Harry Potter and Ginny Weasley walked down the middle of Diagon Alley, hand in hand. As Harry had requested, their silent escorts and security around them were keeping their distance. This was Harry and Ginny's first official date, and Harry wanted it to be as perfect as possible. He wanted it to be a day Ginny would remember, especially after all the help she had given him over the last few weeks with the loss of his godfather, Sirius Black.
Ginny had been the one to find him before they left Hogwarts. Harry had been brooding over his loss, hiding in the North Tower. It was a place that few people ever went, having been unused and abandoned many years ago. Harry hadn't been looking at the Marauders' Map to see anyone, much less Ginny, coming or he probably would have left the Tower to brood somewhere else. However, looking back, talking to Ginny had been the best thing he could have done.
They had sat there talking for hours, Ginny told Harry of how close she had gotten to Sirius during the previous summer when the Weasleys were helping him clean Grimmauld Place. Harry had confided in Ginny that he had held so much back from everyone because of how he grew up with the Dursleys. He was afraid everyone would turn their backs on him if they knew about things like the cupboard bedroom he had once had. Ginny had not turned away. She had turned toward him with tears in her eyes, tears that had melted Harry's heart and opened his eyes to the beautiful redhead that was in front of him.
By the time they had walked back to Gryffindor Tower, still holding hands, Harry had asked Ginny to be his girlfriend. After a heated kiss goodnight, Harry had turned to a silent Common Room and shrugged at an open-mouthed, wide-eyed Ron and a smiling Hermione, before heading to bed.
Now, Harry was staying with the Weasleys for the rest of the summer. He had somehow convinced Mrs. Weasley to let them go to Diagon Alley on their own for a day out. After stopping at Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlor for a sweet treat, Harry and Ginny headed for the twins' new joke shop, Weasley's Wizard Wheezes. They couldn't miss the bright purple and orange building at the far end of the Alley. The shop looked ridiculous, but that was the twins. Ginny chuckled as she looked at a sign in the window that advertised a product named "U-No-Poo".
As they walked in, Fred looked up from a shelf he was stocking with their latest products.
"Well, what have we here?" Fred grinned. "Hey, Georgie! We've got special company!"
"Special company?" George asked as he popped up from behind the counter. "Oh! Special company. In the form of our dearest sister…"
"And her famous beau!" Fred grinned widely.
"Shut it, you two," Ginny frowned.
"Now, now. No way to treat your lovable brothers…" Fred began.
"Ron and that git Percy, sure…" George added.
"But not us," they spoke in unison.
"And because your famous beau has a…" George began.
"Stake… in our business, we would never dream…" continued Fred.
"To tease him."
"What are they talking about, Harry?" Ginny looked at him with a raised eyebrow.
"Thanks, guys," Harry frowned at the twins. He turned back to Ginny, rubbing the back of his neck with his free hand. "I…may have…invested…my…uh…"
"Out with it, Harry!" ordered Ginny with a scowl.
Harry sighed. "I gave them the winnings from the Triwizard Tournament to start their shop," as Harry looked down. He figured Ginny was going to explode on him like she usually did on Ron. He startled a little as her hand touched his cheek. Harry looked up to see a soft smile on her lips. The next thing he knew, those lips were on his in a searing kiss. Harry had a goofy grin plastered on his face as she pulled away.
"You are the kindest, most generous person I know, Harry," Ginny smiled. "Who haven't you helped in my family?"
"You're…you're not mad?" Harry asked.
"Harry, you made their dream a reality. You saved Ron. You saved Dad…"
"He saved you," the twins chimed in.
"Hush!" Ginny warned. "Yes, you saved me. In a way, you also saved Percy in your second year, by saving me and stopping the basilisk."
"Our hero!" Fred and George chorused teasingly.
"You two want a Bat-Bogey, don't you?" Ginny glared at them as she reached for her wand. The twins gulped and paled, shaking their heads.
"Let us…uh…" George started.
"Make it up to you…" Fred continued as they started backing up slowly.
"We'll…uh…show you our…"
"Top secret stock…that may…"
"Or may not…"
"Make it onto the shelves," they finished. With a sweeping gesture, Fred pulled a curtain out of the way to usher Harry and Ginny into one of the back rooms, while George locked the store.
The room looked like a cacophony of paint, parchment, and scorch marks. Harry looked around at the various cauldrons, box wrappings, and what looked like an acid-eaten workbench. Ginny looked over some of the notes that were scattered about haphazardly in piles, close to the cauldrons and boxes.
"So, tell us, dear sister…" George started.
"When did this come about?" Fred finished.
"What do you mean?" Ginny asked as she turned. Harry noticed that she had grabbed a couple of random bottles off the bench.
