AN: Hello one and all! And let me just say I am thrilled to welcome you all to a story that I'm sure many of you have been looking forward to for a while now ever since I first announced it so long ago in some of my other stories. Which means that I am also very proud to say, welcome at long last, to the first ever, Code Avengers spin-off story!
[louder audience applause]
Yes, yes, it is exciting, but there is one or two things that I feel I should mention before go too much further in. This story, at this time, is being posted at a point when Code Avengers: Cosmic is still holding the status of In-Progress, and even if you're reading it after that story is finished, or even after the point in the series that story technically takes place in, there will still be many details, events, and characters revealed here, not just for the Code Avengers Series, but for a good number of my other stories as well. Don't worry, I'm going to try my best to avoid too many huge spoilers for those stories if at all possible, but if you're really nitpicky and don't want to find out anything until it actually happens or whatever, you should probably stop reading now. I mean, I don't want you to stop reading, because I feel like this story is going to be pretty good, even if it does promise to be one of the shorter ones, but I do feel like I need to give you that heads up, so consider yourself spoiler-warned.
[audience laughter]
...So, are you still here? I'm gonna assume that you're still here, at least just from the fact that you are more than likely still reading this author's note at least, because it's time we got a move on. I'll be going over a few more details as to what all you can expect from this story going forward, but until the ending note, please enjoy the excitement that is about to unfold for our heroes in the Code Avengers universe. Roll that disclaimer, and then take it away, Spidey!
I do not own anything from any of either the Code Lyoko or Marvel franchises, or any other franchise mentioned in this story
Chapter 1: What's What, and It Begins
Okay, so for those of you who somehow don't already know, let's go over all of this again. My name is Peter Parker. I was bitten by a genetically altered super spider at the age of fifteen, and for the last several years, I've been the one and only, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. I'm pretty sure you know the rest from there. Starting with this ever famous quote, said by a man that I think is a lot smarter than all of the rest of us…
"With great power, there must also come great responsibility."
Words to live by, right? I mean, I've been living by them ever since I failed to live up to that lesson. Sure, it still hurts thinking about it, but hey, I've done a lot of good since then. I caught my uncle's killer, and let him go to jail instead of finishing him off myself, fought some bad guys, saved some lives, defeated some supervillains, and let's not forget that I also fell in love and started going out with my childhood best friend. Sadly, that last one didn't last long. There was this whole thing with an alien symbiote that tried to bond with me, gave me a new black suit, and turned me into a king of jerks, to put it nicely, and said girlfriend was not okay with anything I was saying or doing at the time, so we broke up. There's a bunch of other memories from that time that I'd rather not talk or think about, one or two of which may or may not involve a certain cat burglar, but let's not focus on that. No, what's more important is what happened afterwards, namely when I finally got the damn thing off and it turned my former bro, Eddie Brock into one of my greatest enemies. I beat him, but things were never really the same between us after that, and it didn't really make things better between me and ex-girlfriend either. Moving on…
Fast forward to about a year or so later, and we see the birth of a new superhero team, comprised of Earth's mightiest heroes: the Avengers. You've heard of them, right? Then I guess I'll forgo telling you the whole line-up and focus on the one that matters most to this story: one of the youngest of the original team's founding members. You probably know her as Angel Guardian, but me, I know her as Aelita Schaeffer. Of course, to most of the world, she's Aelita Stern, the adopted sister of the other youngest original Avengers founding member, Ulrich, aka Sprint Samurai, and there's a huge story behind that. You see the truth is Aelita and Ulrich are from another dimension, in which they had been secret heroes battling against a demonic artificial intelligence. It looked like they won for a while, but then they found out that their pal XANA (that's the evil AI), had pulled what I'm now calling a Norman Osborn, and faked his death, only to come back several years later and basically destroy everyone and everything they ever loved. Aelita and Ulrich survived, and ended up getting blasted into our universe, where they gained their powers and helped form the Avengers.
