Hey guys! Been a little while but I found more time to write and edit finally. I will say that I have been slacking a bit since I started watching the show Supernatural. I'm about halfway done with it because I've become obsessed. I am one hundred percent a Dean girl. Anyone else? I'll keep this short so you guys can start reading this chapter but just know that from this chapter forwards the plot is finally starting to pick up. The feedback and comments you guys give me really help so the more the merrier! I get my motivation from my readers to continue my stories.

"Blanket?" Annabeth asked.
"Check" Thalia responded.
"Pillows?"
"Check"
"Binoculars?"
"Check"
"Snacks and playing cards?"
"Check"
"Ok am I missing anything at all?" Annabeth asked concernedly, searching around them and trying to think of anything she might have missed.
Thalia rolled her eyes. "I think the only thing you're forgetting is the fact that we should already be halfway there. You worry too much Annie."
Annabeth sighed, grabbing her phone and shoving it in her pocket before getting into Thalia's car through the passenger side. It was nearing ten o'clock at night and it was getting pretty dark outside. Cold winds brushed her skin as she shut the door behind her. She pulled her thin jacket around herself tighter.
With knowledge that it was going to be a cool summer night, Annabeth had changed from her day clothes of mom shorts and an old vintage t-shirt with stripes on it to a pair of baggy mom style jeans and a purple and white windbreaker jacket. Under the jacket she wore a grey t-shirt with the words Duran Duran on it for one of her favorite bands. She paired the look with her signature white converse and let her hair down in a half up half down style using a white scrunchie. Thalia sat next to her in a pair of dark grey skinny jeans and a black jean jacket with a plain black t-shirt underneath. She wore black low top converse and her choppy hair stayed down.
The two best friends were headed to an old abandoned warehouse to watch the yearly Perseid Meteor Shower like they did together every summer. The event was always a highlight to anyone who lived in their area of California. Her and Thalia had been watching it at the same spot every year for the last four years. A couple times Malcom and Lucy had accompanied them but this year they were planning on watching it somewhere else, so it was just the two of them.
Thalia started the car and they began their twenty-minute ride to their location. Annabeth was beyond excited. Meteor showers were one of the coolest things to watch and nothing would ever change her mind. She remembered the very first summer she went to see one. She was so excited that she researched it all day. Thalia had called her a nerd, but she enjoyed looking it up. She knew that the Perseid Meteor Shower was a prolific meteor shower associated with the comet Swift-Tuttle. She also knew that the meteors were called the Perseids because the point from where they could be seen falling lied in the constellation known as Perseus which was one of her favorites.
Once they had been driving for a few minutes Annabeth changed the song playing from Thalia's phone connected to the stereo after her song had ended. Thalia turned towards her, a mock glare on her face.
"If you were anyone else, I would've killed you for touching my music but considering you have pretty good taste I'll let it go." Thalia said whilst focusing her attention back on the main road.
Annabeth laughed, searching for a song to play. Eventually she landed on a song title that seemed perfect for the mood. She hit the play button and waited for the lyrics to sound through the speakers.
[Song Tribute- Shadows of the Night by Pat Benatar]
Thalia smiled as she slowly began to recognize the song Annabeth had chosen. Her best friend had always been pretty good at finding songs that matched whatever activity they were doing or lyrics that matched their attitudes and mood. Of course, they were always 80's songs but she didn't mind.
She watched as the blonde seated next to her tapped her hand against the side of the car door and mouthed the words emitted by Pat Benatar. Thalia would admit that the singer was a pretty good one from the 80's era. She listened to a lot of her music and she thought it was unique. With that in mind, she turned the knob to raise the volume much to Annabeth's pleasure as they both started to sing the lyrics out loud when the chorus came on.
We're running with the shadows of the night
So baby take my hand, it'll be all right
Surrender all your dreams to me tonight
They'll come true in the end
When the guitar solo came on Annabeth lit up with delight. Whenever she heard songs with cool guitar solos it made her want to learn how to play so badly. It was on her bucket list to at least be proficient in guitar playing but she had just never gotten around to it. Thalia knew a few chords but nothing more. The one instrument Annabeth did know how to play was the piano from the short lessons her mom gave her, but she definitely still considered herself a beginner. One of these days she was going to improve her musical abilities but for now she was content with just listening to songs and the background instruments in them.
When the song came to an end Annabeth let Thalia pick the next song and they ended up switching off throughout the whole ride.
Around ten minutes later they made it to the old warehouse. They had no idea what the place had been before it was abandoned but now it served as a common place for teens to spray paint graffiti. It also had a big roof where you could see a clear sky up above, perfect for viewing a meteor shower. The two of them had stumbled upon it randomly one day and now they visited every summer at least once. It was very dark by that point so the two of them had to use the flashlights on their cellphones once they stepped out of the car. Annabeth walked behind Thalia carrying half of the stuff they had brought with them while Thalia carried the other half. They walked for a few minutes before they made it to the rusty ladder behind the building. Slowly but surely, they made it up to the rooftop.
