Guess what? The final story of this Saga came out quicker compared to the others! That's because unlike the two previous stories who were all made from scratch, this one already had an older version that got discontinued if you recall what I said previously at the end of my Wind Waker story, so I just took that old version as a basis for the remastered version and modified some parts. Simple as that!
With that said, I hope you enjoy my (new) version of Twilight Princess! ;)
Chapter 1: A Mysterious Call
It was a peaceful and tranquil sunset in Faron Woods. At the Faron Spring, sitting on the ground, there were two men: one was a middle-aged one, and the other was a young one, around seventeen years old. They were listening to the calm waves and waterfalls from the spring as the middle-aged man spoke:
"Tell me… Do you ever feel a strange sadness as dusk falls?"
"Hmm? What do you mean, Rusl?" the young man looked at Rusl.
"They say it's the only time when our world intersects with theirs… The only time we can feel the lingering regrets of spirits who have left our world. That is why loneliness always pervades the hour of twilight… But enough talk of sadness… I have a favor to ask of you, Link."
"What sort of favor?"
"I was supposed to deliver something to the royal family of Hyrule the day after tomorrow and I want you to go in my stead…"
"But… the mayor set this task specifically to you, Rusl."
"Yes, it was a task set to me by the mayor, but… with my wife's pregnancy and our new baby on the way, I need to stay home with her and Colin."
"Oh, I see… Then I guess I can go."
Rusl paused for a moment before asking, "You have…never been to Hyrule, right?"
"I… don't think so." Link replied.
"In the kingdom of Hyrule there is a great castle, and around it is Castle Town, a community far bigger than our little village… And far bigger than Hyrule is the rest of the world the gods created. You should look upon it all with your own eyes."
Rusl then gets up and speaks, "It is getting late… We should head back to the village. I will talk to the mayor about this matter."
Link also got up and both headed to the spring's gate with Link's horse, Epona, who was equipped with her saddle and bridle, carrying six bushels of branches. Link was holding on Epona's bridle as he and Rusl exited the Woods and crossed a wooden bridge over a ravine. At the other side, Rusl closed the gate and they went on, talking about the events for tomorrow while passing by the Ordon Spring.
At outside of Link's house, Link wrapped Epona's bridle on a stake and watched Rusl leave with his wife, Uli, and his son, Colin, leave. Before leaving, Colin looked back at Link with a smile as he smiled back at him. Soon, when it was empty around Link's house, an unknown teenage girl walked towards Epona, unwrapped her bridle and took her into the same path where Link and Rusl just passed by.
Then, another man around Link's age came in rushing towards Link's house, unaware about Epona being taken away, and called loudly:
"Hey! Link! You there?"
Link appeared by the window. "What is it, Fado?"
"Hey, you mind helpin' me herd the goats? They ain't listenin' to me lately!"
Link responded with a small nod. But as soon as the young man left the window, Fado noticed that Epona was gone.
"Hey, where's Epona?" he asked.
Link came down to see what he meant. The young man sighed; he knew who did that.
"It must be Ilia again…" he thought before telling Fado, "I'll get Epona. Meet me at the ranch."
"Understood!" Fado nodded and left to the ranch. Link went to the path on the right, which led to the Ordon Spring. There, he found Ilia, who was tending Epona.
"Oh, hi, Link." Ilia looked to the side where Link was standing. "I washed Epona for you!"
"Thanks, Ilia…" Link thanked with a soft smile.
Meanwhile, at the Era of the Great Sea…
"Come on, Link! Get your lazy butt over here!" the fearsome pirate captain, Tetra, yelled at the cabin's door as the scene is now taking place at the pirate ship sailing the seas as Link and Tetra were still looking for a new land.
The cabin's door swings open, and Link walked out looking all drowsy. "Mmm… Morning, Tetra…" he mumbled while rubbing his eyes.
Tetra rolled her eyes... and then suddenly twisted Link's ear as he cried out in pain, not to mention bringing his sense back fully. "Seriously, how many times are you going to oversleep?! You're supposed to be on the lookout for a long while!" she complained.
"Gee, I'm sorry I did it again!" Link retorted. "But at least I do my job well, don't I?"
"Yeah, I suppose so… Now get to your position already!" Tetra ushered, pushing Link towards the front of the ship as he let out a surprised yelp.
"Okay, okay! I'm going!" he quickly rushed ahead and brought out his telescope… well, I mean, his sister's telescope and looked out at sea through it.
Ever since joining Tetra's pirate crew, Link was given the role of keeping watch from the low point in order to not interfere with Zuko's role, which was keeping watch from the high point at the mast. Link didn't seem to mind doing this task, but he could only hope that he and the others would find a new wide land to settle in soon.
