So Lights, camera, action!
Apparently, Zeus was angry at my constant times around Artemis. It wasn't like I did anything to her, just spent time with her is what I called it. As soon as we left camp early in the morning, thunder rumbled in the sky, and Hermes flashed in front of us.
"Father requires your presence immediately". He explained and flashed away.
"Girls, set up camp at least 10 km from here. I shall be back as soon as I can. Perseus, you're coming with me". She said grimly. I wondered what Zeus wanted this time. Certainly not to have a happy pep talk.
Artemis POV
In the throne room, the tension was so thick you could cut a dagger through it. The council members fiddled in anxiety, wondering the sudden meeting Zeus had called. I myself sat in my silver throne, anxious for what was to come. Rarely did my father call a sudden meeting, only when the Second Titan war and Giant war was ongoing did we have so many meetings.
My thoughts were broken when Zeus, thundered in, looking pissed off. I wondered who hurt his ego again. Most likely down in Hades by now.
"I call this meeting begun!" Zeus roared, grumpily sitting down on his throne. At his side, Poseidon looked slightly worried, possibly for his only child.
"So, what's the matter, father?" Athena inquired. Of course, leave it to Athena to ask the questions.
Zeus harumphed, and looked each immortal in the eye.
"Remember the Jackson kid? How the spawn of Poseidon tricked Iapetus into the River Lethe? Well, now he somehow has his memories back, and is gathering a LARGE army of monsters at the borders of Canada!" He grumbled, the veins on his arms tightening on the grip of his master bolt.
"So... What now?" Apollo asked. I mentally smirked. Yes, asking the vaguest, dim-witted questions at council meetings. That's my brother.
Father didn't seem annoyed at the blunt question, and looked forward and asked: "Iris, Goddess of the Rainbow, your King commands you to share the armies of Iapetus!" He shouted from across the room.
Two iris messages appeared in front of the council, one depicting a massive army amassing at the borders of the US and Canada, waiting restlessly to spill demigod blood or immortal blood.
The second, showed Iapteus himself, conversing to a face in the earth, Gaea. Every immortal shivered in the room, watching with caution at the conversation between both powerful immortals.
"- They have to fall this time, mother. My brothers may have failed but I have your support-" He was saying.
Zeus growled from his throne, his neck turning red as he hardly managed to contain his temper. Hera put a comforting hand on his shoulder, and he eased, resorting to scowling at the Iris message. I could tell he wanted to blast Iapetus into smithereens right here, and right now.
"But I thank you for gifting my memories back- without them, this wouldn't have been possible. That drat Jackson kid... He is so dead when he sees me next time..." Iapetus trailed off, sounding a bit like Ares when he criticized Percy.
Waving away the depressing Iris messages, Zeus stood from his throne and cleared his throat.
"Artemis, you shall be taking your hunters to slow down and create obstacles for the monster army, give Camp Half-Blood and Jupiter enough time to get ready. As of Poseidon's son, he shall be heading to Alaska, where I hope he can defeat Iapetus before he arrives back to command the army."
My mouth had barely opened in outrage when Poseidon's jaw clenched, glaring at Zeus. "You DARE send my only son against a Titan, who wants to kill him? How heartless of a ruler are you?" He glared, trident shaking in his hand.
I felt the need to speak up, for the safety and wellbeing of my favorite male. "Father, he might be a male, but I cannot have the guardian of my hunt sent off on a suicide mission. The hunt needs him." I stated evenly, trying to keep my cool.
"More like you need him." Ares snorted, snickering at my discomfort. My bow was out before he could comprehend, five arrows, two right next to his face, and three next to his manly "genitals" on his throne. He gulped and stayed silent. Good choice.
He stayed silent for the rest of the meeting, nervously glancing at me until Zeus thundered, looking outraged.
"I AM KING, AND YOU ALL OBEY ME!"
"NOBODY QUESTIONS MY ORDERS!" He snarled, and the younger gods recoiled at his outburst.
Poseidon glared one last time at Zeus and dissolved into sea mist, most likely to his palace to place his pent up rage out. This I knew because I felt tremors on the ground, earthquakes, from what the Earth Shaker was causing.
