Prologue

At age 38 life was perfect; I had a loving and caring wife, a son who admired to grow up to be just like his dad, and everything I have ever wanted- not that my wife or son was what made it all perfect.

I simply married my wife so that I could get in good graces with her father (My boss) and get promoted to the Branch Manager of the bank I worked at. It was my dream job ever since I graduated from high school and then University.

So, I put up a fake façade as a charismatic lover, and then doting father when my son was born without blinking a lash, I would do anything for that promotion.

My perfect world that I had molded and sculpted over the years all came to a sudden halt when my wife, son, and I got in a car accident on the highway. It was late, nearing 11pm- we were on our way home from my in-law's when we were blindsided by a drunk driver.

It was painful; not my wife's desperate cries for help, or my ten year old son's heavy breathing as he choked on his own blood and struggled to dislodge himself from the seat he was fastened in.

What was painful, was how my gaze met the drunk's- our stare down felt like an eternity. I analyzed every feature of his, he had puffed out drunkenly red cheeks and heavy bags under his remorseful bloodshot eyes. I silently begged him to save me, to get me out of this burning and totaled car.

My pleading apparently wasn't enough because as soon as he averted his gaze from my own he took off, pushing his foot down harder on the gas pedal.

That was the last thing I saw before I appeared here in this dark empty void.

"This is neither a blessing nor a curse, but I have a proposition that you simply cannot refuse. You will begin your life anew in another world much different from the one you just passed on from. Contrary to your last world you can express your self however you wish." A black silhouette appeared before me, darker than the black nothingness that surrounded me.

"What's the catch?"

"Hehehe, that's the first thing you ask? Not did my wife and son die? You are indeed an interesting human that I will enjoy watching in the coming years…" The dark being that I could only assume was a God, demon, or something in between, laughed mockingly at me with a long dark finger pointed at me.

"…" I stared at its menacing talon-like fingernail.

"Your no fun Kagami-kun, regardless I will tell you their fates… Maybe if you grovel before me and beg I can allow you to visit them…"

I rolled my eyes; well if I had eyes, waiting for the being to continue.

"Your wife. Who was pregnant might I add," The God, demon thing paused and glanced at me for a reaction, only to pout at the indifference oozing from me. "She is relatively unharmed; a woman truly blessed by the others… Your son though was not quite as lucky as his mother. I mean he did get you as a father after all."

I raised a brow, not out of worry but slight curiosity. The being said "Others…"

"He suffered severe head trauma from the crash and slight burns to half of his body. He is currently fighting for his life right as we speak. If he does somehow survive, he will walk away with a plethora of nasty disabilities." Its voice was giddy, as though it took great pleasure out of talking about my son's cruel fate.

That sucked- for my son that is.

"If you visit him he should feel that fatherly presence you fake so well… He might just get better and recover sooner. But knowing you I take it you don't particularly care though, do you?"

"No… No, I don't care, but I'd like to know about what the catch for this new life is." I replied still staring at the strange beings now curled in amusement finger.

There was a long tense silence before the Demon (I decided it couldn't be a God or an angel with how threatening it was) leaned it's head down to my eye level.

Two blood-red eyes appeared before me from out of the darkness that cloaked the Demon. They were soulless holding less good-will than even mine.

"I'll tell you in do time Kagami-kun… I'll show myself to you when I need you to hold up your part of the bargain."

I glared into its menacing glowing eyes.

"Is it a deal Kagami-kun? Will you do this one favor for me in exchange for another try at life?" It reached its arm out to me for a handshake.

From the western-hemisphere to the eastern-hemisphere- There are many small things that connect different religions and cultures. Making a deal with the devil being one of them…

But I didn't care.

I just wanted to live again rather than rot in Hell like the piece of scum I am.

"It's a deal," I stated as I brought forward my surprisingly enough, cloudy mist like arm and shook the demon's hand. It was rough and leathery almost like an animal's hide.

"…Perfect."

As soon as the demon spoke, the world exploded in a thick endless shower of white. After my eyes adjusted to the blinding light I found myself alone, no longer in the presence of the evil entity I had just stroke a deal with.

The white was endless; it stretched as far as I could see.

I wanted to believe that this was a part of Heaven or maybe even my soul but knew that I wouldn't be allowed anywhere near the holy land itself or that my soul would be this pure.

"…Where am I?" I questioned myself while looking around the white plane that I was residing in. It was beautiful; the type of beauty that a human could never create nor imitate.

And it shattered apart not a second after I was finished admiring its unnatural beauty.

Everything was dark again. Everything was empty…

-Yu no Kuni-

(Land of Hot Water)

The first thing that I saw when I opened my eyes was a burning forest, with flames spewing out from behind the thick woods. The second thing I noticed was the huge moon hanging like a chandelier above me far away in the starlit sky.

"Wow, I'm actually in another world… I don't remember the moon being this big." I whispered in awe of the massive space rock.

I snapped my head towards the woods in alarm when I heard a twig snap. When nothing happened after a solid minute of watching and waiting, I turned away having summed it up as a deer or other forest animal.

"Die Konoha scum!"

"Wha? Get the hell off me!"

I was tackled by a short man wearing rural clothing befitting that of a farmer. More importantly, though was the knife- no Kunai he had gripped and poised over my throat.

"Just calm down you stupid bastard! Let's talk about this!" I hollered and pushed in resistance against his descending hand.

I widened my eyes seeing another kunai glinting under the moonlight soaring for my attacker's head.

The wet sound of his head exploding in a shower of blood, skull, and brains was something that I would never forget. The same could be said for how the man's feral eyes squinted in pain and then rolled in the back of his head before exploding.

I wondered why the now dead idiot didn't just dodge the kunai. It was moving at a painfully slow pace after all.

"Kagami-taicho. I expect this kind of foolishness from Hotaro and that blonde idiot Inojinchi, not you."

I pushed the dead farmer off of me and turned around to glance up at the voice speaking to me. She was beautiful.

The type of beauty that would make a married man like myself look away from their wife to her. Her lips were full and light pink, her skin was flawless, but her eyes-

Her eyes highlighted her beauty even more.

They were scarlet, almost as bloody as that demon's but not quite as red. And swirling slowly, almost hypnotically around both of her pupils were three black tomoes.

Based on how her cheeks flushed as red as her eyes, and how her gaze drifted to the ground beside me, she was uncomfortable under my stare, but I didn't care. I was too engrossed in her beauty.

"…Taicho…" She squirmed for a moment before she shook her head and squatted down in front of me. "Kagami-taicho, we need to regroup with the others before enemy shinobi show up."

"Shinobi?" I asked myself more than her. (that explained the kunai's…)

"T-Taicho? Yes it is the third shinobi war after all. We need to hurry before Hot Water shinobi show up!" She yelled and snatched my arm into her own and after pulling me to my feet she dragged me away from the burning forest behind us.

I said and did nothing, instead choosing to stare at the woman and wonder when that Demon would show itself to me.
