They were smiling.

They were at home.

They were safe.

They were wrong.

They were attacked.

"Run! Go hide!"

He did.

The police came.

It was too late.

She had died.

No cries were heard.

No tears were shed.

'How boring.'

He played with his pen as he listened to the teacher drone on about the history of quirks. The subject wasn't anything new to him so he didn't bother paying attention.

Why bother when he had practically read everything there was on the subject? You tend to have quite a lot of time to spare when you lack the ability to form emotional bonds. Not to mention the fact that quirks were the only thing people talked about nowadays. Needless to say, Izuku found the subject to be quite dull.

'Can't they teach something beneficial...' Izuku thought as he closed his eyes.

"Midoriya! Maybe you'd like to teach the class." the teacher said, sending him an annoyed look. Izuku rolled his eyes as he sent a bored look at the man. The teacher had practically made it his personal mission to try to get Izuku into trouble.

Izuku just sighed as he stood up. "Quirks appeared nearly 200 years ago. The cause of their appearance is still unknown. The very first recorded incident of a quirk manifesting was when a newborn baby in Qingqing City, China had the ability to emit light. Since then, many people around the world began manifesting super human abilities, each different from another in its own way. This dawn of super powered humans caused the breakdown of society with the appearance of villains and prejudice against quirk users. The ordinary civilians decided to take matters into their own hands and became vigilantes, using their quirks to fight the villains. Thus, the Vigilantes Era began. Soon, society began adapting to the new status quo with the Police Force deciding not to use quirks as weapons, giving birth to the profession of Pro Heroing. Quirks can be divided into the following categories; Mutant types, Transformation types and Emitter types. A quirk will usually manifest at the age of four but it is possible for a child to be born with a quirk already manifested, such was the case with the Pro Hero, Present Mic. The presence of a quirk can be detected through the presence or absence of an extra joint in one's pinky toe. One joint indicates the development of a quirk while two joints indicates that the person is quirkless."

The class looked at him in awe, wondering how he did all that in one breath. He didn't even change his tone throughout the whole thing!

"Need I add anything else?" Izuku asked, a bored look still plastered on his face.

"N-No. That's enough." the teacher stuttered, clearly unhappy at being embarrassed by a student. He turned towards the board with a huff, mumbling about 'smartass kids'.

Izuku shook his head, sitting back down. 'Troublesome,' he thought as he looked out the window.

Izuku was having a pleasant walk home. After school let out, he quickly sprinted out the gates, not wanting to deal with the annoyance that was Bakugo. Years of avoiding the explosive teen had allowed him to slip past the boy with ease. At least that's what he thought.

"Oi nerd!"

It seemed that Bakugo was feeling persistent today.

"Nice to see you too, Bakugo," Izuku said, not even turning around.

"You think you're so smart?! Pulling that shit in class! You're just a useless Deku!!!" the blonde said, his palms sparking.

"And you feel the need to tell me that... Why?"

"You think you're hot shit, huh?! You're just an emotionless freak!" By now, Bakugo looked close to exploding.

Izuku sighed before answering in a bored tone. "I'm in no mood for this." He walked away, angering the blonde even more.

"You just gonna walk away?!!" Receiving no response, the explosive teen seethed. "Let's see how you handle this!!" he said, letting out an explosion.

*Fwoosh*

Bakugo was sent flying into a lamp post, knocking him out cold.

Izuku turned towards the downed teen. "You should know by now that your attacks don't work on me. My quirk makes them pretty much useless." He gave a bored stare, knowing that the blonde teen would be fine. "Now if you'll excuse me I have to get h-" A bunch of slime appeared, interrupting the greenette.

"Haha! It must be my lucky day. Thanks for making my job easier, kid," the sludge villain said, surrounding the unconscious Bakugo.

Izuku quickly pulled out a knife he kept on him. His mom had insisted on him having something to defend himself with. With one swift motion, he stabbed... his palm. A beam of energy shot out of the injured palm, hitting the villain's only tangible body part, the eyes.

"Ahh! You brat! I'll get you for this!" the villain shouted before a blur punched him, spreading the slime all over the place.

"Sorry I'm late! Navigating the sewers here is a lot harder than I thought!" Standing in front of Izuku was the number one hero and Symbol Of Peace, All Might.

Izuku ignored the hero in favour of checking on his classmate. He may have been an annoyance but Izuku still held some level of concern for him.

Walking over to his body, he put two fingers on his neck. "Good. He's alive," he said after checking his pulse. He took out his phone and dialed the number for an ambulance. When he was done, he looked behind him only to find that the number one hero had left.

'He must be busy,' Izuku thought before looking back to his 'friend'. Guess he better wait for that ambulance before leaving...

"Oh no! That villain has a hostage!"

Izuku didn't know how this had happened. One moment, he was walking home after the ambulance had taken Bakugo and the next, he was watching yet another villain attack. What's more was that this was the SAME villain that attacked him. Said villain was also holding a purple haired girl hostage. She had cords for earlobes that thrashed around as she tried to escape from the villain's grasp. None of the Pros had quirks that were effective in this situation.

Izuku looked at the girl's eyes and felt something he hadn't felt in a while. Emotions. Worry for the girl's safety. Rage at the villain for attacking an innocent civilian. Anger at the heroes for not doing anything. Most importantly, he felt determined. Without a second thought, he rushed towards the villain.

Pulling out his knife, he stabbed the palm of his hand, earning a few concerned looks from the crowd. Narrowing his eyes, he shot a beam from his wounded palm, nailing the villain right in the eye... again.

"Really?! Again?!" the villain cried out in pain. Using the distraction, Izuku tried to pry the girl from the slime.

