Chapter 1 the slayer and the shield

the world is on the brink of Catastrophe, ages ago the waves of calamity had hit humanity bringing forth death, despair and monsters, so the nations of the world had created the four Cardinal weapons, a Sword, a Spear, a Bow and the Shield, they summon champions from other worlds to fight the waves and end the bloodshed, and while the heroes had stopped the waves, the damage the waves caused was done and brought many monsters in the world that still persist to this day and new series of the waves have hit the world seven time already, one of the most dangerous being Goblins, they rape women of all races, multiple like rabbits and cause un-imaginable horror to villages, while goblins are monsters that cause so much evil, they are regarded as minor pests and low level creatures only good for EXP grinding for young adventurers and many have lost their lives and went through torture like something out of hell itself, hope is not lost for one man only called the Goblin Slayer has killed thousands of the beasts across the lands and while he is only level 35 for the low EXP Goblins have, through his efforts and the adventurers guilds across the land, the Goblin race is only a small handful left and is about nearly extinct, that was until the Waves of Calamity had struck again a month ago, bringing forth more monsters and destruction than ever, now the nations must summon the four cardinal heroes again to fight the waves, but our story is not about all four of the heroes but of one, the most important hero and his trusted partner and friend, The Shield Hero and The Goblin Slayer together they are the force that will end the Waves and end the threat of Goblins forever.

But I am getting ahead of myself for our story takes place in a different where a young man named Naofumi iwatani, a 20 year old otaku college student, who during a trip to a library will find a book that will change his life, for the better or worse is up to how one decides to look at it.

POV Naofumi

'I swear the selection of light novels at this library is so pathetic, there all gushy romance stories about some oblivious hero who gets like three to four girls, throwing themselves at him and he doesn't notice at all, I skim my eyes across the rest of the books and I manage to find one that looks interesting, it's called the four cardinal heroes, huh it looks like four heroes are all summoned to another world to fight monsters, basic light novel stuff but the characters look interesting except for the princess that seems like a total Bitch.'

I flip through the pages and I see they have character sheets for the Sword, Bow and Spear and separate character called the "Goblin slayer".

'the Goblin slayer looks cool but where is the shield hero page?'

I turn the page and see its blank, before I can react further the book starts to glow bright as a star, then the next thing I know, I'm laying down on my back with a green light all around me, when I sit up and notice a silver and green shield on my arm then the voice of someone I have no idea who it is speaks up.

"o four saint heroes of old! Please help save our world!"

After the man in robes says that I ask.

"what the hell."

"""is going on?"""

I look behind me see the people who just finished my statement, its three other people who are holding weapons, young blonde boy holding a Bow, a blonde man holding a Spear and a black hair man holding a Sword, looks like their just confused as me, but where are we?

As the young shield hero tries to figure out what has happened to him, lets rewind the clock a bit and look at young silver rank adventurer and his party member, who just returned after a successful goblin hunt in faubrey on behalf of the queen of melromarc.

POV Goblin Slayer

'we must hurry to castle, the shield hero will soon be arriving, and he will be in danger without our help, the king has no love for the shield hero and the country is on the brink of war with stilvelt and shieldfreedien for the treatment of demi-humans already, but to summon the shield hero will cause the countries to go to war, the more humans and other species fight one another the more goblins and other monsters will cause havoc and death to the countries.'

"sir Goblin Slayer, are you sure they will allow us to enter the castle when we arrive at Melromarc?

"yes."

'the queen had ordered me and priestess to attend to the shield hero when we arrive, we need to make the shield hero welcomed and respected, if the king and first princess get their we will lose the shield and the world will be lost to the goblins and waves of calamity.'

"sir Goblin Slayer do you really believe the shield hero will abandon the world if the king makes everyone think he's demon like the three heroes church says?"

"no, but he won't fight for melromarc and that can lead to more problems as the waves increase, more Goblins and monsters will run free and destroy every country, with no one being able to stop them, including the other cardinal heroes."

'the priestess can only look at me in horror with what I said, and she should be scared with what she seen, she knows the Horrors Goblins will bring and the threat of giant monsters roaming unchecked will bring unending catastrophe on the lands.'

"we won't allow the king to have his way, we will join the Shield hero party and help mold him into a true hero, we won't save the world but he will and together we will end the threat of Goblins together, I understand if you want to return to your sect but I must help the shield hero survive.

the priestess shakes off the look of fear and boldly states to Goblin Slayer.

"no, it's important I help, I want to assist the shield hero as much as you Goblin Slayer, I won't abandon him."

"yes, it is important, I need your help showing him the way, we will protect the shield and we will stop the plans of the king."

I grip the shield pendant on my neck and think about the stories of the shield hero my sister would tell me, how he would protect the humans, demi-humans and beastmen of this world from Goblins and other monsters.

'I won't allow the shield to fall to darkness, he is only one that stop the waves and make sure the other heroes don't fall to the lies that King Aultcray will undoubtedly plant they alone can stop the waves without the shield, they have no idea the danger they are all in right now.'

As the Goblin slayer heads to the castle of melomarc to help the shield, he unknowingly changes how this story will continue, he will put events and lives choices of the not only the shield hero but the other heroes as well, he is the rogue game piece not even the gods can predict, he doesn't allow the dice roll and leaves nothing to chance, the world will be saved because of The Goblin Slayer, the trusted knight and follower of the shield hero.

Afterword

I want to create this for how little crossover fics there are of these two AMAZING fantasy series there are, I'm posting this on the Rising of the shield hero fanfic site because it might be overlook if I make a crossover fic, so I want to make this great in respect to fans of both series any ideas will be appreciated and don't worry, I plan to use the rest of Goblin Slayers party down the road and of course I will have Filo so no worries, but expect changes to fights and how the story will flow.
