAVE NO FEAR CITIZEN! FOR I AM HERE!" a loud voice came out of the sewer and a tall wall of muscle soon followed. "You will not be Escaping today Villian."
"I already incapacitated him after he tried top kill me." The girl pulled her backpack off and opened it. She pulled a pile of post-it noted out with a pen. "This cube will vanish in an hour. Please get him to the police before this time." She wrote the current time on the note and put it on the blue cube.
"Well Done." The tall man looked as the girl packed her things up and began to walk past, her nose already buried deep in the large leather book again, this time a Quill of all things moved across the page at a blinding speed. "I need you to come with me to the station to give your statement."
It was as her head was even with his body as her eyes went wide and she looked straight at where his wound was and she looked up.
"That explains why your active time has gone down in the last five years." The girl leaned closer and a set of thick glasses appeared out of nowhere in front of her eyes. "You are cursed or something. The wound has never fully healed? It is clear this wasn't the Toxic Chainsaw so it must have been a different villain that was never publicized."
"What are you talking about?" The man began to sweat. "I have never been healthier."
"All Might. It is clear that you are badly injured and anyone with half a brain can see that you are less present at things that you use to be." The girl still looked at the injury under his shirt. "I need a week and I should be able to remove the problem I just need to…" She stopped mid-sentence and turned back to her book and walked away. It was when she was at the end of the ally did she look up and let a piece of paper come floating down the tunnel.
All Might was stunned and grabbed the paper, on it was an address and name, Izumi Midoriya. Looking back at the villain in the cube and sigh, he would have to get answers later after taking care of the villain.
-SCENE CHANGE-
Izumi was just getting back into her reading when a knock at her door came. She never had visitors and her mother was safe in their house outside the city limits as she just got back from dinner. She looked at the black cat sitting behind the laptop who gave a shrug meaning she didn't order anything from the internet that was due to arrive. With a sigh, she let her book float back and stood up from the large table covered in papers, books, and way too many disposable coffee cups.
She looked through the peephole and saw a man with a suit under a tan overcoat and what could only be described as a skeleton with skin and blonde hair. With another sigh she opened the door, "Can I help you?" she was a little annoyed she had research to do and these people were interrupting.
"Good evening, My name is Detective Tsukauchi and this Toshinori Yagi. We are here to discuss the villain attack today."
"I explained to All Might that he tried to kill me, I captured him and handed him over to the nearest hero to be turned in." Izumi had not opened the door all the way as it was a little late for the police of all people to come by to ask her questions. "If you have more questions you should direct them to him. Now if you will please excuse me I have homework to do before class in the morning."
"Midoryia-san, please do not lie to me." The Detective gave the girl a harsh look. "You are doing something that is not homework and we would like an explanation on what you were talking about with All Might."
"Come in, and excuse the mess." Izumi knew that it was a bad idea to anger the police. "I was not expecting guests for a while and haven't had time to clean."
Tsukauchi and Yagi stepped into the dark apartment and were greeted by the smell of stale coffee and about a dozen other smells. As they walked inside they noticed the lack of decorations and other aspects that would make this apartment seem like a home.
"Midoriya-san, do you live here by yourself?"
"Kinda, this is more my lab and study. Mom moved outside the city about five years ago." Izumi began to clean off the table. "Coffee?"
"Please." Tsukauchi nodded and waited for a chair to be cleared off. "What exactly does your mother do? If she can afford to have two residences that she must be well off and why didn't you move with her?"
"I did." Izumi got annoyed and just waved her hand and a slight glow lingered in the air. All the junk on the table floated off the table and began to organize itself. "Take a seat." She sat herself down and waited for the coffee maker to ding.
"If you moved with your mother that why are you here in Musutafu?"
"I go to school at Aldera." Izumi reached over to her backpack and pulled an ID out. "I didn't feel like transferring to a new school district so I just commute from here every day and when I want to work on things I have a quiet place to myself." She ignored the small cough from the next room over.
"Seems like a long commute every day," Yagi stated.
"It is only a ten-minute walk from here."
"But you just said you moved with your mother to the outside of Tokyo." Tsukauchi again turned a harsh glare at the girl. "Explain."
