CHAPTER 3: transformatio
Previously:
The Original Hybrid, Klaus, sped over and slammed her in the tree, holding her high by the throat. Charlie's hands gripped Klaus', but made no effort to remove them. She thought it would be better for all of them to get their frustrations off on her, rather than Caroline and Liz.
She rolled her eyes, "What?"
"What are you?" Klaus growled out. His sickeningly yellow hybrid eyes and four sets of teeth were on full display. He looked as menacing as described in one of the younger Salvatore journals. Charlie didn't care much for him, the only redeeming quality he had was the loyalty for his siblings. He did have something for Caroline though, and that was something she could use.
"That is none of your business," Charlie said. She telepathically removed Klaus' hands around her neck. With a small burst of power Charlie pushed him back, making him stumble over tree roots. He straightened himself and flashed his yellow eyes at her.
He growled in frustration and the audacity of her throwing him back. Klaus took a furious step toward her, Charlie's hands almost twitched, preparing herself for an attack.
Elijah put a hand on Klaus' shoulder, stopping him. Klaus turned around to rip into his brother, though paused. They had a silent conversation through the gesturing of their eyes and body motions. Huh, Charlie thought, so they want to wait and watch what I'm going to be doing.
Charlie regained her balance and placed her hands on her hips. She looked around and saw a crowd of bloodthirsty, minus the pun, vampires glaring at her.
"Look, I'm not here to harm any of you," Charlie twitched her palm and a large rock sped towards her position. It narrowly avoided the vampires, getting a chuckle out of her.
She sat down on the large rock, yawning. "Gosh, today was hell of a day. You know, six hours ago, I had an intensive surgery. And now I'm stuck here dealing with you guys. It takes a lot out of a girl."
The others looked at each other in confusion.
Charlie sighed, "My name is Charlotte Grey, I'm Caroline's cousin." She just wanted to go rest, the day's not even done and I'm already exhausted.
Elena gasped, her hands covering her mouth in shock, "Oh my god, Bonnie, it's her!"
Damon prevented her from moving to where Bonnie was standing, he didn't trust this woman. The powers she had were unnatural. His hands folded over his chest as he glared at the girl.
Bonnie's green eyes narrowed, her lips thinning as she tried to recall the familiar face.
"You're the girl that went missing years ago," Bonnie said.
"Bingo." Charlie said, snapping her fingers.
"How are you alive?" Bonnie demanded, her hands stretched out in front of her, a spell on the tip of her lips.
"Enough of that Bonnie, I am not here to hurt you," Charlie said, getting up from the rock. "I am here to help my cousin, you know your best friend, Caroline."
"What did you do to her?" Klaus asked, angrily.
Charlie sighed, "Let's get one thing straight. I am not here to hurt Caroline, I am here to protect her."
"Yeah we all saw how well you helped her." Damon said, sarcastically. Over the years, he and Caroline formed a tentative bond for Elena's sake.
"Stop the bullshit," Bonnie interrupted, "You did something to her."
"Caroline was never meant to be a vampire, she was destined for more. I only helped her access that part of her."
"And by access…" Stefan trailed off, his forehead furrowing in confusion. Caroline was his best friend, his support partner. He would kill for her, save her, even if it meant killing this so-called cousin of hers.
Charlie rolled her eyes, ignoring the remark. She walked to Matt, her eyes glowed and everyone was frozen in their places once again. All except Matt.
He started backing away as Charlie continued to step forward. His back hit a large tree and one of his hands caught onto a large branch. Charlie smiled and stood in front of him, trapping him, her arms folded over her chest.
"Matthew Donanvon, I wonder, why do you continue supporting these people?" She asked.
"What do you mean? They're my friends, of course I'll support them," Matt's eyes roamed around nervously, he was afraid of staring into her eyes. Though he was on vervain, he knew it would be ineffective on the girl. He nervously clenched the branch and swung it with all his might.
"Nice attempt," Charlie said, grabbing a hold of the branch in mid flight. "But it's gonna take more than a branch to injure me." She ripped it away from Matt and broke it over her knee, throwing the pieces in the bush.
"Now, Matthew...Don't you ever wish you could be as powerful as your friends?" Charlie asked, she leaned closer to the boy.
Matt shivered, "Yes, I do," He wanted power, no needed power, to throw out the vampires plaguing this town. His sister died because of the Salvatores and the misery they brought with them. It all started with them, he lost Elena, he lost his sister. All because of vampires and now this offer of power tempted him.
"Well, I'm glad, I got the thing for you." Charlie smirked. She held out her hand and her duffle bag zoomed right into it. Rummaging through the bag, she found what she was looking for. It was a medium sized, navy blue, sealed box.
Charlie gazed back at the boy, who was obviously in the midst of a moral dilemma. "What do you know about your ancestors?"
Matt's eyes snapped back to her, "Not much, just that they were one of the founding families who settled in Mystic Falls."
"That's right," Charlie said, nodding along. She held the box in hand. Turning back, she eased control over the other's eyes.
She leaned in closer. "But did you know, from your father's line, you are a descendent of a pesky little gene."
"I-uh-What? I-I'm not anything special." Matt stuttered out
"On the contrary, you are the only reason I'm still standing here instead of cozying up in bed at the Forbes'."
Charlie sighed, it was getting late and she wanted to go to bed. It's time to get this over with. "Matt, I'm here to offer you power and help you unlock your potential."
She took out a long, translucent blue crystal from the box. A modified Terrigen Crystal, safe for human and mutant touch. It contained enough mist to induce transformation. She only had a few left in the box, Charlie was saving them for others.