"Finding a new land was a bit tough than I originally thought…" Link thought before glancing back to see that Tetra was giving orders to Gonzo, who was steering the ship. "Not to mention that Tetra can be quite bossy sometimes…"
He then turns around to resume keeping watch, only to strangely see nothing but pure whiteness through the telescope.
"What the…?" he blinked in confusion as he put the telescope away… to see a white ball of light right in front of him that began to gradually increase in size and brightness as he shielded his eyes from it.
"Hero from an alternate reality, you have a task set to you by us, the Light Spirits… You along with a small group shall be sent to a new era where the legacy of the Hero of Time lived on, and to fulfill this task, find your other counterpart… The one also chosen by the Crest of Courage." an unfamiliar voice echoed through the ball of light before it finally engulfed the boy.
"AAAAAAAGH!" he screamed before disappearing completely.
"Link!?" his fading scream caught Tetra's attention as she turned around alarmed to see that Link was gone from where he previously stood as she rushed up to that spot. "Link! Hey Link! Where'd you go?!" she called out, but obviously no response came. As much as it irritated her that her friend just disappeared without any warning, deep down, she was worried for him.
Back at Ordon, in the next day…
"Hey, wake up, Link! It's morning already!" Link woke up to a boy's call.
He came out of his treehouse and saw three kids standing. They were the brothers Talo and Malo and Beth, the shopkeeper Sera's daughter.
"Oh, Link! Didja hear? They're selling a slingshot at the store right now! A SLINGSHOT!" Talo exclaimed, clearly excited.
"I wonder how powerful it is… I… I need… I must try it…" Malo murmured.
"Talo, if you and Malo want it so badly, just buy it at my parents' shop!" Beth rolled her eyes playfully.
"Do you see any Rupees in my hand? I can't afford that thing! C'mon, Beth, can't you just loan it to us for a while?" Talo pleaded.
"You know I'd get in trouble for that! If you two want it, save up your allowances or something."
"But…our allowances are terrible… Aww, I wish I was born into a family with a slingshot instead of one with a waterwheel…" Malo lamented.
Link walked over to Epona, and saw Colin petting her.
"Hi, Link… I finished the fishing rod I was making." he said shyly. "I thought I'd give it to you first thing in the morning, but… My dad said, 'You just wait until Link comes to get it!' That's why I didn't bring it to you. Dad's out today, so would you ask my mom about it? I think she's by the river."
Link nodded and went to the village. There, he found Uli, Colin's mom, by the river, who seems to have lost something.
"Oh, um, good morning to you." Uli spoke. "Did you come to get the fishing rod that Colin made?"
"Yes, I did. Is something wrong, Uli? I noticed that you looked worried about something." Link said.
"Um, you have not seen a cradle come floating by here, have you? It is a baby's cradle made of finely woven tree bark… Oh, such a misfortune… How far could it have drifted, I wonder…"
Link searched around the river for any signs of the cradle, but no success. He then noticed a piece of grass on top of one of the platforms above the river. He climbed on it, picked up the hawk-shaped grass and blew on it.
This made a hawk land on his wrist. He looked around, and spotted something in the distance being held by a monkey. He sent the hawk there, and it eventually snatched the object from the monkey's hands and handed it back to Link; it was the missing cradle!
Link hurried back to Uli, who was smiling that Link managed to retrieve the cradle.
"Oh! Link! That cradle! Did you go to the trouble of finding it for me? My thanks to you!" she thanked. "Oh, that reminds me! There's something I am supposed to give it to you… Do you think you could carry that cradle and come with me back to my house?"
Link accepted the request and followed Uli back to her house. There, she hands him the Fishing Rod. As Link left to the shop, he spotted a familiar cat wandering around.
"That must be Roo, Sera's cat! But what is she doing outside?" Link thought. "Ah well, I'll just do some fishing." he shrugged it off.
Link then went to a wooden dock and took out the fishing rod to catch fish. He manages to catch a Greengill; a very common fish in Ordon. Just then, Roo notices the smell of fish and went to where the tasty Greengill was. With a small 'meow', Roo snatches the Greengill right in front of Link's eyes.
"Hey! What the-?!" Link blinked in surprise, watching Roo running back to Sera's store through a cat's hole with the fish in her mouth.
He decides to enter the shop to find a happy Sera and she gladly let Link take the slingshot, which cost 30 Rupees. Once he bought it, he went back to his house, only to see Rusl walking up to him.
"Rusl?" Link asked.
"Ah, just in time, Link! I just delivered something to your room!" Rusl said. "Oh, I see you got the fishing rod. Colin will be pleased. And it works better than you would think, right?"
"It does."
"Well, have a good one…" he then leaves.
Curious, Link went into his house and saw a treasure chest inside. He opens it up and takes out the Wooden Sword, which it was possible that Rusl carved it himself.
"Looks good." Link smiled. "Thanks, Rusl. I'm sure the kids would like this too." he went back outside in order to show the children the new items he just got.