"That is not what you came here for and I believe the coffee's done so we can get back the real reason that you are here for. And interrogating a minor without legal representation is against the law. I am willing to explain what I can about All Might's wounds but personal facts are not on the table." Just as she said that the ding rang out and she poured out the coffee into her last two mugs and handed them to her 'guests'. She looked for a slightly clean mug for herself but couldn't find one so she poured it into one of the extra disposable cups she kept for her walk to school each morning.
"Right, you made mention that All Might was being weakened by something?" Yagi asked with a look of true curiosity.
"Yes, on his left side there is an injury that seems to be sapping his strength." Izumi took a long drink from the black coffee. "Whomever inflicted the wound did more than just damage to his body. They did something that when I met him earlier today triggered a sense of mine."
"What sense was that?"
"Magic." Izumi stated clearly.
"You can sense magic?" Tsukauchi looked at her with disbelief. "Magic doesn't exist even in this world of quirks."
"My quirk is Mana. I produce a set amount of mana each day that I can utilize in ways that can only be described as magic. The cube that I used on the villain was a spell I call my Capture Cube. It creates a barrier that is nearly impenetrable from the inside."
"So your quirk allows you to use this energy to create a force field." Yagi was impressed. "But that is hardly magic."
"Yosei, can you come out here please?" Izumi yelled into the back.
"Pass, in the middle of something here." a small voice answered back.
"Excuse me real quick." Izumi stood up and walked into the back room and the two men could hear a commotion coming from the back. A minute or so later Izumi returned with an annoyed looking cat floating behind her. The cat was dark as night with a green bandana tied around its neck and what looked like a glowing paw,
"This is Yosei. My familiar before she was, she was a normal cat that I rescued after an incident. I tried to use my quirk to heal her and while it worked she also gained a large intelligence boost." Izumi picked the cat out of the air and placed him on the table. "She lost a paw in the incident but I was able to create a small item that converts some of the mana that ties us together and creates a replacement."
The two men looked at the cat shocked there was no way that this was the voice that answered back.
"Look, can you just accept what she told you? I was in the middle of a kill streak and I probably lost that when you pulled me away." The cat talked back and tried to sink a claw into her owner's hand but she was able to keep it from sinking in. Both men gave a nod and Izumi put him back on the ground and let her pad away.
"So what did you want to talk about, I explained that it would take me a week to properly prepare for the removal of the problem that is affecting All Might." Izumi picked up her coffee again and drained the last bit.
"Can you Identify exactly why some of the best healers in the world couldn't find and remove this problem but a 14-year-old girl with no medical knowledge can?"
"If my mother would have allowed me to, I would have been mostly through college by now if not finished." Izumi floated over the coffee pot and poured herself another cup. "'No, going to school with people your age will be a good experience.' She said." Izumi gave a small laugh. "I haven't tried in school since I was 6 and I am still one of the top 3 students."
"That still doesn't answer my question," Yagi stated. He let out a small cough that carried a little blood with it. The coppery smell of blood did not go unnoticed by Izumi.
"Does Recovery Girl have the ability to detect hostile energy?" Izumi asked. "I can, that is why I know that it is sapping more energy than a normal wound. It is buried deep within the wound and my sense was only able to pick it up when I was within a foot or two of the injury."
"And now that we know that there is a problem what is keeping us from going to Recovery Girl and telling her that there is something wrong and have her handle it?"
"I say again can she sense hostile energy under 5 years of scaring?" Izumi just hung her head. People were so stubborn even when she explained things, she had never met another person that could use mana. So why wouldn't she be the best to know how to handle things that involved things that she could sense.
"But you have said there is energy so we just need to know exactly where it is and we can remove it," Yagi stated. "We thank you for telling us that you think that there is a problem but we have seen his records and he is just fine."
"Then you can go and I hope that All Might shows up next week and the one hundred and fifty hours I am about to sink into this is worth it." Izumi took a long sip of her coffee and stood up. "I am tired and have to get some sleep before I really get into the research. So I am going to have to ask you to leave."
"Now Midoriya-san we are only asking why you think that he is getting weaker and why you think you are the only one that can fix it?"
"If you want more than what I have already explained that you are just out of luck. I have explained that there is something affecting All Might and that he has been less prevalent in the last 5 years due to that." Izumi placed the cup into the sink and then moved towards the door. "Have a nice night." she motioned to the door. And then turned down the hall and into the room where the cat had been.
"Come on, Tsukauchi" Yagi walked towards the door. "We will talk to Recovery Girl in the morning."
