A Song to Soothe an Isolated Soul

A couple weeks had passed since Timmy was first assigned to Tecna. There was significant improvement after the idea that Timmy had showed Tecna his new video game. Timmy had gotten Tecna to eat her meals while telling her about all different types of video games. Though, what puzzled him was that she still refused to speak. One evening, a special meal was being served, and as Timmy opened the doors to Tecna's suite, she was actually awaiting him.

"Hey Tecna, the cooks made something different tonight. Spinach lasagna." As he set the tray down and opened the lid, she looked intrigued. When she slowly brought a forkful of lasagna to her lips, the delicious taste overcome every sense. It was something she had never tasted before and she knew from the first bite that she loved it.

"Tecna, you've never ate this enthusiastically before. I think spinach is your new favorite food." Timmy said with a slight chuckle, and Tecna agreed with a nod over another forkful of lasagna. It was after that day that Timmy tried to ask the cooks to incorporate spinach into different meals, so that Tecna would want to eat them without him having to persuade her with video games.

It was another night that Tecna had one of her nightmares. Timmy immediately shot up from sleep as he heard Tecna screaming from the monitor. Now, her screams were not out of fear, but they sounded painful. They were long and continuous, not as if she was being cut by a blade, but something else entirely. He didn't waste any time to run down to the fairies' suites and into Tecna's room. She was laying on her bed, eyes deeply shut, and Timmy grabbed her hand.

"Ssh Tecna, you're okay." He whispered softly to her, "I'm right here." Tecna tossed frantically in her bed before opening her eyes, and her vison was too blurry to recognize his face. However, she could still recognize his voice, and let it bring her out of her nightmare. Her heart was still racing from whatever she was dreaming about, but it didn't stop when her vison cleared. This man had always been there since she met him, and in her time of complete fear, he was her only certainty. But she couldn't tell him her secrets, no one could know the damage that was done. No one cared enough about her for her to tell them. Or at least, that's what she believed.

"Hey, do you want to tell me what your nightmares are about?" Timmy asked her softly, and despite his soothing voice, she shook her head frantically, "Okay, you can tell me what you're ready. Now let's get you back to sleep, you need your rest." Just like every time before, he took out another dose of her sleeping medication. Though, she sat up, shaking her head violently in protest.

"Don't worry Tecna, I'm not going to leave." He reassured her in just as soft of a whisper as before, "Close your eyes, I'll be right here." So, she did as she was told, taking her medications and lowering her head to the pillow. She closed her eyes as Timmy continued to squeeze her hand, and whisper to her about all the fun they had playing video games. It put a smile on her face for a little bit as she drifted into sleep. It was through observing that night that Timmy realized that not all of Tecna's nightmares were derived from her experiences in Omega. As she slept, he watched her have periodic fits of sobbing. Brandon had been right; it did break him.

"Tecna, why won't you tell me what your dreaming? I want to make it all better, if you just tell me." He sighed as he watched her cry in her sleep.

Over the time Timmy had been with Tecna, he, Brandon and Helia had become good friends. Helia was assigned another fairy by now, since Flora had regained enough of her life to go back to Lynphea and rejoin her family. He still kept in touch with her, since the two had fallen in love during the time that Helia was assigned to the fairy from Lynphea. She respected his job and had confidence that he would never betray her. Now Helia was assigned a fairy from Melody, and he was able to bond with her through writing lyrics for her songs. So when Timmy had heard about this, he decided to do something bold. It was something he had never thought of before.

"I want to help Tecna." He said to Brandon and Helia one day. The statement was pretty vague, so the men had no idea how to respond.

"You're already helping Tecna, she doesn't run away from you anymore." Brandon pointed out.

"No, I mean she… she cries in her sleep." Timmy clarified, voice nearly cracking from the thought. He also wasn't sure how confidential this piece of information was supposed to be, but he trusted them, "I want to do something, and I think I might have an idea, but I'm going to need your help Helia."

