Leaving the hunters behind, the two vessels made their way to the Emerald Forest. They had plenty to talk about after all. So, a moment later, the duo found themselves at the ruins they encountered before. There both of them made themselves comfortable under one of the walls, where the Hollow Knight propped itself against the wall, while the Knight sat in front of it on it's knees, the two staring at each other.
What they had to do now was figure out, how to give a proper voice to the Hollow Knight. Truth to be told, the Knight wasn't sure. It was able to control the Void and bend it to it's will, which allowed it to utilize full extent of all the Void related abilities it experienced thus far. However, when it came to creating things out of nowhere, it was something it wasn't confident it.
So, first things first, it started off with it's own voice. It was something it mimicked after it defeated Pure Vessel in the Pantheon of the Knight. It showed all it's other siblings surrounded by the Void, the Hollow Knight looking similar to it, before it was trained to it's current status. Back then, the Radiance roared and the Void roared back.
Back when the two talked with Ozpin, the Knight used it, not able to fully control every aspect of it. However, now that it was able to do so in the first place, it could do it again. Still, one thing yet remained, how was Ozpin able to find them and arrive just in time to intercept them?
"This man called Ozpin was able to track us down, despite us hiding from plain sight and going through the forest. It's possible, he is is spying on us even at this very moment," Hollow Knight said.
"Indeed. Question is, how is he able to do so?" The Knight replied, as it browsed through it's memories. There, it noticed something it didn't pay attention to before. There were things called 'cameras' there. They were able to transmit a video of a place to someplace else. "Cameras."
"Cameras...? What are those?" It asked.
"Well, they seem to be some kind of machines, ones that allow others to see things through them, even from a long distance," The Knight replied.
"So, Ozpin used them to spy on us?" It asked, while the Knight nodded. "I see. Are we being watched even at this very moment?"
"Let me check," The Knight replied as it called upon the power of the Void once more.
What it needed to do was check whether or not there were cameras here. However, the Void wasn't simply everywhere and the Knight didn't want to flood the forest with it. So, instead, it decided to send very small tendrils below the ground, starting from it. It began sensing around it, and the more it searched, the more it's eyebrows raised.
The forest was filled to the brim with these cameras, which could also move. They were pretty much everywhere and only a few places were free from them, one of which was a massive cave where a Death Stalker lived. It seemed like, it wouldn't be easy to stay incognito. However, now that the two knew what they were dealing with, they decided to make their way to the cave and go from there.
"This Ozpin person is not someone we should trust. The fact that he spies on us even at this very moment is disturbing to say the least," Hollow Knight said.
"Agreed. However, that's the reason we made a deal with him. We must not tell him about the Abyss, the Vessels, the Soul and especially the Void," The Knight agreed.
It took a while, before the duo arrived at their destination, the Death Stalker inspecting them, but leaving the alone. The Grimm had a jet-black exoskeleton underneath several large, white, bone-like plates upon it's back, which were adorned with red markings and a golden stinger for the scorpion-like Grimm.
Sensing no more cameras, the two made themselves comfortable, while the Knight started off with trying to create a speaking Void construct. It started off with something simple, which was summoning a single Void Tendril. The Tendril arrived in a pool of the Void, arriving in front of the Knight. It ordered it to speak and the results were... unexpected.
The Void Tendril spoke, but it sounded more like gibberish, similar to the kind of voice the Knight used not so long ago. It made the vessel frown, so it tried again, over and over again. Controlling the Void and using it as an extension of it's body was quite simple, even transferring it to the Hollow Knight was fairly easy, all things considered.
However, trying to make it do something different like talk was a little bit harder. Fortunately if there was one thing the Knight was something incredibly good at, it was persistence. It would not stop, until it would succeed. So, the time was spent in silence as the Knight wasted a full day worth of time, until it was finally able to figure how to give the Hollow Knight the ability to speak, making it feel accomplished.
"It... worked…," Hollow Knight expressed it's surprise.
"It did, it wasn't easy," The Knight said.
"I... agree, but... you... did... it. Well... done...sibling," It said.
"Thank you," The Knight said. "Shall we practice speaking together?"
"Let... us... do... that...," It agreed.
"So, what are they doing know?" Glynda asked.
"They went back to the forest, stayed in the ruins for a moment, before making their way to a cave, with some paintings on it," He explained.
"The cave? Why did they go there? Did they find out about the cameras?" She asked.
"It's hard to say for certain. I haven't been able to notice anything that would warrant such conclusion. All cameras are intact and seem to be working just fine. Perhaps they found it appealing to hide, especially since the Grimm don't attack them?" He pointed.
