Alice and Lily Evans usually sat next to each other in class, but for some reason she did not show up to Transfiguration. She frowned and looked over at Sirius and James Potter, who were actually working silently together for once.
James Potter had a huge crush on Lily Evans, but Lily still never returned it. Alice thought he would know what was up with Lily still. She peeked over at Professor McGonagall before she looked at James. "Psst." He didn't look her way until she threw a piece of paper at him.
"What?" James asked, sighing irritably.
"Have you seen Lily?"
James frowned at her. "No. I don't keep tabs on her all the time, you know."
Professor McGonagall suddenly appeared beside them. "I'm sorry to inform you two of this, but this class is not social hour. You are supposed to be working with your partners on turning your animals into teacups. I'll have to separate you two. Alice, you'll be working with Frank Longbottom for the rest of the semester."
Alice's eyes widened as she turned to look over at a boy with dark hair. He had a few close friends and he was friends with Lily, but they never spoke before. Alice tended to be shyer around boys.
She narrowed her eyes at James Potter for getting her into trouble, but she supposed this time it was her own doing. At least she wasn't getting detention.
Alice gathered her books and walked over to Frank's desk.
He gave her a friendly smile and she didn't know what to so she gave him a half wave. "Hi…I'm Alice."
Frank's smile grew wider and he held out his hand. "I know who you 're Lily Evans best friend. I'm Frank Longbottom. It's nice to meet you."
Alice smiled shyly before sitting down. She looked over at him and caught him still staring at her. He gave her another smile before. "Come on then. We can do this together." He tapped on his bird and muttered the spell to turn it into a teacup.
She couldn't help but shyly watch him the rest of the hour. She definitely would have questions about Frank for Lily when she saw her best friend later. She knew she should try to talk to him herself, but she could barely manage anything past hello yet.