So, why am I telling you all of that, well that's what I'm getting to right now, because this is where I come back into the story. Shortly after the Avengers first formed, I met Aelita, we fought some bad guys together, talked a little bit, patrolled the city a few times, and then we started going out. Yeah, Spidey's dating an Avenger. It was pretty cool at the time, and it still is. Honestly though, I'm much more excited about the fact that I'm dating Aelita, period. The whole Avenger status thing doesn't really register to me that much. Moving on though, Aelita and I fell in love, we fought some more bad guys and supervillains, saved the city a bunch of more times, both on our own and together, and then got into a whole bunch of other crazy stuff.
Anyways, I saved the city some more, helped the Avengers save the world a few times, helped Aelita and Ulrich finally put an end to XANA at last (Do not ask about that. It was a very messed-up and trying time for everyone), there was this interdimensional tournament of heroes (Another long story for another time), and everything was pretty great. Then one day, the Avengers broke up because there wasn't really a need for them anymore, until something really big happened that made Iron Man reform the team (Aelita and Ulrich were both still on it, in case you were wondering, but they weren't the youngest members anymore, so hurray for that), and then after stopping this huge plot by Red Skull, there was some kind of weird drama that split the team in half and made Aelita quit for a while, which gave me the chance to introduce her to my own new team of heroes.
Yeah, you heard right. Spider-Man, one of the biggest lone-wolves in the superhero world actually got himself a team. I mean, sure, I had another team at one point, but I think this one is a little more significant, just for the fact that it's made up entirely of other heroes with spider-powers. It would take a while for me to run through the full list of my teammates and their histories, even if some of them are still pretty new and recent additions (I'm mainly talking about these two called Silk and Scarlet Spider), and it's really not important to this story, because not that many of them were really involved in it.
Okay, maybe that's not entirely true. After all, some of the events that happened here wouldn't have been possible without the Web Warriors' help (And yes, that is what we call ourselves. It's a cool name. Don't let anyone tell you differently). Anyways, after the drama with the Avengers started, and a brief adventure with the Web Warriors, I finally got down on one knee, and asked Aelita the big question. I think you all know the one I'm talking about.
"Will you marry me?"
Even now, I still can't believe that she said yes! I mean, come on! How lucky can a guy be, because I'm certain that I'm not usually this lucky. And that's without accounting for the fact that shortly after that, the Avengers somehow managed to resolve the issues between them, officially reformed into one team as opposed to the two teams that they had split into, and not only did Aelita rejoin, but she also made sure that I was allowed back in as well. Said that she was not about to let her future husband's accomplishments go ignored by the Avengers, especially after what happened the day that the reform had happened. In short, everything's going pretty sweet for good old Spidey.
I'd probably have been singing a different tune back then if I knew what was going to come next, because I think I used up a good huge chunk of my good luck from all of that. Why do I say that, you may be asking? Well, it's actually a very simple reason…Okay, I lied. The reason is a lot crazier than most people would believe. Like, it was crazy even for me, and that's saying something! I mean, I never saw it coming that…Oh! Sorry, I'm getting a little ahead of myself. Let me start over from the beginning before I get any of you really lost and confused.
It all started just like any other day, or at least what counted as one for me at the time, and like any other day when Aelita and I decide that we don't want to spend the night in our room at Avengers Tower…
Peter Parker was happily relaxing in bed until he noticed the absence of what had recently become a long-familiar warmth beside him. It was not too hard to figure out where the source of that warmth had gone to, when he both heard and smelled clear signs of breakfast cooking in the apartment's modest kitchen. Getting up out of bed, Peter only paused to get at least half-dressed, and quietly made his way out of the bedroom. Upon entering the main living space of the apartment and glancing into the kitchen, Peter quickly took notice of how his pink-haired fiancé was currently wearing the shirt of one of his old Spidey suits as she fixed them what promised to be a lovely breakfast. As he listened to Aelita humming some tune that he currently could not recognize, Peter then started to notice that his shirt seemed to be the only thing she was currently wearing, and that got him a little more awake very quickly.