"That could be so. Still, the initiation is coming up soon and along with that, a new generation of hunters. Let's see Ruby Rose, the one we met in Vale and... Jaune Arc, the one whose papers were fake," She said, while frowning. "I am not sure what was the boy expecting? Even if he managed to get in unnoticed, the lack of training and his education thus far would have caught up to him."
"Perhaps, he does come from the Arc family, so he may have a potential. Although... I am thinking there is someone else that I would rather have join Beacon instead," Ozpin admitted and sipped a bit of his coffee.
"And who would that be?" Glynda inquired.
"The Hollow Knight," Ozpin admitted.
"That... thing? We don't know who they are, we don't know what they are. And even the place they called 'Hallownest', it doesn't exist anywhere. Not in the myths, not in the legends, archives or anyplace else," She pointed out.
"I know that, Glynda, my dear. However, if the two get attached to some of the first year students, perhaps, we can convince them to join the academy," He replied.
"And how do you intend to do that? They intend to go to the city in the next few days, unless we can give them some concentrate information about the 'Hallownest', which we have got none of," She pointed out.
"Indeed, we don't, but they don't know about that," He pointed out.
"You don't intend to make some kind of story, to make them stay here, do you?" She asked.
"If I could, I would have done so by now. However, because we don't know anything about about them or the Hallownest, we can't make anything up, not that it would work in long term anyway. However, if we can convince them to stay with us, give them access to our library and perhaps get Ironwood and others to help, we can make a convincing argument that we are looking for it, but no success thus far," He explained.
"That's... possible. However, what do you intend to do, if they go to the Vale anyway?" She asked.
"At this point, I will have somebody escort them and go from there. If we can earn their trust, then perhaps it may be possible to learn more about them and their powers," He replied.
"I understand. Very well, so, what should I do about Jaune Arc in that case?" She asked.
"For now, put him on the reserve list and if the Hollow Knight doesn't join the group, then we will have him join at the last moment. That way, we can have a backup plan, in case things go awry," He explained.
"Agreed, in any event, let us get back to work, Ozpin," She ordered, the man looking at her with a pleading look. "No buts, there are still many more students left to evaluate."
"I know, I know...," He replied, sighed and got back to work.
The two vessels then spent another two days trying to learn how to speak without coming across as some kind of monsters to kill, like Grimm. Thanks to the memories it acquired, the Knight was able to change his voice into more of a neutral one, without a gender, akin to a child. While the Hollow Knight adopted more mature voice, even though they were of the same age. It was difficult at first, but the with enough time and effort, it was able to get used to the vocal cords it now possessed. The Knight also practiced with the power of the Void, making it a bit easier to control. It still had plenty to learn nevertheless.
However, the time has come to visit Ozpin, and so, the two vessels left the cave and began walking towards the Cliff. As they were walking towards it, the light shining from the Sun, they heard sounds of shooting, similar to that of the gun that fired at them coming from somewhere in the sky. That confused the two vessels, making them curious about it's origin. The Knight also noticed a single Nevermore flying through the sky and came up with an idea of it's own.
"I am going to take a look from the sky, from the Grimm," The Knight said.
"Very well, I shall scour the ground in search of the origin of the sound," The Hollow Knight replied.
"See you soon," The Knight said, charged up his Crystal Heart and flew upward, until it found itself close to the Grimm, which took notice of it.
Just like the last time, the Knight didn't cause a single reaction from it as it landed on it's body and began looking from above at the forest below it. The sight it saw, made it blink it's pitch black eyes. Humans and others were roaming around the area for some reason and disposing of the Grimm that stood in their way. That worried the Knight, as it could end up in a fight between them and the hunters. Just as the Knight considered what to do, a duo of individuals decided to hitch a ride on the Grimm.
The first one was a pale-skinned young woman with pale blue eyes and long white hair pulled back into an off-center ponytail and a single scar running through her left eye. The other one was a fair-skinned young girl with silver eyes and neck-length black hair with red tips. Thankfully enough, neither of the teens noticed the Knight as it pondered what to do next.
"I told you it was a terrible idea!" Weiss yelled.
"We're fine! Stop worrying!" Ruby replied back.
"I am so beyond worrying!" Weiss yelled back.
"In a good way?" Ruby tried.
"In a bad way! In a very bad way!" Weiss replied.
"Well, why don't we just jump?" Ruby asked.
"What are you, insane?!" Weiss yelled, only to notice that Ruby was already gone. "Oh, you insufferable, little..."
The Knight could only watch in utter confusion as the girl jumped from the Grimm and was heading towards the ground. A fall like this wouldn't kill it, but the girl? She actually might be in trouble. It considered jumping after her, when it noticed two other individuals beneath it, located directly below the now falling girl.
