-Genesis-

Cadmus

"In the beginning, there was nothing. Formless and empty, the darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the spirit of life hovered in the void. Then there was light," reciting the opening biblical quote of Genesis, Lex Luthor pondered on the self-reflection staring back at him. "And the light was good, separating itself from the darkness." Peering past his reflection, the embodiment of the Light rested peacefully in his tomb. "Step into that light, guardian of Earth."

The metallic, soft hiss of the pod signaled the opening of its hinges, awakening the sleeping guardian from his slumber. Human in appearance, he was all but mortal. A creation of all living things embodied into one vessel, a masterpiece of life.

A guardian to save the people of Earth from threats both foreign and domestic.

"Talos," said Luthor, greeting his creation with bemused approval. "Talos is the sun. A gift from the gods to protect mankind from invaders. A gift that shall not be wasted." Luthor stepped towards his creation, observing with keen interest the sunkissed tan skin of the young man, the snow white color of his eyes, and sun gold colored hair; a perfect specimen. And he was beautiful. "Your days shall forever be in the Light once you leave this dark place, my scion. You will be worshiped as a god and deservedly so."

Snow eyes studied the older man, his brow furrowed in thought. Tall and well-built, his eyes told him, bald yet his posture held of a strong, noble standing. His words were enticing, his tone believable and convincing…

Taking a step out of the pod, unaware or uncaring of his nude physique Talos stared at the man. A calculating stare, one that was to determine if this man held truth. "The Light that no one can see," Talos said, curious of the man's response.

"A light too bright is blinding for anyone who is not enlightened," Luthor answered assuringly. "Come, we must see if you are ready to project that luminous enlightenment to the world."

The guardian stood still, looking elsewhere. "I'm not the only one." Talos walked away from his pod, towards the wall. He sensed something on the other side, the walls were thick, not thick enough to escape his curiosity. The wall began to disassemble on the atomic level, creating an open pathway. Pulling his hand away, Talos looked at his hand in mild surprise then a smirk curled on his lips. Looking back to Luthor, the guardian continued on his journey to the other stasis pod in the middle of the other room.

Another humanoid… very much human. Like him. The boy in this pod looked to be of the same age, with black hair. He couldn't see the eyes. The letters Kr projected itself boldly on the glass and an 'S' symbol on the white skintight outfit.

Snow eyes blinked innocently, placing his hand on the glass. "Brother," he said quietly. "What is he?"

"Like you said, your brother," Luthor mused aloud, partially hidden in the shadows. "A genomorph composed of Kryptonian DNA."

"Superman," Talos stated, a flash of the 'S' symbol came before him. Like lightning. "Am I a genomorph?"

"No, you're much more than that," Luthor sternly replied. "More than man or alien. A god made into flesh, like your counterpart in Crete myth."

"Zeus Tallaios," said Talos. "Solar Zeus…" He looked to his hands, recalling his power from earlier. "I've seen dreams of this world without memories." Looking to his brother, his eyes sobered in pondering. "The dark blue sky, the dark emerald grass, the crystal waters of the sea… and someone there. Not quite hidden by shadows, but I can't see it…" Taking a soothing breath, probably his first breath since his awakening, the guardian felt something. "Why am I here? Who created me? Are you my father? My mother? Parent?"

"You could say both, but you can't really say either," Luthor stated. Talos looked towards the man expectantly, demanding an answer from his stern gaze. "You were created."

"Who did?" Talos asked again. "If I have no mother or father, then was it God? Did God create me?"

"Only God and humans can create other beings like this," Luthor explained, stepping further away from the shadows steadily.

"Humans created me?" inquired Talos. He looked towards the Kryptonian in stasis. "Created him?" Knowing that the man would've nodded, he glanced towards the human. "What defines humans from God? You said it as if there's a difference. Yet you gave me life, how can I be stronger than the being who created me?"

Luthor stopped next to Talos, his green eyes fixed squarely on the guardian. "Do you wish to know the answer to that question? Because I have none. You are the key to that very answer." His gaze challenged Talos, the guardian understood this. "My life is in your hands, as is this world. The entire galaxy is in your hands. Your will over the lives of countless billions and trillions. One thought is all that it would take."

His eyes widened partially at the man's bold offer. Willing to sacrifice himself to prove a point. A type of strength Talos understood at a primal level. A smirk grew on Talos' lips, his snow white eyes changing to a mesmerizing teal color, and the glass of the container holding his brother shattered violently, quickly dissolving into the particles of sand.