With a smile on his face, Peter soon came up from behind Aelita, and wrapped his arms around her waist, much to her happy amusement. "Morning handsome," Aelita giggled, turning to him just enough so that she could give him a quick peck on the lips.
"Morning yourself, beautiful," Peter cooed in return, returning the kiss without a second thought. His hands absently rubbed her stomach for a minute as he took in the sights and smells of the breakfast she was cooking, until he commented, "You know, I don't really know what looks better right now. The meal you're cooking or the sight of you in my Spider-Shirt."
Aelita had a feeling she knew what was likely to follow after hearing that, and quickly turned off the oven to ensure their breakfast would not burn after she had turned to give Peter a little more of her attention. "Oh really," Aelita asked once she was directly facing her future husband, her arms automatically circling his neck upon turning around. "Am I really that attractive to you in your old suit?"
"Well, you certainly look better in it than I ever did," Peter easily quipped with a grin. "Though I think it's mainly because the shirt seems to be the only thing you're wearing right now."
Aelita hummed in acknowledgement of that, and gave him another quick kiss on the lips before leaning in closer, and whispering in his ear, "Flattery will get you many, many places, Mister Parker."
Just like that, Peter lost all confidence in his ability to speak, so he figured it would be better to let his actions speak for him, starting by capturing Aelita's lips with his own in a very passionate kiss. The two then proceeded to start making out with abandon, Aelita allowing Peter to guide her over to their living room couch as she hummed in delight from the blissful sensations and thrills that Peter always managed to deliver unto her, and they likely would have begun going a little further than that, had a certain ringing sound not reached their ears.
"Peter…" Aelita gasped as her fiancé moved to plant feather kisses on her neck, and down to her collarbone and shoulder. "P-Peter…Your webware is ringing…"
Peter let out an annoyed groan over the fact that his and Aelita's quality time was interrupted, and grabbed the wristwatch-like device from the end table so he could answer it as quickly as possible before returning to what they were doing here. "Whoever it is, can you call back later? I'm in the middle of something important," Peter stated as quickly as he could before moving to kiss Aelita's temple.
Aelita could not help but giggle a little at Peter's attempts to get whoever was on the other end of the call to not bother them, but her amusement quickly vanished when the caller answered. "Sorry Boss, but this definitely can't wait," replied the voice of Peter's teammate, Kid Arachnid. "We've finally got a lead on Doc Ock!"
The second they heard that, the mood between them was immediately killed, and Peter immediately sprang up to better secure the red wristwatch device on his wrist while rushing back to their room. Upon getting the device on properly, Peter looked at the screen on it and said, "Kid, are you serious?! Do we finally have something?"
"Yeah, and unfortunately, it's not good news. You've gotta get over to Horizon, on the double!"
"Give me a few minutes to eat breakfast, and I'll be there before you know it," Peter stated, and he then started scrambling to get the rest of his clothes on while grabbing his tech web-shooters.
The minute that the wrist devices were on, Peter activated a specific feature on them that released a series of nanotech devices that formed around him to create his latest, and thus far best spider-suit. The suit itself was no different from his classic red and blue suit, at least in terms of aesthetic, but one could easily tell that it was an improvement given the way that the suit seemed to shimmer in the light like metal, and how the spider-emblem on his chest had a glowing, greenish-blue outline around it. Peter could go on to boast about all of its features, such as how the nanotech it was made of made it so that the suit was resistant to all forms of damage without taking away from his speed, and tapped directly into a personal phone line that his alter-ego's allies could use to contact him with, but right now, there were more important matters to deal with. Matters that required Spider-Man.
The minute his suit was on, he stepped out to see that Aelita had already changed out of his old spider-shirt and into her current Avengers, civilian-style uniform, which was a customized dark pink and purple SHIELD mission suit with a diagonal Lyoko emblem with the Avengers logo inside of it on the right side of her jacket, and was now setting up plates of scrambled eggs and bacon for both of them. When she felt Peter's confused gaze on her, Aelita looked to him and said, "What? I was there when Doc Ock escaped, remember? I've got just as much a right to help out with this as you do."
