Diana Potter took a deep breath of cool air, a soft breeze hitting her face. It was a cooler day, despite it being the beginning of July. She was looking out the tallest window in her school, trying to see something other than the last of the American wizarding world.

"Diana, come on, we're going to be late!" her best friend, Josie Weasley, called.

Diana turned away from the window with an annoyed sigh. "Don't you two ever wonder what's beyond the walls?"

Josie and their other friend, Halley Malfoy, looked at Diana in shock. "I know what's beyond the walls, Dy, evil people. That'll kill you the second they get a chance. Come on, we're going to be late for Potions," Halley said, grabbing Diana's hand and dragging her down the hall.

As the three girls walked through the crowded halls of Ilvermorny, they heard screaming and yelling. Diana's eyes widened as she saw Headmaster Wallace running toward them, most of the professors following closely behind.

Diana, Josie, and Halley all leaned up against the wall to let the adults through. Once they got by, Diana grabbed an older student by his arm, stopping him from going any further. "What's going on?"

"There's been a breach in the wall. I think it's the Capitol." The boy got himself out of Diana's grip, disappearing into the flow of students.

"What should we do?" Josie asked, fear in her eyes.

"Follow me," Diana said, running against the flow. Within a few feet, Diana stopped and pressed a stone with her wand, muttering the spell. The secret passage opened the tiniest bit, just enough for the girls to get inside.

"How did you know this was here," Halley questioned, lighting her wand with a flick of her hand. Diana and Josie followed their friend's action.

Diana smirked. "I was bored one night." It was the only explanation she was willing to give.

Josie and Halley were used to her vague explanations, so they didn't push.

The girls ran down the many flights of damp stairs for a good five minutes before landing at a dead end. Once again, Diana placed her wand against the stone, whispered the words, and watched the wall open.

They made it into the courtyard, the Snakewood tree only a few feet in front of them. Crouching down and looking down at the little wizarding community, they watched as witches and wizards rushed back and forth. The alarm from the MACUSA Headquarters was blaring loudly.

The wizarding community was small. Ilvermorny was placed upon the highest peak on Mount Greylock, then below the school were the homes, the stores, the government buildings - everything the wizarding community needed to keep going.

Then, once a year, wizards from Britain or another country would visit and bring supplies. They would also offer to help them leave, but American wizards are stubborn.

Surrounding their little haven was the wall. They guarded it day and night, never left unattended or unprotected. Diana's smart eyes looked toward the part of the wall everyone seemed to disperse from.

About thirty people dressed in creepy white suits were coming through the wall, shooting witches and wizards with guns. Diana saw Headmaster Wallace arrive down there. His loud voice echoed through the air, a powerful spell being shot out of his wand.

Every couple months the Capitol would get suspicious of the one area in Panem - or America, as the wizards still called it - where they could get no signal, and no super accurate radar image. So, they'd send a team of Peacekeepers out to investigate. They would sometimes find the wizards, but most of the time the Aurors would confuse them and send them on their way.

Diana had always wanted to see behind the wall. She knew it was a place called District 12 - Professor Smith was always so good at explaining everything about Panem in Muggle Studies. Especially the Hunger Games.

That topic was one of Diana's favourites. She would always wonder what would possess a government to do that to children.

The girls watched the Aurors, government officials, and Headmaster Wallace diffuse the situation, take the Peacekeepers into custody, clean up the wall, and the dead bodies. Diana realised watching people clean up blood on the cobblestone or carry lifeless bodies away with their wands was something no one should ever be used to, but to her, it was just a way of life.

Peacekeepers had murdered her mother and father when she was ten and her brother was thirteen. And when she was only fifteen, her brother died from Peacekeepers exploding the wall. She hated that it felt normal to her, but what could she do? Fall into a depressive state again after a year of doing good? No. It was sad, and she felt terrible for the families, but she couldn't dwell on things too much.

"Come on, let's go back inside. I hate this," Josie said, tears filling the girl's brown eyes.

Halley nodded. "Yeah, are you coming, Dy?"

Diana shook her head, her ponytail hitting some of her cheek. "I'll meet you inside in a second. I just want some fresh air."

Once Josie and Halley went back through the passage, Diana took off running down the mountain. She did not understand what she was doing, but something was telling her to keep going.

Once she made it down, she walked through the town nonchalantly. Thankfully, mostly everyone was inside so they couldn't see her walk to the wall. All the Aurors were at the broken part of the wall, making it so she was all alone.

In her free time, Diana loved climbing and scaling enormous buildings - mostly Ilvermorny. She was also a Chaser in the Horned Serpent Quidditch Team.

Taking a deep breath, Diana jumped up, latching herself onto the wall. She climbed up within minutes. And within minutes she was on the other side of the wall. She had no idea what she had done, did not understand the can of worms she had just opened, but she loved the feeling that came with adventure.

A/N: Hey, this is a story I'm really excited about writing! I hope you all enjoy this first chapter!
