Luffy the Pirate Monkey King!

This is a belated B-Day gift for the future Pirate King.

Chapter 1: The Dawn be the Pirate Monkey King!

-Partys Bar-

"Let's drink guys! To Luffy's guts and our journey!" shouted a certain red-haired straw-hat wearing pirate, causing the other pirates to start horsing around.

"It didn't hurt at all." said a small black-haired child wearing a shirt with the word anchor and the object in question behind it, trying not to whimper with a bandage just below his left eye.

"That's a lie! Don't do such a stupid thing!" Shanks said in a slightly scolding tone.

"It's not a lie! I'm scared of getting hurt, so bring with you the next time you head out! I wanna be a pirate too!" said Luffy.

"Like you could be a pirate! What kind of pirate can't swim! You'd only be a burden if that's the case." said Shanks in a teasing manner.

"I'll be fine as long as I stay on the ship and I'm great at fighting too! I've trained a lot, so punch is as strong as a pistol!" proclaimed Luffy with a punch in the air.

"A pistol? Really?" said Shanks in a bored disbelieving tone.

"What's with that tone!" shouted Luffy in anger.

Behind the two, a few members of the partying crew told Luffy about how great it was to be a pirate and trying to convince Shanks to take him with them. Shanks said that he would, but only if someone stayed in Luffy's place, causing them all to turn around and get back to drinking, much to Luffy ire.

"The main thing is that you're still a kid, I'll think about letting you join us in about a decade." said Shanks.

"Dammit Shanks! I'm not a kid!" replied Luffy.

"Calm down Luffy, here have some Juice." said Shanks in a placating manner placing said drink in front of him.

"Thanks." said Luffy, instantly getting into a chipper mood and drinking the juice.

"Dahahahaha! You really are a kid!" laughed Shanks.

"It was a trick Shanks, that's not fair!" shouted Luffy, walking away from him while muttering.

"Luffy." said an older-looking man with a ponytail, this being Benn Beckman, the first-mate Shanks' crew. He called Luffy over to discuss why his captain wouldn't allow him to join out of concern, rather than to mock him, though Luffy argued against it, which wasn't helped by Shanks' continued teasing. Before they could continue, the lovely owner and bartender of the bar, Makino, came in. She was able to calm him by offering him some food, though Shanks still continued to playfully tease him, much to the child's annoyance, who then asked how long the crew would stick around, the answer being two or three more trips.

Before anything else could happen, one of the doors to the bat was kicked down by a bandit, who proceeded to insult the crew, causing everyone to miss Luffy eating a yellow peach(1). The bandit proceeded to insult the crew and asked for ten barrels of sake. Makino nervously told him that they were out at the moment. Higuma rhetorically asked if the pirates were drinking water. Shanks, in an attempt to pacify him, tried to give him an unopened bottle.

Higuma however, shattered the botter covering Shanks and the area around in sake. He then proceeded to brag about what a big shot he was on the island, with his bounty and that he'd killed 56 people and started to leave. Shanks just ignored him and started cleaning up, much to Higuma's annoyance and shatter more bottles with his sword, saying that since Shanks liked cleaning, he'd now have more to do. He then sheathed his sword and left with his men, calling the other pirates cowards as he left the bar.

Makino immediately went to check on Shanks, who then started laughing, with the rest of the crew doing so soon after, teasing their captain. Though they soon heard Luffy shout.

"Why are you laughing?! Why didn't you fight them?!" said Luffy with an upset look on his face. He then continued. "So what if he had more people with him or they were stronger?! You're not a man or a pirate if you laugh after something like that!" shouted Luffy, who started breathing heavily after. Shanks soon just smiled at him.

"Look, I know how you feel. But it's just some spilled booze, it's nothing worth starting a fight over." said Shanks in a calm tone, in an attempt to placate Luffy, holding his arm to keep him from leaving.

Before they could say anything else they heard a shout, they all turned to see Lucky Roux at the bar with a shocked expression on his face, who had turned to face them, showing an empty box.

"The Monkey Monkey Fruit we took from the enemy is gone! Luffy, did you eat fruit?!" asked Lucky Roux, showing Luffy a picture of a yellow peach with a swirl pattern on it, exactly like the one he ate while the bandits were there.

"Yeah, I thought it was desert. It tasted nasty though." replied a sweating Luffy.

