A/N ~ Sorry for not uploading sooner, it no longer let's me get past the reCAPTCHA on my laptop which is conveniently where I write all of these. It's OK though because I can send the documents to my phone to upload new chapters. Anyway, enough complaining - here's the new chapter! Enjoy! ~ J

CHAPTER TEN

I walk with Uriah to the infirmary and get an icepack from Elain. She just tuts as she hands it to me, but she does it affectionately. She's used to seeing me in here because I am literally the clumsiest Dauntless to ever grace the compound. If you put me and Uriah together it's double trouble. Once, we ended up in there because we ran into each other and gave ourselves concussion.

We head back to the canteen and join our friends at the table. I've barely sat down when Christina turns to me, wrinkling her nose.

"Tris? Why do you smell like dude? Is there something you aren't telling us?" She leans right next to my face and I can almost see the cogs in her brain whirring into ultimate girl mode.

"It's nothing interesting calm down. I took a shower at Uri and Zeke's apartment, but I forgot that all my stuff's still at Four's, so I had to use theirs." I shrug.

She frowns. "No secret boyfriend?"

I laugh, "No secret boyfriend."

"Damn! I was hoping!"

"Keep dreaming."

We laugh and Uriah slides into the seat next to me and passes me a slice of cake.

"Yes! You are my favourite!"

He just smirks at me and points finger guns.

"You know it!"

I roll my eyes and tuck in, easily clearing my plate. I only just realised how hungry I actually am and I'm grateful that someone noticed for me. I feel bad for being so tough on the initiates, so I decide to go and make sure they actually got cake.

I saunter over to the table and drop into the empty seat. I see the initiates tense up and I roll my eyes.

"Jesus Christ, you'd think Eric had shown up from your expressions."

I feel a hand on my shoulder and look up into the steely gaze of non-other than Eric himself. "Speak of the devil."

"Careful Stiff, wouldn't want to be in the ring with me, now would you?"

"Yeah, yeah. You're all talk Coulter."

"You wouldn't have said that when I was your instructor."

"you're still an asshole though." I retort and for a moment we smirk at each other before he walks away.

The thing is with Eric and I is we aren't friends, but we don't hate each other. After initiation, he apologised for throwing Christina over the chasm and much to everyone's surprise he became less of an asshole. He's not really a part of our group but sometimes he'll come to the club in the pit with us or he'll spar with us or something along those lines. I'm definitely still a tiny bit intimidated by him but hell will freeze over before I tell him such. We have a playful banter going on where we basically just insult each other but we all know not to push it too far because I don't really fancy having my head hit against a wall. He's definitely still a massive jerk with a big ego, but his head has deflated just a fraction.

"Guys, lighten up a bit yeah? At least you all took my advice and got some cake." This earns a few laughs.

"But seriously, I may be your instructor but I'm not going to kill you. This is Dauntless!" They cheer and some visibly relax.

"The real reason I'm here, is to tell you that training is off tomorrow and we'll start again on Monday. You can do whatever you want – get a piercing, a tattoo, go shopping or just sit around and eat cake – "

I shrug, "however, if you want to put in some extra training, I'll be in the training room all day so just swing by."

I look up and see Lynn motioning to the transfers. I know she's planning something, so we communicate through our eyes.

Are these the brats?

Yeah.

Great! Which ones the Candor muppet?

I roll my eyes towards Tristan and I see her lift a glass of ice water, grinning evilly. I discreetly nudge DJ and nod her in the right direction. It seems she's the 'Tris' of this initiation group and he's the 'Peter'. I don't think she's smiled since she got here, and she could do with a laugh.

Amity's such a weird place to transfer from. It's an oxymoron. The factions are polar opposites in every single way and that's why transfers are so rare. I hope I'll see her come to do some extra training and so far, she's the only one I really like but I'm also going to encourage her to do something with her friend Kayla. I don't know what I would have done without Christina and Will, and obviously Uriah and Lynn and rest of the gang.

We sneak glances at the unsuspecting boy as the girl with the shaved head appears behind him and dumps the contents on his now sopping curls. I start laughing along with everyone else and his face slowly turns a nice shade beetroot.

"This is my friend Lynn, Lynn – this is the brats." I say waving my arms. Some definitely look scared of Lynn and she smirks at them before saluting and walking back to the line.

"Alright, do me a favour and don't walk yourselves in the chasm between now and two days' time would ya?"

I see Tristan get up angrily, glaring in Lynn's direction. "Oh, and Tristan? Whatever you're planning to do to her – don't. She'll have you on the floor in seconds and you wouldn't want to be embarrassed again would you?"

I leave them with this and make my way back to the apartment to sleep.
