A/N – The idea for this came to me in the middle of the night… weird. And miraculously, I still remembered it in the morning.

Jumping to Conclusions

Jack pulled up in front of Ianto's building. After a crazy few weeks, the rift was predicted to be quiet for the next 24-48 hours, so Jack had decided to head over to Ianto's flat to spend the night relaxing with the younger man.

He was about to get out of the SUV, when he saw a young woman carrying a shopping bag approach Ianto's door. To his surprise, instead of ringing the bell, she appeared to produce a key and let herself into the flat. Jack sat in the car shocked. It was nearly an hour later when she finally emerged from the flat. Too stunned and hurt, Jack was no longer in the mood for company. He reversed out of the parking spot and headed back to the Hub.

Later that evening he got a call from Ianto. "Thought you were stopping by tonight."

Jack wasn't ready to deal with whatever had happened. "Weevil sighting on the way. I got a bit… distracted."

Ianto's voice carried concern. "Is everything okay? Do you want me to come in?"

"No." The captain responded, sharper than he should have. "It's good. Everything's fine. I'll see you tomorrow morning." He disconnected the call and turned off his mobile before the younger man could respond.

The next morning Jack made himself scarce as the team arrived. He was still brooding over the events of the previous night. Was Ianto moving on? Was he looking for something outside of Torchwood? Did he no longer need Jack?

Finally sitting down at his desk, he noticed a cooling mug of coffee sitting by his computer. Ianto was nowhere to be seen, so he must be in the archives. The coffee was still warm enough to drink so it couldn't have been left there too long ago.

It was nearly lunchtime when Ianto emerged from the lower levels. He worked his way across the main level collecting the morning coffee mugs and taking lunch orders.

Finally reaching Jack's office, Ianto smiled as he took the empty much from the desk. "It's Chinese today, sir. Did you want your usual?"

Jack bristled at the 'sir.'

As the younger man turned to leave the office, Jack spoke up. "Ianto, could you close the door and sit down. We need to talk."

A look of confusion crossed Ianto's face, followed by realization and an eyeroll. "Really Jack? You're the one who skipped out on last night. Let me just place the lunch order before the natives start getting restless. "He nodded to the main area where the rest of the team was still working. "Then I'll be right back." He added with a wink.

The feelings of hurt returned to Jack. Ianto seemed to have no remorse for the previous evening.

"Wait, Ianto." Jack said as Ianto, started through the door. "We need to talk now. It's about last night."

Concern showed on the younger man's face as he closed the door and took the chair across from Jack. "Are you really okay? Did… something… happen with the weevil last night?"

The hurt was turning to anger. Was Ianto just going to pretend nothing happened last night? "Cut the crap Ianto. I thought there was something between us. Are you just walking away?"

Ianto started at Jack as if he had been possessed by an alien. "What the hell are you talking about, Jack?"

Jack slammed his palms on the desk. "I saw her, Ianto!"

"You saw who? Honestly, Jack, I have no idea what you're talking about."

"I saw her last night! She brought you groceries. She had a key to your flat!" The captain practically growled.

To Jack's satisfaction, recognition finally crossed the Welshman's face. But instead of shame or embarrassment, or even apology, Ianto broke out into raucous laughter.

"You thought… you thought she was…god Jack, jealousy doesn't suit you." Ianto managed to get himself under control before continuing. "Jesus, Jack. Emily is my housekeeper."

Jack was stunned. "Your what?"

"My housekeeper. I'm hardly ever home and I got tired of spending my precious time off doing cleaning, laundry, and throwing out spoiled food." Ianto wiped the tears of laughter still streaming from his eyes. "She stops by once a week to clean, do laundry and do any shopping."

Jack was still in shock. Embarrassment was quickly replacing the anger. "Your housekeeper? So, she's not… you're not…"

Ianto stood up and walked around the desk to stand behind Jack's chair. He leaned over putting his arms around the captain's shoulders.

"Never." He whispered, his lips against the older man's ear.

Standing up again, he pulled away, grabbed Jack's mug again and started to move away towards the door. "Besides, I'm sure she suspects that she doesn't stand a chance. She does do my laundry and empty my trash, after all." He said with a wink.

Jack grinned. "You are still coming back after you call in the food order, right?"

Ianto stopped in the doorway. "Back in ten minutes… and counting."

End

A/N – I always love when (usually) Jack jumps to conclusions because neither one of them will talk to each other about things.

Reviews are love.
