"HOW I FAIL TO BE A HERO"
"Ah... I ran out of food"
I said as I stare at the empty fridge in front of me. I sighed and closed the fridge. I turn around and prepare to leave.
I paused on the doorway as I looked back at my small apartment. I glance back at my apartment as I felt like something's wrong. I shrugged as I continue to leave.
I lazily walked to the grocery store with my earphones on. I hummed as I entered the grocery store and immediately take a basket and head towards the frozen section.
I paused as I saw a little girl staring at me. I smiled at her and she smiled brightly back at me. I went back to what I was doing. Afterward, I walk towards the counter as I put my earphones in my pocket.
In the corner of my eyes, I saw the little girl from earlier with her mother. I stare as I heard the door ring, signaling that someone is entering the grocery store, and everyone freezes.
'Ah...shit'
"EVERYONE DOWN! THIS IS A ROBBERY!", a robber shouted as he pointed his gun towards us. I gulped as I looked at the entrance. There's exactly six of them, all with guns in their hand.
I glance as the little girl began to cry, her mother hugging her comfortingly. I, like everyone, began to sit down on the ground. They have guns and looked like they will shoot anytime to anyone.
"GET THE MONEY AND TAKE EVERYTHING THAT IS VALUABLE!", Robber 1, who seems like the boss, instructed his fellow robbers. I put my hands up as one robber began to look at my belongings.
"You're fucking poor, lady", the robber said bluntly to me as he held my phone on his hands. I deadpanned at him.
'Who do you think I am? Daughter of the President?'
I put my hands down as he began to inspect the person beside me.
"Shh... everything's going to be alright, sweetie", I turn to look at the mother trying- and failing- to comfort her daughter, who is still crying.
I sighed as I began to look around me. The robbers wasted no time in doing their job, everyone seems frightened to do anything at this moment. Well, that's what I think so too.
"HE CALLED THE COPS!"
My eyes widen as I looked at the robber, who was pointing at a staff of the grocery store. "Well, shit!", Robber 1 curses, "MOVE QUICKLY! WE'RE GETTING OUT OF HERE!", he instructed, but it's too late.
Sounds of sirens can be heard outside, which made Robber 1 to curse once more. Then he glance at his side and stare for a moment. I follow his gaze to see a little girl.
My eyes widen in realization and I look at the robber in disbelief.
'He fucking wouldn't-!'
He did. He grabbed the little girl from her mother, which makes her cry out for her daughter, and immediately points the gun to her head.
He face the entrance where the cops are and shouts.
"OI COPS! LET US GO OR ELSE THIS LITTLE GIRL WILL HAVE A BULLET IN HER HEAD!"
The mother cried louder as she desperately reaches out for her daughter. However,
"Hey man, that's just a little girl-", a man tried to make reason with the robber. Robber 1 shots the gun to the ceiling, earning screams from hostages.
'He's serious. He's going to shoot the little girl'
"Mama!", the little girl cried out as she tried to reach out to her mother. I took a deep breath to calm my heart and began to look around me for anything that could help the little girl.
"I'M GOING TO COUNT TO THREE!", Robber 1 shouted. I bit my lip as I thought of a crazy idea.
'This is crazy. Shit! shit! shit!'
"ONE!"
I rubbed my sweating hands on my pants as I look intensely at Robber 1.
'I knew somethings off today!'
"TWO!"
I crouch as I prepare myself.
'OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD! I'MGONNADIE!'
"THRE-!"
'FUCK THIS!'
I proceed to tackle the little girl and push out the startled robber away. Of course, I just have to forget one important detail-
BANG!
-all robbers have guns.
"Shit!", I shouted as I felt something hit me on my right shoulder. I landed on the ground while hugging the little girl in my arms. I closed my eyes in the pain as I heard numerous screams in the store.
I looked down at the little girl as I haven't heard a single cry after tackling her. My breath hitched and I froze.
'Of course. A dead little girl can't cry anymore'
I bit my lip as tears began to form in my eyes as I hugged at the little girl tighter.
"Did you save her, missy?", I turn to my side to see Robber 1 looking at me smugly. I did my best to glare at him, my tears clouding my vision.
He points the gun to me and said, "Have fun saving the day, hero?", he taunted. He laughed as he pulls the trigger.
The last thing I saw is the mother crying out and the police still not coming in to save the day.

And that ladies and gentlemen, how I fail to be a hero.
"Do you think death is painful?"
"No, not really. The painful part is thinking of the things you should have done while you were alive"