Peter knew better than to argue with Aelita on this, so he simply nodded and helped her finish setting the table for breakfast as quickly as he could. Just before he sat down, he retracted his mask, and gave Aelita a quick kiss as he promised, "We'll pick up where left off later."
"Yes we will," Aelita agreed, and with that, the superhero couple made quick work of their breakfast so that they could fly off to Horizon University as fast as they could.
A short time later, Spider-Man and Angel Guardian had arrived at the college/tech company, Horizon University, which, unknown to most people, doubled as the secret headquarters of the Web Warriors. Peter had started attending this college after demonstrating his genius to the founder and headmaster, Max Modell, and not long after, Spidey and the other Spider-Heroes started making it a point to save the college/tech company whenever it was in danger. With that in mind, it came as little surprise that Max figured out Peter's secret identity and then offered a special, closed off section of the university's labs for the Web Warriors to use as their base of operations.
It was actually that particular area that Peter and Aelita were had landed inside of and were now meeting up with one of the youngest members of the Web Warriors, one Miles Morales, aka Kid Arachnid. "Okay, Kid, we're here, so what's…" Spidey started to say, only to stop short when he took notice of one particular person that was also present. "Osborn!"
The instant the name left his lips, Peter had aimed his web-shooters at Norman Osborn, with Aelita preparing an energy field shortly after. This was by no means undeserved, mind you. It was not that long ago that Norman Osborn had revealed to the world that he was still alive, and had been slowly becoming the criminal underworld's new Kingpin as the Green Goblin. He only revealed himself a few years ago after a failed, secret invasion by the Skrulls, and that had led to a whole new mess of problems, including, but not limited to turning his son, Harry into a new symbiote-powered being called Anti-Venom, and transforming himself into a massive, near Hulk-sized Goblin monstrosity. It took a long time before Norman was cured again, but as one could plainly see by his now human appearance, it did happen. Though not before a series of events that had led the Web Warriors to discover and recruit their newest member, Scarlet Spider, who happened to be a clone of Spider-Man.
While Norman did not react in any way to Spidey and Aelita's hostile greeting, aside from lowering his head in shame, Kid Arachnid and the other Web Warrior who was currently present did by jumping in the way. "Hey! Whoa! Calm down, you two! It's okay," Ghost-Spider assured them both. "Osborn's here to help."
"Norman Osborn? Help us? You do remember that the whole reason why Doc Ock is now missing and likely planning something even more dangerous than ever before is because of him, right," Aelita questioned.
"Look, I'm not saying that Norman doesn't deserve to pay for his crimes, but he really is here to help," Ghost-Spider promised.
(Okay, I'm cutting in now. Hey guys, Spidey here again, in case you couldn't tell. Don't worry, I'm just gonna make this really quick, for those of you who don't already know. First off, Ghost-Spider, aka my ex-girlfriend and now best friend again, Gwen Stacy. She got her powers during the incident when Normie-kins turned himself into that Goblin monster and Harry into Anti-Venom. I only recently found out it was Gwen under that hood and mask, and let me tell you, it was a huge surprise for both me and Aelita. As for Kid Arachnid, he's Miles Morales. He's only a couple years younger than me and Gwen, but he's got the fighting spirit and drive of a real hero, same as us. He got his powers the same way we did, no surprise there, but unlike us, he's got a couple other powers too. You'll get a better idea of what those are later on in the story, assuming you don't already know a little bit about Miles. Oh yeah, did I forget to mention that Miles and Gwen are going out now? Yeah, her thing with Harry didn't really last after all the Anti-Venom crap.)
Norman then decided to step forward, waving off the concerns of both Kid Arachnid and Ghost-Spider, and said, "I understand how you feel, Spider-Man, and you as well, Angel Guardian, but I assure you, I regret everything I've ever done during my time as the Goblin, some things more than others. If there's even the slightest chance I can atone for my sins, then please, let me do so."
