A/N: This is a one-shot. ONE. No more chapters after this one. Glad we're all on the same page.
There were days that Jay absolutely hated his job.
Today was one of them.
Everything seemed to go against his favour.
First, he slept through his alarm; then there was a car accident on his way to work that backed up traffic; and he wasn't able to eat breakfast at the station before his first call.
The more practical things never bothered him; the blood, the bodily fluids, aggressive patients trying to punch him in the face. All that was in the daily itinerary. He signed up for things like that. But what he didn't sign up for was the sight of brain matter scattered across a road, or the way a body looked after going through extensive trauma; and to make matters worse, of course there was a deadly respiratory virus out in the world that he was potentially exposed to.
It made the job somewhat more difficult. When arriving at the scene of an emergency, rather than grabbing essential supplies and hurrying towards the scene, he and his partner—Adam Ruzek—were now forced to put on surgical gowns and masks as added personal protective equipment. He had attempted to dress in the passenger seat of the ambulance once, but when Adam hit a particularly deep pothole, Jay was able to feel the bump on his scalp for days afterwards and decided against taking the risk of getting a concussion.
After Jay and Adam had donned the necessary PPE—gloves, gowns, masks, and eye wear—they made their way towards the first scene of the day, a car accident. There was debris scattered from the three car pileup all over the road, the glass crunched under Jay and Adam's boots as they made their way over to the remaining SUV that no paramedics were attending to. They looked to the fire chief that was already on scene who nodded his go ahead, that the scene was safe. "Two patients. One up front, one in the back." The chief mentioned.
"I got the driver." Adam said as he motioned with his head. "You get the back?"
Jay almost rolled his eyes at his partner's remark. The doors on the right side of the vehicle were smashed in meaning Jay would have to get into the vehicle through the left side. The only thing was that the driver's seat was set up further away from the steering wheel, not giving him much space to get to his patient—these were the times he hated being more muscular than slim. "Fine." He huffed out, removing the medical kit that was slung over his shoulder.
Firefighters had already removed both doors on the left side giving Adam easy access to assess his patient, while Jay carefully maneuvered his body into the back of the vehicle. When he looked up, he noticed a forward facing car seat strapped into the right side of the car. The noise from Jay's movements snapped the little boy's attention from looking out the window, over to the stranger climbing into the car.
"Hey buddy." Jay tentatively spoke, noticing tears going down the child's cheeks. "Everything's okay. Don't be scared."
"Driver's unconscious." Adam communicated. "Laceration to the head, possible shoulder dislocation."
"I've got a kid back here." Jay relayed back. "Can you confirm that another ambulance is coming?" When Jay heard Adam over the radio, he turned his attention back to the little boy. "I'm Jay, what's your name?"
"Evan." The boy replied as he started to become unsettled and restless.
"That's a cool name. I need you to be really still, okay? I don't want you to hurt yourself." Jay couldn't see any cuts or obvious fractures but that didn't mean that Evan was in the clear. There could be a wide array of injuries that he could have sustained that weren't visible. The movement in the arms and hands was a good sign though.
"I want Mommy!" Jay turned his head towards the driver and made eye contact with his partner who was bandaging the cut. The female patient was no doubt the mother of this child and he had just witnessed her getting knocked unconscious.
"I know, bud. Once we get out of here, we can see Mommy at the hospital." As Jay began to assess Evan, he could hear that another ambulance had arrived and they were ready to take the driver. "Adam, could you pass me a c collar?" After giving Jay the equipment he needed, Adam let him know that he was going back to the ambulance to grab the backboard and gurney.
"I'm just going to put this around your neck. It'll help to make sure you don't get hurt, okay?"
"Okay." Tears were still making their way down Evan's cheeks and as Jay fastened the collar, he could feel the little boy's cool skin through his gloves.
"Can you swallow your spit? Just like when you drink water." When Jay was satisfied that the collar was the right size, he removed himself from the car to wedge in the backboard. "Wanna get into the passenger seat and help me move him to the board?" Jay asked his partner.
Adam moved into the passenger side of the SUV, his chest pressed against the seat. Jay carefully made his way back into the vehicle and started to unbuckle the car seat fasteners. "His body is cool and he's shivering but I can't see anything broken. I won't know 'til we get him into the bus so lets do this gently." As expected, the second they lifted the boy out of the seat, he erupted in harsh cries. Adam and Jay got him situated on the backboard as quickly as possible and Jay began to back out of the car so he could move the gurney closer. Just when he was at the threshold of the cutoff door, a stray piece of sharp metal from the cut off door broke the skin on his upper arm.
