A\N:This is the first fic I've written for Grey's!
I've had this idea in my head for weeks! And I finally got down to business this evening and started writing and all in all this took me maybe 3 hours to write. I have not written anything that I have even been close to finishing in years, so this whole thing makes me proud! hahaaa.
There's a chance that this will become a place for a couple more one-shots to do with airports and certain people. I also have an alternate version of this story that I might write if I get any interest. Let me know, so onwards with the story.

Meredith walked up and down the waiting area of the airport, in hopes the motion would put her daughter to sleep. The little girl had refused her nap earlier in the afternoon; too wound up on the fact that her daddy was coming home today.

Meredith hadn't protested too much, figuring that the little girl would fall asleep on the car ride to the airport. However that had not been the case, and now Meredith was dealing with an overtired toddler - who was thankfully not screaming but quietly whimpering as her mother held her close. Walking over to the window, still carrying the little girl she stood and stared at all the planes flying in and out of the terminal.

"Hey Em, you wanna look at all the planes? We can watch for Daddy's plane. It should be here soon and then we can all go home." Lifting her head from her mom's shoulder Emily starred out the window at all the planes before turning to her mom. "Daddy?"

Kissing Emily's head, Meredith replied "Daddy will be here soon sweetie"

A few meters away a familiar face was watching with interest. Deciding to approach the mother and daughter, the familiar person made their way over stopping just short of Meredith.

"Meredith Grey?" The person asked.

Turning to face the person addressing her, Meredith's eyes went wide as she took in the sight before her. "Finn Dandrige?"

"One in the same, how've you been? It's been what 3 - 4 Years?" Finn took in the sight of Meredith Grey standing before him, with a child attached to her hip no less. Apparently a lot had changed in the years since he had seen her last.

Clearing her throat and adjusting her daughter a little bit Meredith found her voice "I've uhh - I've been good. Busy with work as usual, but that's the life of a surgeon. H-how are you? How's the vet life?"

"Yeah I've been good, vet life is still the same I guess - who's this?" He said gesturing to the child she was holding, who appeared to be looking at him with interest - wondering who this man, talking to her mommy was.

Realising she hadn't mentioned Emily she started - "Oh, this is my daughter Emily. Em can you say hi to Mr Finn here? He and mommy used to be uhh friends a long time ago"

Smiling at Finn, Emily introduced herself "Hi! My name is Emily Amelia Grey-Sheppard. I'm almost two years old" she said, holding up two fingers - before letting out a big yawn.

Chuckling a little at Emily's yawn Meredith shook her head slightly "Oh you are so tired baby girl" the little girl shook her head but laid her head back down on her mom's shoulder, burying her face in Merediths neck.

So she and Derek were still together and they had a child on top of that he thought. And judging by the two rings on her left hand they were married also.
But he couldn't get over the sight standing in front of him - Meredith Grey was a mommy to a little girl who looked just like her. A woman he had always figured wouldn't want kids was a mom and apparently loving it judging by her behaviour with the toddler.

"So you and Derek are obviously still together, not going to lie - I honestly didn't think you two would last. But I'm glad you're happy, how long have you two been married?"

"We have been married a little over 2 years, we hit some bumps on our way but we couldn't be happier right now" Meredith trailed off smiling at the thought of her husband.

Nodding his head in understanding he voiced his next thoughts. "So what are you doing here in the airport? You guys going somewhere or what?"

Shaking her head at Finn's question she answered "Oh no, no we aren't going anywhere. We're actually just waiting for Derek, he's been out of town for a few days for some work stuff and I was able to get the day off from work; so I figured we would come pick him up as a surprise"

"Oh, that's nice - also uhh, I think she's asleep" Finn said gesturing towards Emily, who had indeed finally fallen asleep.

Laughing silently to herself Meredith shifted Emily in her arms slightly to check if she was sleeping "Of course she falls asleep now, Derek's plane is going to be here any minute and then I'll have to wake her to get her into the car and then she probably won't go back to sleep which will be fun for me and Derek"
Kissing Emily on the head a little bit she whispered to her daughter "What am I gonna do with you?"
Turning her attention back to man in front of her she said
"Judging by the boarding pass and passport in your hand I'm assuming you're off somewhere?"

"Yeah, just a little vacation. Going to see some old college buddies, ya know" Finn replied.

An announcement came over the PA system at that moment and Meredith brought her free hand to Emily's back, patting it soothingly in the hope that she wouldn't wake up from the additional noise. After all a little sleep was better than none at this point.

"Well it was nice to see you again, but that's my flight they just called so I better go. I'm really glad to see you happy with your life Meredith"

And with that he turned around and picked up his things to make his way to the right terminal.

"Was that Finn? The Vet?" A voice from behind Meredith came.

Turning to face said voice Meredith broke out into a big smile as she came face to face with her husband.

"It was actually, I was shocked to see him after all this time - it was definitely awkward considering I was holding our child the entire time"
The couple met halfway for a kiss and one armed hug as best they could with a sleeping toddler between them.

Derek knelt down - pushing back Mer's jacket to reveal her slight baby bump - and give a small kiss before standing again.

The whole scene had been witnessed by Finn who had turned back to look at Meredith one last time, just in time to see her smile the widest he had ever seen it when she was reunited with Derek after just a few days apart. Eye's widening when he saw Derek kiss her stomach - the couple were apparently expecting their second child, something he hadn't noticed when conversing with her before.
After his conversation with Meredith albeit a relatively short one, the way she smiled when she spoke about Derek and her daughter coupled with the scene he just saw; it was confirmed just how wrong he had been about the pair. And with that he turned back around and continued on his way.

Standing upright again Derek looked at his sleeping little girl in her mother's arms, running a hand over her back he addressed his wife again "Not that I'm complaining or anything but how come you two are here? You told me last night that you had to work - I was just going to get a cab to the hospital and find you"

Motioning for them to start their journey to the car, Derek grabbed his luggage and followed Meredith.

"I know I said I was working, but I managed to swap it for another day. We missed you, so I thought you'd enjoy the surprise for a change - since you're always the one who is full of surprises for us" Meredith laughed.

The sudden motion of walking woke up the sleeping toddler who had apparently not been sleeping as deeply as thought.

"Mama?" Emily groggily lifted her head off Mer's shoulder and looked around noticing that they were walking again.

"Hi sweetie, look who's back! It's daddy!" Meredith gently told her daughter.

Turning her head Emily caught sight of her dad standing next to her mother who had stopped walking.
"DADDY!" Emily threw herself out of Meredith's arms right into Derek who was ready to catch her.

Chuckling at his daughter's insistence he brought her into a warm embrace and kissed her cheek a couple times before shifting her to his hip and grabbing his suitcase again he and Meredith started walking back to the car again as he spoke to his little girl -

"Hey sweetheart, I'm so happy to see you and mama! I missed you guys so much. Did you have fun with just mama?"

"I missed you too daddy! And I had so much fun with mama, we got pizza!" Emily spouted off excitedly.

Shaking his head laughing he looked over at Meredith before speaking - "Pizza, Mer? Why am I not surprised?"

Slapping his back lightly Meredith laughed before replying "What!? Your girls like pizza. What more is there to say?"

Laughing some more Derek leaned over and pressed a quick kiss to his wife's cheek. "Let's go home, shall we?"

Smiling at her husband and daughter she replied to his question.
"Yes, definitely. Let's go home"

I've always imagined what it would be like for Meredith to run into Finn again especially with her kid/s. I've always enjoyed reading those types of stories - for any fandom I'm in where someone runs into the ex-whatever years later. This is the second story I've written on that subject the first being a Bones story.