Spider-Man and Aelita just kept watchful eyes on Norman for a few more minutes, but what no one else knew was that Spidey was whispering as quietly as he could, at a level that only Aelita would be able to hear thanks to her superhearing, to see if she was picking up on any signs that he might be lying. Not that he really needed to whisper, as Aelita had already figured he would ask her that question, and gave him a small, minute shake of her head to signal that he was not. Having received that signal, Spider-Man lowered his web-shooters, prompting Aelita to stand down as well, showing that he was willing to hear Norman out before doing anything else.
"One chance, Osborn. If we don't like what we hear, then I'll set Angel Guardian loose on you. Trust me, if you think that Hulk's bad, then you'd better pray that you don't see her angry," Spider-Man warned.
Norman nodded in understanding, but everyone could still see how he shivered a little after he spared a furtive glance in Aelita's direction, allowing him to see her narrowing her eyes at him while she dismissed her energy field much more slowly. He mentally shook it off and cleared his throat so he could proceed with his explanation. "As I'm sure you are all aware, for the last few years, Octavius and I had been working on a secret project to create our own army of Spider-Warriors, using Spider-Man as a basis, both as a means of destroying Spider-Man and later on seizing control of both New York's criminal underworld and the rest of the world."
"And we all remember how one of your first attempts went," Spidey filled in.
"Yes, the creation of Anti-Venom, while promising, did have very…unfortunate consequences. If I had been in my right mind at the time, I probably would have stopped then and there after seeing what had happened to Harry," Norman sighed as he lowered his head in honest sorrow. Not that most of the heroes seemed to buy it for a second, but Norman cast that off as their problem. Albeit a justified one. "Anyways, we then started investigating other methods of creating this Spider-Army, one of which being through cloning. I'm sure you also remember seeing the results of that when you and your Web Warriors found our last hideout and the lab we had been working in at the time."
"Kinda hard to forget, considering the impression that Scarlet Spider made," Aelita nodded. She was of course, referring to how Scarlet Spider just outright attacked her and the Web Warriors after they found him and set him free, though it was not entirely his fault. At the time, Scarlet Spider was still under some kind of mental control, and it was not until later on when Spidey was captured by his new brother that he was able to break free of said control.
"Along with how it only resulted in the capture of one supervillain, I'm sure," Norman felt the need to lightly add on. "What you didn't know, was the true nature of the device that Otto used to escape your custody, because it was part of another method we had in mind for building this Spider-Army. A much less practical one, I might add, but it was still on the table, at least in Otto's mind. I only wish I knew he hadn't dropped the idea a little sooner, because there's no telling what kind of damage he's already wrought."
That set off more warning bells than anything for the four heroes, even if you were to combine the famous sixth sense of all three Spider-Heroes that were currently in the room alone. What made it even more foreboding was how Norman Osborn seemed genuinely afraid, right to the point where they could all hear it in his voice how he was trembling even before they saw his body doing so. Realizing this, Peter almost hesitated to ask for clarification, even though he knew that they would need it either way. "What do you mean by that?"
"I'm sure you are all aware of the multi-verse theory, to some extent, yes," Norman asked. When he only received silence in reply, he decided to take that as reason enough to press on. "Well, in the recent years, Otto began to look more deeply into it, right to the point where he actually found a way to view other dimensions, and what we found in doing so was very amazing, if you'll pardon the slight pun. I can't say for certain that we had looked into all the dimensions that exist in reality, but every one that we did see had one thing in common: they all had at least one Spider-Hero. Spider-Men, Spider-Women, even other forms of Spider-powered beings of many different ages, sizes, and even time periods. They all flashed before our eyes, and Otto was as giddy as a school girl the more he looked at it all. Seeing this, Otto proposed that we find a way to reach these other worlds, take some form of genetic samples from some of the best of these spider-beings, and upon returning here, combine them all together to create the ultimate Spider-Warrior."
