AN: bluelioness31 asked for Shinichi/Kazuha for my 10yr in fandom prompts. I honestly couldn't think of a way to get them together that wasn't super OOC unless it was a poly situation so... hope you're ok with background polyamory?

*o*o*

Shinichi sipped coffee, enjoying the quiet morning of a day off to catch up on a book. In the rest of the house, the soft sound of the guest door closing announced one of his guests were up and moving about. A few minutes later, Kazuha padded into the kitchen, her hair still damp from a morning shower. Shinichi nodded to her and twitched his mug toward the mostly full coffee pot.

Kazuha helped herself, spoon clinking quietly as she fixed the coffee to her preferences.

"Heiji's taking Ran on a date tonight," Kazuha said into the quiet.

"Yeah, Ran and Heiji talked to me about that," Shinichi said. He glanced over his shoulder. "Is it bothering you?"

"If it was anyone but Ran, it would," Kazuha said, sitting next to Shinichi. She shook her head. "But it's not like I can feel weird about her. She's great."

"And you're also dating her too," Shinichi said with a smirk of understanding.

"They're really pretty together," Kazuha mumbled, flushing. "Like really pretty so I gotta say it's kinda a fantasy."

"Agreed." Shinichi kind of had tentative hopes of them all spending some intimate times together, and from the pink in Kazuha's cheeks, she had the same thought that it was a real possibility now that Ran and Heiji were going on a date with just each other. "If this is about the possibility of threesomes…"

"No!" Kazuha went redder and smacked him on the arm. Shinichi grinned. Kazuha smacked him again. "It'll be hot if it happens but no! I just had an idea."

"Oh, and what's that?" Shinichi asked, closing his book.

"Okay," Kazuha said into the rim of her mug. "So I've known Ran for, what, five years now?"

"Maybe a bit longer."

"Yeah. And I've been datin' her for a year-ish. But."

Shinichi lifted a brow, waiting as she hesitated, face getting pink again. "Is something wrong with dating Ran?"

"NO!" Kazuha sputtered. "No. Ran's amazing, like I said. So's Heiji even if he's an idiot a lotta the time. No, just, Ya've been datin' Ran two and a half years, yeah? And Heiji as long as I've been dating Ran." Since they'd made the arrangement they currently had at the same time. "And before that Heiji talked my ear off about ya, but you always had a case and I didn't meet ya until after Ran started dating ya."

"And?"

"I realized I can count on one hand the number of times the two of us've talked alone."

Shinichi nodded slowly. Shinichi was Heiji's friend and lover, and Ran's boyfriend. When Kazuha was around, usually she was part of the group. His lovers' lover. Ran visited her the way Shinichi visited Heiji or vice versa, but on the whole they hadn't really had much reason to spend time together. Unlike Heiji and Ran who got to know each other back when Shinichi was Conan. "So, what's your idea?"

Kazuha fiddled with her mug. "Well, while Heiji and Ran're on a date, I figured maybe we could go on one too."

"A date. Us."

Kazuha's face was deep red, the corner of her lip trapped in her teeth. "I mean ya might not be inta me, but it's not like I haven't heard a hella lot about you. And yer not bad on the eyes. At the very least it'd be good to get ta know ya more…"

Shinichi blinked. Kazuha's hair looked different down. It drew the eye to the curve of her neck and where her collarbone peeked from her v-neck shirt. Shinichi never tried to look at her for attractive points, but he could admit that she was pretty. He liked athletic, competent people and she was both those things. And she was someone both his lovers loved. She was loyal and protective. Kazuha had a jealous streak, but strangely that had calmed a lot after she started dating Heiji, and calmed even more after starting to date Ran. If he had to guess, she had been insecure and having proof that she was loved in return had gone a long way in erasing that insecurity.

"You know, I was really surprised when you agreed to let me date Heiji," Shinichi said.

Kazuha frowned at the change in topic but shrugged. "I mean ya weren't another girl. He likes guys too and I can't be that."

"You were so worried when Heiji first met me that I was going to steal him away," Shinichi said.

Kazuha winced. "Yeah, that was… yeah." She rubbed the back of her head and took a swallow of coffee. "But again it was less've a threat when ya turned out to be a guy. Ya know Heiji and me back then. Hot and cold at each other. I worried he'd go out and find someone he liked more. And he liked you a lot." She snorts. "Still does."

Shinichi snickered. Heiji had never been very subtle. "But you're okay with Ran now," he pointed out.

"Okay, but she's Ran." Kazuha said. "She's not gonna steal him, just…" Kazuha waved a hand. "I know sharing with either of them already works."

"That's a good point." Shinichi hummed and finished his coffee. "I feel the same way about trusting Heiji and Ran with each other. We already know we can love more than one person and make it work."

"And they're pretty together."

"Yes." They grinned at each other. Shinichi drummed a finger against his empty mug, considering. Kazuha met his gaze head on, not intimidated at all. Why would she be? She'd seen him be an idiot around Ran and Heiji, and his brain was hardly going to scare her off since she was already dating one detective. And Shinichi did find confidence attractive too. "You know what, sure. Let's try this."

Kazuha's nerves melted away into a bright smile. "Yeah?"

"Why not?" Shinichi shrugged.

Kazuha set her mug down and leaned closer. "So. Can I kiss ya now?"

"We should probably talk to Ran and Heiji first."

"Actually…" Kazuha smiled shyly. "I kinda already brought the topic up before I talked ta you. I got the okay."

"Oh?" Shinichi's eyes flicked to her lips, steadily getting closer.

"Yeah. So…?"

Shinichi tilted his head and met her halfway. She kissed a bit like Heiji, which made sense since they'd figured out kissing together. Shinichi let her control the kiss, content to just feel the soft pressure. Kazuha pulled back a bit, just enough to meet his eyes, waiting for a response. Shinichi pulled her back in, tasting her sweetened coffee on her tongue and her shower-damp hair against his palm.

When she pulled away the next pause, he let her go, licking his lips to chase the feeling.

"Well," Kazuha said, a bit breathless. "Well."

Shinich laughed. Kazuha elbowed him.

"Shush. That was a good kiss."

"It was," Shinichi agreed, grinning. "So. A date."

"Yes, a date." Kazuha huffed. "If ya always kiss like that, yer not completely hopeless."

"Excuse me? Who asked me out here?" Shinichi was well acquainted to Kazuha's difficulty in expressing attraction at least so he wasn't actually offended. It was funny to see her bluster a moment though. "Relax, it's fine. You're not too bad either. What kind of date did you have in mind?"

"There's an exhibit on the formation of the modern police system at the history museum. Would ya be interested in that?"

"I would, actually." Shinichi probably knew a lot of it, but it was still interesting, and he was sure to learn something. Plus Kazuha had an interest in history and law enforcement too. A good blending of their interests.

"Great." Kazuha smiled, triumphant that she'd picked the right activity. "Cuz my only other thought was the festival Ran 'nd Heiji are going to and I don't want ta just copy them."

"…You know, if this works out, that leaves some interesting options in our future."

"We already go on double dates," Kazuha said.

Shinichi raised an eye brow and smiled, waiting.

Kazuha connected the dots and made a strangled sound. "Get yer head out of the gutter!"

Shinichi laughed.

"Yer terrible."

"You're into it."

"Well, yeah. Still."

"One museum date it is," Shinichi said, standing up. He'd need to actually get dressed for going out today if he was going on a date. He caught her lips in one more kiss. He liked how she kissed back like it was a challenge. Yeah, this could probably work. Shinichi was all for blurring the relationship lines in their group a little more.
