Scott was in school, playing basketball when it happened. He was leaping to catch the ball, eye level with the thing, when a sizzling hot light emitted from his eyes and burned the ball to ash. He tumbled back to earth, all the other, bigger boys pointing and staring. Scott closed his eyes and the burning feeling behind them stopped. He spent the rest of his school day in the nurse's office with his eyes closed and a sweating brow. When the bell rang to signal the end of the day, Scott heard heavy boots on the soft carpet. It was almost inaudible. Almost. "Hello Scott," It was a Russian voice. Male. "My name is Mister Rasputin. I am a maths and geography teacher at Xavier's School For Gifted Youngsters. Your head wants you transferred there after the... incident at the basketball court."
"You mean when the whole school figured out that I was a mutant? You want me to come to a special school because I'm a freak? That it?" Scott asked, bitterness lacing his voice. Mister Rasputin sighed, waited a moment before replying. "Being a mutant isn't a curse Scott. I think you should open your eyes. For some of us, it's a gift.

"Yeah but I can't, can I? I open my eyes and you get burned in half. It's not a gift Mister Rasputin. It is a curse." He snapped. Mister Rasputin exhaled loudly and paused. "Xavier made me bring these for you. You're gonna put them on, open your eyes and we're gonna walk outta here. K?" He dropped something into Scott's hands that felt oddly like sunglasses. He put them on and opened his eyes. They were tinted dark. Mister Rasputin was big, easily two meters tall and built like he lived his whole life in a gym. "Geography teacher, huh?" Scott asked smugly. Mister Rasputin shook his head and led him out of the building, other students shrunk away from the goliath and his pet freak. The pair got in a big, black Land Rover that drove them away from the school and into the suburban area of New York. They stopped outside of Scott's little house and he gasped. "How do you know where I live?" Mister Rasputin shook his head slowly. "Play along with the cover story. You're exceeding in your studies, and we're moving you to a school for more advanced kids. Play it cool and your mom needn't know that you're a mutant. Xavier's getting her to sign the paperwork now.

About two hours later, Scott was taken to Xavier's school. There were two other teens with him when he was taken to the reception. There was a boy with spiky ginger hair and a mean look on his face and there was a girl brown hair that fell halfway down her back. There was a streak of white in her hair that stood out. The girl was wearing long, velvet, bottle green gloves. Scott stuck his hand out to the oddly dressed red head. The boy raised an eyebrow that rocketed into his fringe. He took the hand. "Name's Remy LeBeau. You?"
"I'm Scott Summers."
The girl nodded, "I'm Anna. Anna Marie."
