I'm back after two months! Sorry for not writing anything, I was kind of in a rut, but that new Owl House sneak peek gave me some inspiration. Enjoy!

Grom sounded exciting. Proms back on Earth were fun at exciting (depending on who you were with of course) so naturally, magic prom should be even more fun right?

Except it wasn't.

An embarrassing accident, some cursed punch, and a freaky tiara that made you see your worst nightmares left everyone tired, ragged and ready to go home.

Luz was waiting at Hexside's stairs by the entrance for Eda, who in her own words, "wanted to get away from the hormone-and-teenage-drama-filled environment" and told her to call her when she wanted to go home.

"You sure you don't want us to wait with you?", asked Gus, who made his way to Luz's side alongside Willow.

Luz put on a fake smile. "No no, I don't want you guys to be late, it's been a long night and I'm sure you wanna go home."

Willow and Gus looked at each other, clearly not believing her. Willow spoke up, "well, if you need to talk just give us a call. See ya on Monday." They left for their respective destinations and waved at their friend

Luz waved back, and as soon as the two were out of sight her mood dropped again.

It's not that she hated magic OR her time at Hexside, far from it. But part of her missed that sense of normalcy from back home, and she thought Grom would've helped her. Again, everything went fine save for a few accidents; she hung out with Gus and Willow, goofed off with some silly dances, and even managed to have a good talk with —

"Luz?"

Crap. Speak of the devil.

Luz turned around and saw Amity walking out of the school. "Amity, what are you still doing here?"

"I could ask you the same thing.", said Amity, as she made her way and sat beside Luz.

"Waiting for Eda, you?"

"Waiting for my siblings. They're hanging out with their classmates to see who can", Amity made finger quotes, "'prove they're the least weenies of them all'."

That managed to get a chuckle out of Luz. It made Amity happy to see her like that, for some unknown reason.

Luz looked out into the sky. She sighed after a brief moment. "Tonight was a disaster."

"Can't say I disagree with you.", said Amity. "I told the principal to get rid of that stupid tiara ages ago and he kept saying it was funny seeing all the students get scared."

"That's awful."

"Yep."

The two had a brief silence. Luz then spoke up, "I just… wish it was a little more normal you know?"

"I don't know, what do you mean?" Answered Amity.

"Don't get me wrong, I love the Boiling Isles, and Hexside and Gus and Willow are great, and you've been such a cool and patient friend", Luz missed the way Amity's cheeks faintly brightened with that last remark, "but like… sometimes I kinda miss the mundane nature from back home, y'know? And… I thought Grom would've been my chance to just. Be a regular teen for one night in the Isles, worrying about regular teen things." Luz sighed , "but I should've known that wasn't gonna be possible."

Luz looked down sadly, while Amity processed what she said. It's been a little over a month since she met Luz, and it never occurred to her that she'd miss being back home, what with how excited she was over everything in the Isles. And it honestly broke her heart seeing Luz this upset.

She wasn't gonna stand for it.

"Do you have your um… rectangular calling device with you?, asked Amity.

Luz looked at her questioningly for a moment. "Y-you mean my cellphone? Yeah I do, w-why?"

"I need it for a moment."

Luz unlocked her phone and gave it to Amity, who quickly got to work looking for "the worldwide video app" as she called it despite Luz's many corrections. After she found it, she looked for a song she listened to on one of the many "80's playlists" Luz introduced her to. She found it and pressed play.

Luz immediately recognized the song and her cheeks turned bright. "A-Amity, w-what are you doing?"

"W-well, the night's not over yet and I f-figured you at least deserved a nice way to end it. S-so…", Amity stammered out as she stood up and mad her way in front of Luz, face burning red. She outstretched her hand. "…wanna dance with me?"

Luz looked stunned, and her face had turned a deep red. She hadn't given it much thought but she wanted to dance with Amity all night. And now she was offering her that very thing? There was only one answer she could give.

"Uh… s-sure!" Luz squeaked out, making them both flinch. They looked at each other for a moment before chuckling awkwardly.

Luz made her way to Amity, before pausing for a moment. She looked scared.

"Trust me. It's just us." Amity said, her voice wavering, but one of them had to comfort the other right?

"Right. J-just us."

Luz and Amity tentatively grasped each other's right hands. Amity put her left hand on Luz's shoulder, while Luz put hers on Amity's waist. They began swaying to the beat slowly, and fell into the groove quicker than either of them expected (after a few fumbles which lead to more awkward chuckles).

Luz, feeling emboldened, twirled Amity around, catching her off guard. "Whoa", Amity said stunned, her cheeks brightening up even more.

"Sorry, just felt right for the moment." Luz said.

"Don't be sorry. Just surprised me is all.", said Amity, after snapping out of her trance.

The two continued swaying side to side, indulging each other in a few twirls and flashy moves that were way off-beat, which caused them to laugh before moving to their default position.

"I didn't get to mention it, but y-you look gorgeous tonight. W-well, y-you look gorgeous every d-day but tonight y-", Luz rambled, her face turning redder.

"Luz, breathe, I get it, thank you!" Amity cut her off, her face equally as red. "S-same goes for y-you too."

The two looked at each other, still swaying, their smiles growing, lost in each others' eyes.

The song ended, but the pair kept their hands on each other, neither wanting to break the moment. Suddenly their faces unconsciously moved closer and-

"YO LUZ!"

Luz and Amity jumped out of their skin, jumping far apart from each other. They looked to the source of the scream and they found Eda looking at them with faint annoyance, waiting for her in her broom.

"I've been waiting for you for the past 3 minutes but you were so lost in your gushy romantic dance that you didn't even notice me!" Eda said before laughing.

Luz and Amity were both looking at anything but each other, their faces flushed red with embarrassment. Amity was the first to attempt to speak, but Luz threw her arms around her and pulled her into a hug.

"Thank you. For making my first Grom special."

Amity stood stunned before remembering she had to hug her back, and wrapped her arms around Luz. "Anytime, human."

They stayed like that for a moment before separating, their arms still around each other. "Guess I gotta go look for my siblings now.", Amity said.

"Yea I gotta get going too. Eda looks like she's about to throw up." Luz said, causing Amity to laugh.

They let go of each other fully. But in a sudden flash of bravery, Amity went forward and left the briefest of pecks on Luz's cheek before darting off, leaving a tomato-faced Luz standing there frozen in shock. "See you on Monday!", Amity yelled out, waving at Luz.

Luz snapped out of her stunned state and waved and yelled back. "See you on Monday!"

Luz ran back to Eda's broom and sat behind her. Eda flew them off back to the house. She turned to her apprentice, smirking. "So I take it Grom went well?"

Luz sighed dreamily. "It was perfect."

So the song they listened to was the song from the title of this fic, "The Time of My Life".