At the Faron Spring…
"Nnngh… What happened…?" thought the Link from the Era of the Great Sea as he started to regain consciousness, but still kept his eyes closed.
Link could feel water around him. At first, he thought he was on the ocean, but when he felt his hands touch ground, he realized that the water was shallow, and oceans didn't have shallow water. Relieved that he wasn't standing in the middle of the ocean at least, Link slowly opened his eyes, and was greeted by many tall trees around him. He was left surprised, as he had never seen so many trees before that they could not even be compared to the Forest Haven's number of trees.
Regaining the rest of his strength, Link was able to finally sit up, still looking around the scenery surrounding him. It was serene and beautiful, filled with plant life. Of course, he had no idea where he was right now, but he had to admit that this place was pretty looking.
"Wow…" he thought as he got up.
His eyes then darted to his front, where much to his shock, he saw a group of six people lying on the grassy ground away from the spring's shore. Link couldn't see it right now, but four of those people were familiar to him. He proceeds to walk over to them, but stopped once he saw them getting up.
Who were those people, you may ask? Why, they're Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, Daisy and Rosalina, of course!
"Agh… My head…" Luigi groaned as he held on to his head. "What was that all about…?"
"Geez… That light came from out of nowhere…" Daisy remarked. "And I could've sworn that I heard it talk too…"
"Do you think it was Lana's doing?" Yoshi wondered.
"I don't think so…" Mario pondered. "She didn't even show up when that sudden light appeared."
"You do have a point." Peach said.
"Oh?" Rosalina looked to her left, exactly at the direction Link was. "Everyone, there's someone over there."
Hearing her, the others turned to where she was looking, and their eyes widened in surprise, especially for Mario, Luigi, Peach and Yoshi when they saw Link standing there with the same reaction. Everyone was silent for a moment until the quartet mentioned above spoke in unison:
"…Link?!"
It then dawned on Link. "Mario? Luigi? Peach? Yoshi? Is that really you, guys?!"
The quartet smiled in realization. "Oh, Link! It really IS you!" Peach beamed as she and the rest rushed over to Link.
"Guys!" Link also beamed as they all hugged. Daisy and Rosalina watched them with fazed looks, but soon turned into a smile as they were happy that their friends encountered the same hero they just met on their previous journey again.
"Wow, you guys were right! We did see each other again!" Link exclaimed as they all broke from the hug. "Well, not all of them, though…" he chuckled, noticing that Toad and Luka weren't with them. "Are Luka and Toad doing well, at least?"
"They're just fine, don't worry!" Yoshi replied.
"Good to know!" Link then looked behind his friends to see the two people he doesn't recognize. "Um, and who are those two that came with you?" he asked.
"Oh, those ones over there are our other friends." Mario answered. "Their names are Daisy and Rosalina."
"Yo!" Daisy saluted.
"Nice to meet you." Rosalina bowed.
"Same." Link nodded, before changing the subject, "So, how did you guys end up here anyways? And most importantly, where are we?"
"We've arrived here not by Lana, as you would expect, but by a strange ball of light." Mario explained. "And I believe that it said some words about us being chosen to help out save this land along with an old friend or something…"
"How strange… I arrived here through the same method too! Also, 'old friend'?"
"Well, since you've arrived here in the same way as we did, then this old friend might be you." Luigi stated. "I could be wrong, though…"
"And as for where we are… we're not sure." Peach added.
"Maybe we could walk around together and find out?" Yoshi suggested.
"Sounds like the best idea at this moment." Rosalina agreed.
"Then what are we waiting for? Let's go!" Daisy exclaimed as they proceeded to walk together.
To be continued…
It just makes me giddy on the inside that I'm remastering an old story! I think it's going well so far!
I just know that many of you weren't expecting Wind Waker Link to also appear, right? Having two Links together... That's the perfect way to make this story represent the Triforce of Courage, don't you think? ;D
Now, for those who don't know about my old version of the Twilight Princess story, it originally had Sonic added in since I remembered that he had a werehog form that worked pretty similar to Link's wolf form. To me, today, the fact that I had the idea to put in Sonic was merely just an excuse to put in his werehog form as I was a huge fan of that form back then.
So, obviously the remastered version won't have Sonic or anything related to him (in that case, the Chaos Emeralds) in it in order for this to not become a triple crossover and that it wouldn't make sense. For the next change, the Mario cast will have a different animal transformation when they enter the Twilight Realm while the two Links will transform into wolves to signify their connection to the spirit of the Hero. Which animal the Mario cast will turn into? You'll have to find out by yourselves!
And for the final change, I completely scrapped the concept for the Keys of Light. I really wanted to make these work out somehow differently in the remastered version, but I couldn't no matter how hard I tried, so it led me to scrap them in the end.
How'd you like it so far? Stay tuned for the next chapter!