"But that's crazy! Just traveling between dimensions carelessly could have serious consequences on reality itself, never mind tampering with anything in other dimensions. Even if Octavius only took the smallest of hair or blood samples from these other Spiders, there's no telling what kind of effect it would have on the cosmic balance that keeps all of reality stable," Aelita insisted, and everyone was inclined to agree with her. After all, out of everyone here, she had the most experience with different dimensions, so they had to believe Aelita knew what she was talking about in this case.
"I agree, and even when I was the Goblin the plan seemed to have a number of holes in it. Far too many for us to make practical use of it, so I had no qualms in telling Otto to forget about pursuing it," Norman nodded once more. "What I did not know was that he had not heeded my orders and continued his research and development on this 'Spider-Verse Project,' as I now know he came to call it. What I thought was a portal device that we had been developing using the notes of a recent hire by the name of Johnathan Ohnn, turned out to be a device that Otto created using the one he made to view other dimensions. A kind miniaturized super collider, if you will."
"Wait, who's this Ohnn guy," Kid Arachnid asked.
"You may know him better as the Spot."
"That guy who creates wormholes while dressing up like a human Dalmatian? You mean he's actually a legitimate scientist," Ghost-Spider asked in disbelief.
"Yes, one who's experiment resulted in an accident that gifted him those powers of his, but that is beside the point," Norman informed them, hoping to get them back on track. "Using that device, Otto escaped to another dimension, likely one where one of the other Spiders exists, and that's why you haven't had any luck in finding him as of late, even with the little cooperation I've been able to provide."
"And if he's in another dimension, he's probably already gathering everything he needs for his Spider-Verse project," Spider-Man finished in dreaded realization. "We've got to find some way to go after him!"
"But how? Reality's massive! How are we supposed to find the one dimension that he could be in, and even then, how will we even know if we've even found our Doc Ock," Ghost-Spider pointed out.
Spidey hated to admit it, but Gwen did have a point. They all knew very well that the multi-verse was far bigger than anything in their own universe could ever hope to be, so saying that trying to find one, specific dimension and hoping that they would be able to find and capture the Doc Ock of their universe was like finding a needle in a haystack was putting it lightly. So lightly that it could be mistaken for a balloon full of helium. Not that it was going to stop him from pursuing any option he could think of, which is why he did not hesitate in turning to his bride-to-be with his next question. "I don't suppose Mister Stark has something lying around up in Avengers Tower or his company that might be able to help?"
"Don't think so," Aelita shrugged in the negative. "We could try calling Doctor Strange, though."
"You're kidding right? That guy's impossible to get a hold of even at the best of times," Miles pointed out.
"If I may be allowed, I did bring a way for you to chase after Octavius without having to worry about any guesswork," Norman interrupted. When the four turned back to him, it was just in time to see him pick up a device on one of the nearby tables, and even before he had displayed it to them, Peter knew that it had not been there the last time he was at Web Warriors HQ. From the look of things, it seemed no bigger than a simple handgun, but judging by the rest of its design, it was most definitely not a weapon at all. "Using some of Ohnn's research, what I could gather from Otto's notes, and admittedly, some added assistance from Mister Modell's facilities here at Horizon, I've been able to build this handheld portal-tracking device. With it, you can follow the tachyon trail that Otto's portals are doubtlessly leaving in their wake, both to whichever dimension he's appeared in, and to the man himself. We've already tuned it to the specific frequency of Otto's tachyon trail, and made sure that it would place you in whichever dimension he may be in at this very moment."
"Are you sure about that? What's to say that we don't just end up in the first dimension he traveled to, or that we end up somewhere long after he's already left," Aelita questioned.
"Max and I have already tested it to be certain. At least, as best as we could. Everything else is all up to both chance and whoever volunteers to go through the portal," Norman explained. When he saw how hesitant the others appeared to be, Norman sighed and said, "Listen, I understand that none of you like me…"
"To put it mildly," Ghost-Spider muttered.