"Fuck!" He exclaimed, looking through the surgical gown.
"What's up?" Adam questioned as he continued to support one side of the backboard.
"Nothing, just got snagged. Let's move." Once Evan was on the gurney and secured with the buckles, Jay and Adam got him into the ambulance.
"Are you sure you're good? I could patch it up real quick?" Adam asked, looking at the deep cut on Jay's arm.
"Nah, I'm fine. I'll get it done at Med. Can you do a vitals check while I get a line started?" Adam started to connect Evan to the various machines while Jay unpackaged a fresh IV. "Alright bud, you're just gonna feel a little poke in your arm so I can give you some medicine."
"I don't want it!" Evan cried, feebly holding his arms towards his body.
"I know, but it'll make you feel so much better." Gently, Jay held Evan's arm down as he tried to find a vein. Once he did, he sterilized the area before inserting the needle, grimacing at the shriek of pain the little boy let out. "It's all done!" Jay reassured as he taped the IV against Evan's arm and threw the needle in the sharps container.
"Vitals are recorded. We should get to Med." Adam said as he stood up and made his way out of the back of the ambulance and towards the driver's seat.
Jay connected some pain medicine to the IV before retrieving a warm blanket, covering the boy's shivering body. "Everything is going to be okay." He said comfortingly as he softly ran his fingers through Evan's hair.
Erin was filling in a chart for one of her patients as she overheard her fellow nurses. They were gathered in a group, taking turns looking at something down the hall. Quickly, she finished up filling in the information, not wanting to miss out on the gossip.
"What are we whispering about?" She asked Maggie as she made her way to the group. She followed the direction in which Maggie pointed and rolled her eyes at the sight they were staring at. It was Will's brother—Jay—and the nurses were openly gawking at him as he removed his surgical gown.
"Mmm, I'd love to strip him of his uniform just like he does with that gown." April mentioned, subtly licking her lips.
"You're married…?" Erin mentioned, although no one paid attention to her statement.
"I'd prefer he keep it on, look at the way his ass stretches against those pants." Denise said.
"All of you are ridiculous." Erin said, walking away from the group. She had no idea what the other ladies saw in him. All the nurses were after him. Jay was deemed as the "hot paramedic" and anytime he came to the ED with a patient, it was almost a catfight for who got to go into the room with him and stand so close together their arms would touch while transferring the patient. Jay was known to be a flirt; he would tease all the women in the ED and was rumoured to go on dates with a few of them. Why would women find a bachelor who sleeps with everyone attractive?!
After Jay had finished removing his PPE, he finally gave the laceration on his arm some attention. It was still slowly oozing blood, some of it had made it down his arm. It definitely needed stitches.
He walked towards the nurse's station, hoping to find his brother at one of the computers. Incidentally, Will came out of a room just as Jay began his search.
"Hey man, what's up?" Will asked his brother before noticing the trail of blood down Jay's arm. "Oh."
"Do you think you could stitch it up real quick? If you don't have time I can find someone else." Jay asked casually. He really didn't want someone else—he wasn't blind to all the female attention he received and sometimes, it made him uncomfortable. Some of those women had no idea what professionalism meant.
"I've got some time." Will looked over to the group of nurses that were still gathered together, he knew what they were talking about, it was all they ever talked about. "Maggie, could we get a room please?"
"Trauma 2 is open. Take as long as you need." Maggie reassured. She watched the brothers make their way to the room before turning around to face the nurses. "And all of you get back to work. We've stared long enough. It's creepy."
"So how'd this happen?" Will asked as he closed the curtain behind him for some privacy before slipping on a pair of gloves. Jay began to remove his uniform shirt and his undershirt, shaking his head when he noticed both were torn. He deposited them into the garbage before sitting on the bed.
"Got snagged by a piece of metal as I was climbing out of a vehicle." Jay said as he inspected his wound further. "How's the kid?"
"Fractured pelvis. He's in surgery now." Will moved the light over towards his brother's arm to check for any debris that could have been lodged in the cut. He cleared it with some saline before holding pressure with a gauze pad. "Could you hold that?" Will grabbed the suture kit and prepared a needle with some lidocaine. After waiting a couple of minutes for the medicine to kick in, Will expertly tied the sutures with a prowess that he attained back when he was a plastic surgeon—it was all still muscle memory. "I'm gonna need an extra pair of hands, give me a second."