"One thought is all that takes," Talos repeated, facing the Kryptonian genomorph. His teal eyes could see the structure of the Kryptonian, every molecule and atom was visible before him. Even the broken strands of DNA, fragmented bits of Kryptonian and human. "He's your son," he observed.

"If you combine your powers with our human powers, the world will be ours," Luthor offered, taking a glance towards his son. Pride beamed through him, the very answer to his problems laid before him. "But if you let that power of yours run wild, you'll end up destroying the world. The evolutionary process will cease before it can end its process."

"And my questions will never be answered," Talos mused aloud, more to Luthor than himself. Seeing three tiny monstrous creatures sitting overhead of the Kryptonian, Talos shooed them away. Blue eyes shot open, awakening his senses to the world around him. "Welcome Brother."

Narrowing his eyes to the guardian, the Kryptonian eyed the man on his left. Afterimages of many places and knowledge came before him, so transparent that they didn't seem real. But they were. Pulling himself away from the pod, the Kryptonian brushed past Talos and Luthor and descended down the flight of stairs, his posture stiff and aggressive.

"Brother," Talos called out, following after the Kryptonian. Hearing the name again, the Kryptonian looked over his shoulder frowning at the stranger calling to him. Taking a moment to observe the nude teen male in front of him, he scoffed before continuing on his path. "Brother, wait!" Reaching out to grab his shoulder, Talos partially felt the smack of his brother's hit against his hand. The warning glare of the Kryptonian dared him to try again. "I'm not your enemy, we're here to help."

"I don't need help," growled the Kryptonian teen, turning away to find the exit.

"Oh but you do, son," Luthor called out. The new name caused the genomorph to halt in place, looking his shoulder daringly. Pulling a palm-sized box from his breast pocket, Luthor offered the box to the Kryptonian. "Your DNA is only part Kryptonian, the only half…" Luthor chuckled devilishly. "Your other half is smart enough to put the pieces together. Besides your mission is to replace Superman-"

"Should he turn from the Light," the Kryptonian finished obediently.

"You can't exactly finish your mission if you can't access your full power," offered Luthor. The box was stripped from his hand by the telekinetic pull of Talos, his teal eyes observing the inward contents of the box. "These shields will inhibit your human half for an hour."

The Kryptonian looked upon the box in the blonde's hand, and much like before, he scoffed. "I don't need help," he repeated. "You're lying."

"Fly," Luthor challenged, folding his arms. "You should be able to, since you're Kryptonian after all."

Fully facing the bald man, the genomorph accepted this challenge proudly. Feeling the strength in his legs, the Kryptonian leapt into the air. The boundless weight of this new freedom- he was falling? Back down?

Why wasn't he staying in the air?

Landing roughly back on the ground, the subtle grunt from the Kryptonian sounded his confusion and silently demanded an answer.

"Like I said, you're half Kryptonian," Luthor explained. Nodding his head towards the box, Luthor continued. "Take it. A gift from a father to his son." Walking to the control panel, the business man pulled a white outfit from the under containment. "I figured it would be less trouble if you wore this Talos." Tossing the white outfit to the guardian, Talos caught it and inspected it; it was the exact same design as the genomorph's except with no Superman symbol. "At least until we find more suitable clothing for the both of you."

Handing the Kryptonian the box, and dressing himself, Talos stretched his limbs accordingly. "What now?"

"We return to the darkness of the world and await until the Light shines again," Luthor said. He watched with keen interest at the Kryptonian's expression, the anger, confusion and uncertainty overtaking him was quite amusing. "This is a temporary setback my son, one that I will be able to fix in time."

Eyeing the bald man closely, the genomorph relented and accepted the gift begrudgingly.

"We have company," Talos stated, glancing towards the ceiling. "A lot of them. The Justice League."

"An excellent chance to prove your power against your enemies," Luthor offered, smirking devilishly. "You know where you can find me once you are finished with them."

-Genesis-

"Your suspicions haven't been wrong so far," Superman chuckled endearingly at the Dark Knight. "I have my own bad feeling about this place too."

"What exactly does the big bad bat have to worry about here?" Green Lantern quipped, lowering the Dark Knight himself, Black Canary, Green Arrow and Aquaman to the ground. "Besides the whole haunted, creepy laboratory thing here. It's a couple a months before Halloween so... unless you're expecting Frankenstein to come bashing out of these walls-"

"Shut up Gardner," Batman growled. "This is why nobody likes you."

Gardner rolled his eyes. "Right, sure you don't. I know how the League is, you're all about that tough love. I dig it."

"What do you suspect Cadmus is up to? You wouldn't lead us here on a wild goose chase," Superman continued, putting a pin on the Lantern for the meantime.

