A/N:READ THIS DEBRIEF FIRST PLEASE

Okay, so, a lot of things happened. I reread the manga of Tokyo Ghoul because I wanted to follow the manga instead of the anime. I hadn't read or watched them both in years, so it was a necessity. The reason I'm writing this note is because the two are totally different, and if you've only seen the anime, you should read this next part. Manga spoilers!(duh this is a fanfic)

The basic thing I should start with is that, everything from the beginning up until the fight at Aogiri is the basically the same in both formats. However, what comes after? Not so much. Correct me for any errors on this please! If I recall(I still haven't rewatched the anime, nor do I intend to), the anime had Kaneki actually join Aogiri to fight the doves. It was a short arc that soon ended with the burning of Anteiku and then Hide's death. I don't remember how Hide died though, so I'd appreciate it if someone could debrief me. Anyways, Kaneki ends up carrying the body away to the doves and then is 'killed'.

None of this happens in the manga. Kaneki actually forms his own group to hunt Aogiri and other ghouls he deems as a threat to Anteiku. He's joined by creepy Gormet, Bonjou, and a few others. While doing this, he comes across the doctor who transplanted Rize's organs into him. Kaneki actually isn't the only artificial one-eyed ghoul. There are a pair of twins who lost their will, along with a whole bunch of failed experiments. All of them share Rize's kagune. Anyways, he finds out Rize is alive, and the doves come in to attack. He awakens some kind of other kagune that looks like a centipede and has a third eye. It's some weird shit. He makes it out, and Renji runs off with Rize. It should be noted that Rize is not Rize anymore, she kinda lost her mind and only eats. She can't recognize people or hold a conversation.

Kaneki finds out the one-eyed king is the manager's son. The doves find out the same thing and know that Anteiku is home to a ghoul staff and destroys it. Only the manager and two other employees fight. Kaneki comes and joins the fight despite everyone telling him not to, and kills Amon. The fight leaves him badly injured and he goes into the sewers(?). I dunno, I was confused at this part. Anyways, he encounters Hide, who knows Kaneki's a ghoul. They have a short conversation before Kaneki loses consciousness and Hide is gone. Which worries me because I think Kaneki ate him, but who knows other than those who read all of the manga. He finds himself in front of the reaper Kishou Arima and they fight. I say fight, but really it was just Kaneki getting decimated. And that's it. That's how it ends. The manager has taken Rize's place in the experiment, with the doctor planning to make more artificial ghouls. Touka is seen saying she believes Kaneki will come back. There's more volumes to the manga I believe, but I haven't gotten to reading it. I decided that everything that happened until now would be enough for what I'm doing.

So there you go! A very quick, maybe slightly in accurate, summary. Let it be known that I read the entire thing in a span of four days. I did not pay attention the whole time! I was just going for a very brief understanding of the story so that I could actually write this fanfic. Now, to actually start it:

Chapter 1

In a room at an agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D, a small cube was heavily guarded. It let off a faint blue glow that way radiated with its power.

Click!

The sound of a lock resounded in the room. A man with an eyepatch over one eye, Fury, walked in to observe the cube.

"We'll need someone to investigate this thing soon," he mused aloud. Staring intently at the cube, he sighed and shook his head. At that moment, he felt a sudden urge to sneeze.

Achoo! Sniff.

"..."

That...shouldn't cause any problems, right?

Finishing his observations, the man carefully walked out of the room and began moving to his office. Before he could, he heard one of his men call out for him.

"Mr. Fury, sir! There have been two sudden energy signals in America!"

Fury turned around slowly, his one eye narrowing slightly. "Where, exactly, have these signatures appeared?"

"One is in New Mexico while the other is here, in New York."

Here? In New York? Fury suddenly recalled the sneeze he had on the Tesseract. There was no way that would cause a problem. Right?

"Send our forces to New Mexico. Call Miss Romanoff to my office. I'll have her investigate in New York," Fury ordered. Yes, there was no need for any more people to know of his blunder. It was just a simple sneeze! Agent Romanoff alone should be enough. He'd have her search until the whole situation was finished. If his sneeze really was the cause, it was likely it was just a pulse of energy. There was no way he had actually done something ridiculous, like summon a person! That was absolutely impossible...he hoped.

(A/N: if only you knew. Heheh)

"Fury, you called?" His thoughts were pulled out from the voice. He looked up to see a woman with red hair staring straight back at him.

"Yes, I did indeed. I want you to investigate New York. There was an energy signal reported, and I want you to search for the reason. We don't know the cause, or what it actually is. Your job, is to find out," Fury said, finding his seat at the office. He was very careful to make it seem like he didn't actually know the cause.

"Are you sure you want to send just me? Shouldn't there be othe-" Natasha Romanoff paused as she saw the glare coming from her superior. Right. No questions asked.

"Just think of it as a vacation," Fury said, still glaring at the woman.

She nodded and prepared to leave. Right, just a vacation. That shouldn't be so bad.

"And don't come back until you find the source!" She heard him call out to her right before she left.

Meanwhile, a few moments before, in another dimension:

Kaneki was screaming in pain. He was fighting against the CCG's Reaper, Kishou Arima. He didn't understand what was going on anymore. He was seeing things, as awful as that was. His mother was there. Why was she there? Why was she working? Why couldn't she just focus on him for once?

What about his father? He was there too, though he couldn't see his face. And Hide! Where was Hide?

"Hide! The pain! AaAarrHgn!" Painful screeches resounded in the room, and the Reaper just watched with what looked to be pity.

"I cAn'T! I CAn't do this...anymore."