"My word is the law, and what I say, I mean. Daughter, inform Perseus of his mission and take on yours. My word is final." He stated, seeing my moutb half opened to protest. The rest said nothing, fearing the wrath of Zeus. Even Apollo chose well, staying silent.
"This meeting is adjourned. Apollo, keep an eye on the army, Dionysus, inform the camp.
I gave one last glare at Zeus, and flashed out to the hunters camp, my anger evident in my flashing eyes. This always happened when I was moody.
I found Percy laughing with the other hunters, clearly enjoying his time. I smiled inwardly at his laughter, his smile. Perfect straight white teeth, straight nose, his sparkling sea green eyes brightened as he saw me, gesturing me next to him. For any other male, they would already be dead gesturing for me to sit next to them, but obviously this was Percy, and we respected each other, as friends, comrades, and confidants. It was no surprise the rest of my hunters knew already.
My foul mood must have been evident, because my hunters stared up at me, and Percy's joyous mood turned into a mood of curiosity and question, raising his eyebrows at me.
"Girls, Percy, I have some news from the meeting today." I sighed, plopping myself down next to Percy, which several girls giggled. Oh, yeah, I was sitting next to Percy. That totally ruined the image of a man-hating goddess. Too tired to even protest or argue, I spoke in quick bursts, updating them.
"Iapetus now has his memories back after Gaea returned his memories."
Percy opened his mouth to probably ask how, but he realized I had already said the answer. Gaea. His mouth abruptly closed, his mouth emitting a deep sigh, rubbing his hands on the sides of his forehead in frustration.
"Not another Titan..." I heard him mutter, groaning in annoyance. I continued.
"And now Gaea and Iapetus have amassed a massive army at the borders of Canada, seeking to destroy the camps, then Olympus." I finished.
Percy spoke first, his eyebrows knitting in confusion, which I found cute. Wait, cute?
"So how did Gaea even help Iapetus? She's asleep, Piper charm spoke her to sleep." He simply said. The other hunters nodded in agreement, not sure how this happened.
"Percy, primordials like Gaea may be forced into slumber, but a fraction, a tiny fraction fo power will always remain awake, and that small fraction can still do things such as helping her children for minor things, or help amass an army of monsters. She is asleep, but the essence of her is still awake." I finished.
Percy's expression darkened, and he turned, facing me, his green eyes darkening like a storm. "Artemis, I feel like there's a catch to this situation, there always is. And it's probably going to be about me." He calmly said.
I snorted. "There is a catch, but you think it's going to be you? I think my brother's ego and overconfidence is rubbing off on you." I laughed, easing the tension.
His face reddened, and he stammered, struggling to create an excuse. "N-No I only expected-"
I cut him off, waving my hand in front, smirking. "Well yeah, this time the demigod trapped in this is Jeoreffey." I sarcastically remarked.
His facial expression morphed into one of confusion and humor. "Jeoreffey? Who the Hades is that?"
My hunters looked at me questioningly, most likely pondering who the heck this Jeoreffey was."
"Ok, ok, there is no Jeoreffey. Zeus has requested our dear Percy to face Iapetus, alone, while we hunt down the monster army." I said, trying my best not to cry. He noticed this, of course, I wondered why he could always notice the little things, my expression, my thoughts, and what I was going to do.
"Hey, it's ok. I'll come back alive, okay? When have I ever died? Besides, I would never die if I had to come back to all you, sweet, loving girls who love torturing me." He smiled sweetly. The hunters gagged, throwing bits of stick and bark at him teasingly.
I nodded and whispered quick good luck at his ear before hugging him tightly, quickly letting go and flashing to my tent, embarrassed. I had wanted to hug him, his warm body against mine, to hug him one last time before his quest. Because you may never know if his end is near, and I wanted to remember these small moments. Being an immortal was hard, and it was cruel. Everything, you remembered, and when something heartbreaking or depressing happens in all those thousands of years, you will always remember. Zoe's death, the Orion incident, all my dead hunters during the Titan War. And I hoped, at least one good thing that happened in my life would come back to me.
Perseus.