"Something doesn't add up, a lot of things actually, I need to look into this girl a bit more." Tsukauchi stepped into the hallway with Yagi and as he was reaching for the door it shut on himself. With a sigh the two men walk away into the night.
-SCENE CHANGE-
The next morning Izumi was woken by Yosei batting at the back of her head. With a groan she picked herself off the table and pulled a piece of paper that had gotten stuck on it off.
"Your mom called and wanted to make sure that you went to school." she licked her paw as she said that. "But I called the school and said you would not be in for the next few days due to catching a cold."
"Good Kitty." Izumi gave the cat a small scratch. "It is such a waste of time for me to go to school anyway. Putting the voice change spell on the phone was a good idea."
"True but if you miss too much they will call your mom and then you have to deal with that." the Cat hopped over to the counter and pushed the cabinet open. "Now before we get to work I demand tuna."
"Needy little." Izumi reached over and pulled the tab and let her familiar eat her breakfast. "So it looks like it is reheated fried rice for me."
For the next little bit the two ate in silence and when they were finished they began to lay the diagrams and notes out on the table. For the next few hours, they talked and researched and did everything that they could to make some progress on removing the infliction from All Might.
It was when the sun was setting that the two pulled themselves from their work to have some dinner. Izumi went over to the bathroom and washed quickly and put her uniform on as to fool her mother into thinking that she attended school that day. With a small chant, a portal opened and through it, Izumi saw the inside of her room in her other house. She picked Yosei up and walked through the portal.
"Hey, Mom," Izumi answered as she landed safely. "Something smells good."
"Hi Honey." Inko Midoriya poked her head out of the kitchen and smiled at her daughter. "Dinner is almost ready. We are having Soba tonight."
"Sounds good." Izumi put Yosei down and she quickly went over to Inko and climbed up to drape herself around her neck.
"Your daughter is a slave driver." Yosei nuzzled into Inko's neck. "Always making me help her with her work and only letting me play games for a few hours a day."
"Only when I have a project."
"You always have a project." Yosei shot back.
"What are you working on now?" Inko knew her daughter was smart but there were times when she wished she was a little more like the other girls.
"I came across an infliction on a pro and have no real idea on how to remove it." Izumi let out with a sigh. "Between school and this, I am going to have a busy week."
"Maybe just focus on school right now, don't want to fall behind do you?" Inko put a small hand on her daughter's shoulder.
"Come on mom, we both know that I would go crazy if I only focused on school." Izumi began to set the dinner plates. "I wish you would have at least let me test out of Middle School."
"No, I have seen what happens when people start skipping grades and have no peers their age." Inko was holding firm on this. "The last thing you need to be is more isolated from people your age."
"Ugh..it is so boring."
"Too bad, besides you have Katsuki in your class that has to make it a little interesting."
"Oh yes." Izumi rolled her eyes under her hair. "All the yelling and explosions and don't forget the ego."
"Come on, he must have gotten better over the last few years."
"Ha, that is a good one." Izumi let out a laugh that Yosei echoed. "Are you taking comedy lessons?"
"Izumi, I am serious."
"Mom, the school treats him like a king and with that quirk no one can actually stop him from doing what he wants." Izumi reached up and pulled the cat off her mom. Yosei was getting annoyed at the talk of Katsuki and she needed to be petted. "Can we not talk about this anymore? I have to deal with him enough."
"Ok, but I still say you and he would be great together."
"Nope." Izumi flashed a red X in the air. "That will never happen."
"Ok…" Inko playfully said going back to her cooking.
"So anything else happening around here?" Izumi was rubbing Yosei's back and getting a steady purr back.
"I got a call from the Musutafu Police about you getting attacked by a villain and they wanted to make sure I was informed."
"He barely touched me then All Might showed up." Izumi stated.
"So were you excited to meet All Might?"
"I was a little preoccupied with something else, and I have outgrown my All Might obsession," Izumi stated.
"Honey, there was a time that if you met All Might it would be all you talked about for weeks."
"I was five."
"Eight"
"Lies. I was trying to figure out how I turned a normal cat into a talking one with a genius IQ."
"Pretty Sure you All Might Scrunchies are still in your room." Inko teased her daughter.
"We agreed to never speak of those again." Izumi pouted.