"Dammit Luffy, that was the Monkey Monkey Fruit! It's a Devil Fruit, one of the rarest treasures of the seas! By eating it, you'll now be able to become a monkey and lose the ability to swim and will sink like a hammer!"

"What?! Are you kidding me?!" shouted a freaked out Luffy, who soon calmed down and pointed something out.

"Wait? Aren't I already a Monkey?" said Luffy with a tilted head, causing everyone, besides Makino, to facepalm(2). Shanks proceeded to try and elaborate on what he meant.

-A few days later.-

Luffy was having his face pressed against a well by Higuma, who had returned to the bar just a bit ago, along with his men. He and his men had started to insult Shanks and his crew, much to Luffy's anger. Luffy immediately defended Shanks and started to insult Higuma, to the bandit's annoyance. He had taken Luffy outside and started to beat him up, pushing him down with foot. Makino had immediately left to get the mayor to try and diffuse the situation by begging and offering to pay them. He refused the offer and drew his sword to kill Luffy until they all heard a familiar voice talking.

"So this is why nobody welcomed us at the port. I was wondering what happened." said Shanks as he approached Makino and the mayor.

"Captain!" said Makino as Shanks walked past them to the bandits.

"Hey, aren't the bandits from the other? Luffy! What's going on? I thought you said your punch was as strong as a pistol." teased Shanks in a casual manner, while walking towards the bandits, despite the current situation.

"Shut up!" yelled Luffy while trying to push the bandit's foot away.

"Pirate, why are you still here? You gonna clean up the whole town this time? I suggest you leave before you get. Any closer and you'll get shot, you coward." said Higuma as one of his men pulled a gun and pressed it against Shanks' head, threatening him not to get any closer, causing the bandits to start laughing.

"Now that you've drawn your pistol, are you willing to risk your life on it?" asked Shanks, to the bandit's confusion.

"I'm saying pistols aren't for making threats, they're for taking action." said Shanks, before the bandit could say anything, a gunshot was heard, the bandit having been shot dead by Lucky Roux, to pretty much everyone's shock, except his crewmates.

"You bastards, you killed him! That was a dirty move, you cowards." proclaimed one of the bandits.

"Cowards? Cut the crap, do you think you're dealing with saints or something?" said Benn, as he and the rest of the crew grinned.

"The people you're dealing with are pirates." continued Shanks getting the attention of the bandits.

"Listen up, bandits. You can pour drinks on me, you can throw food at me, you can even spit on me, and I'll just laugh it off. But, no matter the reason, I WON'T FORGIVE ANYONE WHO MESSES WITH MY FRIENDS!" proclaimed Shanks, now having a furious look on his face.

Higuma soon started laughing and mocking the pirates, before ordering his men to kill them. Benn stepped forward to take them on and pulled out his rifle, taking his cigarette out of his mouth and putting the burning end between the eyes of the closest bandit, causing him to fall back screaming in pain. He then, within seconds, took out the rest of the bandits, to Higuma's shock.

"Don't underestimate us, bandit." said Benn as he lit his new cigarette. "If you want to fight us, you should bring at least a warship with you."

As Benn said this, Higuma quickly reached behind his back and pulled out a pistol and aimed it at Shanks and fired. The bullet missed Shanks and hit Makino in the arm, causing her to yell in pain and kneel down, causing everyone to look at her in worry. Higuma soon started to laugh nervously and talked with easily noticed false bravado.

"Ha. Next time I won't miss and the girl will die!" As the bandit said this, he failed to pay attention to Luffy, who had a furious expression on his face and was slowly changing. His clothed ripping as his body slowly began to get bigger, in size, muscle, and fat. His eyes started to change from their normally warm brown to pure red. His nails became claws and his mouth gained fangs. He started to grow black fur around most of his body and grew a tail. His ears became pointed as his mouth stretched out like a wolf's. He started to release a beast-like growl, shifting everyone's attention from Higuma, to himself.

All of their eyes widened at the sight of the 'animal' in front of them, Higuma having the most shocked look of them, instantly turned and pulled the hammer of his pistol back, getting Luffy's attention. He immediately charged at the bandit on all fours, Higuma pulled the trigger, missing out of shock and fear. Before he could do anything else, Luffy jumped onto him and knocked him to the ground, grabbing the bandit's arm and squeezed, causing a loud crack a few seconds later, causing Higuma to scream in pain. Luffy instantly started attacking him, punching and clawing, until he heard his name called.