The first one was a fair-skinned young woman with wavy black hair and amber eyes, dressed in black and white outfit of some kind. The other one was fair-skinned young woman with lilac eyes and bright golden hair that faded to pale gold at the tips with a cowlick sticking out at the top.
"Heads up!" Ruby yelled as she fell from the Grimm.
The Knight could only stare as she collided with the blond, the two landing in a pile of limbs, dizzy from the crash. These humans… were really not smart, were they? In the meantime, another duo, a girl with orange hair and blue eyes along with a male with black hair and pink eyes joined the fray by riding a Grimm, which then proceeded to die. Well, at least now, he knew why the teens were here as the girl picked up some kind of object from the ruins the two vessels found a few days ago. Although, that reminded him, where was the Hollow Knight?
The Hollow Knight was walking through the forest, heading towards the old ruins the two encountered during their stay here. It seemed like a good place to start, seeing as it was located in the open. However, as it walked through the woods, it heard a rustling, making it draw it's blade as it turned towards it's source.
The first thing that caught it's attention was waist-long ponytail of red colour, curled slightly into a loose ringlet, followed shortly by a pair of green eyes. She was wearing a brown overbust corset with a vertical strip of lighter brown in the center. Her weapon of choice was a spear combined with round shield, similar to what some guards of the Hallownest used to wield.
"A Grimm…?" She asked, as she readied her weapon, their eyes crossing.
"… Not a Grimm," It replied, weapon at the ready.
"Oh, I am sorry, I didn't mean to insult you, um…, stranger," Pyrrha Nikos said and lowered her weapon a bit.
"… No problem," It replied, as it also lowered it's weapon. "Why are you here?"
"Oh, it's due to an initiation of the Beacon Academy," She replied. "Are you one of the participants by any chance?"
"No…," It replied.
"Oh, I see…," Pyrrha said as she considered what to do.
According to the rules, they were to form a squad with the first person they saw. And it seemed like she came across someone who wasn't exactly a Beacon Student. At this point, she wasn't sure what to do? Search for another partner? Work with this one? She didn't know.
"… Do you intend to stay here?" Hollow Knight asked.
"No, it's just… I am supposed to form a squad with the first person I see and…," She began.
"… I am the first one you saw, didn't you?" It asked, while the girl nodded. "… Temporary squad members, does it sound acceptable?"
"Yes, thank you," Pyrrha said, glad she wouldn't be left on the ice. "I am Pyrrha Nikos."
"Hollow Knight…," It introduced itself.
"Hollow Knight…? That's… unique name," She said, not excepting anything like this. "So, should I call you the Hollow Knight or…?"
"...No, something… simpler," It replied.
"How about… HK? It's a shortcut from your name," She explained.
"...HK is fine. What is our objective?" It asked.
"Retrieve a relic from the ruins shall we go there?" She asked.
"…Let's," HK replied.
"How could you leave me?!" Weiss yelled as she held on for her dear life to a single claw of the Nevermore and then… she slipped.
The Knight could only sigh as it decided to help for once. It jumped off the Nevermore and began falling like a needle, thus increasing it's momentum. When it got close to the girl, it flew behind her and gently grabbed her by the arms, alerting the girl, who turned towards it.
"What the…?!" She yelled as she reached for her weapon, only for a pair of translucent wings to appear behind the Knight. It began beating it's wings, slowing their descent and making Weiss hesitate as she looked at what looked like Grimm, but didn't act like one.
"Don't try anything funny," She warned. The Knight gave her a deadpan, before shaking it's head as it slowly descended to the ground and let go off the girl, before landing next to her. "Hmph, thank you, I guess." The Knight didn't reply as it looked around in search of it's sibling.
"Weiss!" Ruby yelled as she latched on to the girl.
"Let go off me, Ruby!" Weiss protested, while the girl squeezed her hard.
"What the hell is that thing?" Yang asked as she gestured to the Knight, who completely ignored her.
"I don't know. It looks like a Grimm, but it doesn't act like one," Blake pointed out.
"Ren, Ren, can we keep it?" Nora asked as she lifted the Knight off the ground and squeezed it hard.
The Knight could only watch as two mounds of flesh embraced it, threatening to suffocate it, if it was a normal bug. Instead, it tried to push the woman away, earning a giggle or two from her. Just as it considered using a shadow dash, the male came to the rescue.
"Nora, let go off it or it will suffocate," Ren ordered.
"Aww…," Nora pouted and dropped the Knight to the ground.
As the group was looking at the scene, two more individuals entered the scene. The Hollow Knight and some kind of female it did not recognize. The two were heading towards them, the Knight nodding towards it's siblings, which it returned.
"Is that… a humanoid Grimm walking next to Pyrrha?" Weiss asked, not able to believe her own eyes.