Will stood up from the chair and peeked his head around the curtain. He knew all the nurses would jump at the chance of getting to be in close proximity to his brother—so many of them over the years had tried to use him for a set-up.
But Will knew one nurse who wasn't as eager. A devilish smile came over his lips when he remembered this particular nurse was also Jay's biggest crush. All Jay talked about when he was drunk was "Erin this" or "Erin that". Sometimes he wasn't even drunk when he mentioned her. It was as if Erin was the only thing his brother thought about all day.
"Hey Erin." Will called out. She was standing at the desk, facing him as she typed away on the computer. His voice brought her gaze away from the screen, and instead on him. "Can I get an assist with something?"
"Sure." Erin nodded her head, grabbing a pair of gloves herself. She was so focused on putting them on that she didn't notice who the patient was. Until she heard his very audible gasp. When she looked up, sitting on the gurney was a very shirtless—and now very blushy and embarrassed—Jay Halstead.
Hot Paramedic Jay Halstead.
"Could you just pinch the wound at the end so I can close it up?" Will asked, interrupting the staring contest. Erin nodded her head and almost reluctantly made her way towards the bed.
Carefully, she held Jay's arm with her fingertips, allowing Will to stitch it quickly. She was in such close proximity to Jay that she could smell all the scents that made him who he was. His cologne; the smell of his sweat from the job; his shampoo. It intoxicated her. Suddenly, the entire room was filled with him—as were her senses.
She was glad he wasn't making any eye contact, he kept his head down or would occasionally look towards his wound. Her gaze eventually followed his—down his chiseled chest and his rock hard abs—before it settled on the bulge in his pants.
When she realized her thoughts were turning inappropriate, she tried to think of other things.
Like the fact that his ass did look great in his uniform pants.
Erin would never dare to admit it, she had always seen how hot he looked bringing in patients and walking around the ED. However, just being hot wasn't enough for her. Usually the hot ones lacked any ounce of a personality.
But now, being so close to him—close enough that she got to touch him, she started to realize what the other nurses began to see in him. Physically, so to speak.
"Thanks for the help, Erin." Will said, dismissing her as he grabbed a bandage to cover Jay's stitches.
"I think you just saved my life." Jay winked at Erin, a shy smile forming on his lips. Will had to stifle the eye roll.
"I think this is workplace harassment." Will commented further.
"Alright, I need to get back to my job." Erin said, much to Jay's disappointment. "I hope you heal quickly." Jay's eyes followed her out, up until he could no longer see her because of the curtain.
"What the fuck was that for?!" Jay asked Will, almost annoyed. "You could have at least told me that you would bring her. How'd my hair look? And I'm covered in sweat and blood. Do I smell alright? The adrenaline was making me sweat buckets."
"Do you need a tetanus shot?" Will asked, purposely avoiding Jay's rambling to annoy him further.
"No, I don't need a tetanus shot. I got one last year, remember?" Jay shot back. "Where is Adam with my bag? I need a shirt."
"I'm sure no one will be complaining if you walk out without one. It's like Grey's Anatomy out there."
"The only thing that's Grey's Anatomy about this hospital is you and Nat." Jay shot back, noticing the red blush creeping up on his brother's neck. "Exactly my point." He stated further.
As if one cue, Adam knocked on the window and opened the sliding door further. "Here's your bag. You might want to make it quick."
"What's got you smiling so much today?" Adam asked his partner as they made their way back to the station after their fourth call of the day. The day seemed to drag on—nothing exciting. Although that wasn't necessarily a negative thing. The calls were spaced out well, allowing them to catch up on inventory and other tasks around the firehouse.
"What?" Jay asked, being knocked out of his stupor. It took a second for him to realize that Adam had spoken.
"I asked why are you so happy today? Our job isn't necessarily gumdrops and lollipops."
"Oh… Nothing. I'm just in a good mood today." Jay tried to sound natural as he spoke, but he knew his partner of five years would see through the facade.
"Hmm." Adam dragged out. "I was going to guess it was that nurse. What was her name?" A teasing smile formed on Adam's lips. "God you talk about her all the time, how could I forget her name?"
"How do you know about that?!" Jay demanded, his voice rising. "Did Will say something? He was being a dick about it earlier. He must have said something." He huffed.
