Chapter 4: Goblins attack a slave girl and the truth is revealed.
On the last chapter a week has since the young shield hero Naofumi got a major reality check when it came to the new world and gotten new equipment for himself, after getting it settled in at riyute village in the home of Goblin Slayer's friend's farmhouse, a pretty young red head, cowgirl named Ann, at first naofumi didn't want to intrude on the young woman's house but she and her uncle had insisted, the hero stayed and helped out when needed but most days Naofumi could be found harvesting materials for his shield, feeding it orange balloon demon skin rewarded him the Orange Shield and Red Shield from red balloons, and he discovered the Leaf shield by feeding herbs into the shield allowing him to get skills that increase the quality of herbs from basic to high quality so he has experimenting with plants making medicine that he has been selling to pay back Ann for her hospitality.
Today Goblin slayer and Naofumi are hunting balloons and rabbit monsters in the forest between melromarc and Riyute village to increase Naofumi's levels and to further the development his shield, Naofumi blocks the monster's attacks and Goblin Slayer kills them.
POV Naofumi
'Ok so far we have hunted multiple balloons and rabbits so I should check my level see how much more I need to farm to reach the next level.
Naofumi opens up his status screen and checks how far he has come the past week he has been here

'Huh despite our massive level gap our stats aren't that off from one another, how is that possible does my shield add to my stats or is goblin slayer weak… no he is not, since I met him he has shown me much, I learned how my shield absorbs monster parts, how to expect unknown attacks from behind by looking over every part of the environment, and how to create a smoke bomb that blinds it target, and the truth behind the King and Princess, the night I first stayed at Ann's farm, the Goblin Slayer showed me the truth and thanks to that I learn how much I HATE THAT FUCKING TRASH KING AND BITCH PRINCESS SO MUCH!'
To understand the anger in naofumi lets look back at the first night he spent in the new world and the information Goblin Slayer told him.
Flashback one week ago
POV Naofumi
The young shield hero and Goblin Slayer are currently sitting in the kitchen of the Farmhouse
Naofumi: "What?"
The tone of Goblin Slayer carried no emotion just the cold hard truth.
Goblin Slayer: "I said the princess was gonna frame you for raping her and the king would spread the lie across the kingdom, destroying your reputation and making the people believe the lies of the Three Heroes Church that says the Shield Hero is the Devil."
And after the truth of the princess's plan had been revealed the shield hero could only respond with.
Naofumi: "WHAT?!"
Goblin Slayer: "Ah sorry was I unclear."
The Goblin Slayer bluntness didn't relief the shield hero, only further shocking him.
Naofumi: "NO YOU WERE, BUT… 'inhale'… 'exhale' why would the Princess and King try to do that, they summoned me here to fight the waves and save the kingdom, why would they demonize for no reason."
Goblin Slayer while sympathetic to Naofumi he has to remain strong and show him the truth, he hated to break the innocence of the shield hero further, but he needs to know about the truth and the danger he is in not just from the Goblins hiding in the caves but to the Goblins in human form that are currently plotting in Melromarc.
Goblin Slayer: "The king holds no love for demi-humans and that extends to the shield hero, when the country of Siltvelt was at war with Melromarc, the king had joined the fight against them just to kill as many Demis as possible, he holds the shield hero in same light as demi humans because the shield hero is consider a deity to them for saving them countless times in the past."
The young shield hero couldn't more shocked, confused and angry if he tried.
Naofumi: "So he hates me because of something I never even did, only that I'm connected to Demis he hates me enough to frame me for rape and destroy my reputation."
Goblin Slayer: "The king does hate the shield but this was princess who planned this, thanks to a spy organization called the shadows I was given the information of her treachery and plans for you, the king would believe his daughter regardless of what you say and present, but she is not the mastermind, the church of the three heroes is the root of this evil, they wish to brainwash the masses into believing their lies about the shield hero and Demis."
The Goblin Slayer's words struck a chord in Naofumi's head and he managed to piece together what he believed had happened.
Naofumi: "So let me understand what you're saying… the Princess struck a deal with the church to frame me for a crime I would never commit and in return the church will… I don't know say that Princess Malty is the Queen that God deems she should rule the Country… or something similar I'm Guessing?"