"I can't do anything for Tecna, even if I wanted to. We're strictly assigned to our own fairies." Helia told Timmy.

"I'm going to need both you and Musa's help." Timmy added.

"So what do you have in mind?" Brandon asked.

"Call me crazy, but I want you and Musa to to write me a song." He told Helia

"What?" The two other men asked in unison.

"You can sing, dude?" Brandon asked Timmy. The orange haired young man suddenly frowned.

"No…, I can't." He sighed with discouragement. His idea was suddenly shot before he could get in off the ground.

'Don't worry about it, Timmy." Helia reassured him, "I'm sure Musa has a solution."

After Timmy had spent more time looking at his new phone with Tecna that day, he joined Helia and Musa in the music fairy's own quarters for a brief moment to formulate his plan.

"Helia told me all about your idea." Musa began, "I think it's beautiful. And Helia has already come up with the words."

"That's fantastic, thank you Helia." Timmy replied, "There's just one problem, I can't sing. Can you sing it, Musa?"

"I think it would mean a lot more coming from you. After all, it is your idea." The music fairy said, "But I have another solution. I can use my magic to give you the right singing voice to fit the song. Just stand still." So, Timmy obeyed, and Musa placed her hands in front of her. Red and purple music notes surrounded them, absorbing into Timmy's vocal cords. It was not painful, but strangely warm.

"Okay, should we take your new singing voice for a test run?" Musa asked Timmy with a slight giggle, seeing his cheeks turn red briefly.

"Even if he has the voice, I don't think it'll get rid of his stage fright." Helia told her with a laugh.

"He's right," Timmy sighed, "It was a foolish idea. I'm too much of a coward."

"No, you're not." Musa encouraged him, "Just close your eyes and picture Tecna sleeping in her bed. Let your desire to soothe her sorrows be your determination." Then, before Timmy did, Helia handed the lyrics to him and he looked it over. Then, Timmy shut his eyes, allowing visions of the beautiful technology fairy carry him away as he let the words out. When he finished, he noticed that Musa was in tears and Helia was handing her a tissue.

"This song is something she has never experienced before. She's going to know she'll be safe every time you sing it to her." Musa told him with a smile on her face.

"You can do this, Timmy." Helia added, and Timmy smiled back, surprised at what he'd done.

That night was the time of truth as Timmy listened intently for any disturbance through the monitor. Sure enough, he could hear Tecna start moving frantically in her bed. Moments later, Timmy was in her room, and he could hear her screaming like before. Timmy stood there, horrified as he heard her continue the painful screaming. Not a second later, she shot up from sleep, trembling and sobbing again.

"Tecna…, please say something, please tell me what these nightmares are about." Timmy begged, his voice shaking, "I need to know." By now, Tecna didn't know what to do. She didn't know what was worse, being exposed to the agony her dreams put her in or telling Timmy anything. She was convinced he was just here to do his job, but nothing could be farther from the truth. She just looked away from him, not wanting to reveal a word to him. The emotions she was experiencing were too much, and she fell to the bed, continuing to tremble and cry. This was it; this was Timmy's moment. He reached out to her, wrapping her blanket around her, and she did not refuse it. Then, he gathered all the courage he could and began to sing.

"Don't be afraid,

I'll be right there

A hero will keep you from sorrow.

A breeze will blow softly, whispering gently,

That you're not alone.

There will always be a place where you can find me,

And it won't be long, you'll wake up strong.

Life will give way to a better day,

You'll never be alone."

It was during those few moments that Tecna suddenly stopped trembling, and for once in her life, she felt peace. She had instantly drifted into sleep without her medication, and it would be a much more restful sleep than she ever had before. Timmy stared at her dreamily once he noticed her sleeping. His plan to sing to her had worked, and she looked as peaceful as when she went to sleep the day they met. This time, he had a feeling it would last, and even when the nightmares returned, he would sing to her to chase the horrors away.