"My investigations have come up short in certain areas," admitted the Dark Knight. "But they all halt at a specific point." The Batman glided seamlessly across the ground, giving that gothic presence he was feared for. "I believe given the last few years of black arms tradings happening in Metropolis, the Appellaxian invasion and other events around the world for the last ten years, it's all tied to Cadmus."

"And it leads all back to Luthor," Superman finished the obvious statement. Sighing, the Man of Steel reflected on his past experiences and stared at the building. "Odds are that any evidence from Luthor is more than likely destroyed."

"Highly," Batman agreed. "But any evidence is better than none."

"I wouldn't worry about it Big Blue," Flash quipped, suddenly appearing next to the Kryptonian. "You haven't caught Luthor in the past so…" The dead-eyed gaze of the Man of Steel made the Flash reconsider his words. "… I didn't mean it like that. I, uh, just meant that, you know, you and Luthor have been at this for a while…" The Flash flattened his lips, trying to think of something that would save him. "It's like the Batman and Joker thing, one escapes and creates destruction and the other… puts him back in Arkham… I'll just stop."

"Which you won't," Batman curtly replied, his annoyance growing with every word out of the speedster's mouth. Flash sighed in defeat and slumped away to the heroes, trying to ignore the snickering from Gardener.

"Even I feel bad for ya," offered Gardner, still snickering beside himself. "Kind of."

"Shut up," hissed Flash.

"Play nice boys," Canary ordered, her arms folded against her chest. "You can sword fight later, we're on business. How do you want us to handle this Batman?"

The sound of high-pitched whirling caught the attention of the superpowered beings of the League, drawn in by its resonance. The following explosion thundered across the entire city-block, debris and fire raining everywhere and smashed upon the other nearby buildings. The blunt force of the shockwave knocked the non-powered heroes off their feet while the more alien and meta-powered beings slid back against their will.

A translucent blue sphere surrounded a long figure, floating higher in the sky. Like a beacon, the Leaguers followed the sphere and the figure inside it as it descended upon ground level. They saw the figure, a boy, a human, a teen, before them dressed in a white skintight outfit.

"For your crimes against the progression of humanity, I sentence you to the depths of your self-righteousness," Talos declared, his snow colored eyes glaring harshly at the Justice League. "You will die before my feet and suffer all that you have brought to this world and its people, you will feel the weaknesses that you have brought upon my people."

"You have been told lies, young one," a noticeably tall and olive skinned woman with straight waist-length black hair, blue eyes, and broad shoulders countered boldly. The woman in question was ageless and attractive in appearance, sporting a voluptuous frame with a sizable bust and well-toned yet muscular build. "We have saved humanity from countless threats around the world. It is you who threatens the innocent, look at what you have done already!"

Talos surveyed the destruction around him, then back to the League. "One building being destroyed doesn't equal the amount of destruction your League has brought to the billions of lives on this planet, Amazon. Of course your blind pride is something you inherited from your people."

The Amazon's face twitched in agitation. "I would mind your tongue boy, unless you wish to lose it."

"Such promises," Talos rolled his eyes playfully. "Still, it doesn't deter my point. You have weakened humanity by not allowing them to develop the weapons and technology of their own to solve their own problems. Which is why I am here."

"You're not any different from us," the Dark Knight said. "We are both protecting humanity, not slowing its progress as you claim."

"Wrong you are," countered Talos, stepping towards the League. "With every future threat that will arise in the future, and it will, humanity will look towards you to fight the wars for them. They won't learn to defend themselves and they will grow weak and finally be killed off."

"Doesn't answer my question," Batman continued.

"In simple words: I am was created by humanity, for humanity," Talos explained. "I am Talos, guardian of Earth. This is my domain and my people to protect, not yours. Pledge your allegiance to me and you will see the Light. If not, then your death will bring people to the light. Win, win for me." The snow white eyes of the guardian began to glow to bright teal. "Only the strongest shall control Earth."

A/N: Hope you enjoy this new story!

I started to notice that I'm doing a lot of Young Justice stories here… it's like my Star Wars stories but for DC lol.

But this is a purely Young Justice story, not a crossover or anything like my other stories. I was waiting for this moment for a while XD, but it finally happened!

If you're familiar with the Crete myth of Talos, then this should be fun for you lol. If you're a fan of Mewtwo, you'll love me even more. Because essentially Talos is a human version of Mewtwo… how much more badass can you get then that?!

… I didn't think so.

Added Note: Just bringing this one back to the grave too... Have fun!