"What are you doing?!" she yelled, looking at him as if he was crazy. Izuku just ignored her as continued scrapping the slime. He probably was anyway.

Keeping his monotonous tone, he replied, "I can't just let you die." He struggled to get rid of the slime holding the girl but it was far too much. Suddenly, a yellow blur followed by a booming voice appeared.

"Have no fear! Cause I am here!" the number one hero cocked his fist back and punched the villain, seemingly disintegrating the slime. "Sorry for letting you kids do all the work!"

All Might gave his signature smile as the crowd broke out into cheers.

"What a powerhouse!"

"He changed the goddamn weather!!"

"That's the number one hero!"

"Oh my god!! I can't believe it's him!"

"All Might saves the day again!!!"

Izuku sighed. Knowing it was over, Izuku looked around as he surveyed the damage. 'No one else was caught in the crossfire. Good.' He thought before the annoyed and angry looks from the Pro Heroes caught his eye. Right. He still had to deal with that...

Izuku was walking home after being let off with a stern warning. 'Don't even know why they're so mad. For Pros, they sure were ineffective.' But before he could continue that thought, a purple haired girl stood in front of him. He recognised her as the girl he —Well technically All Might— had saved.

She rubbed her neck awkwardly. "Um. Even if All Might was the one who caught the villain, you ran in when other Pros didn't..." Izuku just stared at her curiously. "So thanks. I probably wouldn't be here if you hadn't distracted that villain," she finished with a bow.

"I just did what I thought was right," Izuku replied, his tone not changing.

Surprisingly, the girl just laughed, seemingly unaffected by his monotonous tone. "Pretty heroic. You thinking of being a hero or something?" she asked with a smirk.

"Yeah. It's been a dream of mine since I was a kid," the greenette said, nodding his head. 'This is the second longest conversation I've had since Bakugo...'

"Oh yeah? Which hero school do you wanna go to?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.

"U.A.."

A small smirk formed on the girl's face. "I'm applying for U.A. too. Maybe we'll see each other there."

"Maybe. Just make sure you don't fail."

"What? You think I'm weak or something?" she said, narrowing her eyes a little.

"Not at all," Izuku answered, feeling a little... playful? "Just worried that I'll steal the show."

"A little cocky, don't you think?" she asked but the smirk on her face showed that she wasn't offended. In fact, she looked quite amused.

"I'd like to think of it as confident in my abilities," Izuku said, his tone, surprisingly, filled with mirth.

The girl let out a chuckle. "I'll hold you to that then." She then bumped his shoulder playfully. "Just don't get yourself killed before the entrance exams."

"So I can get myself killed after the exams?" Izuku retorted, his usually bored look turning into a full blown grin.

"Smartass. You know what I mean," she said, lightly hitting him on the back. Izuku found no small amount of satisfaction in the small dusting of red on the girl's cheeks. It had been a long time since Izuku actually had any fun. Alas, all good things had to come to an end as the girl bid him goodbye.

"See you in U.A.." she said with a grin before she turned around and left.

For the first time in a while, Izuku gave a smile. 'In just moments of meeting her, I showed more emotions than I have in my entire life.' he thought to himself as he shook his head and frowned. 'What's happening to me?'

Deciding to think about it later, Izuku started his journey home. As he walked, a thought popped into his head. 'I didn't get her name.' Frowning to himself, he continued his trek. Izuku sighed to himself. He was exhausted both mentally and physically so he wanted to rest as soon as possible. Fate, however, had other plans for him.

"I AM HERE!"

-One Explanation Later-

Izuku listened attentively, keeping quiet as to not interrupt the hero. Suddenly, All Might buffed up, standing in his signature pose.

"Will you accept my power?"

"Okay."

"..."

"..."

"..."

"...What?"

The Symbol Of Peace coughed into his hand awkwardly. "Nothing. I just expected you to be more surprised than this."

"We live in a world full of super human abilities. This can't be the strangest thing that's happened." Izuku shrugged. When you've read as much as him, no plot twists or reveals really surprise you.

"*Ahem* Keeping a cool head. Very useful in hero work!" All Might bellowed to save face. "Now that that's been taken care of, meet me at Dagobah Beach at 6 AM. We'll have your training there!"

Izuku nodded but was inwardly intrigued. 'The beach that was turned into a dump? What kind of training can I do there?'

"Don't be late!" With that, All Might took off leaving Izuku alone. Izuku sighed for what seemed like umpteenth time that day.

'Yare yare daze. My life just got more complicated.'

A/N: Right. Time for an explanation. Izuku here has a quirk that allows him to turn any injury he receives or inflicts upon himself and turn into energy which he can utilise in battle. It's based of Meliodas' Full Counter but I changed it a little as you can see. So the output depends on the scale of the attacks he receives and the injuries he inflicts on himself. The power reflected is doubled. The drawback is that he has to be able to withstand the attack before he can reflect it. Meaning, if he is struck but an attack that can kill him, he won't be able to reflect it back.

Another drawback is over time, he loses more and more of his emotions. Again, inspired by Meliodas. He's not totally devoid of emotions but it is hard for him to make bonds or interact with others. Certain people may bring out his emotions like we see with Jirou. So yeah expect Jirou to be in the pairing. Only question is should I make it a harem. A few girls like Yui, Reiko, Mina and Toru come to mind. Tell me what you think.

You might have some questions about the second attack. Why Jirou instead of Bakugo? I just wanted to change up some things and I remembered that Jirou lives in Shizuoka too.

Now with that out of the way, what'd you think of the story? I welcome reviews and criticism. Any hate, however, will be ignored. Well that's all from me. Bye! See you, hopefully, in my other stories.