Hysetericall from the pain, Kaneki looked at the man. He was calming, but the madness had yet to disappear. His eyes wide he began to recite, "He-he is Ainu. His white beard hanging down his chest, the mismatched mats...with his eyes..Ainu...The God of Ainu Mosir, descendant of Okiku Rumi...he perishes, a living corpse. The Summer's day, the white sunlight, unabashi... ends simply through his breath alone."

(A/N: I have no clue what he's talking about here. This is what it says in the manga though, when he's dying. It's honestly very sad seeing how mad he's gotten.)

"It's so pretty. Autum." Kaneki starts to cry, staring at his surroundings. He knew that he was underground, surrounded by metal. Yet everything looked like the green of leaves and flowers to him now. The flower field only grew.

Arima looked at him, before averting his eyes. There was a deep pity and sadness there. "Oh, I see, you're..." the man finally begins, but stops before saying, "It will be over soon."

Stepping forward, he takes out his quinque and says coldly, "We're in V14. No ghoul can pass through here. You...can't go any further than V14."

The weapon released a large blast at the white haired boy, and he prepared to dodge. Before he could move, though, a blue light pulled him away from the battle field. Growing larger and larger, it eventually sucked him in. The boy, half ghoul and pitiable in his last moments, was gone.

Shocked, Arima looked around. Where on Earth had the boy gone?

Kaneki looked around at where he was. He was in a forest of some kind, and the sky was beginning to darken into night. He didn't understand. What exactly had happened?

Slowly regaining his sanity, his centipede kagune retracted. The third eye on his forehead fell apart, shattering onto the ground.

He lifted his nose to smell the area. It had the metallic scent that came from pollution, but that wasn't anything new. No, he was shocked about something else. The smell of the air was actually nice, without any blood to it. That was what had shocked the boy. He had gotten so used to the smell of blood in the air, especially from all his recent battles.

Nearby, he heard the faint trickle of water. Making his way slowly to the water, more a stream than a river, he dunked his head in.

He may not have known exactly what was going on, but he knew that he had been spared for some reason. If he wanted to go back and fight for Anteiku, he'd need to be able to at least pass in the streets. Without his mask, the only way to make sure he could pass without people recognizing himself, Kaneki Ken, as a ghoul was by looking as human as possible.

After a good few minutes of just dipping in the water, most of the blood had washed off. He sighed in relief. At least his face had cleared off.

Next was his suit. While he couldn't take it off for obvious reasons, he could at least get it clean enough to pass as a costume(?). At least, that was what he was hoping for.

After about 10 minutes total, the white haired boy was ready. Slowly, he made his way to the nearest humans, where he assumed was the the 20th district. Oh how wrong he was.

The place he was in was not the 20th district. In fact, it wasn't even Japan at all! As Kaneki walked into the bustling streets from the 'forest' that he now understood to be a park, he heard the chattering of English. Yes, English!

Slowly, limping from his injuries, he pulled up to the closest person he could find. It was a man in his twenties, walking with his girlfriend.

"Ex-excuse, sir? Can you tell me where am I?" Kaneki stuttered through broken English and prayed he'd gotten it accurate enough to be understood. Thankfully, he had learned the language at school.

The couple stopped, staring at the bruised boy. Despite his injuries, it should be mentioned that Kaneki had quite the adorable face. He still had baby fat clinging to him, making him look younger than he was, and he wasn't unattractive either.

The girl stopped first, hesitantly reaching out to him. "Are you okay? You look pretty banged up..." the girl began. She placed her hand on his shoulder as if that would help.

Kaneki looked up, a bit surprised by her friendliness. Despite his best attempts to clean up, someone should at least suspect he was a ghoul, no? He had bruises and cuts everywhere, after all. "I am... new to America. Lost my phone and wa-wallet. Can please tell me where is this?" He repeated his question.

This time the man answered, "you're in New York, pall. You said you lost your wallet and phone?" He narrowed his eyes in suspicion.

Kaneki flinched at the man's perceptiveness. Though, he supposed it wasn't difficult to tell he was lying because of his appearance. Quickly fumbling for an excuse, he began, "like I said, I am new here. I was in fight." That much was true. He really was new here and he had been in a fight.

The man nodded as if he had expected that. "You poor kid. Some gang must've beaten you up, huh," he said with pity. He had suspected the kid had gone through something rough. His timidness as he explained the situation only confirmed his thoughts.

Meanwhile, Kaneki was in shock at his luck. Wow. That...was actually a good excuse. He nodded his head at the young man, thankful for the misunderstanding.

"Do you know how to get home? We can take you there, if you'd like." The girl said this time.

It finally occurred to Kaneki that they were treating him like a child. He was a bit annoyed at the thought, but it was working to his advantage so he brushed it off. "I don't have home..." Kaneki trailer off at the end, realizing how true that statement was. He really had lost his home. Anteiku was probably destroyed by now.

The couple stared at him. How much had this child had to go through?! He had lost his phone, his money, and didn't even have a home to go back too! How awful!

"Taylor, you head back home. I'll take this kid back to my place for now," the man informed his girlfriend. She nodded and began to head off.

After a bit, she turned back and reached into her pocket. Taking out a wad of money, she handed it Kaneki. "It's only a little, but it should be good for now," she said with a sad smile before leaving.

The man waved goodbye to her, before turning to Kaneki once she was out of sight. "My name's Logan, Logan Foster. You can stay over at my place for a bit, yeah?" He have a wide grin to the half ghoul.

Kaneki nodded his head in a daze at his friendliness. It reminded him a lot of Hide, he thought with a sad smile. "I am Kaneki Ken," he said simply. He was too tired to add on to the conversation.

Really, too tired. His wounds were getting to him, and the fatigue from all the fighting had reached its peak. The next thing he knew, he was falling. And then everything was black.