Percy POV
I had been having a good time with the hunters, especially the events Thalia had started. A marshmallow fight, hunters hunt me, which was terrifying, cooking a deer by the fire, and doing really dumb things such as shooting arrows into the sky, and seeing if it would come directly straight down. It didn't.
Our laughter was interrupted when Arty - no, Artemis flashed into camp, looking grumpy. Probably the council meeting, I thought cheerily, gesturing her to sit next to me. Instead, she sighed, circling our campfire, and informing us of the council meeting. The once joking mood was now gone, even Thalia watching intently at what her mistress had to say.
"Iapetus now has his memories back after Gaea returned his memories." She said grimly.
My mouth opened to ask how, but I realized that she had already said Gaea had given his memories back. No point asking. Very smart move, Percy. Artemis must've noticed, because a flash of a smirk played on her lips, but quickly disappeared when she spoke once more.
"Not another Titan..." I grumbled in annoyance. I fiddled with a stick I had been grasping, cracking it with force.
"And now Gaea and Iapetus have amassed a massive army at the borders of Canada, seeking to destroy the camps, then Olympus," Artemis informed us, sitting down next to me. Thalia giggled, a wrong time to do this, considering what Artemis had said, but I noticed Artemis was sitting close to me, and that was probably why her face went slightly red. I waved that off as the hearth making those colors.
"So how did Gaea even help Iapetus? She's asleep, Piper charm spoke her to sleep." I inquired, the fact that Gaea was still awake scared me, freezing my heart.
"Percy, primordials like Gaea may be forced into slumber, but a fraction, a tiny fraction fo power will always remain awake, and that small fraction can still do things such as helping her children for minor things, or help amass an army of monsters. She is asleep, but the essence of her is still awake." She informed, looking into my eyes. Goddammit! I fumed mentally. Of course, there was another threat, of course, I probably had to be a part of this. I always somehow was. The fates hated me. Why couldn't I just die already?
"Artemis, I feel like there's a catch to this situation, there always is. And it's probably going to be about me." I sighed, my words replaying my current thoughts.
"There is a catch, but you think it's going to be you? I think my brother's ego and overconfidence is rubbing off on you." She laughed, and I remembered the outings I had with Apollo and the gang, which probably felt like a bad influence for me in Artemis's eyes. Oops. This was probably ruining the mental image of me being a respected male in her eyes. Score.
"N-No I only expected-" I stammered, feeling my face heat up. I could only hope that the hearth's heat and light covered it, but to my surprise the rest of the hunters noticed, snickering at my discomfort.
"Well yeah, this time the demigod trapped in this is Jeoreffey." She sarcastically remarked, deadpanning at me, while rolling her eyes.
Confusion swept through me, and I felt stupid for not realizing her sarcasm. Yeah, the Goddess of the Wild, Hunt, and Moon being sarcastic.
"Ok, ok, there is no Jeoreffey. Zeus has requested our dear Percy to face Iapetus, alone, while we hunt down the monster army." She laughed, easing the tension through everyone. A few uncertain chuckles were done, which did nothing but to make the situation awkward. Noticing the apparent sorrow in her eyes, I rubbed my hand comfortingly across her back, and her body eased, her lips pouting at the news. I myself had not thought of what would happen to me, or when facing off Iapetus, the piercer. Whatever.
I ignored the looks the hunters gave us, but they stayed silent. Luckily.
"Hey, it's ok. I'll come back alive, okay? When have I ever died? Besides, I would never die if I had to come back to all you, sweet, loving girls who love torturing me." I sarcastically remarked, giving her my trademark smirk.
She looked better now, a small smile playing on her lips. She leaned into my ear, and whispered a quick thank you, making my heart flutter. Why the heck was it fluttering? She was my friend, and we had known each other for a long time, so why was I nervous and happy around her? My brain literally stopped working when she hugged me hard, then flashing away. I seemed as shocked as the hunters around the hearth. So Artemis, the maiden goddess hugged me. No biggie, right?
And that's a wrap! Wow, I actually don't regret spending 20mins on this medium chapter. Hope you enjoy, review, and check out VENGEANCE!