"Luffy!" yelled Shanks, getting the monkey boy's attention. The red haired pirate sent a slight glare at him and made it seem as if an unknown pressure was trying to crush him. Luffy refused though, as he powered through the pressure and started to charge at Shanks. Just as he was about to reach him, he felt an even stronger force push itself onto him, which was too much for his new body, causing him to black out. Shanks and his crew released a sigh of release as Luffy slowly turned back to normal, only to hear a familiar cocky voice.

"This isn't the end of this! I'll have my revenge on you and that freak of a boy at some point!" a bleeding and bruised Higuma shouted, while he threw down a smoke bomb with his good hand. The pirates ignored him and went to check on Luffy and Makino, the medic of the crew tied a piece of cloth over her injury and took her back to the bar for proper medical treatment. Shanks knelt down and gently cradled a lightly snoring Luffy in his arms, smiling as his young friend seemed to be fine. He went to the bar to have Luffy's injuries taken care of.

"Those bastards will never think to look for me on the ocean." said a panting Higuma as he sat in a random boat, with his arm dripping blood out the side, from when he tried to defend his face from Luffy. As he contemplated getting revenge, things around him seemed to go dark. Looking to see what caused it, his eyes widened in fear as he saw a massive eel-like creature with blood-red eyes looking at him in hunger. As he screamed in absolute terror, the beast quickly surged forward, eating him whole and shattering the boat. The bandit, never to be heard from again.

-A day later.-

Luffy awoke with a gasp, panting heavily as he rose up. He looked around and saw that he was in his room at Partys Bar. He tried to think of what happened yesterday. Hr growled as he remembered the bandit coming back and mocking Shanks and his crew, then insulting them. After that, the leader took him outside to kill him, only for Shanks to intervene and Benn to kick their asses. He heard a gunshot and heard Makino scream in pain, then everything went red, then black.

He groaned as he got out of the bed and went downstairs to the bar(3). He saw Shanks and his crew joking around like normal, until Benn saw him.

"Oi Luffy, you're up!" he shouted, getting the other pirates and Makino's, who had some bandages around her arm, attention on him and they all walked towards him asking how he was doing.

"I'm fine, but are you OK Makino? What happened yesterday? The last thing I remember is Makino getting shot by that stupid bandit, everything went red and I woke up in my bed." said Luffy. Makino told him that she was alright and the injury wasn't as bad as it looked. Shanks, who had sat back down on his seat, started to explain.

"You activated your Devil Fruit power for the first time and went feral." explained the redhead. He went on to elaborate that it wasn't rare for those that ate carnivorous Zoan to go feral if they were younger, especially during times of extreme emotions, like what had happened yesterday. He then told him that he had beat up the bandit, leaving out the more gruesome details. He then started to explain exactly what kind of monkey he was. He then offered himself and his crew to help him learn to control his Devil Fruit power.

Over the next week, the crew taught Luffy how to will himself into his hybrid form and his full form. When Luffy changed into his beast form, he became more aggressive, though by the end of the week he was in control for the most part. Then it became time for the crew to leave the town for good.

"You guys are really leaving this time?" asked Luffy, who had a few changes over the week. He had learned that he preferred his hybrid form, which came with a few changes. He gained a thin layer of fur over his body, except for his chest, hands, feet, and face. His ears sharpened into points, his feet had become hands, and he had gained fangs, claws, a tail that was waving behind him.

"Yep, we've stayed here for a long time, so it's about time for us to head out. You gonna miss us?" said Shanks as he watched his crew load the ship with Luffy.

"Yeah, but I won't ask you guys to take me with you anymore. I've decided to become a pirate on my own." said Luffy in proud, but still slightly sad manner.

"Heh, I wouldn't have taken you, even if you begged! A kid like you could never be a pirate!" said Shanks teasingly, sticking his tongue out at Luffy, causing the kid to frown.

"YES I CAN! When I head out, I'll gather my own crew that's as strong as yours and I'm gonna find the world's greatest treasure, and I'm going to become the Pirate King!" shouted Luffy, causing all of the crew to grin in pride.

"Oh? So you're going to beat us? In that case, I'll leave this hat with you. It's very important to me, so take care of it." said Shanks as he placed said hat on Luffy head, who had started to cry. As he turned and left, he turned back and said to Luffy and said, "Return that hat to me, once you've become a great pirate. This is a promise between men, Luffy."

