This is just a fun story to hold us over during the uncertain length of the hiatus until it's safe for our favorite cast to start filming again. I hope you enjoy this story. It might start off slow, but I promise it will pick up. I do not own the rights to these characters, just having a little fun.

Prologue

It was almost Jamie and Eddie's one year wedding anniversary and Jamie had a lot on his mind. Sometimes he still couldn't believe that he finally got to marry his soulmate, and even though the first year of their marriage wasn't ideal, or even fair, he still felt like the luckiest man in the world. He knows how cliche that sounds, but it's true.

After denying their true feelings about each other for so long, and then playing the 'it's a bad idea' game for years, there was a time when he thought he would never get his chance at forever with Eddie and convinced himself that having her as his partner and best friend would be enough. It had to be, but that day two years ago when he almost died turned out to be the best day of his life.

It was eye-opening for both of them. It didn't make them admit their true feelings for each other, that had been done plenty of times before, sometimes subtly, sometimes not so much, but that day two years ago, that day made them finally act on those feelings. That was the day they finally decided that just being best friends and partners on the job wasn't even close to enough. They needed each other in so many more ways. They completed each other and neither of them could go another second pretending that their hearts were content with the way things were.

Some people thought they were crazy for jumping into an engagement so fast, and others figured they'd been sneaking around for years. None of it mattered to them though. The only thing that mattered was that both of them were finally on the same page, and they knew what they wanted. They knew it wouldn't be easy, but they knew every bit of it would be worth it, and whatever life was going to throw at them, the end of 12-David, midnight shifts, judgment and criticism, whatever it was, they were prepared to take a grand-slam caliber swing at it all. And that is exactly what they have done for the last two years. New ranks, new partners, new precincts, new apartment, every bit of it was a battle, but one they fought together.

Now, Eddie's back on days, they get to eat dinner together almost every night, fall asleep together and wake up tangled in each other's arms every morning, and they even play mahjong with the old women in the building once a week. This is what they've held on for. This is when everything falls perfectly into place and they get their happy ever after.

Their anniversary is just a few days away and they have a weekend trip to the Catskills planned. The same cabin they stayed in six months ago. They loved it so much, they decided that is where they wanted to celebrate. Away from the hustle and bustle of New York, and the job. Away from the domestic violence, abandoned babies, kidnappings and murders that they see on a regular basis. Just a weekend alone with no interruptions. A weekend to celebrate the first year of their marriage, and promises of another fifty years together.

And the icing on the cake for Jamie is that his wife is finally ready to start a family. After several conversations in the beginning, which led him to believe Eddie may never be on board with having kids, he worried he would never get the chance to be a father. He had dreamed of having a family with Eddie even before they were a couple. He wanted kids and he wanted them with her. He watched his brother and sister raise his nephews and niece and he wanted that too. He knew he would be a good dad, and he knew Eddie would be a good mother, and he had faith that she would come around eventually. He never did push her, he knew she would have to decide for herself that she wanted to bring a baby into the world, into their family, but he prayed every night that when the time was right, she would want that too. Now she does, and Jamie couldn't be happier.

Even the new surprise addition to the Reagan family has him feeling blessed. His brother Joe was his best friend, and finding out he has a son, Jamie feels like a part of his brother is with him again in the flesh. A part of Joe Reagan is at the dinner table again and Joe Hill reminds him of his brother so much it is scary. He hopes he can form a bond with his new nephew and after he and Eddie get back from their anniversary trip, because that is most important right now, he figures he'll invite him over to their place for dinner, or maybe out for a drink and a game of pool.

There was still something that was bothering him though, and he needed to talk to Eddie about it. She would be home from the gym in a few minutes, and he figured since Mother's Day is also this weekend, now would be the perfect time to bring it up.