Goblin Slayer: "You are correct, the First Princess lost the right to the Throne of Melromarc long ago when the Queen deemed her unfit to rule because the princess has caused multiple innocent people to be sentenced to the guillotine under the King's authority, the next in line for the throne is The Second Princess, the queen personally raised The Second Princess due to how First princess turned out because how The King raised her ."
While Naofumi processing this he lowers his head to look at the table, He is having issues with figuring out why would The First princess do this, even with the Church's influence the Chances of her being made The Queen are slim
Naofumi: "wait…even with the Church's backing Malty couldn't take the Throne if there is already an heir in the waiting… how…could…she…?"
The words go dead in Naofumi's throat when he imagines what Malty would do in order to become queen, the shield hero turn his head towards Goblin Slayer, who only stares at him in a cold silence that answers the question he was gonna ask.
So, in a low voice the shield hero could only say.
Naofumi: "oh god….she is a monster…."
'No, that Princess isn't just any monster.'
With anger rising in his voice he continues speaking.
Naofumi: "no…. SHE'S A GOBLIN!"
Goblin Slayer: "Correct."
Naofumi: "is the second princess…"
Goblin Slayer: "she is alive and well, the queen has her under her protection in the kingdom of Faubley."
The news calms Naofumi down to the point of relief, but one question still bothers him.
Naofumi: "I believe you Goblin Slayer, but do you have any physical proof of her crimes, I just want to be sure because I don't understand how someone can be so evil."
Goblin slayer nods his head.
Goblin Slayer: " Yes, before me and the priestess left Faubley, the queen gave us this."
Goblin Slayer pulls a white crystal out of his back pouch and holds it up to Naofumi.
Goblin Slayer: " this is called a memory crystal, it is a copy of the original has been modified to view another's memory of an event, it holds a first-hand account of the princess dealings of the church and her plans for your public humiliation and false crime, do you wish for me to play it because it can only be used once."
Naofumi is hesitant to view it, it would show him the truth of first princess's crimes but at the same time it will show how evil these people would be to lie and spread false reports of a crime he would never commit in a million years.
So, with a renewed resolve to fight the shield hero says only.
Naofumi: "Yes."
With that confirmation Goblin Slayer plays the message showing Naofumi the horrible truth, of the princess and her plan, and in doing so Goblin Slayer unknowingly implants into Naofumi's mind the feeling of pure Hatred and Wrath.
Present day
'even after a week of learning the truth the rage I have against the princess and king hasn't let up in the slightest, I thank Goblin Slayer for showing me the truth, I need to get stronger so I can fight the waves and help Goblin Slayer, after everything he has done for me I owe it to him to help him exterminate the Goblins, he put so much on the line to help me, I won't leave until its done.'
While Naofumi is in his head, Goblin Slayer had just finished killing the last balloon demon and turns to look at him.
Goblin Slayer: "Naofumi, I believe we should return home if we continue further it will be midnight by the time we return to the Farm."
Naofumi looks to see the sun is starting to set.
Naofumi: "yes let's head back we have done enough for today."
As naofumi and Goblin Slayer turn around to head back a noise echoes out.
?:AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
the two heroes turn their heads to the sound and then to each other without words being shared they nod and run in the direction of the scream.
After ten minutes the heroes see something in the road and hide behind the trees near the clearing.
Naofumi and Goblin Slayer look to see what it is, they see a horseless carriage with bars like a prison cell and there are six little green monsters one who is wearing armor and a helmet that looks like the leader all laughing and cheering while hacking up two dead guards while a figure that looks like a young girl is currently cowering in the locked carriage.
Naofumi: "Goblin Slayer are those…?"
Goblin Slayer: "Goblins."
Naofumi: "what should we do we can't leave the kid there."
Goblin Slayer thinks how to help he can't use the blinding powder cause the child would be hit as well, so he needs to think of something else.
Goblin Slayer: "I need to you to distract them half of them will attack while the others will watch I'll get behind them in order to sneak attack the ones in back and then finish off the front ones.
Naofumi: "how can you be sure that only half will attack, wont they all attack me at once to overpower me."
Goblin Slayer: "no they will only attack like that when they have the numbers or if the target is too weak, half will attack while the others will try to get the child in the carriage."
Naofumi: "ok I trust you."
Goblin Slayer: "good wait until I'm in position and then come out."
