Chapter 5 - Dates with the Schnees
Surprisingly, Ruby was able to finish her work faster than any other day, so Weiss kept her promise and took Ruby out to a dessert cafe. Weiss ordered a slice of cheesecake, and Ruby decided to get a chocolate cake with strawberry on top.
"These are so good!"
Ruby cheered after taking one bite of the chocolate cake she ordered. Weiss took a bite of her cheesecake and nodded. These surely were good.
"So Ruby, how's the training with Winter going? I mean, it's Winter so of course, it can't be bad but you're returning hours are getting later and later by the day."
"Oh, um well, sorry, I've been eating dinner with Winter these days, and I guess it takes longer for me to eat because I keep talking to her."
Ruby answered with a smile, then took another bite of her chocolate cake.
"Dinner with Winter?"
"Well yea, because neither Winter nor I have anyone to eat dinner with. And it's all because you guys all ditch me!"
"We can't wait for you for dinner until it's so late! We've got works to do you know."
"Yea I know and that's why I eat dinner with her."
Ruby muffled with a bite of cake in her mouth. She even had crumbs all around her mouth. Weiss grabbed on to a tissue that was on the table and wiped around Ruby's mouth with a sigh.
"You really shouldn't talk with food in your mouth. It's unmannered."
"Sorry."
Ruby apologized but she had a smile on her face.
The two chatted as they ate for about another hour or so before they finally decided to leave.
Ruby Rose spent busy days for the past three months in school. During the weekdays, she trained with Winter, ate dinner with her, and finished her homework and assignments with Weiss afterward. During the weekends, she was tutored from Weiss and spent more time with her team. Her grades got better by day by day as well as her combat skills in general. She grew closer to Winter and sometimes even hanged out with her outside of the training purposes. Weiss tended to spend more time with Ruby as well, and Ruby always called Weiss her "BFF".
Though, Ruby didn't do much with Winter. They either trained or talked to each other in the library or the cafeteria. Ruby didn't even bother asking Winter to hang out with her outside of school, and Winter surely wasn't the type of person to ask those kinds of things. Or more like... was not the type of person to do so as far as Ruby knew.
"So Ruby."
"Yes, Ms. Schnee?"
Ruby answered then took a bite out of her cheese pizza.
"I heard that you've been hanging out with Weiss outside of school often these days."
"Oh, yes, we've been visiting dessert cafe, restaurants, parks, and some other places during the weekends!"
"Do you enjoy it?"
"Of course! Weiss is my best friend forever after all!"
Ruby answered as she gave Winter a thumbs up.
"In that case... why not hang out with me outside of school as well? On Saturday it is."
"Wh-what-with you?!"
Ruby shouted with her eyes opened wide. She didn't expect Winter out of all people to suggest to hang out.
"Yes, you can reject it. I'm not forcing you."
"No no, I'd love to! I just didn't expect you to ask me that."
"Well, I'd like to spend more time with you because you're..."
"I am?"
"Interesting."
"Interesting? Huh? Am I?"
"Yes, you are, Ruby. I don't know what, but you surely interests me. Maybe it's the potential I see in you."
"Hee hee..."
Ruby giggled shyly as she scratched the back of her head. The potential, huh? She remembered how Winter told her that she expected Ruby to meet her standards as a leader. And now Winter was telling Ruby how she saw great potential in her!
"So then, where would you like to go?"
Winter asked as she wiped around her mouth after finishing her meal. Ruby took the last bite of her pizza and started to think.
"Anywhere's fine to be honest, if it's with you."
"Really?"
"Yup! I think it'll be fun no matter where we go! Huh, but maybe... we can go to a restaurant?"
"A restaurant?"
"Mmhmm! There's this new restaurant that opened down the streets, and I wanted to go there!"
"Have you not visited the place yet?"
"It's always filled with people. Too many people. Oh wait, then we still can't go even if I'm with you."
Ruby groaned and wiped her face with the napkin.
"It'll be fine. We'll go to the restaurant you mentioned."
"What? Really? We may need to stand in line for a little. We might still not make it in!"
"That is fine. I have my ways, don't worry."
Winter answered and Ruby only tilted her head as she wondered what Winter meant by "her ways".
When she returned to the room, Weiss greeted her with a pile of textbooks and paperwork as usual. And as they finished their work quickly in the room. Ruby started.
"Oh right, Weiss, I'm going to the restaurant that I was telling you about this Saturday!"
"... With Winter?"
"Yup! She asked me to hang out with her. I told her I wanted to go to the restaurant and she said yes!"
"... Huh..."
Weiss hummed and was now in deep thought. Winter asking someone to hang out with her outside of school during the weekends? That did not sound like the Winter she knew.
"In that case,"
Weiss started as she pointed at the line of the textbook where Ruby should highlight at.
"You will go to the movies with me on Sunday."
"Huh? Eh-why?"
"No reasons. Why, do you not want to?"
"No no. Of course not! I'd love to!"
Ruby cheered as she accidentally highlighted the line underneath the line Weiss was pointing at.
"Ack! You dolt! Not that line! Why would you highlight a line with no information at all?!"
"Ah! I'm sorry! Wrong line!"
"Pay attention!"
"But you were the one who broke my concentration!"
"That's my fault!?"
"Of course it is! Now I can't stop thinking about which movie I want to watch!"
"Ugh, this was a mistake."
"Hmph, I know you love me anyway."
"I don't. You dolt."
"Yes, you do."
Yang stared at them with her eyes narrowed for a moment, and said loud enough for the two to hear.
"I don't want to interrupt you two, but I gotta say, you guys sound like some old married couple, y' know."
Yang pointed out and Blake only hummed in an agreement. Weiss started to freak out and yell that they were not an old married couple, and Ruby only tilted her head as if she was thinking of something.
"Oh! Then would it be a date?"
"What?"
"On Sunday! If we're an old married couple, then it'd be a movie date!"
"Wha-what-it is not a date!"
"Hey, Jaune! I'm going on a movie date with Weiss! You jealous?"
Ruby ignored Weiss and yelled towards her dorm room. She yelled loud enough for Jaune to hear her in his room. They soon heard someone drop out of their chair and scream in pain from the other room.
"Ruby, shut up! You're too loud!"
"What? It's true though."
Ruby said as she gave Weiss a playful smile. Weiss, blushing hardly scolded Ruby and told her focus on the work if she didn't want to stay up until two in the morning doing homework. Yang only shook her head and Blake sighed as she continued to read her book.
"So... the Schnees, huh? Do sisters tend to get the same tastes in girls as well?"
Yang said with a laugh, but luckily, neither Weiss nor Ruby heard her say so, but only Blake did.
"If that was the case, you'd have the same taste as Ruby as well."
"Well, we're not fully related, so it's different."
"Whatever you say, Yang."
Blake groaned as she rolled her eyes. She only wanted to read her book in peace, and her teammates wouldn't let her do that. She sighed internally as she was already getting a headache from only thinking about what would happen during the weekends.
A/N. Sorry for the short chapter! I wanted Ruby's date with Winter and Weiss to be on a separate chapter, so this chapter was a little shorter than others.
Also, summer school is starting for me, so I may be updating a bit more slowly until the end of July.