They spread out two large blankets for each of them to sit on and placed the pillows down so that they had some type of cushion to sit on instead of the hard concrete. As soon as they sat down Thalia ripped open a bag of Swedish fish and started devouring them. Annabeth shook her head in dismay.
"Remember to actually save some for the show Thals because I refuse to give you my half." She said warningly. Thalia slowed her eating and offered some to the grey-eyed girl. Annabeth grabbed a couple out of the bag to chew on.
[Song Tribute- Good Thing by Fine Young Cannibals]
They spent the following hour and a half listening to music from their phones and talking about the dumbest things. Occasionally a song would come on that Annabeth simply couldn't resist singing to and Thalia would be forced to join her. They played a variety of card games with Thalia's deck of cards and Annabeth lost every single game of Slap Jack except one.
When they were in the middle of a game the song Good Thing came on and Annabeth smiled instantly. She adored the song. She said that about every song but this one really put her in a good mood. It was just about one of the catchiest tunes she'd ever heard, and her father had shown it to her several years ago. She remembered listening to it on repeat and hearing the memorable piano solo. She couldn't resist belting out the lyrics to one of the verses.
Then one day she came back
I was so happy that I didn't act
Morning came into my room
Caught me dreaming like a fool
Thalia laughed as her friend started bopping her head to the beat. She had to have known it was going to get to the point where mouthing the words to the songs they were playing wasn't going to be enough for Annabeth. She had to admit, it was a very catchy song. The type of beat that you unconsciously tapped your foot to.
There were so many different genres of music in one era of time that she had a hard time keeping up. Annabeth on the other hand seemed to have every song from the 80s memorized whether it be slow or upbeat. She was like a living music store. The blonde was passionate about a lot of different things, but music was at the top of the list for sure. The phrase 'born in the wrong era' described her perfectly. Needless to say, the day Thalia found an old song that Annabeth didn't like from the 80s was the day the world would end.
Due to the obvious distraction of music, Annabeth ended up losing their last game of Slap Jack, but she didn't seem to mind much. Once the song had ended, they checked the time and realized it was nearing one o'clock in the morning. The meteors would be visible to them now. Peak time was usually after midnight, so they made sure to give themselves plenty of time to set up.
[Song Tribute- Eye in the Sky by The Alan Parsons Project]
The two of them searched the sky for any signs of the bright meteors falling. For a few minutes they didn't see anything happening yet. As soon as they were about to start another game of cards Thalia noticed a quick flash across the starry sky.
"Look! I think I just saw something." She said excitedly, pointing in the direction she'd seen it. Another song started playing from Annabeth's phone as she followed Thalia's gaze and gasped the moment she saw another light streak across the sky.
Little by little white lines started appearing above them, soaring across the stars in the blink of an eye. If you looked away for just one second you would miss it. Annabeth's face lit up as she watched the show that you could only see once every summer. It never failed to amaze her. How something so beautiful could occur naturally in their world. She would never get tired of watching it.
While they watched Annabeth heard the faint sound of her phone playing a song that ironically suited the mood once again. The moment was bure bliss until she heard the crinkling of wrapping as Thalia started eating more candy out of one of the bags. She rolled her eyes, turning towards her friend who apparently had a massive sweet tooth all of the sudden.
Annabeth grabbed a few Sour Patch gummies from the other bag they had while she continued to watch the white lines slash across the sky. As she listened to the music play from her phone she sighed longingly, momentarily forgetting all her worries as the scenery and the beat calmed her. Her mind drifted to one of her favorite fantasies.
"God Thals, can you imagine what life must have been like back in the day? Well besides all the negative stuff. Like imagine the music, the crazy outfits, the slang, all of it. So much has changed since then. Sometimes I really wish we could experience it for ourselves, travel back in time to the 80's instead of being told how great it was from adults and movies." Annabeth finished dreamily.
"Sometimes? Don't you wish for that on a daily basis?" The other girl teased.
Annabeth bumped her shoulder as they sat next to each other. "Shut up."
Thalia sighed. "Well I wish it was the beginning of summer instead of August. I mean imagine if it were June 1st. We might have made our corny pact sooner about being productive this summer and had more time to plan fun outings but now we're running out of time."
Annabeth nodded in agreement as her friend smiled sadly. The two of them continued to look up at the meteors falling. They took turns using the pair of binoculars they had brought. Catching the sight up closer was even more amazing. When they checked the time again it was nearing two thirty in the morning and Annabeth knew they should be getting back home. Malcom would be worried about her even though he knew she was responsible enough to take care of herself.
"We should probably head back." Annabeth suggested.