With that the Goblin Slayer creeps away to position the shield hero only looks on in fear for the child as the Goblins start banging on the bars while trying to grab the girl inside the carriage, who is trembling in the back of the carriage.
Naofumi could only lowly growl.
Naofumi: "Damn Goblins!"
POV Goblin Slayer
After 10 minutes Goblin Slayer makes it over to the other side of the clearing hiding behind a bush, the goblins are still trying to open the gate by banging on the lock with a club.
Naofumi: "HEY GOBLINS!"
The goblin horde and the girl all turn their heads to the sound of Naofumi's voice and see the shield hero standing in a clearing by the trees hiding the shield behind his cloak .
Naofumi: "leave the kid alone, and come try your luck with me, see if you can take me down."
Goblins all look at one another until they all start laughing, Naofumi opens his cloaks and holds his shield up and all the goblins stop, one of them points at the shield and speaks like he is frightened, the armored one on the carriage speaks like he is sure of something and then screams at three of them and they attack the shield hero, Naofumi holds his shield up and blocks the Goblins.
Naofumi: "Shit!"
while Naofumi is holding three Goblins at bay the one on the carriage starts smacking the lock with the club harder than before while the two other watch while ready to strike at the hero with sword and spear in their hands.
'good their distracted'
Goblin Slayer creeps behind the sword Goblin because he is the furthest back and grabs at his mouth silencing the Goblin before he slits it throat with his knife then he does the same with the spear Goblin,
'that's two.'
Goblin Slayer picks up the spear and puts it in his belt and heads to the carriage with the armored Goblin leader still trying to open the door until the Goblin sees a shadow covering him, the Goblin Leader turns around and sees the a beast of only pure hate and rage standing over him like a beast, before he can scream the knife of the beast plunges into his throat and falls over dead, Goblin Slayer pulls the spear from his belt and throws it killing one of the Goblins attacking Naofumi, the last two turn to see all their companions dead and a dark shadow of hatred standing in the middle of the carnage.
Goblin Slayer: "that's four."
the last two Goblins cower but before they could flee the Shield hero slams his shield into them sending them flying towards Goblin Slayer who sliced them to ribbons with his sword.
Goblin Slayer: "six."
Naofumi: "all right good work, think they were wanderers."
Goblin Slayer: "maybe, the Goblin with armor must have killed an adventurer and assumed control of the horde, if we didn't kill them they would most likely try to build a nest near here or this was a scouting party for an already established Goblin Nest looking for food and women."
Naofumi: "At least the kid is alright."
Goblin Slayer: "agreed."
Naofumi searches the Guards and finds the keys to the lock and opens it, but the child still sits in the back of the carriage afraid to come closer.
So Naofumi speaks in a comforting voice.
Naofumi: "hey kid the goblins are gone now you don't have to be afraid anymore.
?: (sniff) "the monsters are gone?"
Naofumi: "yes don't worry my name is Naofumi and this Is the Goblin Slayer, the monsters won't hurt you anymore."
?: "you promise."
Naofumi: "I promise, I'm the shield hero I won't let you get hurt."
The child's eyes open wide and looks at Naofumi and says in an uncertain voice
?: " you're the shield hero?"
With a nod of his head Naofumi says boldly to calm her
Naofumi: "yes, my name is Naofumi, what's your."
The ten-year-old girl stands up showing her ragged and torn clothing while revealing her raccoon ears and tail and she says
Raphtalia: "my name is Raphtalia."
Afterword
It been awhile I know, I have had school, work and anxiety keeping me in limbo for a while but now I've finished this and I'll try to update more along with my other stories I just don't have a lot of time right now, I hope you all enjoyed this chapter and like how I decided to introduce Raphtalia into the story I wanted something that shows Naofumi and Goblin Slayer's heroism while still keeping her in the story and don't worry I will have filo in the story as well just wait and see.
And to the people wondering if Goblin Slayer and Company are from another universe they aren't, in this story the world of Goblin Slayer and the Shield hero is one world, it is Primarily the shield hero's world, but elements of Goblin Slayer's world are present like water town and the adventurer's guild.
And yes I will give names to the elven archer, dwarf shaman and the lizardman priest, I can make a list to help you all follow along, I want them to have names so it feels more real and natural, it would be weird for certain characters to have names while others only titles, the only one that won't have a name is Goblin Slayer I couldn't make a name for him to save my life so he is only called the Goblin Slayer.
