Doki Doki Literature Club was a visual novel released in September of 2017. One that is recommended that you experience for yourself. With 4 characters you can interact with those being Sayori, Monika, Natsuki, and Yuri. These characters are the only people players will ever pay attention to and acknowledge. There are no background characters and no real distractions that prevent you from interacting with the girls and getting to know them on deeper levels.

This story will be taking elements from the visual novel, however I do not lay claim to any of them.

Now… I'll begin.

Reality

For once I wasn't waiting for Sayori to wake up on time for school.

For once it looked like I was the one who was being waited on.

It's not exactly common for her to wake up and be ready before me. In those moments she's especially peppy and outgoing. It might have happened more often in our First Year. But those moments became rarer and rarer as the new norm became either waking Sayori up for school myself, or watching her rush out the door hastily downing some light brown toast.

"Hey Sayori," I called out to her. For once running up to her instead of the other way around. "You're up early today."

I hadn't even seen the morning couples start their trek to school yet, which made this occasion even rarer. In fact I was somewhat of an early bird so that I could avoid them and be at peace in the quiet morning walk with no one to disturb me.

Yet she was there, just as quiet as the empty street.

No… just as silent as the empty street. No traffic, no pedestrians, no wind, no animals.

It made me aware of how loud I had been.

"W-What…" she mumbled quietly.

Her voice cut through the silence, meek thought it may have been.

"Sayori…?"

"What is this?" Her voice was fragile, lost and confused.

"What is what?" I asked her. "Is something bothering you?"

More silence. She hadn't even moved once to acknowledge me. Her eyes were unseeing but clearly looking at something beyond me.

"No… This can't be it…"

Can't be it?

"This can't be all there is… What is this?" She's panicking, freezing up on herself as if the world itself were oppressing her.

I moved to comfort her. "Sayori, are you okay?" I lightly shake her to see if I can snap her out of whatever's going through her head. "What's the matter?"

"What is this? What am I?" Her voice gets more frantic, her eyes gain a manic glint at them. Her hands twitch as if to grasp onto something like a lifeline and never let go. "Make it stop!" She yelled at me. Causing me to back away in confusion.

Stop? Stop what? Stop it how?

"PLEASE MAKE IT STOP!"

Then as if to aid her in her time of need…

A black void illuminated by white. There are no other colors. No sound. No people. No air. No water. No sky. No Earth. Only the feeling of numbness as a colorless corpse resembling my best friend hangs in front of me.

It was madness. Nonsensical.

I don't know what I felt looking at it. I don't know how long I looked at it. But I looked at it for quite a while. Long enough to notice the slightly messy scrawl of my best friend's handwriting.

"Now everyone can be happy."

Those words…

Those infuriating nonsensical words…

They mocked me, angered me like nothing else would.

If this was what she saw…

I woke up gasping for air. The remnants of whatever nightmare plagued me are already gone.

Man… today's going to be a horrible day. I can feel it.