Charlie smirked, holding up the crystal, "Tell me what you want." Her eyes glowed as the command embedded itself in Matt's brain.
Matt's face slackened, his fear and unease disappeared. He unintentionally straightened his posture, his shoulders broadened.
"I want to protect Mystic Falls." He said in a dull voice, devoid of emotion.
"Do you accept this power I am offering you?"
Matt's face twitched, he hesitated for a moment. Then his eyes hardened in determination.
"Yes."
"So be it." Charlie whispered, throwing the crystal at his feet. It cracked and faint whispers of grey mist materialized in the growing darkness.
Charlie quickly backed away and tapped on the device embedded in her arm. A large blue forcefield emerged, blanketing her and the rest away from Matt.
She held her breath and watched as black, goo-like liquid started crawling up and around his body.
"What the fuck?!" Matt exclaimed, he glanced at his hand as it was slowly being consumed by the black liquid.
His eyes widened in fear, "Help me…" Matt whispered, gazing right at Charlie. Charlie stood her ground, unmoving from her place as she held up the shield.
Matt choked on his words as the liquid rapidly spread over his face. He was now entirely enclosed in a cocoon, solidified.
Seconds passed. Everything stood still.
CRACK.
Pieces of the cocoon slowly started to break off. A large piece around Matt's eyes broke off, revealing a bright green eye. Following pieces crumbled to show light green hair.
Matt grunted and fell to his knees. His bright green eyes narrowed at Charlie.
Charlie disengaged the shield and calmly walked to Matt.
"Are you okay?" She asked, crouching down.
"Why didn't you tell me it was going to be like this?" Matt furiously asked.
"If I did, would you have accepted?" She countered. "Is it so bad? You have new abilities now." She got up and stretched her arms.
Matt felt something change when he was inside the cocoon, he felt himself change. He could feel the raw power coursing in his veins.
He flexed his wrist and roots emerged from the ground. They curled around Charlie's ankles, holding her still.
Matt looked at her in astonishment. "What am I?" He wondered.
"You are an Inhuman." Charlie answered. "It means you're still human, you just have the potential to be more."
The pressure around her ankles increased. Tendrils of plants curled up Matt's arms, his fingertips tinged in green. Several more roots ripped out from their places and waved around uncontrollably. They thumped on the ground heavily as it threw up dirt in the air and uprooted bushes and other foliage.
"I can't control them." Matt groaned out, trying to grasp back control over the roots. He didn't want to hurt his friends.
"Breathe in deeply and let go," Charlie advised. "Think about your friends, think about how vulnerable they are."
Matt shut his eyes and breathed in deeply and exhaled.
The roots around Charlie's ankles unrolled and went back underground. Other larger roots slowly went back into the ground. Though the tendrils of green were still coiled around Matt.
Matt opened his eyes and everything was back to where it belonged. The plants curled on his biceps reminded him of the power he held. He brought his green fingertips to his face, gazing at it with wonder.
"That's poison." Charlie stated. "You have the ability to produce toxins and obviously control plantlife." She said, gesturing to the woodland.
"Awesome." Matt smiled, his green eyes brightening up. Happiness radiated from him. He could feel deep exhaustion settling in after the display of his powers.
"My head hurts," He said, clutching his temples. Matt groaned in pain, falling in a fetal position on the dirt ground.
Charlie hurried to him and crouched down, his head on her lap.
"Don't worry," Charlie soothed, running her hand through his green hair. In a quick second, she grasped the sensitive skin on his neck and twisted.
Matt's eyes rolled back and he fell unconscious.
"That oughta do it." She said as she got up and dusted off her jeans.
Charlie tapped her device, "FRIDAY, get out another hover cot."
"Yes, Ms. Grey." The British AI replied.
A light blue hover cot emerged. Using her telepathic powers, Charlie carefully put Matt on the cot. It sealed up and held still for further instructions.
"Take it to the Forbes' house and don't forget to phase." She commanded.
The hover cot sped off to its prescribed location.
"There we go," Charlie murmured to herself.
Now she had to go meet a certain billionaire playboy. But she couldn't leave the vampires and hybrid alone, no doubt they would have questions for her. As exhausted as Charlie was, she was in no mood to answer to anyone.
Turning back to view the vampires and hybrid, Charlie smiled, "I'm sure you lot have plenty of questions for me and in due time, I will answer each one of them. It's time for me to leave."
She held out her hand for her bag, heaving it up on her shoulder, she adjusted the Sling Ring.
Charlie's control over them was strong and no one could move an inch, save for their eyes. They visibly struggled against their invisible bonds, their eyes promising pain and torture for herself. Charlie inwardly smirked, as if they could harm me.
Raising her arm, she drew a circle. The location she was picturing in her mind was of an abandoned alleyway. Charlie closed her eyes and concentrated, a golden circle started to form. Growing in size until it was of her size. It held still, showing the location through the other side.
Charlie turned to look at the others. Their eyes widened in shock and curiosity. She looked away and adjusted the strap on her shoulder. She loosened her control over them the slightest bit, allowing movement of their upper body, she kept hold of their legs, lest they attempt to go through the portal after her. Throwing a last smile to the irate hybrid and the rest, she stepped through.
AN: I made Matt an Inhuman 'cause how tf did he manage to stay human throughout the entire series. Anyways, both Matt and Caroline are going to be important in this story and we will be closely following their arc as well as Charlie's. Next chapter will bring in Tony and the rest of the Avengers - the timeline is right after they won in the Battle of New York.