With that said, he boarded his ship and set off, with the rest of the village arriving and bidding them fond farewells.

-10 Years Later(4)-

Today was the day. Luffy had finally set out on his journey to become the Pirate King. After saying goodbye to the villagers, he had taken his rowboat, filled with a barrel of food and a pipe on his back.

"What weather today is pretty nice for setting sail." said Luffy calmly as he rowed his boat in a random direction. He stopped all of a sudden as he turned his head around and saw the 'Lord of the Coast' rise from the water. Luffy grinned in excitement as the giant beast set its eyes on him.

"Well, if it isn't the local Sea King. You'll be a pretty good test to see how strong I've gotten. Time to see the results of my training" said Luffy as he bent his knees and pulled his right arm back. As the Sea King charged at him, he jumped towards the side of the beast, just avoiding a biting jaw, then shouted, "Kong Pistol!", throwing his fist towards the monster's cheek, causing it to briefly rise from the water. The backlash of the punch sent Luffy back, performing some mid-air flips as he landed in his boat with no trouble.

"Take that you stupid fish!" shouted Luffy in an excited manner. "Now to find myself a crew, I want at least ten people in it, and a Jolly Roger! Alright, let's go! I'm going to become the Pirate King!"

Notes

(1): The peach represents the Peaches of Immortality eaten by Sun Wukong, the Monkey King. The yellow coloring represents a number of variants of him having blonde/golden fur.

(2): You can't deny that Luffy would probably say something like that.

(3): Nobody knows where Luffy lived before moving in with Ace and the bandits, some I'm just assuming that he lived with Makino.

(4): Like Chopper, Luffy prefers being in his hybrid form, fur-wise, he is similar to Super Saiyan 4, only with black fur and a lighter coat. Luffy's build in this is closer to Ace's than his canon one, though he's his canon height. I've always thought his DF was the reason he looked so skinny, despite being so strong. Clothing-wise, he is canon, but has his vest unbuttoned.

Luffy's Bio

Appearance: See Note 4.

Personality: His personality is canon for the most part. However, should his friends be threatened, he'll go into a pseudo-berserker state, in which he will fight in a more ferocious manner.

Clothes: His clothing style is canon, to allow for maximum flexibility. Though he doesn't wear footwear, as it's awkward in his hybrid form.

Fighting: Luffy's fighting style is similar to canon for the most part, though he's learned some actual fighting technique, as he's not immune to blunt attack. He's learned bits of Boxing, Wrestling, Muay Thai, and Judo.

Weapon: The pipe is 5.5 ft, with round caps at the ends, it is held by a cord that goes across Luffy's chest.

Great Ape/Ōzaru Bio

Location: Great Apes are a species that are native to an island in the New World. The island in question is Spring/Summer Island, and is basically a massive jungle.

Physiology: Appearance-wise, they are just like the ones from the Dragon Ball franchise. Their eyes are normally dark brown with a red ring around the iris, however, when they enter their berserker state, their eyes will go fully red.

The main difference is that they don't have ki attacks and their height is determined by how strong they are. The stronger they are, the bigger they are.

The Characters listed below are just approximate height examples, not their actual strength.

Normal size(10 ft): Garp, Admirals, Vice-Admirals

Stronger Size(20 ft): Whitebeard, Big Mom's bigger kids (Katakuri, Oven, etc)

Strongest Size(30 ft): Big Mom and Kaido

Island Leader Size(Silverback/Troop Leader)(50 ft)

Behavior: They are very similar to gorillas, however, they are naturally more aggressive, mainly due to having a love for fighting and combat. They don't fight out of maliciousness, but rather, to form a camaraderie with other troops and become stronger in case of aggressive outsiders.

While non-aggressive for the most part, should they become sufficiently angered(i.e., pissed), they will enter into a berserk state and will not stop until they are defeated or the target of their ire is dead.

Intelligence: While not as smart as humans, they are still more intelligent than normal gorillas, being able to do things like notice patterns, use tools, and how to best use their surroundings to their advantage in a fight. At some point before the series, they were taught sign language.

Diet: Omnivores, very large appetites.

Fighting Prowess: Due to their love of combat, they are naturally skilled fighters, even capable of using improvised weapons, such as branches as clubs and stones as projectiles.

The stronger ones are capable of using basic Haki, while some of the silverbacks are capable of using Conqueror's Haki.
