Hello all of my lovely readers! I'm kind of blocked on my other fic, so I'm hoping these one-shots will clear my mind. Hope you enjoy and remember to tell me what you think!:)
"Dude, what are you doing?"
I jump, startled out of my daze. I give Nino a nervous chuckle as I rub my neck, glancing back to what held my attention just moments before. He notices this and smirks.
"You know, I think I remember some wise advice I heard once," Nino teased. "I think it goes… Marinette's never going to fall in love with a statue."
I wince, chuckling again. Nino pats my shoulder, and we both peak out to stare at Marinette. A dopey smile is left on my lips as she laughs with Alya. I look at Nino, about to mention how angelic her laugh is. I am only met by his own dopey smile.
"Dude," I scold, laughing at him. "You're such a hypocrite."
"W-well," he stutters, blushing deeply. "At least she's my girlfriend! I have a right to stalk her."
"Hey!" I say defensively, my own cheeks becoming their own shade of red. "I don't stalk Marinette."
"Uh-huh," Nino says, unconvinced. "Tell that to those pictures on your wall. I still don't know how you got all of those."
"For your information, Alya sent them to me. I didn't even ask for them," I counter. Nino only laughs.
"So you plaster them on your wall?"
"You have pictures of Alya on your wall!"
"She's my girlfriend! It's normal to have pictures of your girlfriend on your wall. It's not normal to have pictures of a girl who isn't your girlfriend on your wall. Honestly, dude, you're kind of creepy."
My blush intensifies, and I hide my face in my hands. Okay, maybe I was just a little creepy and obsessive when it came to Marinette, but who can blame me? She's so smart, funny, brave, confident, beautiful, kind, generous, a good leader… just perfect.
"So, what's your plan, my dude?" Nino asks, turning me away from Marinette.
"Plan?"
"Yeah," Nino says. "You know, to ask out Marinette?"
"Ask her out?!" I exclaim, flailing my arms. "I can't ask her out! She'll laugh in my face! Well, maybe not laugh because she's Marinette and she would never do anything to hurt anybody, but still. She'll reject me, Nino, and I'll die from a broken heart. I want you to give a eulogy at my funeral."
"Dramatic much?" Nino asks, laughing at my rant. "Dude, you have mastered the art of rants. That was almost as great as Marinette's."
I groan as I facepalm, and Alya sneaks up behind Nino. She looks between my burning cheeks and Nino hysterical laughter, eyebrow raised. Marinette came up behind her, looking just as confused, and I had the sudden urge to hide. I was about to flee when Nino grabbed my bicep, glueing me to my spot.
"What's going on here?" Alya asks, hand on her hip.
"Adrien's having some girl troubles," Nino tells her. I glare at him, making a mental note to scold him later. And in front of Marinette! Oh, he's in for it all right.
"Adrien? Girl problems?" Alya asks disbelieving. "I'm sure he has his pick of all the girls in Paris. I mean, I'm sure he could even hook up a date with Marinette, and she's the most wanted girl in the school."
"Alya," the girl in question whined through gritted teeth. "What's that supposed to mean?"
"It's supposed to mean you've said no to every single boy who comes knocking on your door," Alya clarifies. I gulp, the little hope I had of Marinette saying yes to a date with me diminishing. "I mean, I bet every single boy in our grade had and/or has a crush on you, and somehow you're still single."
"You know why," Marinette tells her quietly, but loud enough for me to hear.
"That sounds like Monsieur Agreste over here," Nino says, slinging an arm over my shoulder. "Half the girls in France are swooning over his pictures and he is yet to even go on a single date."
"You know what, Nino," Alya says, a determined gleam in her eye. I glance at Marinette and she looks about as nervous as I feel. "These two need some dating practice. Maybe they keep on saying no to all those who worship the ground they walk on because they have no experience in dating!"
"You're a genius, Alya," Nino says, a little too fake. I squint at the two of them. This whole thing sounds too… rehearsed. "And who better than the two of them?"
Yep, this was totally planned. I glare at Nino. He only smirks at me. I look over to Marinette to see her staring daggers at Alya. Why does she have to look so angry about it? I think. I mean, how bad could a date with me be?
"Great idea, Nino," Alya responds, grinning.
The next thing I know I'm at the Eiffel Tower, earpiece in my ear and Nino hiding in the bushes. I cringe as I remember trying to set him up with Marinette. I guess this is a taste of my own medicine.
"Now, remember," Nino says in my ear. "Marinette should be here any second. Just be yourself, don't overthink it."
"Yeah, yeah," I sigh. "Be myself. How far has that gotten me?" Nino is obviously ignoring that statement as there's silence in my ear.
I see Marinette walking up to me, posture stiff and eyes darting around nervously. Both my body and mind freeze, and it takes all the courage I can muster to resist running away.
"H-hi," I stutter, greeting Marinette.
"W-what's u-up?" she says back, and I can tell she's about as nervous as I am. That makes me feel a little better, knowing I'm not the only one about to die from anxiety.
"So…" I start, looking around. "What do you want to do first." I mentally pump my fist victoriously as I realize I had spoken a stutter-free sentence.
"Umm…" Marinette pauses, turning around to look at a… tree? "How about some ice cream?"
"Sure, ice cream sounds great," I say, smiling. This isn't as bad as I thought it would be.
We follow the clues to André's ice cream cart, and I even managed to get her to laugh at a couple of my jokes. When we find André, he looks very excited to see us together.
"I knew you two would get together one day," he says, already scooping ice cream. Marinette waves her hands around and I choke.
"W-we're not t-together," Marinette assures him, blushing. I nod zealously, confirming her statement.
"Oh," André says, surprised. "What a shame. Blackberry for her hair, peppermint for his eyes. Enjoy, young lovebirds!"
I walk away with the ice cream in hand, blushing at André's last words. We sit on a nearby bench and eat the ice cream in silence. Well, until Nino spoke up.
"Dude!" he practically yells in my ear. I jumped a little, which made Marinette jump. I have an excuse ready but she turned away, looking frustrated and distracted. She mumbles something under her breath, and I take the opportunity to talk to Nino.
"What?" I whisper, turning away from Marinette.
"You need to say something," he says sternly. I roll my eyes toward the bush I suspect he's hiding behind.
"I don't know what to say," I admit.
"Start with a compliment," Nino suggests.
"So… Marinette," I start, deciding whether I should compliment her personality or how she looked. Why is this so hard? She nods at me, distracted. She turns her head and I catch a glimpse of something black in her ear. "Is that an earpiece?"
"What?!" she asks, alarmed. "Uh, no I mean, yes it is. Um… maybe? It wasn't my idea!"
I chuckle, relieved that I wasn't the only one who wasn't doing this on their own. I pull out my earpiece and show it to Marinette. She giggles, and pulls out hers.
"It wasn't mine, either," I tell her, and we both laugh. We set our earpieces on the bench and I stand, offering her my hand.
"What do you say about proving to Alya and Nino we can handle a date on our own?" I ask, and she takes my hand to stand up.
"Sounds good to me."
Bonus Scene
"What do you mean you two are a couple?!" Alya exclaims, mouth agape.
"You confessed your love without my help, dude?" Nino says, looking both hurt with betrayal and proud at the same time.
"He probably could've used it," Marinette giggles. "After we arrived at the bakery he confessed by saying he loafed me. He even went as far as saying that he kneaded my love and he'd be muffin' without it."
