Persephone sticks the tip of her tongue out as she adjusts the white veil on my head. "This was my veil," she says, "when I married."

I blush. "Really?"

"Yep. You wear it better." She steps back and looks at me. "Mh, that boy is gonna love you!"

I look at the mirror and can't help but smile. My eyes trace the white dress I wear. It is silky and smooth and fits me well. Persephone picked it out for me and had it tailored to fit. I do hope Orpheus thinks I look pretty.

Persephone looks me over. "I think you're ready, Songbird. Take your flowers and get your head on straight before the music starts, aye?"

I nod. "Yes. I'm ready."

"Knock 'em dead." She hands me the assortment of all sorts of flowers before leaving the room to join the guests.

I look out the window of the big mansion. This is Hades and Persephone's new home. Hades had a big and beautiful garden planted for his wife and she persuaded him to let us use it for our wedding. I can make out Orpheus's shape, rocking back and forth on his heels as he stands at the altar. He looks so handsome.

The audience is enormous, just about every factory worker is there. Or should I say ex-factory workers. Hades freed them all, returned the memories. With spring here and here to stay they can all find work easily. Orpheus even got a job, but not one you would think.

Last week was opening night for the show he now stars in at the downtown theater. His performance was phenomenal and I nearly cried at seeing him so happy afterward. He loves his job. It suits him.

And the 'she' in Hades's note was actually his wife. He was saying he was bringing her home to the world for good. Orpheus had patched up their marriage with his song, and for that, he was eternally grateful for. So he repaid us by giving us this lovely wedding and letting the world return to normal.

Except it isn't normal, not really. Hades said spring, summer, and most of autumn would be warm and lovely to make his wife happy. And only for four short months would they both disappear down below to check on the underworld. And I could live with four months. Easily.

Music floats through the window that is open a crack and I panic. I scramble down the steps and out the door. I adjust my hair and take a deep breath before walking to the garden.

Orpheus gasps when he sees me. It only makes my face even redder. I take a step towards him, then another. My feet fall into a rhythm, softly sounding like drums. And now he can look back as often as he wants. He takes my hands when I meet up with him, my bouquet having been passed off to Persephone who then sits beside her husband. Orpheus squeezes my hands and smiles at me.

Words are exchanged, as are our small rings fashioned out of gold panned from the brook, and a kiss is then also exchanged. It takes a moment before the sound of the clapping catches up with me. All I hear is Orpheus's fast breathing as he fights for more kisses.

We walk down the aisle side-by-side with our hands locked together. Orpheus spins me around and kisses me once more. I never want to pull away.

"You're my wife," he murmurs.

"Yes I am." I smile at him and throw my arms around him.

And do you know what we did that night? What everyone did? We danced.

Hades and Persephone are the first couple to join us on the dance floor after the bride and groom's dance. Others joined after. But I kept my eyes on my husband the entire time.

He spins me around and then pulls me back against him. "I could think of no words," he whispers, "to describe this feeling. So I made a melody for you instead."

He sings the song, so similar to that of his springtime song. But it was different, somehow. And I could feel his love, even though he said no words.

I got back what I threw away. And doubt never came back.

So, hope you liked this little Hadestown story. I was in total denial about the ending of the musical so I fashioned this for you guys. I hope it wasn´t too cliche. Btw the song Orpheus sings in this chapter is the melody from Epic III (they danced).
