The water raced nearer and nearer towards the gang, who were sprinting out of the caves. Flying as fast as the blink of an eye, Professor Pericles carefully dodged the deadly arrows coming towards him. Judy's locket was a never ending swing, swinging to and fro underneath him. Rocks were hurled everywhere in the mess of booby traps and smoke.

Abruptly, an arrow flew through Pericles's legs.

Out of control, he lost his grip on the locket ; he watched it plummet into the water like a life that had just been lost.

Finally, the gang and Pericles made it out of the caves, panting exhaustedly.

Pericles looked around at the miserable place: the bleak, lifeless sky with no stars; the murky, dark sea that didn't move; the dagger-sharp rocks that jolted out like they wanted to kill you. Suddenly, he spotted the thing that mystery incorporated had all came to the caves for: the planispheric disc piece! It was sitting in Judy's hand.

Without a moment's hesitation, Pericles swooped down like an eagle and snatched the piece out of her hand.

Judy gasped in shock.

With a big grin on his face, Pericles stopped in the air and marvelled at the piece.

"Great job, Judy." He smiled, "Now, all we need is the other five pieces and the treasure is-"

"MINE!!!", a grouchy voice interrupted.

Pericles froze.

Slowly, he turned around to where the voice came from and saw a shadow emerge out of a nearby rock.

It was the Freak of Crystal Cove.

Gasping, Pericles cried out "YOU!"

The Freak was the ugliest thing anyone had ever seen. He had two eyes which weren't the same size with a blood-red outline; jagged teeth that grinded together thoroughly; a paper-white face with odd wrinkles; a cascade of messy, black hair and two pointy horns on his head, which could've belonged to the Devil.

With his long nails, the Freak slapped Pericles out of the way, making him drop the disc piece. It landed in Brad's hands.

Pericles landed on the rock, letting out a wry moan.

"Disc piece mine." The Freak growled, giving a petrifying stare to Brad.

Brad hid the piece from The Freak's poor sight.

"We're never gonna give the piece to YOU!" He shouted angrily.

"Chiles is right about that." Pericles said, sitting up.

"Me is no patient..." The Freak warned, curling up his hands into fists.

"You can't do anything except scare us with your looks!" Ricky pointed out, folding his arms. "After all, you're just some loser in a mask!"

The Freak grinned a very ugly grin.

Suddenly, the Freak pounced onto the rock, where the gang was standing.

"Ding dong dadyo..." Ricky quietly said, chuckling nervously.

"You no want regret decision!" The Freak smirked.

For a few seconds the Freak turned his back onto the gang and pulled out some books. He dropped them onto the ground.

Horrified, the gang read the pages:

Homicide- committed by Mrs Owens at 2:00PM in the museum.

Evidence: her shoe was left at the scene of the crime.

Grand Theft- committed by Mr Chiles at 11: 15AM on the street.

Evidence- his fingerprints were on the damaged car.

Dog shooting- committed by Mrs Reeves at 1:05 AM in the woods.

Evidence- she dropped her passport on the dead body.

Smashing up and burning a building- committed by Mr Williams at 5:09PM in a Fruitmyers.

Evidence- police caught him with ashes all over himself at the night of the crime, and the smell of ice cream was around him.

"I-it can't be..." Cassidy stuttered, shaking her head in doubt.

"Piece. Or parents go bye bye." The Freak demanded.

"Just imagine how sad it would be to see your mums and dads go to prison." Pericles chirped up.

He flew over and landed on the Freak's shoulder.

"You would never forgive yourself. What would others think of you? 'Ooh, his mum burned down a whole village,' or 'Don't go near him, his dad's an evil criminal,"

"It would completely ruin your reputation."

"Pericles!?" Ricky's eyes widened as he said the name, "You're apart of this?"

"Ohh, what can I say!" The maniacal bird laughed. "I'm not the same without my disk pieces!"

It was like an arrow had just split through Ricky's Heart. The one he trusted the most, the one he was friends for for many years, the one that always accompanied him, had just gone and double-crossed him.

"So, give him the piece." Pericles said, flying into the air.

Brad sighed. He looked at Judy with sadness in his eyes.

It took minutes before he finally decided to hand over the piece.

"Now what do you want us to do?" Judy asked.

"Leave. And never return." Pericles ordered.

The gang were silent. The Freak followed them as they walked away, into the fog.

The name 'Mystery incorporated' was to be dead for 20 years.

One hour later, Professor Pericles sat on a tree branch near the Spanish church.

He was patiently waiting for the disc piece to arrive.

"Good job, Pericles." A voice said.

Pericles flinched, and looked up. He saw Mr Jones walking towards him.

He had the disc piece in his hand. Pericles snatched the piece away from him greedily and held it like a baby. He admired all of the intricate hieroglyphics on the piece, and the glowing gold it was made out of.

"You did a great job posing as The Freak!" Pericles remarked.

"Yeah." Mr Jones agreed, nodding. "But the main thing is, now those kids are gone and we have our hands on one of the disc pieces!"

"I am now 1/6 away from glory!"

"You mean we."

"Oh, yes! Of course! We make a great team, Jones."

Mr Jones walked out of Pericles's sight. Pericles weirdly kissed the piece on the beak.

"Oh, and one more thing." Mr Jones announced.

"And what may that be?" Pericles asked.

And before he could stop him, Mr Jones grabbed the Birds face with a cloth, and threw him on the ground like trash.

Everything went black.