She moved to start collecting their stuff. As she was zipping up the snacks they had brought Thalia turned towards her, pulling the binoculars away from her face that she had been using to look at the sky. Once she did, she noticed something rather…strange.
"Um…Annie?" She said hesitantly, her eyes still focused on one spot.
"Yeah?" The blonde replied, not giving her friend her full attention as she began stacking the playing cards and putting them back in the small box.
"Your uh, necklace it's...kind of…glowing?" Thalia phrased the last word as a question, trying to figure out for herself if she was hallucinating or not. Annabeth stopped short, wondering if she'd heard her correctly.
"What?" She said, looking down at the silver half of a record pendant around her neck.
Sure enough, there was a white circle of light surrounding the object. Annabeth furrowed her brows in confusion before looking up at Thalia. Her expression changed from confusion to surprise when she noticed another light.
"Thals, yours is glowing too…" She breathed, not knowing what to make of the situation.
Thalia grabbed the necklace, unclasping it from her neck and holding the pendant in her hand. The brightness made the silver look shinier than usual and she stared at the object in surprise. Annabeth copied her, taking her necklace off and observing it perplexedly.
The two of them sat there speechless, trying to find any way of understanding how in the world the necklaces were glowing. They were just ordinary necklaces, right? They weren't even worth that much. Annabeth ran through a list of possible explanations in her head but none of them made sense. After a good minute Thalia spoke up.
"Maybe they have batteries that run on a timer?" She suggested.
Annabeth shook her head. "There's no way they make batteries that small, it's just a normal necklace. Not to mention we've been wearing them for days now and they've never glowed so it's not like they're scheduled to go off at a specific time every day."
"Maybe they just glow in the dark?"
"We would have noticed."
"Ok miss know it all then you try to come up with an explanation." Thalia replied.
"I…I don't know." She said dumbly after another minute had passed. For once Annabeth was at a loss for words. She had absolutely no idea why the two necklaces had lit up out of the blue.
"Well that's just great. You know maybe they're cursed. That sales lady put a curse on them and that's why we got them for free. I don't know about you but I'm ready to chuck this thing off the building-" Thalia rambled nervously, gripping the piece of jewelry tightly in her hand and standing up.
"Wait." Annabeth cut in before she could throw it.
She looked down at her necklace calculatingly, running her thumb across the rigid edge where it was supposed to attach to its pair. Thalia stared at her dumbfound.
"Give me your half." The blonde demanded after a second, reaching a hand out to her.
"What?"
"Maybe we just need to join them together and the light will turn off." Annabeth proposed. The idea had come to her out of nowhere but suddenly she felt like it was the right thing to do. She couldn't explain the feeling that washed over her in that moment.
"Are you insane? We need to get rid of these right now-"
"Thalia please. Let me just try it? If I'm wrong, we can chuck them. I promise." She begged.
Thalia sighed, giving in to her friend's ridiculous idea and handing her the other half of the necklace. "Fine but I doubt that's going to do anything. This isn't some supernatural TV show about magic. This is real life."
"You sound like you're saying that more for yourself than to me." Annabeth joked as she took the necklace from her and placed both halves on the ground. Thalia resumed her position of sitting down next to her. She scoffed when the words registered in her head.
"Am not." She argued.
"Here goes nothing." Annabeth said, ignoring her and slowly pushing the two glowing halves together to complete the record. The closer the two halves got the brighter the light started to get. Thalia sucked in a breath and based on the expression from Annabeth's face, she'd noticed too.
A second later the two halves were joined together. As soon as they touched one another the light dimmed until eventually the glowing stopped and the necklaces returned back to normal. Annabeth let out a sigh of relief upon seeing the glow fade.
"See I told you-"
Before she could finish the sentence, blinding light encased them both, swirling around them and making it impossible to see anything but white. Annabeth panicked, looking in every direction to try to make out the concrete flooring or the pillows they were sitting on. It was no use; she couldn't see a single thing.
"Thalia!" She shouted, standing up and trying to feel for where her best friend was.
"Annabeth! Where are you?" She heard a familiar voice shout faintly. It sounded like it was far away but also right in front of her at the same time. She knew how stupid that sounded but there was no other way to explain it.
"I-I don't know. I can't see anything! It's all just-"
Once again, her thoughts were silenced when the light got even brighter if that was possible. Annabeth could no longer keep her eyes open, so she squeezed them shut. She stuck her arms out in front of her, blindly looking for a way to escape whatever the hell was happening.
She felt the wind start picking up, her hair flying behind her as she pulled her jacket tighter around herself. It got stronger with each passing second, forcing her to stumble back into a sea of white. She felt the hard slab of concrete beneath her feet as she skidded backwards. The wind was now in control of her movements, pushing her backwards with immeasurable force. Every time she attempted to open her eyes they were forced shut again. She felt something hard hit the back of her head as she crashed into what she assumed was a cement wall behind her
She barely registered the pain before everything went black.
