Chapter 9: A Letter from School and A Godly Visit

~%%%%~

That night was the first time Jarred saw dead bodies, and never wanted to see one again. The battle had been crazy enough. After Daedalus's death, Jarred was assigned to aid the Apollo cabin with healing the wounded campers. Thankfully, Jarred managed to heal a few campers before they died, but many campers did die.

The campers who died were covered with shrouds and then burned in the middle of the amphitheater. A son of Dionysus, who's twin had been killed, tried to say a few words but ended up taking the torch and lit his brother's body.

The next day, the campers continued to treat the wounded. Jarred spent almost the entire day in the infirmary helping Will Solace, a son of Apollo, heal the remaining campers.

Percy and Annabeth had gone to the woods for a trail of some kind. Grover was going to deliver the news about Pan, but the satyr elders didn't believe him.

That night at dinner, Percy told him something that he thought Jarred would need to know. Since Jarred wasn't a demigod, Chiron had said he could sit at the high table with him and Dionysus or sit with Percy. Jarred choose to sit with Percy. Since most of the campers, aside from the Apollo cabin didn't know about Jarred's heritage, the campers sent him curious looks.

"Dionysus said that the minor gods have joined Kronos," Percy told him, "including Hecate. She's the goddess of magic, right?"

Jarred nodded. "Yeah. I... I'm not sure how to feel about that." Since she was the goddess of magic, it was highly possible that Hecate created the Wizarding World. She was the reason that Jarred was able to help and defend himself.

Percy glanced at a fire pit in the center of the pavilion. "We usually sacrifice some of food to the gods, because they like the smell or something. I think you should sacrifice some to Hecate and ask for help."

Without a second thought, Jarred picked up his plate and walked over to the fire. He took a piece of bread and threw it into the flames.

Please reconsider your choice, Hecate Jarred prayed silently. The demigods could use your help.

For a second, the flames turned blue and the smell of garlic came from the flames.

I favor garlic, Jarred Ryan Blofis a woman's voice said in his head. And do not worry, I know what I'm doing.

Stunned and confused, Jarred went back to the Poseidon Table. He couldn't shake the feeling that he'd heard Hecate"s voice from somewhere.

For the next two weeks, Jarred stayed at Camp Half-Blood. He practiced in the camp's activities, like archery, rock climbing, Pegasus riding and capture the flag (though they all avoided Zeus's Fist).

He called his father a day after the battle, explaining that he lost track of time and forgot to call him. Paul was angry, but relieved that Jarred was fine.

On the final day at camp, the campers were all given beads for their necklaces. At the end of each summer, they would get a beed for "surviving" another summer as a demigod. The bead that year was a picture of Zeus's Fist with the names of the deceased campers around the sides. It was an interesting and honorable choice.

As Jarred waited in the camp van that would take him and Percy back to New York, a flash of light came from the top of the camp's main hill. Jarred couldn't see what was going on, but a couple minutes later Percy came walking down the hill looking shocked.

"Everything okay?" Jarred asked him.

Closing the car door, Percy nodded. "Yeah, it's all good." He looked at Jarred's lap, which a letter clenched in his hands "What is that?"

"My school letter," Jarred answered. "It arrived this morning and I haven't read it yet."

Jarred opened his school letter and began reading it.

Dear Mr. Blofis,

Please note that the new school year will begin on September the first. The Hogwarts Express will leave from King's Cross station, platform nine and three-quarters, at eleven o'clock.

Third years are permitted to visit the village of Hogmeade on certain weekends. Please give the enclosed permission form to your parent or guardian to sign.

A list of books for the next year is enclosed.

Yours sincerely,

Minerva McGonagall

Deputy Headmistress

P.S. Miss Granger asked me over the summer about you and her using Time-Turners to take all of the electives this year. I have written to the Minister of Magic and I am awaiting his response for his permission. I will inform you on the first of September.

"Time-Turners?" asked Percy curiously glancing at his letter.

Jarred nodded. "Yeah, they're used to travel back in time. I want to use it to take all of the extra classes for school next year."

"Why would you want to take more classes?" Percy asked. "Sounds like a nightmare and torture to me."