"And that this is a very huge long-shot, but at the moment, this is the best option available to all of us. I would go myself, but after all that I've done as the Goblin, I really don't trust myself to take on a task of this magnitude. That's why I came here, because I know that there's no one more selfless or responsible than the members of the Web Warriors, especially in the case of the original wall-crawler himself. Please, reality itself could very well be at stake."
Hearing that speech and seeing that Norman did have a point in what he said, Spidey let out silent sigh through his nose before he stepped up and took the portal gun from Norman. "Alright Osborn. I'm in," Spider-Man agreed. "I'll go after Octavius and bring him back by the scruff his shirt, tied up in his own metal arms if I have to, before he does something that could destroy the multi-verse as we know it."
"Count me in, too," Aelita stated, much to everyone's surprise. Of course, the only one she was really concerned with addressing on the matter was Spidey. "What? If you really think that I'm letting my future husband go into an insane chase like this alone, then you've got another thing coming. No matter what happens or what we may face, we're in it together."
Even though she could not see his face, Aelita knew that Peter was smiling behind his mask, and that was only made more certain when he wrapped an arm around her waist, pulled her close, and whispered in her ear, "Always, and until the end."
Aelita gave him a quick peck on his masked cheek, and after Peter released her from his hold, he pointed the portal gun in front of them, and activated it, causing a circular, multicolored vortex to materialize before their very eyes. He then ran quick of all of his suit's systems, along with the status of the rest of his equipment, and after finding everything to be satisfactory, he turned to see Aelita pocketing her Avengers ID card, no doubt having just finished informing the rest of her team about the situation they would be going into, and exchanged a nod with her to show that they were both ready.
Of course, he still had one more thing that he had to do before he took the big jump, and he immediately turned to his fellow Spiders in order to take care of it. "Ghost-Spider, I'm leaving you in charge of the Web Warriors while we're gone. Whatever happens while we're gone, be it something related to this insanity or otherwise, make sure you and the others handle it as best as you can." He then spared a small glance at Norman before leaning in and quietly adding, "And if this turns out to be any kind of trap on his part, don't let him take so much as a tip-toe out of here unless it's to go in a prison cell."
"Got it," Ghost-Spider answered, though she was clearly nervous about the idea of leading the team while Peter was away.
"Hey, you've got this, GS. You're already practically second in command, and you seemed to get a better handle on the ways of a web-swinger than I did when I was starting out right from the beginning," Peter assured her, and he instantly saw all of Gwen's nervousness evaporate right after. "Oh, and take care of the city if we don't come back."
Gwen and Miles both knew that he meant a lot more than just when they heard his last order, but at the same time, neither of them was sure that they wanted to carry out the hidden request. You could not blame them though, just about everyone on their team considered Peter's Aunt May to be family to them too, so it was only natural they would all hate getting her upset in any way, shape, or form. They could not refuse either though, because May most definitely deserved to know if anything happened to her nephew, which is why they only nodded in reply to his request.
With all of that done, Spider-Man and Angel Guardian then exchanged one final nod and leaped into the portal, inbound for the unknown in their hunt for Doc Ock. When the portal closed behind them, Norman found himself whispering, "Good luck Spider-Man and Angel Guardian. If not all of reality, then certainly the fate of the Spider-Verse lies with you now."
AN: Phew! Talk about a lot getting unloaded all at once. We start out strong with a bit of Spidey narration to help you get a gauge as to what all happened in the Code Avengers Universe leading up to this point...
Spider-Man: And I'm pretty sure that it's gotten a lot of people to either go check out the Code Avengers series as it is or to start begging you to hurry up with the updates for that story, too.
AN: And a brief look at various other things that happened on Spidey's side of that universe as well. Oh, and while I'm thinking about it, if you can't quite imagine how Spidey's suit looks, I'll make it simple for you: it's the Spider-Armor Mk 4 that he's rocking. So look up an image of that, and you'll know exactly what it looks like. Now onto the matters regarding the plot.