Izumi was happy to be out of her lab for a little while it always seemed to refresh her when she was with her mom but she knew that the next week would be a stressful time.
Dinner was quiet and after things had settled down the two Midoriya women went for a small walk to get some fresh spring air. After returning back to the house Izumi gathered up some clean clothes that would last her for the next few days and opened the portal back to the apartment back in Musutafu and stepped through.
Once she was back she pulled her hair back into its normal low ponytail and did one more quick food and caffeine run to a local convenience store. With a few bags of tuna, cup ramen, something special for Yosei and enough coffee to run a small platoon of soldiers she returned to the apartment and found Yosei back at her laptop.
"More trading?" Izumi looked over her cat's shoulder. There were multiple windows open with numbers flying across. Her cat saw typing away at the larger keyboard for people whose hands have been affected by quirks.
"Yea just get started it market closed in about half an hour."
"How far are we up?"
"Since the very beginning or today?"
"Both."
"4.5 Million and 193K."
"Good greedy Kitty." Izumi gave the fluffball a slice of Salmon. "I should have named you, Yen."
"You can't bribe me with mere salmon."
"Smoked Miso Salmon."
"That will do it." Yosei looked over at the fish. "I guess I can call it a day.'' She walked over to the salmon and slowly devoured it and not long after she padded into the kitchen and the two set back to work on helping All Might.
-SCENE CHANGE-
It was three days of constant work and research when the next knock happened at the door. Izumi was a complete mess. Her hair was sticking up in more directions than normal, there were black bags under her eyes and she was paler than her normal skin tone.
Unlike last time she just opened the door without looking out the peephole and she immediately regretted it. It was a small group of people. The first was the pair from a few nights ago and the others were a white...Bear...Cat..Mouse...thing and a tall scruffy looking man with a long grey scarf tied around his neck.
"Can I help you all?" Izumi mumbled out.
"Midoriya-san are you sick?" Yagi was the first one to answer.
"No, just tired four days into researching and finally having a breakthrough. Now I just need to create the ritual to remove it." Izumi leaned against the door frame. With a wave of her hand a mug of coffee floated into her hand. "What do you need this time?"
"To continue the talk from a few nights ago," Tsukauchi answered. "You left us with quite a few questions and a very annoyed Recovery Girl."
"So you bring the Principle of Yuuei and Eraserhead with you?" Izumi took a quick sip of coffee. "You were expecting me to what? Blast you out the door? Threaten you? Expose All Might's weakness?" That one got a small response that she was looking for from Yagi and Tsukauchi.
"We just want to talk." the White thing put a handout. "I am Nezu and you correctly guessed that I am the principle of Yuuei."
"Didn't guess," Izumi stated. "I look into all the high-level people in the Hero world. Not going to apply for a place if the management is incompetent." Izumi took another sip. "I also look into underground heroes that interest me." she made mention of Eraserhead. "His quirk is fascinating."
"Well, it seems that things are going to be interesting tonight." Nezu waved at the girl. "Now if we could talk inside."
"Sorry but things have gotten worse in the last few days and I am in the middle of the preparation for a ritual and the time I am spending with you is taking away from my prep time." Izumi took a step back and began to shut the door.
"Midoriya-san…" Yagi tried to get her attention before the door shut but he was unable to stop it. Just as the door was about to shut a black boot wedged itself between the frame and the door.
"Midoriya, if you do not answer our questions I will have no choice but to call Aldera and inform them of a truant student and also inform your mother that you have been skipping school."
The last one was the real threat, Izumi could care less what Aldera thought but if she pissed her mother off, she would be locked up tighter than ever.
"Look, can we just not do this right now? I have at most three hours of sleep in the last four days and explaining things again is going to be a total pain." Izumi looked at the group. "If you want a slightly less annoying version I think this can wait until the morning."
"That is doable." Nezu raised a hand and turned away. "Stop by Yuuei around nine tomorrow and we can hash out the issues."
"Bye" Izumi kicked the boot out of the door and shut it.
"This wouldn't have happened if you had more sleep." Yosei took her shot at Izumi. "A more awake version of you would have looked through the peephole and avoided this whole problem."
Izumi just gave a groan and headed back to the kitchen table where her book floated. She began to collect things and make piles of what she would need for the meeting in the morning. It was around ten when she finally went into the back room and collapsed on to the futon there and fell asleep.