Jarred shrugged. "Magical classes are cool, and much more interesting than regular school classes. There's one class that I can take this year called Divination. It's all about fortune telling and stuff, so maybe I could to control —"

"Your powers," Percy finished for him. "Have you... have you ever told a prophecy?"

"No," Jarred said in thought. "My headmaster said I might not be able to do prophecies."

Percy let out a sigh of relief. "Thank the gods for that. I've had too many prophecies for me to count."

With that said, they rode back to New York in silence.

Two days later after Jarred returned home, it was Percy's birthday. Sally had decided to throw a small party for him, so Jarred and Paul arrived at their apartment that afternoon. Thankfully, Paul didn't remember Percy blowing up the band room. Chiron had manipulated the Mist to convince everyone at Goode High that Percy had nothing to do with the explosion. Now Paul and the other witnesses were convinced that Kelli had been a crazy, firebomb-throwing cheerleader, while Percy had been an innocent bystander who'd panicked and ran from the scene. Percy would attend Goode next month and was determined not get kicked out (for the seventh time in a row).

Tyson the Cyclops was also at the party. Sally made baked two extra blue cakes just for him. While Jarred and Tyson helped her blow up party balloons in the living room, Paul asked for Percy to help him in the kitchen.

Jarred bit his lip as he watched them talking. The day he got back, Paul sat Jarred down and told him that he wanted to propose to Sally. It was unexpected, but in a way it was expected. His father had become closer with Sally since he met her, and from what Jarred could see, she felt the same way. Of course, Paul asked Jarred for his blessing, and now it was Percy's turn.

Later when they came out of the kitchen, Paul whispered in Jarred's ear, "He gave me the all clear." And Jarred couldn't help but grin.

As they all gathered around for cake, the doorbell rang. Looking confused, Sally made her way to the door and opened it. She gasped at whoever was standing in front of her.

It was a tall handsome man with jet black hair. He was wearing Bermuda shorts and a Hawaiian shirt and Birkenstocks. His black beard was neatly trimmed and his sea-green eyes twinkled. He wore a battered cap decorated with fishing lures. It said: NEPTUNE'S LUCKY FISHING HAT.

"Pos —" Sally began, then she stopped herself. She was blushing madly. "Um, hello."

"Hello, Sally," the man said charmingly. "You look as beautiful as ever. May I come in?"

Sally made a squeaking sound that could of meant "Yes" or "Help." The man took it as a yes and came in.

Paul was looking back and forth between the, trying to read their expressions. Finally he stepped forward. "Hi, I'm Paul Blofis, and this is Jarred, my son."

The man raised his eyebrows as they shook hands. "Blowfish, did you say?"

"Ah, no. Blofis, actually."

"Oh, I see," the man said, looking disappointed. "A shame. I quite like blowfish. I am Poseidon," he said as he shook Jarred's hand.

It was Jarred's turn to make a squeaking sound. Poseidon? Like Percy's father Poseidon?!

"Poseidon?" Paul asked. "That's an interesting name."

"Yes, I like it. I've gone by other names, but I do prefer Poseidon."

"Like the god of the sea."

"Very much like that, yes."

"Well!" Sally interrupted. "Um, we're so glad you could drop by. Paul, Jarred, this is Percy's father."

"Ah." Paul nodded, though he didn't look real pleased. "I see."

Poseidon smiled at Percy. "There you are, my boy. And Tyson, hello, son!"

"Daddy!" Tyson bounded across the room and gave Poseidon a big hug, which almost knocked off his fishing hat.

Paul's jaw dropped. He stared at Sally questioningly. "Tyson is…"

"Not mine," she promised him. "It's a longstory."

"I couldn't miss Percy's fifteenth birthday," Poseidon said. "Why, if this were Sparta, Percy would be a man today!"

"That's true," Paul said. "I used to teach ancient history."

Poseidon's eyes twinkled. "That's me. Ancient history. Sally, Paul, Jarred, Tyson… would you mind if I borrowed Percy for a moment?"

He put his arm around Percy and they steered into the kitchen without waiting for a response.

After Percy came back, it took a lot of convincing to convince Paul that Poseidon had used the fire escape to leave. Paul asked Jarred if he thought Poseidon might be a wizard. To save his father's sanity, Jarred kept his mouth shut about how they both just met a god.