"You and our darling…" Fred gestured to their intertwined hands.
"Hero and investor?" George nodded. They were met with a glare and frown from Ginny. "Just curious."
"End of term," Harry answered.
"Finally got your wish?" grinned Fred.
"Even after the butter dish," George laughed.
Ginny narrowed her eyes at that comment. Instead of being embarrassed or turning red from blushing that the twins thought she would, Ginny growled. She tossed the two bottles at the floor in front of the twins, both shattering. Orange and pink smoke-filled that side of the room as Fred and George hollered out a girly screech. When the smoke cleared, the twins didn't look like Fred and George. Fred had grown two feet and his hair was no longer red. He had a mane of blue hair with green polka dots, buck teeth that hung over his chin, and a build like a troll. George, on the other hand, had shrunk by two feet. His hair was short, yellow, and had a glittering shine to it. His jaw jutted out with two-inch-tall teeth sticking out of the corners of his mouth. His arms were hanging down on the floor, almost to his elbows. George's feet were the size of picnic baskets in both length and width.
Harry and Ginny froze as they took in the sight of what the twins had become, only to burst out laughing a moment later. They had to hold each other up as their stomachs began to ache and their eyes filled with tears.
"Whab tob foony?" George asked. He was startled by the sound of his own voice.
"Deorbe, dor tort!" Fred exclaimed. George looked up in horror at Fred. Their eyes widened before they screamed again. Harry and Ginny had lost their fight with balance and gravity. They were rolling on the floor, laughing their heads off.
"Weguler tomediens, dey err," Fred complained.
"Twenb nus bwack!" George demanded.
"Anymore cracks?" Ginny panted. The twins shook their heads. "Good. We'll have a look around and see what we can find."
"But first," Harry grinned evilly as he spotted a camera on the bench. With a wink to Ginny, Harry spun around, snapping several photographs of Fred and George. "We'll be taking that with us. That way, everyone can see the pranksters pranked!"
"Dob voobbet dore?" Fred asked in terror.
"Son of a Marauder," Harry leaned forward. "What do you think?"
"Jobt turriby," George shook his head.
"I'll check their notes," sighed Ginny. "You see if any of those bottles say 'reversal' on them."
Harry started looking at the bottles, but none of them were labeled. "No labels, Gin."
"Oh, well," Ginny shrugged. "Start throwing them and see what happens."
"Vhobt?"
"Nooob!"
Harry shrugged as he threw two bottles at Fred and George's feet. Green and red smoke billowed around the twins. Their faces took on a more human look as their teeth and jaws shrank back to normal, but not their hair or bodies. Harry looked at Ginny with a shake of his head. He then grabbed two more bottles. The far side of the room exploded in black smoke as the bottles broke. The walls were black with smudges when the smoke cleared. Fred and George were on their backs groaning.
"He's gonna get us all killed!" Fred complained as he sat up.
George sat up rubbing his head. "Why are you taking so long?" he moaned.
"Your scrawl looks like a chicken wrote it," Ginny grumbled back. "Be patient."
"I'll try those over there," Harry pointed to a corner with dust on the shelf.
"No!" Fred and George cried out.
"Those are our…" George started.
"Failed experiments," Fred confessed.
"Maybe we ought to…" Ginny smirked.
"No." Fred and George shook their heads vigorously.
"Then shut it, and let me read," Ginny warned. "Harry, check those notes over there."
"You know I'm rubbish at Potions right?" Harry asked. Ginny rolled her eyes, holding out her hand for the notes.
"Why are you taking so long?" Fred complained.
"I told you, your handwriting is worse than a ghoul's!" Ginny frowned at him.
"Wait," George held up a hand. "Where did you take the bottles from?"
"Over there," Ginny waved. "Why?"
"Because those are the wrong notes," frowned Fred.
"We are a bit more organized than Ron," George sighed.
"Oh! These notes?" Ginny asked as she held them up. Fred and George nodded.
"One more thing..." Harry grinned at Ginny. He pulled her into a hug, giving her a passionate kiss in front of her brothers. After he pulled back, Harry turned back to the twins. "Anything to say?"
"No," they shook their heads.
"One more thing," smirked Ginny as she picked up two bottles after reading the notes. "Tease us again about any of that, and we won't help you next time."
"Done," George nodded.
"Double done," nodded Fred.
Ginny threw the bottles at their feet. The white smoke covered the twins for about a minute before clearing. Fred and George stood before them again, as normal as they ever were.
"Now, love, how about we go get these photographs developed and start making a list?" Ginny smirked as she looped her arm in Harry's.
"Oh, I know a few old teammates, like Oliver Wood, will love one," Harry chuckled as they started for the door.
"And Angelina and Alicia," Ginny nodded. They heard the twins groan as they left.
