The sun was beginning to set, but that didn't make it any less warm outside. There was a breeze that started to roll in, cooling the gems down a bit while they sat outside.

Peridot shivered slightly at the sudden breeze, causing Lapis to hesitantly wrap her arm around her. Peri looked up at her, to see Lapis was looking away avoiding any eye contact at all. This didn't surprise the green one, this was usual Lapis behavior which is what made her face begin to get heated.

Subconsciously, Lapis pulled Peridot in even closer. The other gems were just paying attention to the sunset, but Peridot's eyes were glued on Lapis's blue face. A smile grew on her face as she watched the blue gem crane her neck to look at her.

"What are you looking at?" Lapis scoffed with a light chuckle to show that she wasn't upset. Peridot's smile just grew wider, as she answered in a smart-alec way, "I'm looking at you, of course, you clod."

Lapis gasped in an exaggerated manner, "Me? A clod? Says you!" She stuck her tongue out and pointed at Peridot jokingly. Peridot made her face look angry, though, in reality, she was not. "I'm not the clod here!" she pouted and curled up closer to Lapis, looking away.

Peridot's fixation was on the sunset now, it looked so beautiful. The crisp colors, the context of the moment, it made her mind begin to run. She shook her head subtly and shut her eyes to try and stop the abnormal feelings. This was until Lapis placed her head on top of Peri's.

Her stomach was fluttering, she felt uneasy and couldn't tell if it was in a good or bad way. Her feelings for Lapis were obvious, yet she didn't know if it was okay to act upon them. But whenever she's around Lapis, all of those thoughts don't matter. She opened her eyes and moved her hand over to firmly grasp Lapis's.

In her normal monotone like voice, Lapis said: "Do you feel it too?" Her eyebrows raised slightly, and Peridot looked up at the moment of silence, Lapis returned the loving stare. Peridot tilted her head, wanting Lapis to elaborate on what she meant. Lapis stifled a chuckle and responded to Peridot's actions very seriously.

"Do you get that anxious feeling around me?" They both looked away at the sunset before Lapis continued, "It's hard to identify the feeling, but I'm sure it's an affection of some sort. Steven has taught me a lot about emotions, and I guess what I'm asking is..do you like me the way I like you?" Lapis tilted her head downward, nervous as to what Peridot would say next.

Peridot just stared at Lapis for a minute. Astonished by the words Lapis had just spoken to her. It's almost like she could read Peridot's mind. All the green gem could do at first was grasp Lapis's hand tighter and smile. Finally, she responded positively, "Of course I do Lapis, you're very close to me. I thought it was always known I felt this way." Lapis's mouth was agape for a second before she smiled at Peridot.

Lapis's head laid upon Peridot's once more. For a few moments, they silently looked at the sunset, happy to be in each other's presence. Neither of them really knew what to say next. Peridot laid down, her head on Lapis's lap.

Another breeze hit, causing Peridot to curl up almost instantly. Lapis threw a medium-sized piece of cloth that was laying outside, over top of the green gem. It warmed her up and brought a smile to her face.

Peridot felt her head being pet by Lapis, it was something that Lapis did quite often. She would always pretend to be annoyed by the fact, but, getting her head pet from Lapis was the best physical feeling in the world.

"Peri, this is going to take some time. I hope you're willing to put in the effort because I can be a handful," Lapis started to speak, not moving her gaze from the sunset as Peridot looked up at her. "You know my past, and, I just want you to promise you won't ever hurt me." Peridot moved her vision from Lapis to the other gems in front of them, closer to the sunset. They were all laughing and playing, having a great time.

That's exactly what she wanted for her and Lapis, and she knew she never wanted to leave her side. "I promise you Lapis, I would have no reason to ever want to hurt you," Peridot spoke delicately to the blue gem. Lapis could feel the tears begin to well in her eyes, but she stopped them from pouring out. All she could do was blurt out a quiet, "Thank you," and continue to pet Peridot.

They look over by the gems and see that Steven is playing his ukulele. They gave each other a knowing look, that said 'i'll beat you there.' Peridot sprung up first but fell onto her face as Lapis continued to run ahead. Peridot made an 'angry' seeming but knowingly joking yell, causing Lapis to laugh. The green gem chuckled and got up, chasing after Lapis who was now sitting down in front of Steven.

Peridot approaches the group and sits down close to Lapis. They were practically cuddling as they sat, taking in the sights and sounds before them. Steven's wonderful musical ability, their loving embraces. The moment was perfect, the whole day was perfect. At least to them, and that's all that really mattered.