Not gonna lie, this does take a little bit of inspiration from the Spider-Verse storyline that was used in the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon, but quite frankly, I wanted to go with something that seemed a little more down to Earth, or at least as much as it could be with other dimensions and multiversal threats involved, so the comic book version of the Spider-Verse story line, you know, the one with all the Spider-Totems, the Inheritors, and all that other stuff going on, just didn't really click here. If you want something closer to that then (small, slight spoiler alert) wait for the sequel to A Spider's Focus.
While we're on the topic of how Spider-Verse stories play out, let me go ahead and give you guys a run-down of this one is likely going to go. First off, since I know a lot of you are going to ask about this, yes, we are going to see some of the more iconic Spider-Heroes from these kind of adventures (You know, Spider-Man 2099, Spider-Man Noir, and Ultimate Spider-Man {Miles Morales}), but in addition to them, you may see some other familiar Spiders, assuming you've kept up with all my other stories that the Web-Head has appeared in. Pretty exciting, huh? Getting to see various versions of one hero as he appeared in many different stories by one fanfiction writer teaming up together? Well it doesn't stop there.
As I'm sure you noticed, Avenging Spider-Man (That's what I'm planning to have the Code Avengers Spidey be referred to as, just for clarification), has a little company along for the ride: our lovely, leading lady hero from Code Lyoko herself, Aelita the Angel Guardian. Oh, and yes, the two will be getting married later on in the Code Avengers Series, and even get their own place outside of Avengers HQs. Hey, Aelita can't just live in an Avengers headquarters forever, you know. But anyway, Aelita's not going to be the only one who joins up with their universe's respective Spider-Man. You can expect the others to have some friends along for the ride to, be it their love interest in that story, a close confidante/friend, or even a full team that they may be part of in that series' universe. Yeah, I'll bet you're really getting psyched up now, right?
Aelita: Um, can I ask about something that's kind of bothering me? Namely about the whole drama that broke up the Avengers thing that was mentioned at the start?
AN: Don't worry, it's nothing like the whole Civil War stuff that was caused by stupid crap *cough* Sokovia Accords *cough* *cough* Superhero Registration *cough*. It's just a little team disagreement brought on by a series of events that would be typical of any large group of friends that gets more than a little out of hand. That's all I can really say at this time without going too far into detail. Just be glad that it does get cleared up and resolved by the time everything going on here happens.
Spider-Man: What about Miles and Gwen? When do they get powers? I mean, I know you mentioned when it happened for Gwen, but what about Miles?
AN: That may end up being something that kind of happens off-screen, along with the origins for most of the rest of the Web Warriors in this series, but if you're wondering about anything else regarding those two, well, all I can say is that you're going to have to either wait and see, or try your luck with asking me about it in the reviews. If I can answer the question without going into major spoilers, then I'll do my best to do so.
Oh, and slight spoiler for this story, Doc Ock's not the only bad guy that Spidey and Aelita will have to be chasing down, and there is a very strong likelihood that you won't just be seeing the Spider-Heroes from my stories alone.
Aelita: Meaning what?
AN: Sorry, but that's a surprise. At least half of which you'll be finding out come next chapter, which we should really run the preview for now before we risk me giving out every last detail of what will happen either here or in the Code Avengers Series as a whole. So what're you waiting for? Onto the Preview!...
Aelita and Spider-Man arrive in their first stop, and find themselves greeted with a New York that is familiar, yet at the same time very different in more ways than one. It takes little time to find this universe's Spider-Man, but they find him doing a lot more than defending New York, and that he's not only partnered with a redheaded dark knight, but that there's a chance he could become part of a bigger League of heroes. The first stop is filled with unlimited marvels and more next time in…Chapter 2: Spider of Justice.
Yeah, starting strong already! I'm sure many of you already caught on to where Spider-Man and Aelita are heading first. Until then...
Please read and review, and swing on back for next time, fellow true believers!
