Hey guys! So, yes, I know that this idea has been done before by certain people. But, I thought I'd do it. I will stay true to the episode and its dialogue, but I will add certain things so that it's (hopefully) a little more interesting. So, here is the first chapter!

Hiccup and Toothless zipped across the water at lightning speed, sending it into motion. Currently, they were doing patrol over the island's waters. Hiccup squinted intently at the waters below, hoping to spot any sign of hunter activity. Astrid had offered to do surveillance instead, but being the person that he was, Hiccup decided that he should take it this time. Besides, he and Toothless were the fastest of the team. Plus, if Hiccup spotted any Dragon Hunters, maybe one of them would tell him where Viggo was. And, oh, when Hiccup found Viggo, he was going to. . .

Well, he did not exactly know what he was going to do, but rest assured, Viggo was going to pay dearly for what he did. Oh, how Hiccup would relish making that wicked man suffer-

Hiccup pulled himself from these dark thoughts. This was not like him. It was not like him at all. Hiccup never would torture or kill anyone no matter what they had done to him. What was happening to him? Then, out of nowhere, Hiccup recalled the words that Dagur had said to him. "Revenge, anger, obsession. . .it can make you do things you never thought you were capable of."

Hiccup gripped the saddle's handles tightly. I have to stop this, he thought. I have to stop. I nearly got Toothless killed last time. What if, next time, I'm not so lucky and-

He unconsciously let out a shudder at the end of this unfinished thought. Toothless looked up at him concernedly, warbling lowly.

Hiccup sighed. "Sorry, bud. I'm just a little tense. I just can't stop thinking about. . ."

His voice trailed off, and Toothless cooed acknowledgingly.

Hiccup laughed ruefully. "Sometimes, I wish I had a lever to stop my brain from thinking. It'd probably save me from a lot of stress."

Toothless nodded. Suddenly, he doubled his pace and flew in loop-de-loops, shrieking in delight. At this, Hiccup could not help but smile. His friend knew exactly how to help him decompress. Hiccup had been working hard since the defeat by Viggo and the Dragon Hunters seemed perpetually on his mind. But, he supposed that it was alright to lighten up a bit. It felt wonderful feeling the rush of the cold, morning wind against his face. It had been so long since he had truly felt this freedom that accompanied flying.

Hiccup let out a whoop as they whirled up to the clouds and dropped by down to the oceans below. Then, with great skill, they speedily combed through the sea stacks to the clear ocean.

"I owe one," he said, petting Toothless who purred happily. Taking out his map, Hiccup scratched an X over the center of it. "Okay, alpha quadrant checked out. Looks like there's nothing but water. Huh, well, looks like we'll be back in time for-"

He broke off as he spotted something looming in the distance. A fishing boat just peeking out of a shroud of morning mist. It was just drifting in the water in almost an eerie manner.

Toothless growled agitatedly.

"Yeah, I know, e-easy, bud." Hiccup petted his dragon reassuringly. "Wonder what that thing's doin' out here. . ."

Toothless turned his large green eyes up towards his rider, a nervous warble escaping him.

"Let's get a closer look, bud."

Hiccup leaned forward, but Toothless jerked back with a small screech of alarm.

Hiccup patted the Night Fury's head, trying to assuage his agitation. "H-hey, it's okay, Toothless, it's just a boat." Then, under his breath, he added, "A boat drifting ominously out of a fogbank."

Toothless eyed him. That's exactly what I'm worried about!

To be honest, Hiccup was worried, too. An unknown fishing boat drifting near their waters out of a gray cloud of mist, it seemed like something out of one of those horror stories that Tuffnut or Gobber told around the campfire at night. Hiccup's imagination began to conjure all of the horrifying stories of monsters that he had heard as a child. But Hiccup shook his head. He was being ridiculous. Honestly, the places his mind went to sometimes.

"It's okay, Toothless, we'll be in and out. Besides, what's the worst that could happen?"

Toothless huffed, but acquiescing, he flapped his wings, and they gracefully landed on the wooden deck. Looking around, Hiccup noticed the obvious lack of people on the ship. There was nothing here but a deafening silence. There was something that was clearly wrong about this boat. Something that made Hiccup feel fear in the pit of his stomach.

Timidly, he walked towards the entrance to the cabin of the ship, but just before he did, he gave Toothless a signal to stay alert in case of an ambush. Toothless stepped close to Hiccup and revealed his teeth. Hiccup approached the ajar door, stepping lightly on the creaking boards. He peeked his head in.

Darkness and nothing more.

"Huh," Hiccup murmured and turned to leave. "Looks like it's abandoned-"

But then came a weak groan of. . .pain.

Hiccup jolted around. Someone was in the cabin.

"Come on, bud," he whispered, entering through the doorway.

It was dark and silent as death. Hiccup walked carefully down the creaking hallway of the ship. Funny. He could have sworn he heard someone here.

"Hello?" Hiccup called, a hint of agitation in his voice. "Hello? Is anyone here?"

No answer.

Then, as Hiccup was near the cabin, his nose was met with a foul stench. He just about threw up when he smelled it, and it was only through extreme self-control that he kept his breakfast down. Oh, what on earth was that awful smell? It smelled like perspiration and something. . .rotting.

"Toothless, torch," Hiccup coughed out.

Firing a small plasma blast, Toothless lit the torch which Hiccup took in hand. Hiccup stepped into the cabin, and his breath quavered at what he discovered.

There were at least twenty sailors' bodies lying on the wooden floor in various contorted positions. Their skin was a pale, sickly-green color. Their eyes were wide open and a horrible yellow, completely devoid of life. Hiccup's heart pounded in his chest as he lost his breath.

He knew what this was. It was an illness he had read about in a history book. They called it the Scourge of Odin.

Taking a step back, Hiccup tried to regain himself. It was a horrible, awful sight. If he had ever seen anything so evil-looking, this was it. He felt absolutely terrified. He wanted to scream in fright, but the only thing that passed his quivering lips was a shaky, "No."

Then, he felt something snatch him by the upper arm. A horrible, green hand. Hiccup was so horrified that he had no time to react and pull away. The hand grasped tightly onto him, digging its nails into his flesh painfully, tearing his sleeve and drawing blood.

In a scream of horror, Hiccup bolted away, dropping the torch. He ran as fast as he could, not daring to look back for a second. He did not stop until he reached the deck of the ship. Hiccup panted breathlessly, his heart thundered in his chest.

"Oh, my. . .oh, gods," he breathed tremulously, feeling more terrified than he had ever felt in his life. "What. . ."

Toothless crooned worriedly, licking the scratch on his arm.

But Hiccup pulled away, clutching at it. "It-it-it's o-okay, Toothless. It's just-it's just a scratch."

Toothless' eyes were wide with fear and concern. Are you alright?

Hiccup nodded quickly. "Y-y-yeah. I-I'm f-fine. Let's just get outta here."

Toothless did not argue, and as soon as Hiccup climbed onto his back, he flapped his wings quickly and soared at his top speed back towards Dragon's Edge.

"Da-da-da, we're dead!" Sorry, just kidding. Well, keep an eye out for the next chapter!
