Part 1: Christian's PoV (1,8K)
Room 1408. 10 pm. Don't be late. ~ Ana
It had been two years since ana and Christian started this relationship of friends with benefits. Though it mostly started as just a one night stand at Elliot's wedding with Kate.
As per usual when it came to a family function, Christian came on his own, though this time the spotlight had been partially on him since he was his brother's best man. He gave his brother a bachelor party to remember for, and a speech that was worth being put to script for the best chick flicks. In all honesty, he was happy for his brother. Kate (though annoying at times) seemed to be the perfect pick for Elliott (who was also annoying at times).
He didn't notice Ana right away. Probably because she had stood rather recluse to the rest of the crowd. He knew of her only because Kate often mentioned her best friend, and yet, she wasn't amongst the bridesmaids. She just stood at the back of the church, and discreetly raised her glass when Kate made her speech on how happy very person who mattered to her was present on that day.
Christian wasn't really sure what made him go after Ana. Probably because she was a brunette and he always had a thing for brunettes. Or maybe it was the sinful red dress that she was wearing. Or perhaps the fact that she was the only woman who didn't try to jump his bones. But later, he would blame it on the alcohol. Everyone knew that people drank too much at weddings, and the alcohol clearly didn't help him that day.
Or maybe Ana was just intoxicating. She had this aura of mystery, and to this day, Christian still didn't manage to pierce it.
When he came to her and made his intentions clear, she only had one rule, it was supposed to be a one night stand. She claimed she didn't have the will or the possibility to involve herself in a relationship, and he agreed with her. Being the CEO of a billion-dollar company didn't give much time to date.
He had been engaged in the past, to Elena Lincoln, a woman much older than him who had a thing for younger men. She accepted his way of life, never complaining when he would come home late, or go on impromptu business trips. But he learned later on that it was because her taste in younger men never stopped with him. She cheated on him every time he was not home.
For a long time, he blamed himself, feeling that, had he been home more often, she wouldn't have cheated. But in the end, with a lot of therapy and moral support from Elliott, he realised that he wasn't that bad. Sure he worked a lot, but he always came home, he always let her know when he was pulled into a late meeting, he always did his best to keep her happy, and t satisfy her when they were together.
He had just come to peace with this disastrous relationship a few months before meeting Ana, and that was probably why he was more than happy to just sleep with her. He wasn't ready for another relationship.
So they just had sex. Wild sex. Ana was flexible. Very flexible. And toned, he was sure she had more muscles than him, and he worked out five times a week. And she definitely had more stamina than him. In other words, Ana was the perfect sex partner. She gave as much as she took, and that was probably why when the morning came, he proposed to see her again.
"We agreed, Grey. One night," She reminded him, dressing bad into her red dress in the speed of light.
"I'm not asking for a date. I'm proposing … I just enjoyed the sex and I'm pretty sure the two of us would enjoy another go at it."
She let out a sigh, ready to do her walk of shame and she leaned to patronisingly peck his lips since he was still laying in the hotel bed. "It was fun. But as I said, I don't do relationship."
He grabbed her hand, and her jaw locked as her eyes settled on his hand. So he let go, feeling he crossed a line, but he still pleaded his case, "Once again, I'm not asking for a relationship. I'm asking for more fun."
Christian never really knew what changed her mind, but she agreed. And now, it had been two years since they started this affair. Though it wasn't as easy as he would have thought. Ana worked as much as he did, and she travelled much more than he did. So it was hard to get their schedule in sync.
She was a journalist, though Christian never saw her work on a paper. But to be fair, he didn't give her much time to think of anything but him when they would meet. It would always be in a hotel room. More than once over the past year, Christian had tried to get Ana to come to his place. But she always refused. It was one of their rules.
The other was that she would never sleepover. The only time he had the chance to sleep with her was the night of the wedding. They also decided that they should not see anyone else, to avoid confusion, though the two of them were too busy in general to even think of entertaining another lover. And finally, Ana insisted heavily on it, they couldn't tell anyone.
None of those rules mattered to Christian at first. She would always let him know when she was in Seattle, and he or she would text the other a hotel room location so they could meet. often, he took his anger out on her when something wasn't going on as he wanted at work, and she never minded. She knew that no matter what, he wouldn't hurt her, and he would leave her satisfied.
But often, he would see bruises on her body, and she would always dismiss them as a result of her clumsiness. Once, he got angry at her, because one of those bruises was obviously a handprint on her neck, and she dismissed it again, assuring him that it wasn't what he thought and that she was faithful.
Truth be told, Christian did resent that she would never talk about herself. She talked about her job, being a political journalist, and she often kept him up to date with what was going on in the world. But that was it. He didn't know about her family, her past, her dreams and aspiration. All he knew was that her last name was Steele, and that was only because Kate told him.
In fact, Kate warned him to not get attached to Ana, because she would never be able to give him what he wanted. But of course, Christian's heart didn't listen, and he fell in love with the brunette with the beautiful blue eyes.
Which was why he was anticipating seeing her this night. Though she never talked about herself, Christian had learned to decipher her moods. And usually when she would send him such curt and to the point texts, it was because she needed comfort. She would never say it, but he had noticed that the way she touched him, and subtly asked to be touched changed after those curt texts.
And the fact was, he didn't want to have sex with her that night. He wanted to lay his cards on the table, and break all of her rules so they could start dating. But on the other hand, he knew she needed comfort, and he knew sex was the only way she would accept it.
As soon as he knocked on the door, she jumped in his arms and kissed him as if her life depended on it. He kissed her back and took her to the bed, to give her what she wanted, what she needed at this right moment.
Their moment didn't last for long, but when it was over, they were both out of breath. Christian rolled on the side, dispositioning of the condom by the same occasion, and then he leaned on his elbow and told Ana,
"I wanted to see you. Your text came at the perfect time."
She smiled, clearly grateful to what he had just done to her, and so he started, "I want to revisit the terms of our get-togethers."
"Christian …" She said with a warning tone.
"Ana it's been two years. You can't expect people to not develop feelings for someone they've been seeing for two years."
Her face suddenly closed and she sat up, looking for her clothes. He sat up as well, noticing with displeasure the discoloured bruise in her back. "Ana … I'm not saying move in with me, I'm —"
"And I told you from the start, I don't do relationships. I'm sorry feelings got involved. But —"
"But what?! Is it so bad to try again? I don't know what happened to you to make you so scared of relationship, but you must know I would never hurt you."
She looked at him with compassion before kissing him, and he couldn't help but compare this kiss with the patronising one of the wedding. She let out a sigh, and told him, "I'm so sorry, Christian. You deserve so much better than me. I never should have let you talk me into this. This was stupid of me. You should move on and forget about me."
And without giving him a chance to argue, she left the room in the blink of an eye. He didn't even get the chance to tell her that he loved her, that she was already gone.