Adam chuckled before briefly taking his eyes off the road—they were stopped at a red light. "No." He purposely paused, knowing it would agitate Jay. "I saw her coming out of your room when I brought your bag in."
"She was just holding my wound so Will could stitch it. It was nothing."
"Mhmm. It sure lightened your mood though." Adam mentioned, noticing that Jay wasn't in the best frame of mind earlier that day. He could have fun with teasing Jay about it but he realized it probably wasn't the best idea. There was always a limit to ragging on your friends.
Jay knew Adam was right, but he wouldn't dare admit it. His day may have started off as a wreck, but it sure wasn't as terrible as he thought it would be.
Two weeks later…
After Jay got out of the shower, he stared at the scar on his arm in the mirror. The stitches had dissolved but the angry red scar would be there for a couple more weeks before it would fade. It likely wouldn't fade completely, but he wasn't too concerned. It definitely wasn't his first permanent scar.
The sun wasn't up yet, although the sky was starting to lighten in colour. He didn't mind the day shifts, even if it meant getting out of bed at four in the morning, while the world continued to sleep.
Jay carelessly dried his body before wrapping his towel around his waist—stray droplets of water made their way down his body, eventually getting absorbed by the towel. He made his way into his walk-in closet and retrieved his uniform and undergarments.
Once he had finished getting dressed, he grabbed his essentials and his bag before making his way out of the apartment door.
Mentally, he made a list of what he needed to accomplish when he got to work. It was his week to attend to patients and he liked to set up the ambulance in a way that would ensure that he could grab equipment as quickly as possible. It absolutely sucked whenever he only had one hand free and couldn't reach something.
He was sitting on the gurney in the back of the ambulance with a clipboard when the first call came in. Just in time. He thought as he had just finished doing inventory.
"Ambulance 17, person in medical distress." The intercom announced.
Jay made his way out of the ambulance and towards the passenger side. Medical distress was his least favourite call. It could range from someone having difficulty breathing, to someone being in cardiac arrest. The uncertainty always got the adrenaline pumping in his blood.
Jay and Adam had made it to the scene quickly—their lights and sirens aiding in doing so. They grabbed their equipment along with the gurney before making their way into the apartment building. Thankfully, there was an elevator that they could use to get to the sixth floor, where their patient was. Prior to his first shift, Jay never realized how difficult it was to move the bed up and down stairs. Usually they would use the stair chair, but sometimes it wasn't probable to do so.
When they got to the apartment, Adam turned the doorknob, which thankfully was unlocked and allowed them in. "Chicago Fire Department!" He announced as they entered. There was a slight wheezing coming from the bedroom so they made their way over.
"I can hear them." The voice said breathlessly. "Thank you."
As soon as Jay turned the final corner to the bedroom—he was at the head of the gurney, guiding it—his heart began to beat harder.
Sitting on the queen sized bed was Erin Lindsay.
The same Erin Lindsay he had the biggest crush on. God he felt like a teenager—he needed to focus on his job.
He sort of panicked and was only knocked out of his thoughts when he heard Erin attempt to take in another deep breath. The first thing he noticed about her was her flushed and sweaty skin. It was obvious she wasn't getting enough oxygen and it was scaring her.
Adam sat down next to Erin on the bed, coaxing her to take deep breaths while Jay set down the medical kit. He grabbed the oxygen tank from the gurney and opened the medical kit, quickly deciding on a mask rather than the nasal tube.
Jay connected the tubes to the tank and verified the oxygen flow rate before resting the mask over Erin's nose and mouth. "Try to take deeper breaths, it will help relax your heart rate."
Adam had pulled out the laptop and began typing in the pertinent information when he noticed his partner had everything handled on his own. Jay attached the heart rate monitors to Erin's clammy skin and began to list off vitals to Adam.
"What happened Erin?" Adam asked, wanting to know what could have caused the episode.
Erin shook her head as she took in a deep breath. "I don't know." Her heart rate was still high. "I was eating and suddenly I started to feel a bit lightheaded so I came in here to lie down."
"Do you have any known allergies?" Adam continued as he typed.
"No…" Erin continued to breathe heavily as Jay finished his primary assessment.
"We should get to Med. I can get her stable in the bus but we gotta go." Jay didn't want to risk any of Erin's symptoms getting worse—she seemed to be unravelling as they spoke—so he would have prefered to get on the road sooner rather than later. Especially if he needed to intubate. Swiftly, they got Erin situated on the gurney with everything she needed and into the back of the ambulance.