Later after cake, they played charades and Monopoly. Tyson didn't get charades. He kept shouting out the answer he was trying to mime, but it turned out he was really good at Monopoly. He knocked Percy out of the game in the first five rounds and started bankrupting Sally and Paul. Jarred and Percy decided to leave them playing and (since Tyson bankrupted them both) went into Percy's bedroom.

His room was like any other teenager's. So in other words: it was a pigsty. Clothes were thrown in various places, his bed unmade and papers littered his desk. Percy sat on his bed and eat his piece of cake.

"So..." Percy began, "your dad asked if he could marry my mom."

"I know," Jarred said, looking at the window. "He said that he wanted to ask you that today." He looked back at Percy. "What do you think?"

"I'm okay with it," Percy said. "Your dad's cool. He got me into his school, he's nice and the first teacher who doesn't think I'm Satan's spawn, and he makes my mom happy. When do you think he'll propose?"

"Next week," said Jarred. "He said he would, and he wants to do it before I go back to England."

"Bakes mense," Percy said with his mouth full of cake. "Should I... Do you think he'll take me being, you know a demigod, well?"

"I don't see why he should," Jarred said. "With wizards and magic being real, I don't see why he would find demigods and gods hard to believe."

Nodding, Percy stood up and patted his pockets. From his shirt pocket, he took out a small lump of cloth and unwrapped it. Inside the lump was a sprig of moonlace that glowed faintly.

"What is that?" Jarred asked.

"It's a plant... from a friend," Percy said, looking deep in thought. "When I was missing, I was on the island of Ogygia with Calypso, a daughter of Altas. She asked me to plant it and make a garden for her."

He opened his window and stepped onto the fire escape. Jarred followed him.

There wasn't much out there, since it was small. A planter box filled with dirt sat near the railing. Percy planted the dried sprig carefully and sprinkled a little nectar on it from his camp canteen.

At first, nothing happened.

Then, Jarred and Percy watched as a tiny silver plant sprang out of the soil — a baby moonlace, growing in the warm summer night.

"Nice plant," a voice said behind them.

Jarred and Percy both jumped. Nico di Angelo was standing on the fire escape right next to them. Like he'd just appeared there.

"Sorry," he said. "Didn't mean to startle you."

"That's — that's okay," Percy said. "I mean… what are you doing here?"

"I've done some exploring," Nico said. "Thought you'd like to know, Daedalus got his punishment."

"You saw him?" Percy asked.

"Is he okay?" asked Jarred.

Nico nodded. "Minos wanted to boil him in cheese fondue for an eternity, but my father had other ideas. Daedalus will be building overpasses and exit ramps in Asphodel for all time. It'll help ease the traffic congestion. Truthfully, I think the old guy is pretty happy with that. He's still building. Still creating. And he gets to see his son and Perdix on the weekends."

"That's good."

Nico tapped at his silver ring. "But that's not the real reason I've come. I've found out some things. I want to make you an offer."

"What?" Percy asked.

"The way to beat Luke," he said. "If I'm right, it's the only way you'll stand a chance."

Jarred raised his eyebrows at Nico. "What do you have in mind?" he asked him.

Nico glanced inside Percy's room. His eyebrows furrowed. "Is that… is that blue birthday cake?" He sounded hungry.

"Come inside for some cake and ice cream," Percy said. "It sounds like we've got a lot to talk about."

Author's Note: Hey, everyone, sorry for the late upload! This was the last chapter for Battle of the Labyrinth, but this book isn't done just yet. I have one more chapter left, but I'm going to upload that when I'm completely finished with my next book.

Since I'm not going to be updating this series/story for awhile, I'm going to get some work done with two of my other stories: Into the Wild (a Legend of Zelda story) and A Really Strange Encounter (a Percy Jackson and Winx Club crossover). I will be writing these stories alongside Jarred Blofis Book 4. If anyone has any suggestions for me to add in Book 4 (which will be about Prisoner of Azkaban), please let me know in the reviews!

Keep an eye on my profile page to know when my next story comes out! I have a list of fanfictions I'm currently working on there.

Thank you all for reading and stay safe!
