Five minutes.

You were out for only five damn minutes.

That's all it took to reach the store from your little house. The batter you'd been whipping up all morning could manage as you went out to fetch one ingredient. Getting the walnuts was no problem, briskly walking home wasn't either.

It was the gore-fest that lay slouched against your door. The figure of a man sat against your door, coating it in crimson red from the lower half down. His head slumped below his shoulders, nearly against his knees, and by all normal means he looked dead. Who could sit in a puddle of blood that big and possibly be alive?

A normal instinct would be to scream maybe, call the police, something along those lines. But thanks to the recent surge in criminal activity these days, you had to wonder if someone did this to him. And more importantly if they were around for your sake.

Every hair on your body arched, paranoid for a quick look around. Nothing but a peaceful day- despite your racing heart. (Which at this point ached in massive anxiety.) Hurriedly you unlocked the front door, wincing as you wrap your arms under his limp ones. Despite being relatively thin looking under his blue coat, the guy weighed a ton. You manage to drag him back inside the house, during which a few pained grunts and wheezes let you know he's actually alive.

It was something to marvel about, but right now, every bone in your body felt threatened. If this guy was seeking help or escape from someone, and ended up at your doorstep, the threat could still be around. Taking a breath, and high on adrenaline, you whip out a baseball bat from the closet and give the property a once over.

There was absolutely nothing but a few chirping birds around, whistling peacefully and watching you curiously. As if this part of town could do no wrong. What, the worst was an occasional speeding ticket around here? Out here, no… Criminal acts just didn't happen. Not impossible, but the last relatively violent thing was a brawl at the bar ten years ago. And that was only because some neighboring spring breakers were madly drunk…and stupid teenagers, of course.

E/C eyes turn back to the man.

You had a bad feeling about this.

But right now, you guessed, the best thing you could do was protect him.

And that's where this mess all started…