Jay sat down next to Erin before grabbing a few things. "Can I give you some epi?" He asked, needing permission before injecting anything into his patient's body.
Erin had her head resting against the pillow with her eyes closed but opened them and nodded her head yes when he spoke. She watched Jay unpackage the EpiPen before he moved the blanket away from her leg. He pushed the needle into the fleshy part of her thigh and held it for about ten seconds before disposing of it. Next, he let her know that he would start a line, just in case he needed to inject any other medicine.
As Jay focused on finding a vein in Erin's arm, she took a few seconds to admire. Her eyes took in the furrow of his brow as he inserted the needle; the freckles littered to his nose and cheeks; and the way his tongue stuck out between his teeth a little as he finished his task. His uniform was snug across his arms and back and she couldn't help but remember the sight of his abs. It was all she could see whenever she closed her eyes at night before bed.
She had finally admitted to herself that he was incredibly sexy. How had she not seen it before?!
Maybe she had just been too busy or preoccupied with other things, but now the thought of him sounded so appealing. She would never hear the end of it from her coworkers if they knew.
Erin didn't even notice that Jay had finished up and started on another vitals check—he caught her staring and she couldn't help but smile at the slight blush that crept up on his neck and ears.
"So…" Erin started as she removed the mask off her face. "I think you just saved my life," she gasped—the same thing he had said to her just weeks prior.
Jay smirked—if she wasn't sitting, she was sure that smirk would make her knees quiver—before he took the mask from her grasp, resting it back down on her face. "I think that's my line." He recorded the new set of vitals he had obtained before meeting her gaze again. He could feel the anxiety radiating off of her so he wanted to lighten the mood. "You know…" Fuck this is going to be so lame. "I know CPR." He said matter-of-factly. "So it's okay if you're losing your breath because of me." There it is. That was horrible.
"How are you a flirt but so awkward at it?" Erin said, laughing gently.
"I'm not a flirt." He said, enunciating the sentence. "I'm just being myself but people think I flirt. I'm just being nice."
"Does that mean you're just being nice right now?" Erin asked, wanting to chastise herself for asking that question. She couldn't believe she was doing this right now—while she was strapped against a gurney because she could've potentially died from asphyxiation. But then something else came over her—bravery, maybe. "Or does it mean something else?"
Jay knew that she would for sure see him blushing now—if she hadn't noticed already. "Uh…" He had no idea how to reply. "Something else. Definitely." He nodded his head, verifying his words.
"Well if that's the case…" Erin tried her best to lower her tone of voice. "Maybe I'm going to need some mouth-to-mouth."
Jay had noticed her skin wasn't as clammy anymore and her breathing became deeper—the epi was working. The deep voice was definitely her flirting. Similarly, he also deepened his voice. "Well, I'd love to." He saw her eyes light up a bit and he smiled at that. "But too bad we're at Med." As if on cue, Adam opened the back doors up and Erin noticed they were in the ambulance bay. Jay was skilled enough to know how long it would take to each hospital in Chicago along with their various bumps and potholes. He cursed at himself when he felt the last bump right before they got to Med—it couldn't have come at a worse time.
Carefully, they unloaded the gurney and brought her into the hospital. Erin could see all her coworkers openly gawking at her—and then consequently at Jay. April even sent her a thumbs up with a smile.
"Female, 30s. Shortness of breath." Jay listed off to Dr. Choi before helping move Erin to the bed from the gurney. When she was situated, he discreetly sent her a wink that made her heart flutter. As she was connected to the monitors at the hospital, her eyes followed Jay out of the room. He was standing by the desk—wiping down the gurney—and she couldn't help but admire his body some more.
Just as quick as he showed up at her apartment, he left.
Erin couldn't help but think just how fucked she is—she wanted him bad.
"That must have been exciting." Adam said, a large smile on his face as he and Jay doffed their PPE.
"It's just like any other patient." Jay said. "You just gotta be professional, drop them off, and forget about it." He tried to stop the smile from forming on his face, knowing he was anything but professional. His attempts at flirting was evidence of that.
"Yeah, I guess. But I have a feeling you definitely won't be forgetting about her. Do you need to restock on anything?"
