The island night sky was filled with colorful sounds. The younger villagers were chasing each other with fireworks or sitting down and chatting with their friends. It was the fourth of July and everyone was celebrating Firework Day. Except for a certain cranky eagle.
Apollo never liked this holiday. The noise was always so loud and he could never get any sleep. What's the whole point of dedicating an entire day for fireworks anyway? He always couldn't keep up with the energy of all the younger villagers either, especially the Island Representative.
Of course this wasn't the only reason Apollo didn't like Firework Day. Firework Day also happened to be his birthday and it seemed every year people were too busy celebrating Firework Day to celebrate his birthday. He would always celebrate by himself and frankly he liked it that way. It was already chaotic with Firework Day, imagine how it would be with his birthday, although Apollo did wish people did something for him.
Apollo was so busy in his thoughts that he didn't notice a certain female eagle sitting next to him.
"Celia?" Apollo asked. "What are you doing here? I thought you were helping Lexie with Firework Day"
"I'm just taking a break, feathers," Celia said. "It's very exhausting with all those fireworks" She turns to Apollo.
"Why aren't you with everyone else, feathers?" Celia asked.
"Eh, this holiday isn't really for me" Apollo said. "All these fireworks and villagers running around. Looks exhausting. Especially for an old coot like me"
"We're in the same caliber," Celia said.
"Really?" Apollo said. "Miss Celia Eagle, the Unofficial Mom friend of Soleanna, tired. Sounds kinda unrealistic. Gahaha!" He laughs. Celia laughs too.
"Isn't today your birthday?" Celia asked. Apollo froze.
"Who's asking?" Apollo asked. Celia giggled.
"Me, feathers." Celia said. She stands up and pulls something outta her pocket. It's a wrapped present.
"Happy Birthday" Celia said. Apollo rubbed the back of his head.
"Aw jeez Celia. You didn't have to get me a gift" Apollo said. He stands up and takes the present. He opens it and inside is a biker jacket and letter sealed with a heart sticker.
"Well I'll be, it's a biker jacket," Apollo said. He puts on the jacket. A perfect fit.
"I wonder what's the letter for?" Apollo said. He opens the envelope and inside is a letter:
Happy Birthday Apollo. I know you're not the guy who likes presents, or birthday parties. But I wanted to get you a gift because to be honest, you're one the sweetest guy I've met. You've also been a big help around the island, making us laugh and encouraging our dreams. Lexie and a few other villagers even look up to you as a father figure. We're so happy to have you here on this island. -Celia
Apollo looks up and sees Celia covering her red face with her wings. He laughs.
"Oh Celia," Apollo said. "I always knew you were smitten with me"
"Really, feathers?" Celia said.
"Yeah. Who wouldn't be? I look pretty good for my age" Apollo said. He laughed again. "Also Lexie told me"
"She did?!" Celia said.
"Nah I'm just joking with ya" Apollo said. "And to be honest, I'm quite smitten with you too" He noticed that the red in her face was now seeping through her feathers.
"Oh Apollo, you're just kidding right?" Celia said.
"No, I'm serious," Apollo said. "You're a very kind and beautiful woman Celia. You have what my ex Whitney has, only it's in your own little way. Seeing you be so kind to all the villagers and helping them out, it's hard not to fall for you"
Apollo took Celia's wings and parted them from her face. She was blushing a lot. Like, she was beet red.
"There she is," Apollo said. He leans in and kisses her cheek, Celia blushing. She nearly falls over but Apollo catches her in his arms. Then he leans in for another kiss but this time on the beak. Then the two of them kissed as the fireworks went off. This was the best gift Apollo could have ever wanted: someone who really cared for him.