"It sure as hell looks like one," Yang said.
"But it's not attacking her," Ruby pointed out.
"Should we do something…?" Blake asked.
"I don't think so," Ren said, as he observed the Hollow Knight.
"Everyone, I am here," Pyrrha said with a smile.
"Pyrrha, who is that?" Weiss asked, glancing between the Knight and the Hollow Knight.
"It's HK, he is… my temporary squad mate," She explained.
"What? How? When?" Weiss asked.
"It's… a pretty weird story," Pyrrha started with a weak smile. "By the way, who is that?" She pointed to the Knight.
"I dunno know, some kind of mute Grimm like being. He saved the Ice Queen here," Yang said.
"I was perfectly fine, thank you very much," Weiss protested.
"Not mute," The Knight said.
"Woah, It can talk?! Ren, we must keep it!" Nora begged her partner.
"Nora, no," Ren denied, the girl giving him puppy eyes.
"Scree!" The Nevermore screeched earning the attention of the group.
"Now is not the time for that!" Weiss yelled, before another Grimm burst out of the forest.
"You have to be kidding me," Yang groaned as the deathstalker rushed towards them.
That was enough for the Knight, who had enough of the Grimm being annoying and making it hard for both of the vessels. He sent a message to it's sibling and the two came to agreement. The Knight would deal with the nevermore, while the Hollow Knight with the deathstalker. The two vessels walked towards the Grimm, which stopped their pursuit.
"Wait, let me help!" Pyrrha tried to join, only for the HK to give her a glare, stopping her in her tracks. It shook it's head, before focusing on it's enemy.
The Grimm eyed the vessels, as they considered what to do. They were not their enemies, but they stood in their way, so they had to die. That was what the monsters thought and attacked. The nevermore started off with a barrage of feathers, which skewered the ground. However, the two vessels were ready.
The Knight used the Crystal Heart to fly into the air, avoiding the projectiles, which were much easier to dodge compared to the likes of Markoth or Absoulute Radiance. HK on the other hand, used it's void power to teleport short distance and avoided the damage. It then began running towards the massive scorpion.
It jumped in the air, before landing right on top of the Grimm, skewering it in the middle, before pillars of pure light erupted from beneath it, turning the Grimm into mincemeat. In the meantime, the Knight flew up to the Grimm, landed on it's body and ran forwards, until it was next to it's head, it's nail art ready. Ir released a power it held, a single powerful cut slicing off the head of the Grimm, killing it instantly.
"Woah…," Yang muttered as the pair of vessels took care of the Grimm much faster than she could have believed.
"How…?" Weiss asked, not able to believe her own eyes.
"That was so cool…," Ruby muttered, her eyes turning towards the weapons the two wielded. "Oh, poor baby." The weapon of the HK was in such a sorry state, it made her want to cry. She hoped there was a good reason for it. Weapons were precious after all.
"I don't know about you… but I don't think they are Grimm," Blake said, everyone turning towards her. "What?"
"Heh, you could say it wasn't nearly as blake and white, as you thought," Yang said, making everyone groan at her horrible pun. "Come on guys, it was pretty good, don't you think?"
"Yang, please don't," Ruby begged her sister, while the rest of the group watched the two vessels coming towards them.
"What was that?!" Glynda asked, shocked by the power of the Hollow Knight. "Was that some kind of semblance, Ozpin?"
"… I don't know," The man replied as he repeated the scene over and over on his scroll, a device similar to a mobile phone. "I can not confirm or deny that theory. Much more importantly, the Knight."
"It's able to fly, strong enough to kill a Nevermore in a single slash and can use some kind of power to deflect bullets… This is beyond any semblance," She summarized.
"Exactly my thoughts, my dear. We must learn more about them, but with this display… I think we can just pull it off, especially if the Hollow Knight decides to stay with Miss Nikos," Ozpin said, a plan slowly forming in his head.
Author's Notes:
Reads reviews, sees a review that states that RWBY is the worst thing in the world and the fiction should be abandoned.
Oh boy, not even five chapters in and I already had a review like this. This gotta be some kind of new record. Anyway, I write because I like writing, it's a hobby. You don't like RWBY? Fine. Then, don't read it. I am not a big fan of it anyway. I only wanted to make this fiction, because Hollow Knight should have more crossovers and such.
Plus, RWBY is semi-decent till volume 4. After that, it goes to hell. So, I was going to simply use the first volumes as a base and go from there. Also, RWBY the worst? Please, don't make me laugh. There are worse things in the world, then poorly written Monster Hunter rip off, like, I don't know, naruto? That thing with DBZ level power scaling, terrible characters, garbage plot and one of the worst protagonists in existence? Yeah, no, RWBY looks kind of good compared to it.
