Green eyes stared in front. What was once a manor, was now nothing but a pile of wrecked walls. Lambo wasn't sure what to expect when he jumped into his bazooka while fighting with the Lightning guardian of Varia. A part of him wanted to see the future. A bigger part of him wanted to go back home to his time and try not to be stranded in the future.
"Tsuna…?" He called and took a step forward, despite knowing that the manor was torn down a long time ago.
Was it ten years ago? When they had to go underground for their safety? Was it before? Later? Lambo wasn't sure and for some reason he didn't want to know, less alone remember it.
"Lambo?" A deep voice called.
The teen turned, his eyes widening when he saw Yamamoto leaning on the doorway, panting. He ran to his side and helped the man lean on him. "What happened?" he asked.
"We were attacked." Yamamoto shortly explained, confused at the sight of the teen. "Why are you so … young?" he murmured, but soon paled when realization dawned on him. "The fight for the rings…" he said more to himself and shut his eyes, groaning at the pain in his ribs.
"Where's Ryohei-niisan?" Lambo was turning his head around, trying to find anyone, but there was nothing. Just the two of them in a pile of rubbish.
"He went to keep his family safe." He answered and leaned on the wall, eyes shut. "Damn it, I shouldn't have called you in…"
"What?" Lambo was confused. "Where's Tsuna-nii? And Bakadera?"
A pain crossed Yamamoto's face at the mention of the two. An unsettling feeling spread inside Lambo and he shook his head. Averting his eyes, Yamamoto refused to meet Lambo's gaze which was searching for something. Then again Lambo had a hunch it was something like this after all they were the strongest Famiglia. It was only a matter of time before someone decided to start a coup.
"W-who else?" his voice was quiet and it was almost drowned by the sudden pouring of the rain just outside. Thunder rumbled not too far away.
Yamamoto glanced at him and Lambo felt the pain. "Mukuro and Chrome have been off the grid for months already. Hibari…" He began slowly and closed his eyes, grunting at every breath he took. "Must have punctured a lung…" he murmured to himself. Lambo paled. Punctured lung was never good news. "The moment …" he stopped, unable to continue.
"T-Takeshi…" Lambo whisper-called, hands clutching on his suit jacket. Tears pricked in his eyes and he began shaking his head. His grip tightened when Yamamoto gave him a small smile, his skin growing paler by a minute. "I-I'll go get someone…"
Before he could leave, Yamamoto held his hand and shook with his head. "The whole place is most likely surrounded…" he grimaced when he tried to move, pain visible on his face. "There's a hidden pathway that leads out of the mansion, you know which one I mean, don't you?" he asked. His expression softened when Lambo nodded. "Go there. Get out of here and go to a hideout. And promise me you won't come back no matter what you hear. No matter what, keep going forward."
"No!" Lambo shook his head, gritting his teeth. "I don't want to go anywhere! I'm not leaving you behind!"
"Lambo." Yamamoto's voice was strict and the teen stilled. He was sobbing, yet still shaking his head as tears streamed down his cheeks. "I can't let you fight. Not when you're fifteen. They… The enemy is cunning. They know us better than we expected. Once you get back to the past, warn Tsuna. Tell them to get a better background check on Gesso and anyone affiliated with them. Leave no stone unturned."
"G-Gesso?" Lambo hiccupped, eyes narrowed. He knew that name. He recognized it from his time.
Yamamoto nodded. "Now go and hide until you go back." he gave him a rather hard shove. Lambo stumbled, falling back as he stared at Yamamoto. "Go!" the latter hissed and with shaky legs, Lambo scooted on his feet and ran.
Knowing the mansion like the back of his hand, Lambo ran like his own life depended on it. Tears were streaming down his cheeks and he hiccupped, almost stumbling over his own feet. He had no idea from where he got his will, but he ran.
Once he reached an office he held for the doorknob when he stilled. A scream tore through the hallway and Lambo shut his eyes tight, a chill running down his spine. He gripped the doorknob tighter, wanting to crush something, and a moment later there was silence. He gritted his teeth, glaring in the way he came from, part of him wanting to go back and fight. But he promised Yamamoto he would run away.
Suddenly these couple of minutes felt much longer than he wanted them to be. He couldn't wait to see Tsuna again. He wanted to see him.
There was a call and Lambo turned his head. His eyes widened when he spotted Chrome standing by the end of the hallway. Her eye was wide as she stared at Lambo, but a moment later she barely dodged a lizard-like arm. She jumped closer to Lambo, trident in front of her.
"Lambo, what are you doing here?" she asked, her focus on a green-haired hybrid man.
"I-I used the bazooka when we fought against Varia." Lambo quickly explained and put arms in front of himself to shield his eyes from the sudden brightness. There was a yelp and the only thing Lambo saw was Chrome being thrown into the wall. "Chrome!" he called, ready to reach for her, to help her when he felt a familiar tingling. "Not now…" he hissed, but in the next moment he stood in Tsuna's office, eyes wide.
