1. Maybe it will or Maybe it won't

Something about the way the trees rustled and the way everything sounded deeply unnerved Caroline. She would be lying if she said she felt nothing out of sorts. It's been years since she felt this kind of pull, this weird feelings in the deepest pits of her stomach. What was even more confusing that how she was here- In the woods, where there were just trees as far as her Vampire vision allowed her eyes to be and how she was just waiting in European bar for a witch who might have had some kind of information on stopping the merge to this, this place. She stood up, brushing the grass off from her denim. She looked up to check time or perhaps location on her phone only to find it dead. She scoffed and put it back in her pocket. This was witches's work, she was sure of that. What she wanted to know is who she pissed off this time. Oh yeah, this wasn't the first time she has pissed them off. Some things had to be done and desperate situations needed desperate measures. None they were happy with though. Fuck it, she thought.

With her Vampire speed, she managed to reach at on the end of the road. Well there where vehicles and humans so that's a huge relief. Caroline walked up at the nearby café. After years of control and practice and her being control freak, she managed just fine in heavy crowds like these. She pursed her lips, she needed a way to contact her daughters without garnering too much attention and it should not be difficult to find a phone here or a charger really.

"Hi, if it's not much of bother, can I borrow your phone please? I need to call my daughters and check on them," She gave waitress a sheepish smile and sighed in relief when she nodded. When the waitress handed her the phone after unlocking it, lets just say it was really a miracle that she didn't freak out right in front of everyone. The date. THE FUCKING DATE!!

19th March, 2011

Oh fuck.

What the fuck.

This isn't happening. Maybe it's a technological error or something. FUCK.

"If you don't mind me asking," Caroline gulped nervously. Well this is awkward question to ask but she had to be sure, "What's the day today?"

The waitress eyes her, before answering, "Its Tuesday ma'am. 19th of March. Are you okay?"

Caroline nodded, giving her phone back to her before standing up rapidly, "Yeah, everything's okay. Thanks for the help though."

She walked out of the café as fast as she could in human speed. She thought maybe someone brought her back to Virginia to piss her off or perhaps they needed something from her. Never in her life she imagined, that she would be transported back in time. Yeah, she was freaking out because it was something straight out of gothic books. Then she remembered her mom. She must be alive right now. She couldn't remember when was the last time she thought about her. Really. With her daughters in back of her mind and school to run, she didn't really have anything to think about.

Maybe it won't be as bad as I thought it would be.

Since she had nothing on herself, she compelled herself a car and drove to one place she could either be safest or in danger. Again and again she needed to remind herself why going there would be a good idea, Stefan would be there. Elena would be there. Mom would be there too. Oh god. She wiped a lone tear that rolled down on her cheek.

Maybe it's the worst idea, Caroline thought to herself as she nursed the drink. She wanted to go home so badly but she ended up in Mystic Grill. She had no idea what she will say when she meets her mom or Stefan or really anyone without breaking down. She sighed, closing her eyes as she downed the whole glass.

"Now aren't you a little underage for drinking or better yet, drinking in the day time. What will your mother say," She heard a voice say behind her. Her whole body stiffened. Wait this isn't happening. Oh my god. How is- her train of thoughts was stopped by owner of that voice as she felt him sit beside her.

"I'll have what she is having," Klaus told bartender before shifting his focus on her again. She is stupid. So so stupid. How come she didn't realize that the Originals would be there to. Caroline turned her face to see him, she was afraid her face would betray her. She was scared and angry and most of all, she wanted to cry. To throw her arms around his neck and to feel him. To know if this isn't a dream and that she was really here and he was still alive.

"Klaus," she managed to mutter out. She didn't realize how needy, how funny it must have sounded to him right now.

"Hello love," Klaus beamed at her, dimples cutting into his cheeks making him look more adorable than dangerous. His British accent making her knees go jelly. Oh god. "Now it's the last place I expected you to be at. I thought you were with Stefan and Damon, who are without a doubt plotting my death as we speak," he smirked, his eyes gleaming with weird combination of malice and adoration.

Caroline stared at him dumbfound, which earned her another grin from him. "Now love, as much as its flattering for you to, ah what do they say, oh yeah, check me out. I'd really appreciate if you say something."

Caroline's eyebrow shot up at his musing, then she scoffed before smiling into her drink. God, she missed him. She missed him so much. She would be lying if she said her heart wasn't beating hard against her rib cage.

