I Love You More

Marinette always considered herself the person who loved more.

It wasn't something that could be helped, she had been raised with so much love to give, and she had come to accept it.

Her first boyfriend was at the age of sixteen. He had been a tall fellow, reaching at least a foot taller with brown hair reaching his shoulders and ice blue eyes. His name was Leo, and he was a sweet guy she'd just managed to bump into one night at the park.

Marinette cared for him alot, after all he was almost as perfect as it got in her eyes.

Then one night he's holding hands with some girl she'd never seen before and he's laughing and smiling as if she never existed and next thing she knows, she's crying her eyes out before she can manage to open the door to her house. Marinette had spend two years of her life devoted to that idiot, and she had nothing left but a broken heart.

She didn't actually jump into a relationship until seven months later.

This time, it was her close childhood friend, Luka. Since they both had decided to attend the same university, they'd rekindled their friendship and eventually she began to feel the same butterflies in her stomach. His smile made her feel like melting, his laugh could ring her ears for the rest of her life for all she cared, and he always happened to make her feel as if she was something special.

Before she wasn't.

It was a month before her twentieth birthday and she thought she had it all.

But Luka knocks on her door, and leads her to sit down on the couch with a frown on his face and Marinette can feel her heart beating out of her chest. He'd been offered a scholarship to a better university and he had decided to take it, meaning he would be leaving in three days. She nods as he rambles on about how difficult long distance relationships can be and how he doesn't want to make her suffer even more.

''I love you, Marinette, I do'' he started, taking a deep breath. ''But it wouldn't be fair to both of us to keep this dragging''

''I understand'' she mumbled.

But she didn't.

If he loved her the way she loved him, he would've found a way no matter how difficult, and he wouldn't be turning his eyes away from her like he had during the entire conversation.

She didn't understand at all.

Why was she always the one left with a broken heart?

She was suddenly twenty two, graduated and had gone on too many blind dates. As always, they were a disappointment and right when she thought she'd found someone interesting, some truth always came out.

She was tired, and sad, and had come to terms that she would most likely die alone when a handsome, tall man sat on the chair across from her and smiled.

''Hi, I don't think we've met, but I'm Adrien'' his voice was so smooth, she found herself choking on mid air. ''I've seen you a couple of times, so I thought I'd have coffee with you''

''Oh, um-'' she cleared her throat. ''I'm Marinette. You don't have to if you don't want to''

She was stunned as to how she hadn't noticed him, probably due to always being focused on her misery.

Adrien smiled, and Marinette knew she was in trouble instantly. ''I would love to''

She wasn't sure how it all happened.

He's there making small conversation and before she knows it, she's laughing her head off at his stupid adventures. He was so easy to talk to, so sweet and not to mention, completely gorgeous. Marinette could not believe how comfortable she felt, almost as if she was talking to a friend she'd known her entire life.

''I don't wanna sound weird,'' he began, as they both exited the coffee shop doors. ''But do you maybe wanna meet up tomorrow? It just felt nice talking to you. Or not, I can walk the other way right now if you tell me''

Marinette giggled. ''That's alright. It would be my pleasure to see you again''

She didn't know that she would eventually go on to fall in love like she had never done so before.

Leo and Luka and all the other stupid dates suddenly didn't matter anymore and all she could do was smile when she was around him. He was warm, hilarious and witty, and he smelled like caramel.

Marinette had fallen.

Hard.

''I love you'' he told her one night, as they walked hand in hand back to her apartment. A blush fell upon her cheeks at the words. ''I know we've only been together for four months, and I've never actually told anyone those words, but-''

He stood in front of her, his hand gently caressing her cheek. ''I love you, Marinette''

No one had ever said those words first.

''I love you too, Adrien''

''I love you more''

She laughed, as he leaned in and placed a passionate kiss on her lips.

A year had passed and they had moved in together and there was a large diamond ring on her finger.

She had never been happier, and finally, it was as if all the suffering had been worth it for these moments.

But lately they had both been stressed with deadline and bills and wedding planning and one night they had both had enough and begun yelling at each other.

She knew they were both just tired, but the fight had been hurtful, and she couldn't stand to be in the same room as him if it meant she didn't feel the way she had felt about him anymore.

''I'm getting out of here before we both say something we'll regret'' she said, putting on her coat before storming off.

She hadn't cried the way she was crying right there in years, and as she sat inside the driver's seat of her car, she felt completely broken down. It was a matter of time before her bad luck would take away her happiness again, but this time, she didn't want to let it happen.

''Not him,'' she cried out to herself. ''Please not him''

There was a knock on her window, and she was relieved to see Adrien standing there, breathing heavily from having ran out. She got out of the car, now standing right infront of him with tears still falling from her eyes.

''Mari-'' he inhaled. ''I'm so sorry, I don't know what any of that was. You know I never want to see you cry especially because of me''

Marinette sniffed.

''I know things are hard right now, but they'll be worth it when I see you walking down that aisle looking as beautiful as the day I met you. No matter how many fights, no matter how hard it gets, I will always love you more and come back to you no matter what''

She knew Adrien was the one, but in that moment, she had never been more certain. ''I love you''

He placed a kiss on her forehead and pulled her into his chest. ''I love you''

In the end, she'd been lucky enough to find Adrien.

And as they sat across from each other at the dinner table, their three children eating beside them, she couldn't help but remember how they'd met.

For once, Marinette had met someone who loved her as much as she loved them.