"Lambo?"
Blinking, Lambo turned only to see Tsuna sitting on a sofa. There were other voices, but he could only focus on Tsuna, who was warily watching him.
"T-Tsuna-nii?" the teen stuttered and in a second Tsuna was by his side, already embracing him.
"It's okay," Tsuna's voice was gentle and quiet.
Lambo's hands were shaking when he held on his suit jacket and buried his face into Tsuna's chest. There was that familiar scent that Lambo knew; a mixture of a gentle and sweet smell resembling a mix of melon and lilies along with coffee. It's Tsuna-nii… he thought to himself and tightened his hold on his older brother. He heard footsteps and rushed whispers beside, but Tsuna's voice was calm when he responded, which calmed Lambo.
After a moment of silence, Tsuna pulled away and wiped tear-stained cheeks, looking Lambo all over. He frowned when he spotted bruises and a look in his eyes that no teen, child his age should have it. "Bazooka?" his voice was quiet and Lambo only managed to nod. Tsuna sighed and pulled him in another embrace. "I'm here, Lambo."
"I don't-don't want to use it." Lambo hiccupped, his grip still tight. "Bazoo-ka…" he murmured, shaking his head along. "I-I don't wan-t to…"
"You don't have to." Tsuna replied. "If you wish, we can give it to Giannini and Spanner. They'll have it under their watch." He stopped and waited for Lambo to respond.
When he received no answer, he glanced at Yamamoto, who was sitting across the sofa on an armchair. They exchanged a look before Yamamoto nodded.
"Do you want to keep it just in case?" Yamamoto spoke, his flames filling the office.
Lambo stilled before he pulled away in a second. Fresh tears were streaming down his cheeks as he looked at two Guardians, who were sitting in the office. Yamamoto widened his eyes while Gokudera was ready to say a remark, but one look at the teen and he frowned, confused and worried. He exchanged a glance with Yamamoto, but their eyes widened when Lambo jumped over the sofa and landed on Yamamoto, clinging onto him like he was afraid for his own life.
"Lambo?" Yamamoto called softly, his hand going through Lambo's hair, his Rain flames slowly easing the boy.
"Don't-don't ever te-tell me to-to leave you …" Lambo choked on his own tears and something in Yamamoto's expression changed as his eyes showed sadness, having a hunch as to what happened.
Tsuna looked at Gokudera and gestured towards the doors. Gokudera nodded, stood up and left the office in search of Ryohei. Tsuna walked over to Yamamoto's side and sat down, hand in Lambo's head. Lambo looked at Tsuna and reached for his hand that Tsuna gladly obliged. He held onto it, afraid if he let go of either of them he'll wake up into another nightmare. His eyes were shut, sobs the only sound that filled the quiet office. Tsuna's eyes showed worry, already making plans with Spanner to keep Lambo from Bovino bazooka.

Sobs were heard in Lambo's room while Tsuna stood by the door. He watched Ryohei examine the teen, frowning.
"How is he?" Tsuna was the first to break the silence.
Straightening, Ryohei approached him. "He's hurt, but not too much. It must have been during the fight with Varia for the rings when he used the bazooka." He shortly explained. His expression though was saying different. Seeing Tsuna waiting for him to continue, he did so although reluctantly; "Whatever happened in the future, it affected him a lot."
Tsuna's frown deepened.
"I don't like this, Tsuna. He had a meltdown when he saw Chrome." Ryohei whispered. "We can find a different solution with the Gesso."
Tsuna pursued his lips into a thin line, knowing Ryohei was right. "I know," he closed his eyes and sighed. "If only Reborn was here, I could ask for his advice on this." He silently cursed, hand clenching into a fist at his side. "Can you take Lambo's bazooka to Giannini and Spanner? I'll talk to them later."
Ryohei nodded before he reached for bazooka. He looked at Tsuna one last time, saying; "I'll check on him before dinner." and left.
Tsuna quietly approached the bed and sat down. His eyes watched Lambo sleep, tear visible in the corner of his eye. His chest tightened at the sight of Lambo so vulnerable. He gritted his teeth, hating to see him that way, yet he couldn't do anything. "Don't worry Lambo," he spoke and reached out to caress hair from his forehead. "I'll make it right so you won't have to face the dark future."
A promise spoken to no one else but a sleeping teen. Two months later, Tsuna went through with it.
Note: Hello, BlueThief here. Hope you enjoyed this short oneshot that I finally finished after months if only it was because of my thoughts and wonders how Lambo felt in the future and if that was the reason that he stopped using Bovino bazooka. There are so many questions left with both manga and anime that I was honestly a bit skeptical about it, but I like how it turned out. As a matter of fact, I have one short fanfiction with Lambo in centre as well, but I'm not exactly sure when I'll post it. Kinda wrote only one chapter for it, but hey who knows. I truly hope you enjoyed it - reviews, comments, thoughts are appreciated and welcomed.