"Well, you're wrong. I'm definitely not checking you out. In fact, I'm plotting the very murder you accused me and my friends of, in this very mind," she rolled her eyes.

"My company is finally rubbing of on you then," Klaus chuckled before sipping his own drink which made Caroline snorts. "That's very lady like, Caroline," Klaus commented which earned him a eye roll in return.

"I'lI have you know, that this is 21st century. I can snort, speak as much as loudly as can wouldn't make me any less lady."

"And as a devout feminist, I'm inclined to agree." Klaus put a hand on his chest with a mock considering face.

"Tell that to Rebekah," Caroline retorted. There was silence from his side. She turned her face back at him again to find him staring at her, his mouth parted in surprise. He slowly shook his head, his eyes guarded again and his jaw hardened.

"Out with it, Who sent you this time to distract me? Let me make hazardous guess, Damon Salvatore?" He bit out, glaring at her. Caroline looked up at him shocked at the sudden turn of the events but then glared back at him.

"Glad to know all these years, and you're still paranoid as ever," She drawled. Of course this is the same Klaus who bit her, who wouldn't stop at anything to kill her if he sensed danger, "Besides you found me here, not the other way around but you don't see me throwing accusations at you."

"Well can you blame me? Would you trust you, if you were me and if honesty is what you're going for, you haven't exactly given me any reason to trust you, have you?" Klaus scowled. He grabbed drink from her hand and downed the other glass. "You were nice to me" he glared at her, "and the only time you do that is when you're sent here in form of distraction."

"Right. I'm sorry." Caroline sighed and then shifted on her seat. "I can see why you have trust issues," She shrugged at him, trying to joke.

Klaus looked at her again. His eyes softening this time but his guard still up. He was looking at his drink now, swirling the glass. After a moment of comfortable silence, he spoke without looking, "I'm leaving this town tomorrow. There's nothing keeping me in this town anymore, besides murder plots," His lips twitched, as he brought the glass back to his mouth.

"Wait… why do you have to leave?" Caroline asked him, shocked. "You may not need anyone but this town needs you." I need you. I missed you.

"Well you would be surprised to know how little I care about this town. I would ask you to come with me, and even if you're strangely friendly with me right now, I doubt you would come with me. Besides what's this small town, when there is a whole world out there." Caroline smiled at him. She knew and she has travelled.

"Yes" Caroline admitted.

"Yes?" Klaus's eyes narrowed again at her as he was about to stand up.

"Yes I'll come with you, Klaus. Just give me a day. But yes," Caroline jumped up in excitement. Klaus looked at her again, this time he was really confused. Happy but confused.

"I mean, I do need some clothes for shopping of course. Depends on where we are going anyway. I need a day with my mom and then we can go wherever you want us to."

She could swear his smile could light up the world if he would do it more often. The way he was smiling at her now made her heart skip a beat. Part of reason she wanted to do it is because they never got to do it together. Travelling around the world was their thing. She wanted it now more than ever.

"Are you sure Caroline? Is this-"

"Oh shut up. Go away before I change my mind now," She huffed, as she put a hand on her hip, ushering him away.

Klaus gave her one look, and a dimpled smile before leaving the bar. She watched him walk away, her mind going back to the time where he was sitting with drink in his hand and she was leaving him with a goodbye that universe coursed out of them. She didn't want him to die but what else choice did she have? She had always thought Klaus would be there, when everything ends, when she is done with the world and world with her, she just thought he would be. A rock. A special someone, who lived in the corner of her mind. Her supposed to be last love before universe made her his. The irony. She remembered how she cried into her pillow when she realized there was no one. That he was just… gone like that.

One of you stands, walks to the door and doesn't turn back. Even if their heart aches for one more look, one more moment. But you'll know that not looking just means, I'll never forget you.

Caroline's eyes were glassy with unshed tears. No she would not let them drop this time. She took out wallet to pay for the drinks but the bartender said that they have already been paid for. Of course he did.

AN: Thank you so much for reading. The reviews would be appreciated of course. I had this idea in my mind for ages and I just wanted to do it and I did. There is lots of angst coming in later chapters. Lots of Rebekah and Kol and Elijah. Next chapter will be Klaus's POV. This story may have started with lighter note but its definitely gonna be a dark fic with Dark Klaus. Anyway again. Reviews are appreciated.