"No, I'm good. Let's get out of here." Incidentally, they passed the room in which Erin was being assessed. Jay couldn't help but turn his head to try and get a glimpse of her. Unfortunately for him, the curtains were drawn, giving her privacy. Instead of dwelling on it, Jay pushed the gurney back towards the ambulance, getting back to his job.
This was so wrong.
He shouldn't be doing this.
But as he stood amongst the flowers, he couldn't stop himself from picking up the bouquet of yellow lilies. He paid for them and put them in the passenger seat of the truck, knowing that all eyes would be on him once he entered the hospital.
He wasn't even sure if she'd be there. Will couldn't give him any information due to confidentiality but he now knew where she lived—as creepy as that sounded. Erin probably wouldn't mind him showing up.
Maybe he really shouldn't be doing this.
Too late. He thought. You already bought the flowers.
After parking his truck in the visitor lot at the hospital, Jay made his way into the ED, flowers in hand. He knew it would happen—all the nurses were staring at him the second he made it past the doors, giving him access into the ED. Suddenly, he felt a little bit self-conscious.
Jay was no longer in his uniform, showing off that he was there for more personal reasons. Even if he was there for work, he didn't have a patient with him.
Covertly, he walked by the room he had left her in earlier. It was a good thing he wasn't a cop because he wasn't as sneaky as he hoped he'd be. Erin smiled as she noticed him awkwardly standing outside her room before waving him in.
"Hey." Jay greeted timidly. "Is it okay that I'm here? I can leave if you want." He wanted to place the ball firmly in her court so she wouldn't be uncomfortable with him there.
"It's alright, you can stay." Jay smiled at her answer and closed the curtain behind him, giving them some privacy.
"I got these for you." He extended the hand that held the lilies.
"Jay, they're beautiful. Thank you." Erin said, the harsh hospital light shining against her irises as she stared at him. She still felt too weak to hold them though, and understanding, Jay put them on the table next to her bed.
"How are you feeling? You look a lot better than earlier." He sat down in the lone chair every hospital room seemed to have.
"Breathing is getting easier. Apparently I'm allergic to avocado. I never knew."
"Well it's good that you know that now. Wouldn't want to have another situation like this morning." Jay said, feeling awkward. He actually wouldn't mind another situation like that morning. Obviously without Erin needing an ambulance and all that. But he got to sit so close to her and flirt. It was one of the greatest days of his life.
"I enjoyed some parts of it." Erin said boldly, looking him right in the eye.
"Yeah? So… like the whole mouth-to-mouth thing we talked about earlier?" Jay asked, trying not to blush.
"Among other things…"
"Well, it's that's the case then you wouldn't mind if…?" He didn't know how to ask his question. You wouldn't mind if we make out even though you're low on oxygen?
At least I know how to revive her if something happened. He thought.
"No. Not at all." Erin said quickly, almost excited; she was glad that she was in the right mind to drink a lot of water during the day so that her lips weren't chapped.
Jay got up from his seat, looking her in the eyes for any sign of her changing her mind. When he didn't see any hesitation from her, he slowly bent down and placed a kiss on her lips.
It was as if they were two kids having their first kiss. After a couple of seconds, they both moved away slightly, resting their foreheads against each other. Erin's breathing was a little heavy and she giggled as she made eye contact with him, prompting him to laugh too.
"Maybe you should get some more rest?" Jay proposed, also noticing that she had lost her breath. Maybe she just lost her breath from kissing me. Fuck I hope she doesn't notice that I did. "I can come by when you get discharged? Give you a ride home and stuff." He knew this wasn't the last time he'd see her. They essentially worked in the same place. But he didn't want to wait that long. He wished he could've taken her home that second.
"That's very nice of you." Erin said. "Thank you for the offer." She extended her cell phone to him and he quickly put his number in.
"So, yeah." There's the awkwardness again. "Sleep well I guess? And you should definitely text me. It could help stave off boredom." He hoped he didn't come off as desperate.
Erin chuckled at him a little, finding him shyness endearing. "You've made a very good point. Usually I'm so busy in this place that I don't have time to sit. I kinda understand why patients are always clicking the call button."
When Jay turned to leave, Erin couldn't help but keep the smile on her face. She knew that his presence in her room would have all her colleagues asking questions about it and the thought kind of annoyed her. She knew she would be dodging those questions for as long as possible.
A/N 2: Hey! Thanks for reading. Wow flirting is fucking hard lmao. Again, reminder. ONE SHOT. So leave me some reviews, okay?
